P10 connecting to usb dac - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Hello. Has anyone had any luck connecting a USB dac to the Huawei P10?

I saw mention of the FiiO K1 connecting without issues in a Pocketnow review. If my memory serves me correctly.
You having issues?

Not working for me either on a P10+. USB OTG doesn't work either. There might be a setting in the menus somewhere that I haven't found, however.

I have my P10 working with both OTG and LG/B&O Hifi Dac.

There is settings for Usb connection in the developer settings menu. I didn't have any luck with my Ibasso D-zero

Mine is just plug and play, no settings needed, only OTG, when you insert the OTG, a USB logo on top shows up, and you just select files transfer, for file transfer or play direct through OTG with media files.

The setting in the developer menu was set to PTP on my phone, I changed it to MTP and now when I plug my DAC in I can get it to play okay. It sometimes needs me to mess about with the USB icon in the notifications but at least it works now. I'll need to find my USB OTG cable and verify if that has also been resolved.

I just tested with my old Bedringer UCA 222. And that seems to work. So I guess Huawei and Ibasso don't work together.

There is another USB setting also, Lydkilde.. Thats norwegian/danish... In English it would be USB Soundsource or something..

I have a P10 Lite and a Fiio DAC. It does not work for me with most of the apps. However using Neutron Player I can override the OS USB setting and that plays music fine. However its pretty useless as an option when trying to stream from Spotifu or Soundcloud

Thanks for the reply. I have tried setting MTP in dev options with no change. The Hua player does not work for me using the DAC. So far my only joy is with Neutron player, however I am trying to use Soundcloud and Spotify. My otg cable is good as far as I can tell. As I have used it successfully with my Sony Z2

Can CellphoneUSB DAC be used in Spotify? I thougth not... Huawei player is not for USB, You must have Neutron or Onkyo or Poweramp, Sony music player is free and also has USB dac option....

Little help for anyone
Got cables today, cannot post it here, but you can find it on aliexpress:
LEORY Type-C USB 3.1 To USB 3.0 OTG Adapter Type C Data Cable Connector For Macbook For Letv Max For Xiaomi 4C USB C Cable
USB-C to USB-C Cable,0.5m USB Type-C to Type C Cable for ChromeBook Pixel for for MacBook for Lumia 950/950 XL for Nokia N1
Old cables refused to work through adapters. These work properly. USB flash drives are connected. I checked both with external usb-dac. The first one with Fiio x3. The second cable - to connect the dac from LG G5 (Hi-fi plus). Everything is fine Works without dancing with a tambourine.

Resurrecting a dead thread but for anyone still wondering - I took a chance and the Fiio Q1 works with my P10 Plus with a Samsung OTG adapter without changing anything. Using Google Play Music - plug it in and audio output swaps over as soon as I power up the Q1.

I got a usb super speed OTG cable.. I'm very happy with the P10 Spotify Extreme blutooth and flacs and High-res jack...
I have thought about buying a Fiio k1 Dac, just to try it, but don't know if I need it...
Happy with sq and volume and everything, use Poweramp and Sony music centre Jack and LDac other than Spotify..

Sadly, I can't say... Don't have that phone anymore - traded it for a Z2 Play (came with the projector, speaker, battery pack, and camera mods!), traded that for a V30.
It *should* work though, I believe it rerouted all audio output automatically.

Thanks anyway, currently investigating whether it would be good to go on a separate dac/amp + smartphone setup or just a phone with good dac builtin like V30,

For those that are still interested, p20 supports neutron hi-res player settings upto 24bit/192khz. And using razer usb-c DAC dongle works without problems.

[Q] HDMI Dock digital audio out

Just bought the dock thing and tried to put it to work with the HDMI out on a philips HD tv, and it happens that there is no audio at all. I know the analog speakers are disabled when the HDMI is working, the audio provided by the HDMI is really not working.
I have no clue of what is happenning. I am getting just the image fom the tab but no audio at all.
I hope someone knows what is going on and help me.
I'd really appreciate the help.
tks.
Hi. The problem seems to be application dependent. When I use RockPlayer and VitalPlayer digotal audio is there through a docking station. Other players including stock one output just analog audio. Regards. K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Tks mate but when I used the rock player I am still getting no sound at all. Its not just the rock player but even the native one or any music player. The sound isn't passing through the hdmi cable.

I will conect the tab to the TV set in few minutes to double check my findings once more. Btw I use the latest firmware MCD. Regards K

Actually, I can now confirm that I have digital audio output from the docking station with any of the mwdia players including the stock one. When initially started, all the players mute the audio when the tab is in the station. Pls volume up through hardware keys and you will have the audio output. Regards K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
The volume is up when plugin to the dock and yet I get no sound changed the volume up and down but no answer. Have two Philips televisions and different models here and on both I get the same issue, no digital sound. The analog sound is fine when plugin the av cables. Now I wonder if the hdmi cable isn't working or is the tv that doesn't like the dock.

Can you post the details of the cable including it's version number. It may be you have an incorrect cable.

I bought the dock to connect the tab to my projector and I found out that when the hdmi is in use all the audio will go to the hdmi cable.
Now my projector has very poor speakers and no audio out. I really hate that I can't use my Bluetooth speakers when using the dock.
There is some way to split the hdmi signal in video and analog audio?

Still have video and no sound
So, I still have the problem. I have the dock connected to power from the supplied (5v 2a) adapter. I then connect it to my tv. Video works great. I also speculated that maybe I had to use the 3.5mm jack for sound but that isn't working either.
I also have an adapter for rca-out and that's working fine, but I'd rather have the better quality available to me via HDMI.
I've got no solution yet. As I did, put here your the specs of your cable, maybe its something about that cable tho.

hdmi cable info
So, it's still not working for me. I don't have the box the other cable came in so today I went out and got a new one. I now have one of these:
http://www.digitalwarehouse.nl/hdmi-kabel-type-a-type-c-mini-2m.html
It is a type-A <-> type-C high speed HDMI Cable. I told the guy when I bought it that it had to be v 1.3 and he said it was though I don't see that on the box any where. I know for sure that my original cable was a v 1.3 because I remember reading that on the box when I bought it.... The only other info I see on the packaging is this:
Transfer rate: 10,2 Gbit/s
BandWidth 340 MHz
ARC audio return channel
My problem persists and to eliminate other potential causes, I've now tried it on another TV as well: no dice
It could very well be the cable. I have had some HDMI cables not output sound from DVD players. Here is the cable I bought and it outputs everything, sound, video the works.

Having my tab on my TV rocks
right cable
Well, I live in sweden. Ordering from Amazon is not ideal for me. Is there any other way I can get an indication that it might be the cable? I am loathe to keep buying cables assuming that it's the issue... I mean, is there something on the cable itself that I can look for? Certains pins or something?
/geir
I dont know that much about HDMI cables, does kinda seem pointless to keep buying cables.
Possibly google it? I would say try it on something else, however nothing else you own probably need A to C hdmi connection.
All I know is thats the cable I bought and it works perfect for me on my 4 year old projection LCD
Tested the cable with something else...
Ok, so my daughter has a camcorder which will take a mini hdmi cable. I just tested both cables with her camcorder and both of them give me video and sound...
If the cable is the issue it's definitely not because it isn't at all capable of handling audio
Any chance anyone has any other ideas? I just have this feeling there is something else going on... Like maybe I need to flash to a new version or something.
I have a european tab, in case that matters.

OTG with USB DAC

Hey All,
I'm trying to get my N6 >> OTG >> DAC setup working.
Previously, I was using a Note 4 and this worked just fine. Exact same setup.
On the N6, I'm not getting anything; no output. I'm using USB Audio Player Pro and it does not detect the USB audio device that is my DAC. If I use Neutron or Google Music, it just out rights output to the N6 speakers.
I had a split second of success when using a USB hub that was externally powered, but it stops after a second of audio. If I go straight from the N6 to DAC, I get nothing.
Everything is pointing me to the lack of power output from the N6. I suspect the Note 4 provides more amps?
I found a reddit thread that said they disabled USB charging somehow and had success, but they didn't elaborate on how it was done.
Any help and feedback us much appreciated!
Maybe the fact that the Nexus 6 is not host (OTG) - compatible can help you ?
I don't know how you can make it OTG-compatible, but if you have a way to do this, I would like to know it
USB Audio Player pro works just fine playing 192kHz Flac files through my AudioQuest FireFly, not sure why youre having issues....
I've tested with and Audioengine D1 and a JDS Labs ODAC. Both failing. OTG works, because I can connect USB mouse and USB storage just fine.
Samsung's give out much more power than Nexus devices. Samsung can power a mechanical hdd via OTG where as the nexus generally can't.
Is this something specific to Samsung hardware? Surely, there must be a way on the Nexus. It's essentially a battery and a USB port.

It was originally specific to Samsung. The S3 was the first device able to power a USB HDD.. Whether more devices can now or not, I cannot say.
That's not to say every device that needs power won't work, just those that need more power. I'm sure other usb dac devices work.. Whether yours needs more power than those, I dont know.
like I said, its working for me...so it could be the DACs you have require more power than the NX6 puts out, or maybe it just doesnt like the OTG cable you are using. try another that you know works

With that theory, I should be able to power any DAC using a powered USB (dedicated source) as a buffer. This worked momentarily for the Audioengine D1, but then it is cut-off. I've read somewhere that some DACs will try and detect if the power is from a "self-powered" source. Not sure where I'm going with this as I don't expect a work around. Just wanted to mention that note.

Try with a powered otg cable. Like this; http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW
One plug to charger, one plug to phone, device in the last.

While the factory firmware is not configured to mount a usb disk, the device and kernel are both most definitely otg ready.

I bought a Lexar USB Flash drive and it does work
I tried a couple of type C adapters, and both work.
I got ahold of an Apple USB-C cable and it worked on my Z Force, so I'd say it's a pretty good bet for the Play as well.

I have bought the OTG-USB from Anker (USB-C to USB 3.0).
Works perfect. Testet 4GB USB 2.0 and 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Lexar USB 3.0 Sticks with "exFAT".
All working fantastic.

Thanks for the post. Reminded me to dig out my adapter and try it with my USB thumbdrive. With my battery pack, this thing would last forever on a airplane
I use sandisk Otg usb drive works perfect!!!!
the speed are really slow . I am using a usb-c to usb and the speed are only 2MB/s while I get 150MB/s witht eh same USB stick on my pc ,
The nonda USB-C to USB 3.0 Mini Adapter does not seem to work - I have contacted their support and am waiting to see what thy say.
Tried it with a two USB drives and a USB DAC. All of them are recognized that they are connected but the drives says they are corrupt and the USB DAC outputs garbage noise.
It used to work with Meenova micro usb card reader and a c-type adapter, as with c-type card reader, I also could connect and read/write hdd (ntsc and exfat) BUT.....
ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STOPS EVEN RECOGNIZING ANY USB TYPE DRIVES/CARDS

Total C and it's plugin have to create a dup of the file you want to send to a player. Pretty nonfunctional for quarter to 1 GB music file. File Commander just links the file, instant player transfer.
Well, Poweramp is claiming to support any phone for native DAC abilities. They have a request forum. I posted a thread in Q & A. The latest version will browse our OTG but only uses our DAC to 44k. Ours is capable of 192k. USB audio does use our DAC fully but no OTG and no plans to do so.
If you tolerate 44k get Poweramp.

I don't have a USB-C OTG cable, but if you press and hold both the share + ps buttons while the controller is in standby it turns on BT.
Then on your phone go to the bluetooth menu and connect and it works wireless. Why use OTG when you can use wireless

Send to a player? What are you talking about? I meant the integrated player of TC, not sending to a player. Just tested it out: long select a file, press play, and it instantly plays. I'm quite sure there is no limit. Select some music, add it to the TC player queue, I'm quite sure it will work.

Using TC while browsing OTG:
When I select a flac file(bitrate 192k) and ask TC to open as audio, it makes a copy in internal memory. I would then play it with https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/themes/music-players-one-standout-dac-to-192k-t3533577 .
I did not try it's internal player as it would use the DAC of our phone at 44k bitrate, standard CD quality.
My concern is music played from OTG. I did not try it but I think it would need to duplicate the file even when playing from it's internal player

Don't think so. It should just play. Of course it will use some buffer for playing, but you shouldn't notice that.
My recommendation was "try TC with internal player". That requirement with more than 44 kHz came later. You wrote "TC does not work, but I didn't try the internal player." Guess I'm out of here now. Good luck!

Well, we don't all have Macbook Pro docks so does it work without that?
I bought a USB-C to HDMI cable today but I can't get it to work – are there any settings (or apps?) that I'd need to change/install to get this to work?
I just want to be able to plug my phone into a TV and play videos when I'm in hotels or away from home etc.
I'm new to both Android and the Nokia 8 so maybe I'm just missing something that's obvious?
(The most annoying thing is that it works perfectly on my old Nokia Lumia 950XL Windows Phone.)

From what I know the native support works with USB-C portable adapters with a HDMI port. Don't know about the cable ones.
I have this, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZTRI42/, and it's working well with the native support of the HTC U11, still don't know about Nokia 8 though
I've contacted Nokia customer care and that's their official answer regarding this matter:
"Thank you for contacting Nokia Mobile Care!
We would like to inform you that the Nokia 8 does not support video out through the USB type C neither the HDMI. If you want to connect the phone to the TV please try to buy the chromecast to cast the device to the TV.
We hope that the above information is useful for you! If not, or if you have another question, please feel free to contact us again.

Are you sure that the Nokia 8 can cast its screen though a macbook pro dock to an external display through HDMI @Luhccas-X10 ?
I have a dodcool usb c hub and hdmi does not work on 8.1
I got my Nokia 8 today and tried a USB-C to HDMI cable I used on my old HTC U11 and unfortunately it does not work.
I'm very much doubting that the Nokia 8 has this ability.
Well today I tried a macbook dock and no joy, seems pretty conclusive that it doesnt work
I'm pleased to confirm that Displaylink works with Nokia 8! I used this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01B5RN9ZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In theory any Displaylink hub or cable should work, note that you need to connect to the phone via a USB host cable e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GKS2HCE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This should work on most devices with a USB port, for me it works on my Kindle HD and Laptop too should its a useful thing to have anyway.
I got the info from a thread for the OnePlus 5T so more info in there:

Well, very odd!
I tried a Displaylink-based hub myself with a Nokia 8 and it didn't work for me just like the regular adapters (which all of them, including the Displaylink one, worked with my HTC U11).
So, please elaborate about what you did. Is it a plug & play process? Did you do anything special to make it work for you?
By the way, I tried it with this Dell hub (which is Displaylink based on http://www.displaylink.com/products/find?vid_hdmi=1):
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/acce...note_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=1&~ck=dellSearch
So firstly you need to have the displaylink app installed on your phone, apart from that you should just have to plug it in - the app will then prompt you to start showing your screen which you say OK to and that's it.
However... I found that the vast majority of the time it just simply doesn't work. Every time the device has a notification to say a device it connected and drawing power but very rarely will the displaylink actually work. I literally had to connect and disconnect the device around 100 times on some attempts before it works, sometimes fewer but the weird thing is once its connected and working, I can remove it and plug it back in and it will work straight away.
Its a really strange issue which I don't understand, it cant be the cable as it works consistently but only after getting it to work that first time. I'm thinking there may be a bug with the 8.1 firmware as another forum mentioned the maximum charge amp is reduced in 8.1. Another forum mentioned that on the Xperia XZ Premium display link only works with external power to the displaylink hub so perhaps its drawing to draw too much power and its just a fluke that it occasionally will work. Unfortunately I tried to connect external power to my hub and blew it so I can't test any further
I've tried the same setup on a Galaxy S7 Edge and that worked every time, no issue so it must be something strange with the device OR the adaptor used to convert the displaylink hub from USB to USB C.
LUHCCAS-X10
You fraud. I bought my Nokia 8 on the basis of your post. Because you decided to post this BS, and then made a prompt exit from this thread.
Now I am stuck with it. With this phone and with no ability to hook it up to my projector without unacceptable levels of latency through Chromecast or some such.
I even wasted money on this USB-C to HDMI cable (Thunderbolt 3 compatible), that doesn't work.
My only hope now is this DisplayLink setup. Any more news on it?

Although they didn't specify which. None of them say they use displayport but I guess its possible, if so then perhaps they are not a fraud.
I have ordered a new displaylink hub so I will let you know if that works more consistently than the other one I tried.
Sounds good, please update the thread if you get the Hub. I want to use the Nokia with my Car Radio via HDMI (Appradio Unchained)
Displaylink adapter support
I'm happy to confirm that I managed to get the Nokia 8 connected to a TV using a DisplayLink adapter. :victory:
It's working pretty good (both image and sound) as long as the DisplayLink presenter app is installed.
From the first couple of minutes with it I didn't experience any issues that @jamhtcman mentioned and it's working very well at any time that I plug in the adapter to the phone (without an external power source).
Link to the adapter that I'm using:
- Link is broken -
Side note: You'll need to buy a separated USB 3.0 to USB-C OTG cable because the adapter in the box is too thick for most of the cases

Oh, and by the way, the hub that I've tested on my quoted post from before wasn't a DisplayLink hub after all. Hence, it didn't work.

Awesome news, awesome :good:
BTW does it charge your phone while your phone is plugged in?
Also this is probably a bit of a specific question to pose; but by any chance have you checked whether the phone outputs just 2-channels of sound (stereo) through the displaylink adapter, or does it output however many are in the source material (e.g. 5.1 channels if you play a video file with a 5.1. surround sound audio track).

No option to charge the phone while casting I'm afraid.
Moreover, I can't tell about the sound cause I don't have any TV and AVR that supports 5.1 channels sound though an hdmi port.

Audio out via the USB in car?

Hi
I've received my P20 Pro this week and am loving the phone so far. However, one big issue remains that i can't seem to get my head around - how to play audio from the phone through my non-Bluetooth car stereo?
I previously had an iPhone 6 where this was easy; plug the phone in to the stereo via USB and it would simultaneously charge and play music from the phone through the car stereo.
But when I plug in the P20 Pro via the same USB port, I can't seem to get audio coming out. I know it's possible - as obviously headphones plug in to the same USB-c port - so is there something I have to turn on or toggle to get it to send audio out?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Check you don't have this option enabled in developer options?

Thanks - I looked and it's not checked. In fact, the headphones work when you plug them in, so it is allowing audio out with certain connections.
It's just when I use the charging lead to connect the phone to the car stereo (USB) - nothing happens. It doesn't even charge, and says "check USB" on the front of the stereo. if I play music when it's connected, it just comes out the phone - which obviously it wouldn't do if it was connected to the stereo.
Do I need a specific audio lead, rather than just the basic charging one that comes with it?
Coming from an iPhone background, it's just the same lead... so I'm struggling to see why this won't work either.
My case was huawei p20 pro generate so much noise and jitter during playing through USB audio connect to Helix dsp, it solved by changing USB speed mode from full speed mode to high speed mode on the Helix dsp USB setting. As my iPhone was working fine on both mode. In case if you can try to change setting on your car stereo system. Try to consult with your car stereo manufacturer.
Hi Slangking, did you already find a solution to use P20 (pro) audio over USB in your car? I'm having the same issue as you, went from the iPhone 6 to p20. Just a cheap USB stick works, and I could even remote spotify on my iPhone with my steer trough USB. Changing the USB output in the developer settings to audio source didn't work

I did some research and mounting your memory card as a USB Mass Storage will work like explained over here, but I still can't find out how this will work for the internal storage...
UPDATE
I found something called WIRELINQ: Smart Android USB Converter Cable for Car Stereo. Started as a kickstarter project, but are now able to buy. Will try that one out.
I got one of these and found I can't get anything to play through the stereo, the audio plays on the phone speakers but the track info displays on the stereo screen and the steering wheel controls also work, I can disable USB audio streaming via the dashlinq app which makes radio player within dashlinq work properly.. but nothing else works.. have you had any luck?
Thanks for your reply. You are a step ahead of me. I have the Wirelinq cable but couldn't get it to work, not even the track info on my cars stereo display. It recognise the Wirelinq cable, but not my phone. I am in contact with GROM and even tried to install a new firmware update (which I was able to install myself by connecting the cable to my computer), so there last message was:
This is issue of the phone USB Audio output in software not working correctly as standardized by Android's AOSP. You will have to contact Huawei to get support and resolve it on phone's software end.

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I'm a new P20 Pro owner (also having switched from iphone 6) and wanting to crack this issue. Thanks.
Not sure if there is a solution. iPhones behave differently when connected to stereos, just like an usb stick. Android devices don't, unfortunately. I am using an AUX cable with the usb-c adapter in my husbands car, or bluetooth streaming in my car.
Bleutooth receiver to AUX

No, it didn't work. Maybe it will if GROM will come out with an update. I've returned my cable and have bought a bluetooth to AUX receiver adapter on eBay for just a few dollar. This actually works very well, you plug the bluetooth adapter in your USB and the cable in your AUX and you can listening wireliss music on each app through bluetooth. The downside is that you won't be able to see your track details, no remote from your steer and the quality is different. But you can still charge you phone with a normal USB cable while listening. It's not a solution, but I got used to it now.
Not a bad idea with the bluetooth to aux!

iphones actually don't behave like a usb stick when connected to a stereo. the music is still played on the iphone, but the sound is streamed to the stereo. controls on the stereo actually control the playback on the iphone itself.
with android, to play audio over usb, you need to use mass storage mode, which will behave just like a usb stick.
ios can output digital audio over it's usb cable, which the stereo can receive.
android can output audio through usb-c, but i don't think that it can be used to output audio over the usb cable like iphones can. it might be some protocol that iphones use and android phones don't, but technically it should be possible.
Just stumbled upon this thread as I am in the same situation. Basically, I have a P20 Pro and a Huawei Mediapad M5 Lite that are behaving exactly the same..i.e they cannot play audio from USB to car stereo's USB ports. The internal media can be browsed and played via car stereos interface but you cannot stream music via USB from phone (say Spotify) to car stereo.
USB audio streaming works if I enabled ANDROID AUTO at the car stereo and installed ANDROID AUTO in the phone/tablet. You might ask why not just settle for this setup?
I can, butI I hate so much the AA's "Swipe to Unlock" lock and the changes in the UI when AA is active.
What I want is the plain/original phone interface (without AA) and all audio routed via USB.
Bluetooth, I know is an option, but again, it would be nice if this (USB) can be solved. It seems possible, I think. If AA can switch USB audio streaming on, can other apps or workaround/reverse engineering not?
BTW, i tried playing with the Developer Options, USB Configuration as "MTP or Audio Source" --- no luck here
Just bought a Kenwood DDX6906S receiver for my 2013 GMC Sierra I cannot get anything to work via USB. USB debugging enabled. I feel like I've been going in circles. any help would be super appreciated, TIA
