Is it a good time too buy the P10 now - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

With all the news going around Huawei's false advertisement relating to the storage chip and the ram, is there news about what Huawei will decide to do, or are they still going quiet.
I'm still interested in getting the P10, but not knowing what i'll get. For those who does who have crap version, is there any noticable differences in normal daily use.
I'm open to suggestions, otherwise I have to decide whether to get the S8 or G6, but I prefer the P10 over those two.
Thanks

I think models in Europe should mostly have ufs storage. As for the ram, I've read that the kirin 960 cpu only supports lpddr4 type memory.
At the moment I have a p10, single sim 64gb version and have ufs memory, speeds are just shy of 700mb/s. Before I had an s7 edge.
I can say only this about my p10, it is BY FAR the fastest android phone that I have used. And I have used many. It rivals the iPhone 7, even beating it in some cases.
About the emmc version, I have watched a speed test between a xiaomi mi6 with ufs 2.1 and the xiaomi was faster by about 3 seconds at the end of the app opening test. They opened about 15 apps one after another and measured the total time.

Where they comparing the Xiaomi device to a eMMC device? Otherwise it's not comforting anyone getting a eMMC device

I am from Hong Kong, and we have the dual sim version, although I can check many phones at the shop, but I am not able to do this for the Huawei.
Will there be a really big differences between the memory used.

Yes, they were using a p10 with emmc memory. The speed difference was minor compared to mi6 with ufs 2.1.

I do not think there is much of a difference. Maybe only when copying large files.
Apple has done this with the iPhone 7 also. The baseline iPhone 7 and 7+ with 32gb of internal storage have about three times slower read/write speeds than the ones with 128/256.

Better to wait a month more for newer batches and less rush, so that the device comes with olephobic coating and UFS 2.1. However i don't expect a drop in price although might catch some temporary offers.

Thanks, got one locally and a brief testing, i get UFS 2.0, i'm happy with it, as long as it's not eMMC, even my sony Xperia XP is eMMC, and it's works well for me, although i traded it for the P10.

Is there a problem with WiFi speed on the P10? I saw some reviewers complaining about WiFi performance being way inferior compared to other 2017 and 2016 devices. Like P10 barely reaching 30mbit download speeds on 100 and more Mbit networks.

Thanks for the answer.
Is it a 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network? My current device - OnePlus 3 performs very good on 5Ghz but on 2.4Ghz it only reaches maybe 20mbit. And I use a 150Mbit broadband link at home. My wife's iPhone 6s easily tops 100mbit on the same WiFi.
The issues that some YouTube reviewers reported with the P10 looked like the one I have with my OP3.
I am considering an upgrade to P10 and I really want it to be an upgrade

Ufs 2.0
Not bothered about the silly bollocks thing as this p10 is the best phone iv had, certainly the fastest, coming from owning every HTC flagship since 2011

My first Huawei, and I really like it, choose this over the S8 and G6, it's a shame the pink version isn't available in Hong Kong, we only have the blue, black silver and gold, whiles china also have a pink and green, anyway, I intend to change the metal back, it's readly available in china very cheap, and seeing youtube, it's also very easy to change.
Also I get 42Mbps with 2.4Ghz and over 98Mbps with 5Ghz in wifi.

Not recommended to buy, I think xiaomi 6 more affordable

I have tried both on 2.4 and 5Ghz, though where I live internet speeds aren't so good, so the max I could have tested is 50mb/s. On both i always get over 48mb/s

it's down to personal preferences really, Mi 6 don't have a headphone jack and no micro SD card slot.

I've also owned a few flagships from HTC, Samsung and even iPhone.
Must admit that the P10 still is one of the quickest phones I've used. Battery does well, charging is quick.
Camera is fun to use and crisp. Fingerprint scanner is lightning fast. And I very much like the design of the phone.
Could've gone without EMUI, but given the opportunity to buy another P10 or a different flagship, I'd still opt for the P10.

I have 200/80 connection here in Bangkok. The P10 hits maximum with 5G connection. I find my 3 year old Samsung Galaxy Tab S hits consistently better speeds from further away, when compared to the P10. Hence, I use 2.4G when I am downstairs.

And also mi6 doesn't have all 3G/4G Band

Recent year Mi phones has become cheaply made and cost has increased, only their red mi has the cheap price.

Have some questions before buying Z2 plus ?

hello,
I have some questions before buying the Z2 plus,
1. in a youtube video I saw one reviewer pointing out that this device is having screen unresponsive issue while charging ? is it true ?
2. is QC3 working with this device ? I've seen some people pointing out even with Qualcomm certified QC3 charger, they couldn't get the qc3 speeds ?
3. Is the device having overheating issues ?
4. How is the screen quality ? I've seen some people complaining colors of the Z2 are muted.

1. Yes , it is true. But it's not that disturbing. The screen will not go totally unresponsive. But a little bit. You hardly find it irritating.
2. Never tried QC3 but some says it works. Whereas some says it dont. Maybe QC not enabled in the firmware.
3. Yes there is little bit overheating issue. Not a big problem as my friends xperia top of line premium smartphone also overheats . In Zuk z2 plus....Maybe it is because of the Plastic body. And the supplied back cover in the box will not let you notice the heating that much.
4. The colors are very sharp and quality is great as expected. I hardly notice any major muted color. But in comparison to AMOLED , yeah you can say a little bit difference is there. But overall its upto the mark.

To add my own experience:
1. Screen is a tiny bit unresponsive (has ghosting issues) and it's a bit noticeable if you're playing games that require multitouch, however I've never noticed it in regular usage, it really doesn't bother me. My old Nexus 5 has this issue x20. Battery life is really good though, I'm a medium-heavy user and I still get through the day with ~15% left over at the end of the day so you shouldn't need to use your phone whilst charging very often.
2. QC3 definitely doesn't work. Tried it on the 2.0.093 ST ZUI that came from Banggood and tried it on the Resurrection Remix ROM that I'm currently using (all MM based, haven't tried it on a Nougat based ROM). Theoretically the hardware should be able to do it, but it might be disabled in the kernel. Not sure why they still advertise as QC3 compliant, perhaps they intend on adding the feature with software updates but I wouldn't hold my breath.
3. The phone gets a bit warm during heavy usage and it might be due to the glass back which won't aid cooling as much as a metal one does, but it's never been uncomfortable to hold.
4. The colours problem might be due to ZUI. I found the color choices... uninspired and somewhat bland. I'm on RR now and I've set it to my preference and I really like it. Admittedly it's no Samsung SuperAMOLED, but the screen is not bad at all. Crisp and pleasant. I also think that material design looks really good on it in a way that it never did on my Nexus 5 (can't really explain it).
All in all, I'm really happy with the phone. Its only real competition is the mi5 and mi5s which besides being significantly more expensive, have that hideous black border that hides the side bezels. It's disingenuous and really spoils the look of the white version and it really put me off. I don't want a black phone. Though NFC would have been nice. *sigh*
I think most of the questions have been answered, but I'd like to also add that QC2/3 is not supported, but it does have fast charging of some kind. I did some research and testing, posted results here: http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/info-z2-quick-charge-speed-testing-discussion.3132/

I assume that you're in India since the 3GB variant seems to be an option (I can't find anywhere that ships it worldwide). If you're not that bothered about warranty and such, you should buy it from a chinese reseller, you can snag the 4GB variant significantly cheaper than the 3GB variant in India (14,999 INR vs ~11,200 INR), check out the info here. That's where I got mine from, but I'm in the UK and there's no official channels here.
You can even put the official Indian ROM on it and you'll get OTA updates and have a phone that's in every way identical to what amazon is selling.
That being said, I don't think that I've ever seen the available RAM drop under 1GB in the entire time I've had the phone so I don't think that the extra 1GB RAM would make any difference in your day to day. The extra 32GB of storage is nice to have, but my previous phone was a Nexus 5 with 16GB storage and I never had any significant issues with that.
All in all, I doubt that you'll notice any significant difference between the 3GB and the 4GB variant and the extra storage will only come in handy if you're downloading entire movies on your phone or have tons of giant games.
PS: The 4GB variant is selling on ebay.in for ~17-20,000 INR, one enterprising fella could buy the 4GB from China for ~11,200 INR, flash the official Indian ROM and sell it on ebay for 16,000 INR undercutting everyone else and making a healthy +4,000 INR profit per phone. If only I was living in India.

I just got one for 175 euros and I think its a steal. I just want a smaller phone. I hope to receive it as soon as possible.

Why upgrade to a OP6?

I am wondering why anyone, who has a OP5 or OP5T would upgrade?
My OP5 with the 835 CPU and 128Gb ram works great. OK, a couple of foibles, but there is no guarentee that they are fixed in the new one.
A new one has a slightly faster processor, OIS on the camera and a larger screen. Is that sufficient to change?
I'm curious - it's not a financial issue (I'm not broke), but I would need persuading.
Alan
It doesn't make sense.
1. With the speed upgrade what can you do or achieve in those split seconds.
2. Are those extra inch of display worth the price.
3. No comments on camera. Definitely those too are going to suck.
Wait for 7, I'm going to.

Why ask us? It's your money, buy it or don't buy it.
Well a few reasons. I'm coming from a 5 not a 5T, so this makes a difference.
1. I sell my current phone after a year to get maximum
value back. That keeps my or of pocket for a new phone
usually at $100-$150.
2. With free money through new car test drive rewards, I
have $220 in rewards added to my paypal account
making the $579 OnePlus 6 just $360. With the sale of my
OnePlus 5, I shouldn't have any money out of pocket and
may make$20 or $40
3. The processor and new band 71 support for TMobile is a
nice feature.
4. The camera is certainly better in comparison tests to the
pixel 2 and s9+. The 19% size increase of the camera pixel
and OIS make for much better low light photos and
video capture.
5. The screen is larger. Not a notch fan but it's smaller then
most and you can hide it. So if I don't like who cares it's
gone.
There may be a few other reason I'm missing but to me those are what stick out right now. Oh and with glass, better reception and 4x4 MIMO (Gigabit LTE)
Edit: I wasn't sure but just read that the 128gb and 256gb storage options will both have UFS 2.1. I previously thought it was just the 256gb storage option. That will be huge speed increase in storage.
If I were you, I wouldn't "upgrade" to the OnePlus 6, nothing new besides OIS, larger screen and new CPU. Just a waste of money

Definitely disagree. 4x4 MIMO for Gigabit LTE, UFS 2.1 storage (OP5 eMMc is 400mbps and UFS 2.1 is 1.5gbps), OIS plus 19% larger pixels for better low light pics, band 71 for TMobile users, bigger screen and more power efficient SoC.
It may not be enough for you to upgrade but certainly not a waste.

Ahh I stand corrected, thought it had eMMc. All good. The rest is correct and still more then enough to upgrade from the 5, maybe not the 5T though.
Buy OP6 if you want that notched and back-shattering experience.
Considering that there is a 99.9% chance the 6T will be released in November, I'll hold onto my €600 and see if anything actually worth while comes on it that justifies spending the money compared to the 6.
I wouldn't bother. True the processor (I hear) is 30% faster but you have to balance that with the highly not-durable all glass body (front and back) and the minimal improvements. Too much risk to justify buying a new one.
Now that I think about it, there actually is one big improvement - project Treble.

Not a huge improvement, actually.
OnePlus dev community is one of the best and the 5 and 5t should receive many Android upgrades after OnePlus discontinues their support.
Also, with the latest OpenBetas, they've made changes to the partitions and the Camera Hal. Everything points to future Treble support for the 5 and 5t: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...opment/discussion-guide-oneplus-5-5t-t3776358
Cuz why not?
imo you should wait for 6T to release. People always buy non-T phones and get nervous after few months when OnePlus releases an upgraded version for the same price.
The reason why I would not move to OP6 from OP5 (no T)
- fingerprint on back (as also OP5T) is to me the biggest problem, considering I'm keeping the most of the time the phone on a desk
- camera: it's from OP3 they are saying it way better than before... but nothing (of few) has changed. If you buy OP, Camera it's not your nr 1 need
- is way bigger than a OP5 (of course, also OP5T)
- price !!
Here some reason why I would move:
- bigger screen (even if that notch...)
- 256GB possibility (but what a price !)
- Support to LTE Cat 13 and the 2x2 MIMO WiFi
Honestly I will stay on 5 until 6T and then let's see (if the will use fingerprint below screen)
I have been a pretty progressive one+ buyer. Daughter has one+3, wife has 1+3plus and I have the 5. Of course we've sold couple of oneplusone's and x. Since the 3 came out, everyone has been super satisfied with our devices. No root/custom ROM was required. Why do I upgrade? Because that's what our family do. It has definitely helped with keeping the cost down and everyone happy. I'm pretty sure other than cosmetics, not too much difference will be noticeable with 6. All of our one+ devices are in great working condition and still fast! Can't really tell the phones apart from the other. I try to upgrade every year. So does everyone in the family.
Basically , only because i have 64GB and to upgrade to 128 or 256
Just wait for T version, buying this mobile if you have oneplus 5 is pointless, even with T could be still pointless, it is just smartphone and almost exactly as previous one. Bigger screen is not 'life changer'

2k screen, wireless charging, better cameras
Unfortunately it's more than hardware that determines this. Hopefully they communicate with the buyers more and update the OS quickly and frequently. If Asus is smart they'll send developer phones and work with the mod community like they're doing for the Zenfone 6. Unfortunately while there are plenty of examples of what to do to get loyal customers and brand evangelists most refuse to do the usually simple things required to achieve this.

China version 8+128GB, 500USD. Not pricey.
500USD? That’s gotta be because of the Tencent (owner of PUBG) partnership. No doubt in my mind that phone comes with some Tencent bloatware.
International version will definitely be more expensive though, especially if the bloatware’s not on it.
I heard they are also working on a stock android version reminds me of the Google Play Edition phones.

That sucks...
Does your area has coverage?
Yeah i was figuring that firmware region change would solve the problem but no global firmware is out
Yes my area covers 5G.

Hows it going for you have you used the 5G ?

Well, I hope that samsung releases a firmware that would allow you to connect to 5g..
In my area only one provider supports 5g but it's very expensive, so I will wait for more providers that will have cheaper 5g

Thank you sir
Yeah usually expensive even here too high but i got a no commitment contract i cancel anytime with no extra fees.
I'm testing it with the Huawei 5G CPE Pro H370 Router
So far geeting Down 550 Mbps Up around 60 Mbps max to 11 Mbps min.
Will test different areas for the sake of my crazy OCD in speed tests :silly:

I got the A90 5g as a contract upgrade about a week ago. I have unlimited 5g data as part of my plan but don't currently have 5g in my area until early 2020, so can't comment on the 5g but I managed to unlock the boot loader and root it. I will attempt to create custom recovery for it but that will take much longer.

That's great news, thanks for working on this phone
I will post a quick guide later tonight.
As far as the phone itself. I love (nearly) everything about it. The screen is large, the display looks great and is bright, the cameras are the best I've used (although I'm no expert by any means), it runs really smooth. Even some of the Samsung bloat is useful like game launcher. The battery is fantastic, charging time is very fast. Gaming performance is A++ with the flagship CPU.
"Bad" things....6gb of ram, I had a RAZR phone with 8gb and you can tell the difference. I see they released a version with 8gb but alas mine isn't.
The fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as well in the screen as opposed to on the side or back where I'm used to it.
I also got this phone for "free" with my contact, I wouldn't exactly call £700 gbp mid range and I certainly would not have bought this on sim only. The Asus ROG would have been my choice with much better specs and a cheaper price tag albeit losing the 5g.

I managed to unlock the boot didn't root yet, still KT telecom bloatware on it it's annoying me even when i power up 5G KT logo stickin at bottom I just want to use my 5G package it's only giving me around 150+/- Mbps showing LTE+ i think it's network locked. Guess i have to wait for the global firmware or middle east cuz i reside their atm :crying: otherwise like what you said an awesome phone only downside 6GB RAM.
Thanks for sharing
Have to disagree with the ram comment. I also had and still have my Razer. The most ram i seemed to have in use on the Razer was around 3Gb meaning 4-5Gb Ram was just sat there... On my A90 theres still 2.1Gb of ram still not being used. The battery management miles better on the A90 than the Razer. The 120Hz LCD screen ate the battery after the last update (9) whereas the OLED panel is brilliant on the A90. DPI and resolution not as high as the Razer, but the overall picture still looks better on the A90. I do miss the Dual Dolby Atmos speakers on my Razer but the "Free Galaxy Buds" sound brilliant.

I purchased two days before the galaxy buds offer -_-

V40 in 2020 still worth it?

Hello I'm still on my G6 and planning to upgrade soon. (OLED and camera improvements, hopefully battery)
I'm now having my eye on the Huawei P30 and LG V40, can't decide. Size doesn't really matter, does someone have experience with both phones? I like to keep the 3,5mm, however I'm using a Bluetooth a lot last few months.
They both are around 350 euro's now, recommendations?
Yes, but 350€ is too much imho, you can almost get 2019 phones for that money. Battery life isn't stellar but better than reviews suggest.

What phones would you suggest? The galaxy S10 is still around 500, I love OnePlus for the tweakability but no extendable storage and 3.5 mm. And the pro edition is huge (6,7 inch)

v40 is a good phone and with Android 10 out for it (att ) the ATT phone is best for the Euro Market, just make sure its unlocked. You can then keep it stock and get the update to android 10 if its not already, or just flash it over to the unlocked firmware when it comes out.
350 euro is about double what you should be paying for it.
Teh battery life is good but not the best out there, i still mage on average a full day wuth 4.5 hours at 70% brightness, no gaming, just browsing and youtube.

Thanks! But ATT is for the US market right? I'm from the Netherlands, so I don't think the risk and shipping cost will make it worth it to import. The 350 euro version is with 128 GB in built storage, but on my G6 I also still get around 4-5 hours SOT?

Just the EU model. Its much easier to unlock as it has official bootloader unlocking
You could also have a look at the Mi9T pro for 350 euros or so.
DON'T buy the US model if you're not planning to use it in US, unless its the last choice or is much cheaper
@tech_infinity Unfortunately the Mi9T Pro EU version goes till 128 GB storage. I need more, so the 256 GB one but that one isn't sold in Europe unfortunately ?

Oh I thought it had SD card support, that's why I suggested it. Seems like it doesn't have sd card support
How much does the Samsung s10 or note 9 cost there?

S10 is €570, note 9 is €600
But then I don't gain on audio right? Only camera maybe a little bit. For 250 euros more I think the V40 camera with gcam would be good enough. Or then the Huawei P30?
In the US the phones are way less expensive I think, better deals. Western Europe is just expensive phones
I just sold my Galaxy Note 10 (which I bought after V30) and now using V40. Very pleased overall.
Cameras on newest Samsung flagships are just TRAGIC given the money You spend on them and wouldn't recommend buying any of them.

Hmm interesting. Anything other than camera that made you switch to V40?
Was thinking about buying a v40 or a samsung flagship

To be honest, not much. I just always felt bad with how inconsistent that camera was. In good light conditions it could produce a beauty of a picture just to screw things up in another. Lowlight photos were better than on V40, but required a LOT of steady hand - so you can achieve the same effect on LG using pro mode and setting the time of capturing for few seconds. Also I felt that it was always trying to process a photo to make it look better, which sometimes gave just bad results - oversaturated (especially on front camera) and with strange artefacts. You could say the main disappointment came from the fact how much money I've spent on Samsung and results of its camera. The battery was ok, but given the screen is only 1080p that was expected.
Keep in mind that bigger Note10+ has TOF sensor and possibly could manage photos better. But given how there are many problems with S20 cameras (especially on the Ultra model) it could just be that Samsung cameras are going downhill.

And how is battery performance for you on the V40? (SOT?)
I'll try to test it for You because I have a rather strict policy in keeping the battery charged more than 50% so cannot really say SOT specifics. But it is about the same as it was on Samsung and V30.
Ok so, after that post I unplugged charger at 94%, now at 10%. SOT 4h17min, 8h46min total usage. Facebook, Twitter, 9gag, camera (few photos and videos), some web browsing (chrome). Wifi, BT, GPS, data on all the time.
So I'd say it should reach about 5h SOT of moderate use from 100 to 0.

Okay thanks! That's about the same as on my G6 (still on fulmics android 7). Nowadays with Corona I'm on my phone much more and I have to recharge in the evening. Maybe Huawei P30, but I can't read anywhere about the audio quality through 3.5 mm jack, and whether it is tweakable.
I'm considering the V40 got the audio and price, but battery is a bit disappointing
TBH I was heavily thinking about P30, but lack of wireless charging made it a no-go for me. Also, those expensive nanoSD cards.

I don't care much for wireless charging, what I'm more worried about is sound quality. I listen to music a lot, but I don't know if the audio quality (3.5mm) is anywhere near the quad DAC from LG..
And yeah, but maybe those cards are cheaper via AliExpress

Plus the Mi9 's are around 400 dpi. V40 is over 500dpi. I just bought one for 375 euro. I cant find a fast phone with high density oled screen for half the price as some are suggesting here.
