HELP SECTION
Are you trying to flash this rom but you are stuck?
Here are the answers that most ask for in order to flash a ROM.
ODIN FAILED TO WRITE ERROR
Did you get this Failed To Write Message in Odin?
----------------------------
Odin Error Message:
<ID:0/003> FAIL! Model dismatch fail
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
---See-Figure-Below---
SOLUTIONS
Did you:
○ Open Odin as Administrator?
○ Try the Prince Comsy version?
○ Enable Developer Settings?
-Open Settings > About Phone > Tap Build Number 7 Times
○ Enable OEM Unlock?
-Go Back to Settings > Tap Developer Options > Tap OEM Unlock
○ Enable USB Debugging?
-Tap Developer Options > Tap USB Debugging
NOTHING WORKS
Did you try every single thing but nothing works?
Well, did you right click "Odin" each time you go to open it and then click "open as administrator"?
Sometimes you have to try several different versions of Odin.
But I have found that Odin3 v3.12.7 was the one that would work when the others had not.
I always would forget to also open Odin as Administrator.
It's a pain in the neck to have to remember to open as admin every time.
But you usually have to do it.
Did you check that ADB had started? Maybe that might be the reason it won't work?
But I doubt it! But you just never know and I am just trying to help you get it flashed.
It's a very quick flash and you can see that the PDA load was very quick as well.
But as far as the errors, you just have to keep trying...
Which I mean, you sometimes have to open, close, reopen Odin when it doesn't work.
Sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't.
It's all about the right Odin version at the time
making sure the cord is good
Opening Odin as Admin
And keep trying again after restarting your phone by holding the download mode button sequence again.
Sometimes a fresh start will work, sometimes a restart of the PC will help
Basically, you just have to keep trying. I am on G935A too. I had the same issues, but I never gave up!
Keep trying, you'll get it!
Thanks for trying the rom guys! You are all awesome and helping me make the initial OP better with every question you ask, so thanks!
SCREENSHOTS
Several apps you see in these screenshots are not installed with this ROM
I am Just showing that Carrier Bloatware is minimal
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS BUILD, I ONLY FOUND THE FILES, EDITED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LATEST UNLOCKED VERSION WITH THE SMALLEST FILESIZE, THEN SHARED AND DOCUMENTED IT HERE IN THE S7 FORUMS AFTER TESTING ROM.
A THANKS IS APPRECIATED.
PS, USING THIS FIRMWARE WILL NOT MAGICALLY "UNLOCK YOUR PHONE" YOUR PHONE WILL STILL STAY LOCKED TO YOUR PHONE'S CARRIER AFTER FLASHING THIS FIRMWARE. THIS IS ONLY THE FACTORY UNLOCKED VERSION OF THIS ROM.

Yes you can and it's reported that you can receive OTA with this firmware.

Overall, the only root method is still the engboot method?
I'm running tmo firmware on mine, but have been toying with the idea of flashing U.

Hey, post a link showing this same build on the S7 Edge forums instead of making wild claims without showing proof? You could have sent me a private message by the way, you don't have to start drama. Just saying.

Yes, this is a different build.

Status update!
If you see another thread with this rom within this section of the forum, please show me. LOL. I wouldn't post without doing my homework, I didn't find this rom anywhere on XDA before posting. I'm doing you guys a favor and I don't have to do this, either appreciate it and try the ROM or move onto a different forum for a ROM you actually want to use. I like this rom, did hours of research finding it, and put it on my phone. I didn't have to share it guys, I chose to. As I mentioned before, a thanks is appreciated. I appreciate users concern over people double posting threads to take credit yadda yadda yadda, and the thrill of being a forum nazi, but please respect the thread owner, especially if you like people sharing rare ROMs here that they found.
Thanks for participating in the thread, and thanks for trying the rom, even though it doesn't bother me if you use it or not, I'm only sharing it and answering questions for those who actually WANT to try new roms to find the one they like. Thanks again for participating and trying the ROM, I like it, it has its perks and whatnot, and it's also not perfect, but it works. Hope you like using it, I do! #NoDrama :highfive:

t12icky0 said:

WYM? I do not own one. Maybe I read the download wrong, because I know remembered there was an Edge + line? But either way the filesize is different so this is definitely a different build, maybe due to less bloatware, maybe different lines of coding, but it's smaller in size, which is why I wanted it when I found it, because I couldn't find this same exact file anywhere else and I wanted less preinstalled on my phone.

There is no+ with the s7. It is eaither an S7 or S7 edge. The plus came about when it was the S6 and S6+ which is basically S6 edge.

I'd appreciate it if you removed your posts now.

You have nothing to prove... Checksum all you want. The total zip filesize for each file you're obsessing over is different. No matter what you say, no matter how many ways you try to prove it, this is a different build. You cannot have two of the exact same builds and them both come out different filesizes, compression or not, you're not about to compress a file that much. Are you really going to keep being this silly and posting ridiculous harassing posts? Dude, this is why you have been added to the ignore list hours and hours ago. :good:

Ok, if it wasn't for your post I would have never seen the files for the ATT Version of the S7 Edge (G935A). I know it is usable on all the different versions, but I hardly ever check other forums.
That being said, has anyone used the ENG.IMG version of rooting this ROM? I am on the Rooted G935A and am wanting to use these files to update my phone and then root this version. Has anyone done it? I know how to root with the ENG.IMG but I just want to make sure I can do it with this one and to make sure there aren't any problems.
Thanks in advance.

I got stuck in a bootloop trying to root yesterday, let me finish testing and I'll update the OP when I figure out how to do it without tripping the system up. Thanks!

I had to use PrinceComsy's Odin to flash this version. Any other version of Odin failed.

I get asked if this toolkit works for Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and other variants such as the Dual-Sim and GPe + Dev Editions. Here I can clarify if anything will not work or possibly break your device.
Q. Will I need to be unlocked (rooted) to use firewater?
A. Yes. Firewater requires root access.

Root while keeping stock recovery!
So in reguards to your question you want to root the HTC One M8 but still be able to get OTA updates from HTC? I'll show you a way of doing it because I like to keep it stock too. Unfortuantely some of the commands we need to use are not in the toolkit so some of the steps will use the command prompt.
If you just want to have a rooted device you don't need to S-Off but you will have to unlock the bootloader.
I'll walk you through the steps into unlocking the bootloader. (This may wipe your data)
Make sure you have ADB Debugging Enabled and your M8 is turned on (its best to not have any security lock screen)
Open the toolkit
Click on the unlock button
Go through all the steps listed on the unlock window
Once you have the bootloader unlocked download this recovery:
Philz CWM Advanced Edition Recovery
Then go back into the bootloader (you can use the 'ADB' section of the toolkit) and make sure its in FASTBOOT USB mode.
Once you are in the bootloader you'll need to open up a cmd window.
Here is a tutorial:
Once that's open you'll need to type:
Code:
fastboot boot
(leave a space after 'boot') then drag the recovery image we downloaded earlier onto the cmd window.
This will load the image to your device and all you have to to now is wait for your phone to boot the image. Once you are in the 'recovery' you should see a orange purple background. Goto:
=> Philz Options (something like that. Its near the bottom of the list)
=> Root device (SuperSU) {its near the top of the list)
This will root your device or at least put the SU Binaries on your phone. All you have to do is reboot your phone. (Keep going back untill you see 'reboot device now'.)
When your phone is booted up just goto the Play Store and download SuperSU by Chainfire. Open it up and you should have root! This will keep the stock recovery so you can install firmware updates later on from HTC.
I hope this helped!

This has HTC DEV and IIRC the files to install superuser through adb?
HTC DEV unlock does not work with Verizon, we get an MID error MID (Model ID) which means Verizon made HTC block our versions of the M8 on their site. (Much like they did for the M7, except those of us luckily who bought on release day were able to sneak in the 24 hours before it was shut down and blocked through MID like is now, and the m8 is (for Verizon))
as for the superuser, that is something that I think could be tried, don't hold me if anything happens to your phone, go at your own risk. I've never used a toolkit so I am not sure, wait for the OP to comment first, perhaps. We have adb working as I was able to extract the Verizon /System using adb pull /system - command.
Root would be very nice even if it's just superuser, I would de-bloat haha.
Sonic is checking to see if his java card will have the correct diag files to give S-OFF, he did a great job doing S-OFF for the M7 community before a software method came.
Start the bounty threads for bootloader unlock / s-off method!!!!

At least on my M8, the backup never started (after being permitted on the device). Also, "news" gets me a blank screen and scripting error.
A promising start, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I wanna jump on this Verizon by-one-get-one promotion but I'm hesitant b/c there is no root yet.
Should I worry about that at all?
I know there aren't any ETA's for root, but does anyone have an educated guess?
Thanks. (I need to tether for work.)

Well, there is kind of you just need to unlock and put a custom recovery on, then install superuser.zip from recovery.
However, some don't allow unlock and I am sure all that will take is patience.

My option for recovery is greyed out. Interestingly, I've been trying to flash TWRP manually and with some help from mike1986 for a couple hours now with no luck. It keeps hanging at the sending recovery command. Could be related to why my recovery option is greyed out in your toolkit? Thanks for all the work you've done so far!

If you're doing the buy-one-get-one, you know that you are forced into a tiered data plan right? And on those, tethering is not blocked, you can just use the built-in VZW hotspot.
If you buy it outright to keep unlimited data (what I did this morning), then I haven't found working wifi tether yet. FoxFi/PdaNet allows for USB tethering however, which worked like a charm.

Its disabled because recoveries for all the different models of the M8 haven't been developed yet. You can still flash via the fastboot menu.

[ROM] G900TUVU1BNH5 ported from TMobile, rooted, deodexed, no knox, Download Booster

** DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I DO THIS AS A HOBBY AND SHARE MY FINDINGS IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE FINDS THEM USEFUL. **
** THIS WORKED ON MY DEVICE BUT IT MAY NOT WORK ON YOURS. APPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK **
This is the latest KitKat 4.4.2 Rom from T-mobile. I ported it to ATT and tried to apply just enough modification to keep all the functionality and remove all the limitations. Nothing has been removed from the rom. The disabled apps are kept to a very minimum so this is NOT a de-bloated ROM. This is as close to stock as it gets. If you need a debloated version go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/development/rom-debloated-bnh5-ported-tmobile-t2901620
1- Pre-rooted and deodexed.
2- Knox, security apps, and updater disabled (your phone will no longer update itself without your knowledge)
3- Call recording enabled.
4- SDcard write restrictions removed.
5- Tethering restrictions removed.
6- Download Bosoter functional on AT&T network.
7- Lookout security and T-mobile apps that don't work on ATT are disabled.
If a certain features like WiFi calling doesn't work it's because AT&T doesn't support the feature.
Requirements:
1- Safestrap or custom recovery.
2- To begin with, you should be on ATT NCE4 rom or a variant of that. It has been reported that this is incompatible with NG3
Download link:
Download the latest version since I post an update immediately after discovering a bug.
Mega https://mega.co.nz/#!gpUAxBqI!ukloBoz5KRzixo8a2cEXxsmJ_K0z-8LAYDfKerkWG4U (version 5)
Instructions:
This is a flashable zip. Boot to recovery to flash it. I strongly recommend a clean wipe before flashing a new Rom.
After reboot, go through the initial setup and then leave the phone alone for 10 minutes before you use it. After the first reboot the data connection takes a while to be recognized. If it does not connect after 10 min, enable and disable airplane mode and it should be fine after that.
Credits:
JustArchi for creating ArchiKitchen
Screenshots
Download booster, home screen, call recording.
Change log:
V1: Disabled knox and updaters and security apps except for Lookout.
V2: Same as V1 with Lookout and T-mobile apps disabled.
V3: Essentially the same as V2. A small type was corrected.
V4: Disabled IQ lib and corrected a potentially fatal typo in the update script.
V5: Disabled two more annoying Samsung auto-update apps that somehow slipped through.
Amazing thanks

This is closer to pure stock, which may offer benefits in stability. As an example, when I flash this on my system the status remains official (no padlock on boot up).
Tried it. Still full of TMobile bloat and couldn't even do anything with it because "Context Service has stopped". Couldn't type anything anywhere like web browser, couldn't edit the notification toggles, anything. Generally has WAY too many TMobile remnants left in it. Once that's all fixed it might be stable. Not entirely sure this was even tested out.
Also, idk what "Security Apps" were removed but Lookout is most annoyingly still there.
Before it's asked yes, It was a CLEAN freshly wiped install.

I flashed this using safestrap on a phone that had G900AUCU1ANCE installed. Since safestrap does not allow boot.img to be written, the result was that after the flash AP and CSC changed to BNH5 but the kernel remained at ANCE1. With this configuration I didn't see any problems. Also, this rom doesn't come with a modem, so it relies that the phone comes with unaltered ATT modem, in my case ANCE1. So, do you have a different kernel or modem?
BTW, disabled security apps are Carrier IQ, and security manager service/provider.
PS: I agree with you on Lookout being a nuisance. I will disable it and re-upload.

I see. Perhaps T-mobile NH5 rom is not compatible with ATT NG3 boot.img or modem. I will put a note in the OP. Thanks for checking this out.
OP, can you do something similar with a stock G900F firmware that will be able to be flashed on a G900A?
I have a smg900az - on tmobile
I have a smg900az on Tmo- I want this rom for this purpose. Does this include tmobile AND att modems, or just att? I am downgrading from lollipop..
Because I am sure there are others with ATT based phones who may be on TMO- would you mind if I kang your rom, debloat it, or include a debloat option, add features, etc? All credit would be given to your base.. and it would be a minute before I can get it done anyways..
P.S. PLEASE PLEASE post the md5 checksum for each version! Many of us dont want to spend the time wiping, flashing, finding out it is corrupt, then having to restore, etc!
Attached is the md5 file for version 5 that es-file explore pushed out
md5: a40d7d1ee9903bbec056cd29d52c0277 <--- flashed without a hitch
also- downgraded from a lollipop rom(Liquidsmooth 5.0 revision 2 from the unified dev section) without anything special.. so now sure what is meant by-"To begin with, you should be on ATT NCE4 rom or a variant of that. It has been reported that this is incompatible with NG3" - but perhaps you should link to anything that explains why you believe this..
I am inviting you to a document here where I hope to get developers/contributors for all galaxy variants sharing their knowledge openly- http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...mplified-to-connect-developers-share-t2997834

1- This doesn't have any modem in it. Please only use version 5. The older ones are buggy.
2- You can use this ROM for your purpose. Thanks for giving credits.

Maybe you can clarify- the big modem thread on the tmo S5 section said not to flash their modems on another device.
My phone is back on tmo, so I imagine that running a tmo modem could increase reception..
And if you're willing to add flashable scripts that debloat and some others that make some good changes to the build prop- you have a good base, I wouldn't change it.. then people can just add/remove specific features in your own thread.
Join that Google doc in the last post, and create a section about what you've learned porting over the tmo rom.. more devs need to take it seriously.

Yes. Samsung account apps are disabled. You can go to /system/app or /system/priv-app, find the app that you want to enable, and renaming it from wuteverthenameiz.apk.bac to wuteverthenameiz.apk and reboot.
Since I'm on ANG3 rooted, no recovery, I'm happy with my current setup, I just need the stock T-Mobile apps. Can you help?

[Q] ATT Update to 5.0.1 fails, confirming a solution

It has been over a year since I last flashed a S4A phone, so refreshing my notes and hoping someone can confirm the bits below are correct.
In case another, shorter way to accomplish same exists, kindly suggest it.
Background first.
Phone is SG4 Active, running Android 4.4.2. Baseband I537UCUCNH3, model is Samsung SGH I537, Build KOT49H.I537UCUCNH3
Phone is unlocked and was flashed with Odin one year ago to 4.3 and then ATT updated automatically to current version.
Status today.
When ATT offers download and install the 900 plus MB 5.0.1 update, it fails at 27 percent, reboots phone, repeatedly.
Phone has about 8 GB free space on internal memory and about 10 GB on SD card. As far as I can determine, no special mods have been done to phone and I have uninstalled all user installed apps so it has only ATT, Samsung and Google apps.
Proposed solution.
Found the original I537UCUBML2 bundle *2gb* (Android 4.3) with BL,AP,CSC,CP and I think that since Bootloader already installed, it should be possible to run Odin again and just flash AP,CSC and CP.
Once flashed the system will be back to 4.3 and the OTA updates should work, first to 4.4 and later to 5.0.1.
Can not recall right now just how to do the Odin flash but will use search to figure it out but is my thinking correct or am I missing something important ? For example, don't remember if I have to reboot phone first or if Odin handles it all once the USB cable is connected.
Thank you.

ML2 won't help you. If you give me about 5-10 minutes I'll link you to the file you need (I'm slow because I'm on mobile and it's a tiny screen for my fat fingers lol)
---------- Post added at 02:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:37 PM ----------
OK here is the file you need. Download and save it to your EXTERNAL SD card (internal storage won't work) and flash the file in stock recovery. You can boot to recovery by shutting the phone off, then holding down power and vol+simultaneously
If you want to be rooted, don't do this, I can point you to a different method
Ok, downloading. Now, in case this "manual method" also fails at 27 percent and just reboots with Install failed, what then ? That was the original reason I proposed to use Odin re-flash the SG4A back to some semblance of original state. Thank you.

Use Odin to restore NE3 kit kat instead of ML2. I can link to that too if you need
NE3 kit kat
You have to extract all 4 tar files and flash all 4 with Odin simultaneously

The reason your install is failing is because you've modified the stock firmware. When you try to install an AT&T update, manually or automatically there is a script in that update that checks all the files on your phone to ensure that they are the original, unmodified files. If any single one of them is not original or modified, then the update will fail as you have experienced. So if you root your phone you are modifying system files. Even if you unroot, the system files were still modified at one point and the update will fail. I suspect you've done something like this.
The only way you can update to stock OC6 (5.0.1) is to flash your phone back to stock firmware and in your case it should be NE3. As has been explained you will need to flash the NE3 Odin package, but beware this will completely wipe your phone so backup anything you don't want to lose. There is a method for updating your phone without flashing back to stock described in this thread. Also, if you're ever looking for information on rooting and updating your phone it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the links in the i537 Firmware Guide.
Use Odin to restore NE3 kit kat instead of ML2.

Got it. Downloading (as suspected, the update.zip failed) and will hook up cable and run Odin 3.09 with all 4 files
All important data is backed up to Google so unless I lose some ATT settings, such as the IMEI code or similar, all should be well
Does the phone have to be in recovery mode before starting Odin ? Can't remember now and all Youtube videos show only AP being applied, not all 4 files simultaneously.
Edit, read http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/
Thank you

How to get the Beta "Update" on your Note 9 U1.

So I bought my note 9 three weeks ago, it was ATT carrier branded, since I don't need/like any carrier bloat, I just flashed the unlocked firmware to it, until today its working with no problems at all.
So today I learned that the One UI beta came out, I log on my Samsung+ app I got the banner and hit register but nothing... it will simply send me back to the start, probably because i'm offshore who knows. well I started looking around tried with a VPN, tried spoofing my location, clear cache, clear data ( did this multiple times ) but it will simply not let me join the beta.
So I keep on looking and I find this website https://firmware.science/ it will allow you to download the OTA file and flash it using recovery mode!
Sure I wont get the otas automatically on my phone, but I can simply download then again and flash then as they come out.
I hope this helps anyone like that just wanted to install the latest software!
Note!:
This doesn't mean that your are part of the beta, but means that you will have the beta software on your phone!

Does doing that wipe my device? Or do I get to keep my stuff?
I wanted to add this for anyone who kept tapping the register button but was simply returned to the banner like nothing happened.
If this is happening and you dont get a toast msg saying "thank you for your support of the One UI Beta" and no OTA follows, try deleting the (beta) Samsung + app data, rebooting and try again.
I tried all day before doing this and got the OTA 5 mins after wiping app data.

Nope, its a regular update so no need to wipe anything

Tried everything, to be honest I was just sure that the Samsung+ app would check where you are in the world and if your not on the US it will simply not let you join the beta, the method above worked flawlessly for me!, I'm running One UI at the moment with the dark theme and its awesome!

Keep in mind that this Beta Update its just for the unlocked firmware, if you want to flash the update you need to first flash this firmware: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note9/SM-N960U1/XAA/download/N960U1UES1ARJ9/244752/

Yes, I did. No data loss.
I flashed the same zrkp from firmware. Science on my us unlocked note 9 with arj9 firmware. It did a full factory reset. I would have done so anyway as I always do with major updates.
Working flawlessly so far.
Edit: 2 exceptions found. Themes are not working and cannot connect to my gear s3. Android wear watch works as expected.
Question what happens when you go into settings an click on Software update does it do anything..Just curious..I have the ATT variant an I'm planning on flashing the Unlocked Firmware..

Ok. First of all. Green and gold till I'm dead and cold.
Second of all, if you flash the U1 firmware and sign up for the beta, then you'll get OTAs automatically through settings.
If you flash the U1 firmware and can't get into the beta program, you can download the update.zip from firmware.science. You will have the official beta build, but you won't get updates through settings, because you aren't part of the beta program.

That is normal. Just wait. It will eventually load the AP file. If you're flashing the U1 firmware, there is no Userdata file, so you don't use that slot.
Make sure you are using the modified version of ODIN 3.13.1 and run it as an administrator. There are links to it on XDA. Or if you go to the main beta thread there's links to it in the thread.
Just put the files in their respective slots. BL in BL, AP in AP, etc...
CSC_OYN performs a factory reset. HOME_CSC does not wipe the phone. I always use CSC_OYN when switching from carrier firmware to U1 firmware or vice versa, but it's up to you.
After everything is all loaded up in ODIN, put your phone in download mode. Power off. Then hold power, Bixby, and volume down button all at the same time until it boots to a blue-green screen. Then press volume up to continue.
Plug your phone into your computer and hit start. Then sit back and wait. This will take a while.
That's all the steps. If you have any issues, I encourage you to use the search bar on the forum. These steps and solutions to any issues you may run into have been posted many times in several threads. LineageOS 18.1 (Android 11) for US LG G8 (G820*)
LineageOS (also known as “Lineage”) is a free and open-source operating system based on Android. It is the successor to the custom ROM CyanogenMod.
Code:
#include "std_disclaimer.h"
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
This is an unofficial build of Lineageos 18.1 (Android 11) for the US LG G8.
THIS IS NOT A GSI
This works on all carriers!
This will only work for the US LG G8.
This will only work for alphalm, not alphaplus.
This will not work on the 'G8s' or the 'G8x'.
This will not work on Korean models.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Partition Backup:
Please backup all important partitions and data before installing this ROM. THis is very important for certain carriers including AT&T, as they do not provide the KDZ firmware files, so once you install lineage, you may not easily be able to go back if you haven't made a backup, though it's a good idea for anyone attempting to install any ROM on any device.
Important partitions are:
boot
product
vendor
dtbo
vbmeta
system
Make a backup of these in QFIL (both _a and _b slots of each, You will need to use QFIL during the following bootloader unlock guide so you can make this backup during that process.
Bootloader Must Be Unlocked
There's a guide for this linked below. This step is a must.
This must be installed from TWRP or other custom recovery on stock.
Please make sure latest stock firmware is installed. This may not be completely
necessary, but having an old firmware image installed has caused me
issues with call audio and such while developing this ROM.
What Works
Bluetooth
Wifi
Call/SMS (WARNING: Carriers in the US and perhaps other countries are disabling 3G, so no more calls and possibly even texts if this happens with your carrier!)
Data 2G/3G/LTE
Camera (GCam is required for wide angle back camera)
Audio
NFC
GPay Contactless Payments (Requires Magisk Hide)
Hotspot
Google Assistant Voice Match
Nearly Everything!
What Doesn't Work
VoLTE/VoWiFi/IMS - LG has a complicated proprietary IMS, so no VoLTE at all!
Assistant Voice Match while screen is off
AOD (I'm working on this)
Please let me know in the comments
Requirements
US LG G8 on any carrier
Latest firmware installed on device (may work with older firmware but results will vary)
Latest unofficial LineageOS zip (on github, linked in thread) and TWRP zip (attached to thread)
SD Card or adb for sideloading (see step 5)
PC with Windows (Linux is possible if you know what you're doing. Check out bkerler/edl on github, it works the same way as QFIL, but requires a small amount of Linux knowledge/experience.)
How to install
Unlock Bootloader and root with Magisk (Follow guide linked below)
Make a backup of all your data (I strongly recommend making a backup of your partitions with qfil (or EDL for linux users))
Download TWRP and the Lineage zip
Installl TWRP (Follow quick guide in attached archive)
Place Lineage zip and anything you want to install through recovery on external SD card (Can also be sideloaded with 'adb sideload', If so, skip this step)
Boot into TWRP or other custom recovery with volume and power shortcut
Install Lineage zip from sdcard or sideload (I always recommend sd, there's less to go wrong)
Once it completes, reboot into recovery again. There's an option for this in TWRP to skip the button combo. TWRP IS GONE. YOU WILL BOOT INTO LINEAGE RECOVERY. USE THIS FOR REMAINING STEPS.
Format Data (This is completely necessary. You will be returned to recovery on boot if you do not follow this step.)
Install Gapps, Magisk, and anything else from sd or with adb sideload. (If you don't want/need root, you can skip installing Magisk
Format Data Again (System will send you back to recovery to do it if you don't)
Reboot to system and enjoy!
A big thanks to SGCMarkus for everything he has done for LG devices on this platform. This wouldn't be possible without his work. Go buy him a coffee or something!
Big thanks to those I haven't named from the V50 G8 G8s Telegram group as well

Others will work, but some not as well. I've noticed some issues with this version crashing. If you experience this, try other versions from the link above.
GApps
Only install GApps packages for Android 11!
NikGApps
Highly recommended. (Because I use it and I know it works, it doesn't necessarily mean it's best though.) Follow download buttons. Go to Releases > NikGapps-R. Packages will be here. Info about what each package contains is on the page linked above.
MindTheGApps
I've tried this once and It seemed alright, but it was a little minimal for my taste. It's linked by LineageOS so it's here.
OpenGapps
I haven't tried this at all, but it's also linked by LineageOS so it should be here.

Attached is a copy of the archive containing TWRP for the G8. I downloaded this from telegram and take no credits, there just isn't a thread about this here that I've seen. The instructions to install are included in the archive.
Please let me know of any bugs in the comments!
Thanks!
Downgrading and Crossflashing
This ROM requires your device to be on stock Android 10. Downgrading may be necessary, with some devices requiring a crossflash for the process!
Crossflashing
Crossflashing is only for those who own a G8 from a carrier that doesn't provide a KDZ (firmware image). There is no practical purpose to crossflash unless you really don't want the carrier bloatware, but there are easier ways to remove this.
There is a guide for crossflashing Here.
I haven't tried to crossflash personally but I've seen much success. The G8/G8X/v50 Telegram group (specifically the notes there) can definitely be a lot of help to anyone with an AT&T or Sprint G8 that wishes to go this route.
Downgrading
First, you have to download the appropriate firmware. You can select your preferred firmware here:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg820qm-firmwares/
but this one is for the openus model and should work for sprint and at&t models:
https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/25195/G820QM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0402
Second, you have to use LGUP with some slight modifications to flash the firmware to your device.
NOTE: This works without an unlocked bootloader and will relock the bootloader on your device. If you've unlocked your bootloader previously, you'll have to repeat the process.
Here is a brief guide for downgrading taken from this post:
(DO NOT FOLLOW THIS GUIDE IF YOU NEED TO CROSSFLASH)
Quote from TheLoonyRebel:
...
And here's the software you will need to get the job done:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682884898
1. Install the LG drivers if you haven't already.
http://tool.lime.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425
2. Install LG Up
3. Install the LG Common DLL
4. Copy the UI confilg files to C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\Common
5. Turn off the G8.
6. Once off hold up volume up then insert your USB into the phone.
7. Open LG Up. If you get an error message ignore.
8. Select REFURBISH in LG Up
9. Load the KDZ file by drag and drop where it says BIN file
10. Click start
11. Once the downgrade is done installing the phone will reboot...
...
Click to collapse
Do not follow the bootloader unlock method in that thread as it will fail miserably and soft brick your phone, only follow the downgrade method quoted above.
If there are any questions, please ask in the comments.
Edit: I've attached the necessary files in case that androidfilehost link becomes dead in the future.
Thank you for your efforts!

I don't think this rom would work on your device, but I could be wrong. Either way, I do not recommend trying it. Also, I've never used a GSI but I've heard they're buggy in general.
After two days of use, I found that the functions of always on display are abnormal, and the side Google buttons cannot be customized

There's a feature in Lineage called Ambient Display, alongside AOD. It's hard to find in settings, but if you go to your quick settings tiles and tap the edit button, there will be a tile for Ambient Display to add. Disabling this made the display behave more normally for me.
If this does not fix your problem, please elaborate
As for the side Google buttons, I'm not sure what you're referring to, please be more specific.
Thank you for your efforts!
I was about to get rid of my Sprint G8 for not receiving any software updates for half a year haha
Edit: Just installed and its working flawlessly on Sprint G8
Thank you!
I tested MindTheGapps, contacts and calendar couldn't sync, because google play service had no rights.
Just set the rights, it's perfect.

Thank you for your reply. I tried to turn off ambient display and turn on AOD. After locking the screen, AOD information will be displayed for a second or two, then flash once and disappear

It seems this is a bug. I will look into it and add it to the list. Thanks.
First of all Thank you for your great work you saved the life of my Lg G8, so I will tell my experience after 3 days of use, deactivate everything that would have to do with the AOD because it is not working correctly even though in my case It is not essential, the ROM is really smooth and everything else works correctly, I am using it with Open GApps and it has not given me problems, the truth is the ROM is on the right track, but I only had a problem and it is time to playing the device hangs it stays bibrando until it forces the closing of the app, it does not always do it but when it happens annoying, I also feel that it does not go so fluid in the games compared to the stock, but it is nothing serious perhaps with a better kernel you can get more out of the ROM but for the moment it is a great advance for the LG G8 and again Thanks for your work!.
Thank you for taking the time for making this ROM OP! Will install later today and report back.
I disabled time sync, reboot. System time back to compile time.

Been using this rom for two days and it is amazing. Fast and barely any issues apart from what is mentioned above. My only personal gripe is the slight drop in gaming performance than stock.
hi. can i do this with lg lmg820um Android 9 pie version. I will be glad if you answer
Alrighty, So I've been using the ROM for 2 days and I have a minor grievance with the OS itself which I'm sure is out of your control, Wallpaper zoom is incredibly annoying and the most common work around is an app called KLWP which is compatible with stock rom but not this one. My current solution is an app called SB Wallpaper Changer, under portrait setting it to single and Fixed, fixes the problem. But this breaks any system function that bases colors on the wallpapers color.
That all being said TYVM OP, stock rom on my device was falling apart at the seams, and while it may have taken me 15 hours to get LOS working it's ages better than stock.
Also edit: MY Phone was a Model LM-G820TM but reported as a 850UM in LG Bridge, don't even wanna know why. Android Reports LM-G820 after unlock and LOS

I don't think this would work. Your device's firmware should be updated to android 10. The ROM does not install this, it is retained from original stock ROM. This would probably result in a brick.
Ok so I'm about a week in, the fingerprint scanner is just, gone. It's not that it isn't reading, it's just not an option. The fingerprint scanner is completely gone from the system settings, any attempt to communicate with it fail immediately. it just, disapeared from the software. Restarting or factory reseting didn't do anything, it's still gone.
Edit: Gonna try and go through recover to update then reflash if needed, pain
Edit 2: reflashed, still gone

How strange I have been for 2 weeks and I still have not had that problem in relation to fingerprints, will the sensor of your device have been damaged?
