Not so smart Samsung Galaxy S4 - Off-topic

My Samsung Galaxy Tablet running Android 4.4.2 seems to be a far better version of Android than whats on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. Because at least I don't also, have to carry around with me a note book and pen, so I can store, all extra contact details I need for my contacts. And not just the one lousy phone number the stupid Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, allows me to have. Like. All of my contacts have residential street addresses. And some have more more than one contact phone number. And a lot also have email addresses, ad even web addresses. But the not so smart stupid Samsung Galaxy S4 doesn't permit me to anything other than just one lousy contact phone number per contact.
My Samsung Galaxy Tablet's operating system also came with a built in Note app. I'm still searching for one on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. No wonder people prefer to buy and use Iphones

[Q] Question for Orange UK customers

Hi,
I am a Galaxy Nexus owner and I sent an email yesterday to Orange asking if they were planning on porting the Orange Quick Tap app (mobile NFC payments) to Android phones like the Galaxy Nexus.
I got a call back just now and she said she didn't know, but she read a list of phones that have Quick Tap and the Galaxy Note was one of them. However I searched online and I don't see any reference to Quick Tap payments relating to the Galaxy Note.
Do you guys have the Quick Tap app on your Notes? If so I'd love to get the apk and try it on my Galaxy Nexus!
I don't have it on mine - emailed Samsung and they said they might support NFC on an ICS upgrade at some point. Very confusing, as the Note doesn't seem to have the chip required...
Did you ask for Technical Team?
Call operator CS on Orange is useless, especially when asking them about Android Upgrades

I just emailed Samsung UK and this is their response:
Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.
In response to your query, the Samsung Galaxy Note currently would not support NFC with or without an NFC battery. The gingerbread operating system does not support NFC. In the future when the Galaxy Note receives the Ice Cream Sandwich update then the device would have the software that supports NFC.
So it would seem that we will get NFC when the ICS update appears. Hooray!
At least I think that is what that reply means...
and how would you use NFC without the NFC chip?? software is not everything
Nice and confusing since NFC was "optional" for the Note and not integrated into the European model as best I can tell. NFC is available in the Note 2... Most likely if the option to enable NFC was not there in Gingerbread the device doesn't have it.
Android Gingerbread did not support some of the technology required to make work Quick Tap work (Single Wire Protocol IIRC) and therefore Quick Tap will never work on a Gingerbread phone. To answer the original question - Oranges' Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for some devices included the Quick Tap App - but it doesn't work yet. Although some devices, the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3 being prime examples, have an embedded secure element for Wallet-type payments Orange and Barclaycard have opted for the Secure Element to be located in the SIM card. This also applies to the Galaxy S2 NFC (aka GT-I9100P) which lacks the secure element but does have NFC so with an appropriate SIM card will also support Quick Tap. FWIW the only phone currently supported for Quick Tap payments is the Galaxy S3.

Is the Galaxy Note 4 your first Samsung phone? (poll)

I am buying a Galaxy Note 4 on Friday. This will be my first ever Samsung phone.
I've previously avoided them due to the extra software, but this time around the combination of hardware was just too much. I really like phones that feature capacitive buttons because I think it's much more efficient, and that really reduces the number of high end flagship phones a lot.
I wish the phone were slightly smaller, but I'll manage.
What about the rest of you? Is this is your first Samsung phone? (poll in thread, please vote)
Not my first, just upgraded from S4 GT-i9506. Picked up my new Note 4 today and I'm already loving it
I've stuck with samsung as I think keeping SDCard support, unlocked bootloader (although now with the new KNOX it voids warranty) and replaceable battery are worth the extra (albeit small due to my carrier) bloatware added to their devices and all the bloat can be removed (depending on your carrier).
Previously I had the Galaxy 5 (not the S5) and the Galaxy S3
No, moved on from GS3. Won't be rooting it for at least a year I guess so don't care about knox counter, most unwanted bloatware can be disabled unlike the GS3 at the beginning, so yeah, having fun with N4 so far.
I've seen the light. Ditching my iphone. I just want the freedom of android and the superior hardware of the Note.
From Samsung Galaxy S2 which was my first smartphone to Samsung Galaxy note 4.
There is something about Samsung electronics as a whole that appeal to me.
My TV is a sammy and my next one will be as well...
SIII was my first Samsung phone
I got an S2 around the time the S4 came out. Untill now i really liked my s2's screen as the colours and blacks were a lot better compared to other phones like iphone and most lcd screens
now i finally got my note 4 and every morning when i wake up i'm like wow its amazing
Its the first one i actually paid myself so its a yes and a no to me
Had a tmobile camera samsung phone back in 2001 or 2002. Then had numerous other phones. And the Galaxy S1, Note 2, Note 4.
Nope had Samsung Epic 4G before.
I600 Blackjack
I900 Omnia
I9000 Galaxy S
P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 (yes I used a tablet as my phone for 2 years)
Note 4

No, I had a S2, S3 and have a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) besides my new Note 4.
I'm not a Samsung fanboy though, I really hate their update politics and I'm not a fan of their bloatware. Touchwiz is okay though.
On the other hand I like their hardware and of course the stylus that comes along with the Note series.
The Samsung service in Germany is also pretty good.
First Samsung phone, yes, but I have Note 10.1 tablet and it's quite great even for his age. I wrote hundreds of pages on it.
It's not my first Samsung, but it is my first note. my first Samsung was the Reality u820
Nope, I had a Galaxy s2 first then a Galaxy s4 after that, both phones lasted perfectly until upgrade time, including great battery life and Android updates.
First smartphone was a nokia n8.?
later i had a HTC Desire and HTC one x
I wanted a fast phone with sd and removable battery and choose for note 4
I like it very much and it's my best and fastest phone ever
Sent from my SM-N910C using XDA Free mobile app
Started with the Captive -> S2 -> Note 1, S3, Note3, S4, and now Note 4
Nope, upgraded from my GS4 32GB I9500 3weeks ago to my metal beauty Note 4
Also had S2 16GB and S3 32GB, so its in no way my 1st Samsung, and if the Note 5 is even better than this awesome thing then I wont be leaving Samsung anytime soon.
HTC WFS - Nexus 4 - Nexus 5 - Note 4
Ive had the S2, S3, S4, Note 3 and Note 4. S3 being the weakest link, Note 4 being the strongest.
Just never liked the design on the S3 in comparison to the others. Too organic for my taste. Like the Nexus 6.

Need some suggestions and clarification.

I am using mi Pad 1 for almost a year. Now I am considering to buy a new tab. I have a budget of around 200$. Galaxy tab S2 8.0 Nook edition is available on eBay for around 200$. Should I buy it now or wait for Tab S3 release hopefully that will bring a price cut to original tab S2? Any suggestions on it would be helpful.
Is there any real difference between Tab S2 and S2 Nook?
Can I flash tab S2 ROMs on Nook edition?
It seems to be the exact same tablet from what I can tell after looking at the specs, the only difference seems to be the barnes and koble added digital freebies and apps. I have the original Samsung galaxy tab s2 and it's an amazing device so I would definitely go for it contigent upon what was just mentioned. The only awful thing about the tablet is the fingerprint reader, from what I read it's using the same technology as the s5 for this. As for roms yes I don't see why it would be an issue as it seems to be an identical tablet, I have the t715 model and as far as I'm aware there aren't any stable roms for it currently or if there is, there must be a very limited number since I can't really find any.

Can you use android pay on a galaxy gear? Instead of samsung pay?

So I have a galaxy s8 and im looking to buy a new watch to go with it.
The galaxy gear s3 is looking like the most appealing option BUT. Since my galaxy s8 is rooted and has KNOX tripped, I cant use samsung pay on my phone. Does this mean I wont be able to use samsung pay on my watch too?
Or alternatively, will I just be able to use android pay instead of samsung pay on the gear s3?
No
If your phone is rooted you are unable to use android pay unless it was rooted (KNOX tripped) but no longer rooted. Then Samsung pay won't work but android pay will however gear apps (Tizen OS apps) do not have an app for android pay if you want that get a android watch OS watch.
In my option they don't look as good as gears so I cope with just using android pay from my phone since the phone has to be on me for the apps to work anyway.

Compatibility samsung smartwatch on galaxy tab s2 T819

Hi,
Today I bought the latest samsung smartwatch R800. Apparently this watch is not compatible with my galaxy tab S2 (T819). I called Samsung support but they couldn't help and told me I have to use a phone. Is there a way to make it work on this tab? If not it's going back to the shop because it's no use for me if can't link to the tablet. Strange Samsung even makes products that are not compatible with their own devices!

I'm wondering that too. It's been 2 years for you, and how did it go??? I'm switching to an old Tab S2 8.0 and my watch isn't connecting.
