Volume down button and power button don't work - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I'm having some issues with my OnePlus 3T. Earlier this week ago I noticed that my volume was randomly reducing {it always would reduce to a low setting but not mute} and at the same time I could not use the power button to turn the phone off or to put the phone to sleep. But if I double clicked the power button the camera app would load up like normal and nothing I did seem to effect the volume. Every time I increased it again a few seconds later it reduced.
So today I had gotten tired of the buttons not working and kept trying to restart the phone... after multiple tries I somehow managed to power off the phone. However instead of fixing the problem once it powered up it went straight into the boot menu and does not load up the OS at all. It keeps going into a bootloop.
I tried clearing the cash and booting in recovery mode... both did nothing and just continued the loop.
I'm not sure if I've damaged the volume down button only somehow {in the boot menu, the volume up button works fine and so does the power button but nothing happens when I click the volume down} or if it an issue with the most recent update.
Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

I am facing the exact same issue.help me how to resolve it.

Power button issue

I just discovered yesterday that my power button seem to be not working. Pressing it doesnt lock the screen and long pressing it doesnt bring up the power options. Tried wiping everything and still the issue remains. When I pull my battery and then insert it back the phone boots itself, as if the power button is pressed all the time (even though i can still click it and its not stuck). Ive been using rom toolbox for the power menu but choosing to turn off the phone makes my phone have a screen freeze, all other options work like reboot, fast reboot, reboot recovery etc. Anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: After a couple of days my power button is working again

How did you get it to work? Or did it started working on it's on? Thanks
I've seen that happen on mine, due to a bad USB charge port. Replaced it, problem disappeared.
Any chance your device sometimes thinks it is docked to a docking station?
Inexpensive part to obtain, less than 10 dollars (usd), takes about 15 minutes or less to replace.
In the 2+ years I've had mine, I've gone through 4 of them LOL...I'm hard on charge ports I guess.

It just started working again. When I turned off my phone to place my sim back and it didnt boot up automatically, I knew the power button is working again. Pressed the power button, device booted up and the issue is gone. I dont know if mh device thinks its docked, i dont have a docking station and ive never had problems with my charging port yet.
I've been using my N7000 for 2 years and this thing happened for 3-4 times. The lock button will be like stop working, sometimes it is like being press all the time and the problem will be sorted out by itself. Normally when this happens, the phone will be laggy and will reboot by itself. Is it a common thing for this phone?how do you get your phone fixed Kcube989?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Exhibit II 4G (SGH-T679) Can't Boot

My Galaxy Exhibit II 4G is about a year old, rooted and i have CM11 installed. Everything was fine, I had it plugged in (charging) and i was downloading an app (Camscanner) from the Mobogenie store when suddenly the phone shut off and the battery icon appeared with the loading circle in the middle.
This did not stay on for long as the screen would go off and this would again appear. After pulling the battery and removing the charger, then reinserting the battery, the phone would just flash the SAMSUNG logo in this very same manner.
I am unable to get into either recovery or download modes and when i try this combination (VOL UP + VOL DWN) i get:
RAMDUMP MODE
Cause: Force Upload
I have been reading forums for hours and i have found nothing. Is my device bricked? What can I do to recover it? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated :crying:
What happens if you try vol. up + power, or vol. down + power?

Thanks for replying. Nothing happens. It just continues to reboot like I'm not doing anything. The only way I'll get a reaction out of it is with vol up + vol down
It can be tricky. This post may be clear http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32437850&postcount=6
The link you sent me to sounds similar to my problem, except I wasn't trying to update the firmware. The crash was spontaneous.
However, neither of those methods work. As soon as I put in the battery the SAMSUNG logo appears, then disappears and reappears and it continues like that... Pressing the power button does nothing, whether by itself or with the volume up/down button
I am beginning to panic
What happens when it's connected to power?

Anyway, after many hours of investigation I discovered it was a hardware problem. The power button was stuck and so it forced it to reboot repeatedly. It also explains why it (the power button) was unresponsive. Disassembling the phone and freeing up the power button solved the problem.
P.s. Your build of CM11 is boss
I have same problem with power button. Had to tweak it hard cause it was so sensitive.
It's the first time it's happened to me. Probably because I dropped it so many times
Strange, ...

OK so I'm no expert or anything but maybe my experience with this Model might be able to help you a little bit. I have the same model and it was doing the exact same thing however I haven't rooted it. And I've since corrected the issue on mind particularly it appeared that it was the charge port and/or USB that either had a bad connection or possibly it was boot looped. However with me not rooting the I didn't understand how it could be booted Looped so I started playing around with holding the power button playin with USB things of this nature and what I found was that if I hold the USB to one side either left or right, this allowed me to help a boot farther into it sequence at first to just show the Samsung logo over and over then I could get it to get to the boot sequence about halfway through the boot animation until I finally got to the exhibit screen where displays its model and 4G status. I accomplish this by holding the USB to one side and pushing and holding the power button intermittently throughout the boot. Once I hit the unlock screen unlock the device and I immediately factory data reset it. I'm under the impression that mine was possibly I think that mine was somehow a corrupted bootloader or software still I don't know what caused it to backed up to this day occasionally it'll shut itself down and reboot on me that's why I'm here today I've got all the parts and pieces I need to flash a new rom and hopefully new software the new work over I'll be good to go I also cleaned the USB port made sure that it was still snug to the board all of the good stuff. I don't know if it'll help you but I had the same situation I thought you'd like to know that it was probably not what you were doing with the phone it may just be the software itself with this particular phone see I done nothing that you didn't had the exact same problems. I hope it was somewhat helpful if you haven't gotten it unlocked or re-booted yet. Then maybe just play around with the power sources and power buttons. And see if you can get the same results I did

phone stays black, button not responding? help

hi, i have a g800f. Sometimes (3 times in the last month) my phone doesn't wake up when i press power button. The last time i received a whatsapp message and then touch didn't worked, the phone didn't respond and then it became black. I had to remove battery and it started up again. An other time i found it like it were off because pushing power button i received no answers, so i did the same thing, removed battery and worked again.
I read it is a common problem of S5 and S5 mini. any way to fix it? maybe i should do a factory reset? anyone has the same problem? sorry for my bad english
It's happening to me too. There is no way at the moment to fix this issue. The only way that i found is to not remove the battery every time just press and hold three buttons together (Volume Down + Home + Power) it will boot you to Download Mode. Just press volume down to restart it.
Yeah this happens to me occasionally, I cant find a better solution to this but removing battery or waiting for 2-5 min.
Android 5 is coming in 2 weeks hope this issue would be fixed and overall performance for S5 mini would be improved.

HTC One will not stop rebooting

Hi all,
Recently my HTC One would randomly have a pop-up that said something along the lines of "To reboot, press and hold the power button" along with a countdown and then the phone will reboot itself. This can happen any time, sometimes multiple times within a half hour, even when it is charging.
The last time it happened, it rebooted, got to the blank black screen, and rebooted again. I've plugged it in to charge but it would not stop rebooting. I've unplugged it to let it run out of battery so hopefully it would stop rebooting itself and I can try charging it again. Once it ran out of juice, I charged it and it continued rebooting itself. Pressing the power + volume keys only worked twice but the screen wouldn't stay long enough for me to select fast reboot or factory reset before rebooting itself again. Now pressing power + volume keys doesn't cause any effect on the phone.
I've never tempered with any of the software settings on my phone and it has been sent for repair three times last year. Also, my laptop does not recognise the phone when I plug it to my laptop.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Normally you get this message when holding the power button. So this message in addition to the rebooting issues makes me believe you have an hardware problem with your power button, maybe its stuck?

I tried pressing on the power button, it seems to be depressing fine. Is there any way I can affirm this?

I think what you explained at post #1 is enough to conclude your power button or something hardware related to it is the problem. I think you'll have to send your device for repair unfortunately unless you want to open the phone yourself to have a look which is not always good idea.

Black screen, capacitive buttons on

Ok, so here is my problem, I was in twitter and suddenly the phone froze, I press the power button for a while and my screen never turned on again, although I get the capacitive buttons on, at first I heard sounds like the lockscreen, I even somehow got to twrp with the screen off cause my pc recognised it in recovery mode.
I've tried to enter the mode for bricked phones but as I cannot see anything I'm unable, also tried pressing the power button for 20 seconds multiple times, dont know what else to do.
Any idea will be greatly appreciated.
Also, some info on the phone: OOS 4.1, phh roooted, magisk.
It should be press and hold power plus volume down, for around 20 seconds to force a reboot.

Yeah tried that mĂșltiple times to no avail, it was like the screen was not turning on.
I solved it by waiting 1 hour and trying again and suddenly it was working fine
This has happened to me a number of times already. It completely sucks. I boot to a black screen, capacitive buttons work, I can hold power button until I get the Power Off / Reboot menu, and from there reboot, but the screen keeps being on on the system. Recovery works fine, or so it would seem, because a few times, wiping system and reinstalling the OS gives me a "No OS installed. Are you sure you want to boot?" and EVERY time, the only solution ("solution") has been wiping data. It might start happening randomly, maybe updating Franco Kernel, maybe applying a substratum theme, maybe, like just now, after doing NOTHING at all. I don't know what to do anymore.
edit. of course, the hard bricking guide, step 2, works, but step 2 deletes your data, and if i remove the erase userdata lines, it doesn't do anything.
