Viper4Android drivers vs compatible mode - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I am on the latest MM release & kernel to hide unlocked boot loader, rooted with Magisk SU and hidden to use Android pay. I currently run Magisk module for V4A. I have been trying to get V4A to work with installed driver, but after trying several methods suggested in V4A and Magisk forums, it will only work in compatible mode with standard Google play music app. It will not work at all with Pandora or Amazon music player apps. I am not sure what compatible mode means other than it hides the driver information, so I assume it is functioning without driver (?) somehow, with lower quality results? Ultimately would like to get it to work with Pandora, my go to music source, with or without Magisk module interface. I am not sure what the Magisk module is doing if anything as the V4A works the same with the module uninstalled. Thanks if anyone has experience to share.

You have to get V4A magisk, audio modification library and universal deep buff remover (this one you might have to get from the xda thread, the one in the magisk repo seems to be broken) to get viper4android to process in all apps in normal mode.

Thank you for responding, I did try both of these fixes by ahrion, plus he later put out his own magisk v4a module with the fixes incorporated in it, unfortunately no changes, I am wondering if it is something specific to the DT as I have never read of anyone running v4a in normal mode on a turbo.

I've been running that setup I described for a month now and it's survived rom updates as well, never had any trouble with it. Did you get the universal deep buff remover from the xda thread or within magisk manager?

I wasn't sure of source so just loaded deep buff remove from xda thread. Also running the audio mod v 1.4. After reboot neither Google play music or Pandora worked in compatible mode, rebooted to normal mode and no processing from either source. I removed deep buffer mod via his deep buffer restore mod, now Google play music back to running in compatible mode only. Thanks for trying to help me not sure what's different from your setup

New oxygenOS or xposed?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to know how many of you ditched the Xposed on marshmallow for the latest 7.1.1 Android based oxygenos?
Since we don't know when nougat will be supported by xposed, is staying on marshmallow worth it?
Even though most of the modules I use are more or less esthetical, there's one thing I can't live without - youtube background playback and ad block.
Share your thoughts!
Xposed over any OS without Xposed. I have never even flashed Nouget because I know its just a waste of time for me. Ive been on cm13 since the day it came out. DEC 11 2016.
If all you need is the youtube modules, there's modded youtube apps out now with adblock and background playback. Check it out here.
I've also packaged the app in a convenient Magisk module, which you can find here.
It works exactly like the xposed-modified YouTube app, but it works on Nougat.

Hey Anova, what is this Magisk thingy you're talking about?
Also... For me The most important is gravitybox then come youtube modules and mock mock locations.
You think it's worth the upgrade? I personally never had a phone that would get updates so quickly or even at all. So I have no idea what to expect.. Would I have to reroot, reinstall recovery or it's all a piece of cake and only the exposed won't affect anything? Lemme know.

Magisk is a framework that allows you to make temporary changes to your /system partition at boot, without actually modifying the partition. It works by superimposing user-defined changes to files in /system during boot; changes are reverted to their stock state afterwards. These user-defined changes are loaded into Magisk through Magisk modules. While a lot of people may think it's similar to Xposed, they're really nothing alike. I mentioned Magisk for the YouTube app because it is merely convenient. You could manually replace the YouTube APK in system without any additional software, but Magisk will do it for you while applying all the correct permissions, etc. As a bonus, Magisk also includes its own rooting method that works, for the most part, as well as SuperSU. This means that you can flash only Magisk to root your phone (flashing SuperSU is optional and is really based on personal preference, Magisk will work with SuperSU if you flash that first).
Because of what Magisk is and how it works, it is not able to modify your device in the same way that Xposed can. This means that mods like gravitybox and mock mock locations cannot be implemented with Magisk. Technically, all Magisk modules can be installed without Magisk by manually editing/replacing things in the /system partition. What is special about it is that Magisk does these things systemlessly, meaning that (with the proper configurations), you can modify /system without triggering safetynet.
For the modified YouTube app I was talking about, that was actually modded and compiled as a stand-alone APK by someone on XDA. It does not alter your current YouTube app, but rather outright replaces it.
As for upgrading to Nougat, it's really up to personal choice. I personally never used Xposed for anything other than YouTube Adaway and Background Playback, and to top it off I rarely use YouTube on my phone anyways so upgrading was an easy choice for me. If you do end up wanting to upgrade, do the following:
1) Download the full ROM of whatever version of OOS you want to use (4.1.0 is the latest, on Android 7.1.1). Do not use the "Upgrade Phone" option in settings if you are already rooted or have modified anything in your /system partition, as it will cause problems.
2) Flash the full zip in TWRP, wipe cache/Dalvik, then immediately flash the latest Magisk.zip (from the main Magisk thread on XDA)
3) Boot, then download Magisk Manager from the Play Store
At this point, Magisk will have been fully installed and your phone should be rooted. You can confirm through the Magisk Manager app

Thanks for such a detailed description of everything! You're the best! I seriously decided to upgrade tomorrow.
Just last couple questions before I do... Should I delete anything? Like xposed itself with it's modules, or does the system upgrade wipe everything itself? Should I perform any backups other than usual titanium ones?
Thanks in advance

You should delete the Xposed modules prior to updating, as they are saved as user apps and will not be wiped with an upgrade. Delete the Xposed framework app as well for the same reason. Updating should erase all of the background stuff that the Xposed originally installed in /system. Take a nandroid prior to updating just in case.

Not sure if I did anything wrong or I'm just impatient... But I flashed the update successfully and deleted dalvik. But got stuck at boot logo. Been hanging like this for 15 minutes, phone got hot and drained half its juice. So I reverted for now.... I'll try again at home with a charger... ?

Indeed I will miss gravitybox. But if there is any other way to make my buttons do what I like which is (on the left - menu button with double tap for previous app/ home is home and recents on long press / right is back.)
Other than that it's all purely visual enhancement such as perfect color bar, media visualizer, and ****.
On the other hand I've just encountered a slight difficulty... Magisk won't work properly if I had Supersu previously installed, right?

That's what I wanna find out. I wanna see what's the new Android about. And I'm sure rovo will find a solution soon. And we will see xposed for nougat.
GravityBox is terrible and has slowed down every phone it's ever been put on (from my experience).
Xposed is a hack and it's shameful how it's holding back advancement.
Nougat > any hack

Most of that is either completely unnessecary, pointless, or magisk can do it if people start developing for it. I have none of it (except no ads on youtube and the ability to turn off the screen) and i am completely fine. I think you tell yourself you need all that stuff but you actually don't, staying versions behind on the OS for it seems stupid.

Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but I've noticed the total opposite across several devices. I always try Xposed on a new phone and I always massively dislike the way it works. Intercepting code that was not supposed to be intercepted just adds overhead. There's a good reason AOSP devs will refuse to look at any bug report that has Xposed in the logs.
EDIT:
Anyway, the battery savings from Nougat are too good to pass over. The only thing I need to customise on my phone is having the Google Dialer, and AdAway, whilst still keeping SafetyNet as passing, which Magisk does perfectly.

Exactly, unless you use every setting on GravityBox then it's not entirely necessary, yet even if those functions are off or there are features of GravityBox you don't use, their code is still run. The bigger it gets the more the overhead there is. If you don't use, say, the network speed monitor, it's hook is still active. I could be wrong, but last time I dabbled with Xposed, this was the case.
If anything, smaller more granular modules would be better for GB. One module for network speed. One module for changing the on-screen buttons, etc. That way you only install modules that you use, rather than a whole library of them where you might only use 2-3 of the actual features.

Viper4Android FX doesn't work

It calling me all time for the driver. I do that every time and I give him magisk root to do that. Any suggestion?
Did i get here some help or not? Then i looking maybe for a other Forum...
Install as system app and allow it to install through the not recommended settings.
U now have to delete it and reinstall it.. Watch the instructions in the thread pls before you become sow passive agressive mate. It is not our fault, ok?
Use this module. Flash in Magisk manager. Choose latest driver, material app, system app, lib workaround, and choose no for the last. (I don't remember what was it)
Hi, I've a Mi9 and tried to install Viper4AndroidFx.. Installation ok, driver installed, but no effect.. tried to set all to highest value to ear some difference but nothing..
Uninstalled it, i tried Viper4Android Legacy, installed as system app and by magisk and chosen all installation option with up volume button..
But still no difference with the stock speaker.. can you help me?
I would like to encrease the volume during a calling. thanks bye
take a look on mi8 or mi a1 forum in xda, there is described exactly which modules in Magisk must be installed to allow a proper function of the ViperFX. Still bootloader locked, so I cannot support by then.

make sure to have installed Magisk Manager, also latest Magisk root installed via TWRP. After this it should be pretty simple, look for the afore mentioned modules in Magisk install them one by one (each single one might require a reboot). After installing them you may install ViperFX, (version 2.3.4 as a system app).

hi, I tried to do everything you said, no one difference..
in a few days when the unlocking time will end will try it myself and in case will make it work, I will post here the process steps.
You have to install the legacy version with lib workaround. For me its working or you can try the rootless version from team_dewitt (look here in xda for it) you only need twrp and init.d injector.
Try this one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-viper4android-fx-2-6-0-0-t3774651
Just to install the apk, nothing else.
Working here like a charm
Hi, I tried the version linked by pokko, it works, but I can't find the way to encrease volume, it works just to have a lower volume, If I set the master volume value higher it doesn't encrease, seems like the stock volume.. is there a way to have an higher volume for the speakers?
thanks
2.7.0/2.7.1 working great on MIUI but with GSI roms it's a different story
if someone can tell me how to get an higher volume please let me know soon.. I'm really thinking to remove root frome my phone.. I've found no one good reason to have it, I don't want to change rom, so I did it just to have 3 things: adaway, encrease volume and use ps3 controller with bluetooth...
adaway doesn't block anything in site that I tried it,
with viper4android my speaker volume is still the same..
miui seems not compatible with ps3 controller.. sixaxis compatibility checker can't works with bluetooth..
the only good thing I've found is the modded youtube version with no ads and background player.. but I've seen exist a versione for no rooted phones too..

Magisk SafetyNet basic integrity fail

Hey guys. I've searched all over but unable to find this specific issue mentioned anywhere.
I've got a K20 Pro Global version updated to 11.0.4 and rooted with Magisk. I've always passed the Basic Integrity check in magisk but for some reason I suddenly appear to be failing it. Screenshot attached?
Is there anyway to fix this? I've read that the cts profile will no longer pass but can't see anything about the Basic failing as well.
Would appreciate any help to get this fixed.

Have you read discussions in general Magisk thread
- Which Magisk modules you use, do you update them regularly
Disable all modules, reboot and test again
Then enable modules one by one (reboot and test) to find the culprits

As said, disable all your modules as well as remove Xposed if you have and test SF again
BB, V4A, AML are safe (I have them, and SafetyNet is green).
If on stock, you really don't need MHPC (no need to and better don't fake the device fingerprint) - only if needed for CN firmwares (don't know)
Riru and Xposed are likely questionable, check in Magisk thread, people recently had Basic Integrity failures with them, I think there was a workoround

Thanks for this. Funny enough I installed MHPC to try and fix the issue. So it existed before that install.
Riru I only installed yesterday to try and get Youtube Vanced installed. Xposed haven't installed.
I'm actually scared to disable the V4A module coz the last time I tried to u install it via Magisk my phone would no longer reboot and kept automatically going to fast boot.
I will check the Magisk thread and see if I can figure this out. Thanks for that.
A quick question. Does your YouTube switch to HDR when playing an HDR video? Mine used to but is no longer working.
So just wondering if Safetynet not passing is the reason.

Well consider yourself lucky. The magisk module you have installed is the old version. My YouTube got updated to the official one (my mistake) and when I tried to reinstall the YouTube vanced via Magisk noticed that it was no longer there. Read up on it and found out that Vanced has been removed from Magisk
To install the new version Riru was one of the requirements.
With regards to the YouTube image you sent me, it shows the HDR for me as well. What I meant was that the display does not auto switch to HDR. The image remains full whereas earlier the brightness (nits) would automatically shoot up to max

The last Vanced module I updated from Magisk repo was v14.21.54 and Riru is not (never has been) needed.
I can give you a download link if you want to install
From your previous attachment you don't run Vanced module but maybe their apk - you say it requires Riru now (?)
Where can I see exactly if HDR is playing as HDR or not?
Btw, check eg by DRM Info do you have Widevine L1

Yes please. I've always had it installed via the Magisk repo. But as stated earlier, I updated youtube by mistake via the play store. Usually I just uninstall the update and Vanced is back in. But this time it didn't. When I went back to Magisk it was no longer available. It's then that I read that Magisk support has stopped as the new version can no longer be installed through it.

I do have L1. The best way I can explain it is with this youtube video. Exactly the same issue.
https://youtu.be/jqs5yrwcUI0?t=273
I did the same as the video. Downloaded an HDR video of something that was on youtube (in HDR) and played it via MX Player. Night and day difference.
However I'm starting to wonder if the reason it worked before is because I was on Vanced.
And before I forget...your tip worked!! Along with Riru and MHPC, I removed Detach, Ainur Narsil and FDE.AI from magisk and rebooted. Lo and behold the safetynet now passes with flying colors!!! I'm not sure which one was the culprit but it worked. Thank you!

I did the same as the video. Downloaded an HDR video of something that was on youtube (in HDR) and played it via MX Player. Night and day difference.

When playing with MiXplayer (part of MiXplorer), colors are poor.
With Mi Video - beautiful.
With Vanced module, I'm not 100% sure is it the same quality as with Mi Video

c27 update viper4android

Hi,
Now they fixed the fingerprint in the ç27 update. I rooted my x2pro again with Magisk 20.4 So far so good.
Now I really wanted my viper4android Android back, but I get a bootloop when activating the driver.
I tried the aml patch but no luck so far.
Anybody tried this with success?
Luckily it's easy to undo the install in TWRP.
Just run the zip file and it would uninstall v4a.

I managed to get v4a working again after hours trying different methods
Install magisk
Get the aml and v4a rootless zip version here https://zackptg5.com/android.php not from magisk repo
First install AML through magisk install complete don't reboot now got recovery install v4a rootless zip when install complete reboot
After that install v4a apk xda labs version https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.pittvandewitt.viperfx
Now you have working v4a c 27 update
Wow great.
It works again. I'm what they call a happy camper ?
NB: My setup picture for my Sony WF1000 in ears. I use an old studer.irs for convolver. 2 ms deferential sound. Balance a little to left for compensation and viper clarity natural...
Thanks for helping me out.
Good evening, you can tell me how I update my realme x2pro to c27 and the rooted, I'm on the c11 rooted version and twrp installed, I did not want to update it to Android 10 not to lose the fingerprint, but now that they are fixed the problem on c27 I would like to update it. If there's someone who can help me and give me a link to a tutorial, I haven't found here on xda a tutorial that explains the root and installation of twrp. Thank you

No it doesn't, but I turn it off anyway because it's adding a bit too much for my liking.

Ah yeah I mean I like to use the movie preset when playing though speakers, so that's great.
Do you guys have any issues with system sounds and ringtone? If I'm not using a convolver it's fine, but with convolver active there are unusual sound glitches and audio pops.

Could you please go into sound settings and then change the media volume slider so it plays that short sound? Nothing weird happens for you?

Yep there is always a bit of lag before the driver kick's in when playing media audio. Also when you start playing music. I don't think there's a solution for that.
I think I just got used ?

Ah yes that's the thing, but the problem is when receiving notifications from different apps.
For instance I get a notification from Viber and there's a slight pop, but then I receive a notification from Facebook and first it plays the remaining sound from Viber then from FB and it sounds really messed up.
It's sad if there's no solution, but I guess I'll keep investigating.
Though I don't think there's no solution, since this always worked fine for me, previously on Nexus 6P, LG V30 and HTC 10.
Btw, my suggestion for the SRS_1_1_Normal_stereo.irs convolver.
Edit the EQ to something like -2dB for the bass freq and -4dB for 4KHz, the rest is up to you.
It gives incredible deep bass and better bass response to the speakers.
Edit: the partial solution for the mentioned issue is to enable attach audio effects option in V4A. I'm not sure if it works for every audio player, but it works with Poweramp. What it does is it disables V4A processing for everything but the music player. The drawback to this is when I'm listening to something in Poweramp and want to play something eg. on YouTube, there is no sound at first. It works okay when I stop/close poweramp. For my usage this is kind of fine I guess, so I thought I would share.
hello everyone and thanks for the explanation everything works correctly now
I don't know if it only happens to me or if it is normal, when I close the multitasking v4a application it stops working, I tried turning it into a system application but the same thing happens, can you help me with that question?

Hey, I have used this method previously to install V4A, but I can't get it working anymore. After trying out custom ROMs, I've gone back to clean RUI 1.0 C38, and following the same steps the V4A doesn't work. Has anyone found a reliable way to install V4A?

Question OneUI 4.1 Android 12 Viper4Android

Has anyone managed to get viper working for any devices on OneUI 4.1 SELinux Enforcing? I tried everything but nothing worked, and I don't want to set SELinux to permissive. Help is appreciated
I haven't tried installing it on OneUI devices, but had a lot of troubles getting it to work on my Oneplus. This discussion has good instructions on how to get it working. I personally did not used it, as I tackled this problem before it was created, but most of the steps from this instruction I remember doing.
Just in case, have you tried enabling legacy mode in settings?

The issue with Viper on OneUI 4 is the installation of the driver, no combination of Audio compatibility magisk modules worked, no matter what you do Viper is never able to install the driver, meaning that you can't even access any settings in Viper because the driver install prompt pops up every time you open the app.
That's strange. Is Viper magisk module just not getting installed? Only thing I can suggest is to try to install it using Zackptg5 installer.

The magisk module installs but the driver doesn't. And the rootless installer can't really be used because there's no twrp available for the tab s8+. I tried an app which supposedly can flash the zip bit it didn't work
PowerAmp Equalizer can do the same without root

No it doesn't lol.
PowerAmp is just a basic eq with a compressor
I use Viper for DDC and Convoler mainly, equalizer secondarily
