Moto G 2014 Ghosting solved with other ROM? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I experience ghosting (see photos) on my Moto G 2014. I suspect it started right after upgrading from Android 5 to 6 (stock ROM).
https://postimg.org/image/l4wul6421/
https://postimg.org/image/g4zed7yfd/
It is persistent even in Safe Mode.
I now think about putting a custom ROM on it. Any ideas?

Help, since getting this version OTA on Moto X 2013, wifi connectivity is TERRIBLE. Do you have the previous version?
Hello, someone could upload the latest updates from the app Moto:
Moto
Moto Voice
Moto Action
Moto Display
Edit the build.prop and now tells me that are not compatible with my device.

Android M for Moto G 2014?

Hello,
There are rumours over the internet that Motorola might skip Android 5.1 update for Moto G 2014 and going for Android M/Android 6.0 update. Anybody have any idea about this? I have already started to wonder because Moto G 2013 received Android 5.1 update quite a while ago and all that Moto G 2014 got was Stagefright fix.

Moto g 2014 will get 6.0. We always have our devs :v
Yes please skip 5.1.1 and wait another half year for Motorola to release M for Moto G2, when the next Android version will be released by Google and skip Android M too. :good:
Google App Version 5.3
Please install the new google now launcher on play store, moto g 2nd gen.. vertical app icon nd search option is the new change
Devices with Android 4.4 and higher, reports say, are eligible to get the update. However, it was reported that only Android M preview 3 devices will experience the perks of the update.
A few months ago, the company announced that the Now on Tap feature would not be included in the Android M preview testers. The update though may imply that Google has changed its mind.
Meanwhile, the update also brings the vertical scrolling app drawer to the Google Now Launcher.

developers created 5.1.1 based roms while it wasn't rolled out by moto g, so will they get interest in developing marshmallow for our device?

Hell yeah. I don't care about the Moto update. We have a great community.
Well, finally we have the news. Motorola is going to provide Android Marshmallow update for Moto G 2014. Here is the link from Motorola official blog: http://motorola-blog.blogspot.in/2015/10/marshmallow-and-smore.html
The best part is, their software upgrade page now shows information about Android 6.x Marshmallow
Check it out here: https://motorola-mobility-en-in.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/2014
So most probably, we won't be getting any Android 5.1..1 update.

Well, Motorola has announced Android M/Android6.0 for Moto G 2014. It is on their official blog and you can check it here: http://motorola-blog.blogspot.in/2015/10/marshmallow-and-smore.html.
Also, their software upgrade page now shows information about Android 6.x Marshmallow
Check it out here: https://motorola-mobility-en-in.cust...news/g_id/2014
But what we need to keep in mind is that Motorola is very much slow when it comes to releasing updates. Nexus already got it, I am sure, like Android Lollipop, many of other devices would get it before Motorola releases.

Well, let's just look at the history:
Android 5.0: We got it after months after Google released it for Nexus.
Android 5.1: Nexus got it long time back, we didn't get that one.
Android 6.0: You say? maybe June 2016 or something

Moto 2nd gen XT1072 - ROM, Version and Camera problems

I've got a problem with Motorola Moto G 2014 LTE XT1072...
It looks like it is the MOTO G 2014 LTE version, from what I could read from the internet about XT1072. However, all ROMS for XT1072 are THEA, and my Motorola is TITAN. I don't understand why I've got TITAN -. everywhere I look, I see THEA XT1072 and TITAN for devices lower than 1072
Because of this thea/titan problem I flashed some ROMs dedicated for MOTO G 2014 version, hpwever:
1. Some ROMs are not compatible(can't even flash) because bootloader version 4882 is required. I've got 4821.
2. Older ROMs (Android 4.4 or 5.1) sometimes work fine, however on every single one of them the camera doesn't work. It did work on stock rom.
My questions:
1. Any ideas why my camera doesnt work?
2. How to update bootloader to 4882?
3. Is it possible to change my device from titan to thea?
Your device is Thea.
Most likely, at the time you rooted it, you used TWRP 2.8.6.0, which had support for both Moto G 2014 (Titan & Thea). And then you went ahead and flashed some ROM for Titan - and it worked just fine.
1. If you still use a Titan ROM, one of the bugs is that original Motorola apps don't show up in Google Playstore.
Try to flash this one.
2. You can't and don't have to update your bootloader to 4882. What you need to do is to edit two files in any Titan ROM and add your bootloader number (4821) and Thea model product (1072) to trick the install verification.
3. Your device is Thea. Unless you buy a XT106x, it will always be Thea.

If I try to flash a Thea rom it says I am Titan.
I am 100% that I have Moto 1072.
Well, as long as you are '100%"...
Still, check again by your IMEI (click on the DON'T KNOW? and find out your IMEI number and enter it there).
If they are unable to find your model, enter the IMEI here.
Mind you, the XT1072 goes by any of the following code-names:
MOTO G 2 XT1072, MOTO G 2015 XT1072, MOTO G LTE 2ND GEN, MOTO G2 4G XT1072, SM4031AE7B1, THEA XT1072, TI12410745, XT1072

Then why does this ROM work for me? Except the camera.
I have an XT1072 (Thea) and I use only Titan ROMs ever since I unlocked it. They are updated more frequently and there is a particular one, Temasek-based, that I believe is the only one worth using as Android 6. And it is maintained only for Titan, so...
Most people will tell you, "Oh, no, it's impossible". In bolded exclamations.
Yet here we are. Because Thea and Titan are almost identical - and by "almost" I mean not exactly the same, but almost.
Then, others will list lots of bugs if you attempt to cross-install.
Well, I encountered none - if you don't count the facts that Motorola-signed apps don't show up in PlayStore and there is no icon for 4G in Titan - my network says H+ instead of 4G. But that's because our LTEs are cooler than Titans, so... The speed is equivalent to the theoretical 4G - only the symbol is missing.
Maybe you encountered a camera-bug using a Titan ROM on a Thea.
But have you tried a different app? Is your camera nonfunctional or is it just an app thing? ROMs have buil-in camera apps - try a different one from Playstore. Or the one I suggested earlier, Moto-made.
Maybe you did something else to your phone when you managed to install a Titan ROM. Maybe someone else did it for you.
In my phone's Settings specs, it shows Titan everywhere - but it is the ROM's signature, not the actual device. My Moto G XT1072, just like yours, is Thea.
I see. Thanks.
When I flash a thea ROM, TWRP says I am titan and can't do it. Do I only need to download TWRP 2.8.6.0 and as you said - edit "metadata" and "updater-script" files, so they include Thea bootloader and product device?
TWRP 2.8.6.0 was the last one that had support for both Moto G 2014.
If you look at the versions baked for Thea, there was no TWRP before 2.8.7.0.
SO:
- if you plan to make Thea ROMs work on your phone, as Moto-God intended, you should use the latest for Thea.
- if you want to stick to Titan ROMs (with modded files, as shown above), you will have to use TWRP 2.8.6.0. The later versions won't work at all, let alone let themselves tricked by modified signatures.
However.
Flashing new and different ROMs requires lots of wiping. Follow the tutorials and make sure you know what you're doing - once deleted, you WILL lose and the so-so working system you have now. Because you have to delete everything - else will be conflicts and unexpected bugs all over again.
I did as you said. Everything works. I installed CM13 and camera works perfectly. Thank you very much for help
So happy for you :good:
Titan or Thea?

Some update in 2019 about using Titan builds for Thea, Moto G Titan and Thea being real twins.
As there is no yet working LineageOS_15 or 16 builds available for Thea, I've tried using lineage-16.0-20190311-UNOFFICIAL-titan build on my XT1072_thea, and it works with two remarks:
1 - operation compatible with twrp-3.2.3-0-thea.img recovery (the latest for Thea)
2 - 4G/LTE is not enabled (only H+).
Test done .... for "test purpose", although often reported "impossible".

Moto app for custom ROM [6.0/6.0.1]

Is there any custom android 6 ROM that has Moto app? I meant THIS
OR, Does the ROM support the Moto features of :
Moto Display, Moto Voice, Moto Actions, etc... if you know what I mean. If so, give the link for that ROM
I can't afford to lose this, I love this mobile for those features.
OR ELSE, Is there a separate Moto app for a ROM, if so, please give the link for ROM with that Moto app
OR, Does the app directly from the Google Play Store works? If so, give the link for that ROM
Also, if you could give me the default CM13.0 link along with this, I'd be greatful
Here, the ROM I'm asking is totally Android 6.0, Marshmallow and the device is totally MOTO X (2013)
Thank you guys for the concern, you guys rock!
If you want to use Moto display, voice, and etc features, you should stay on stock.
There is no official CM13 for Moto X yet.
You can try Team octOS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/romghost-team-octos-oct-m-t3324780
Or search XDA forums for unofficial CM based marshmallow ROMs.

No, device support ended in 5.1.
And no custom 6.0.1 rom will have the Moto functions because that's proprietary and Lenovo won't release the drivers.

Fun Fact: CyanogenMod 12.1 is the latest CyanogenMod version available for Moto X, AND Moto G received 13 snapshot just a while back.

To be fair the 2013 Moto G was a much more popular device than the 2013 Moto X.
Even unofficial ROMs are becoming more rare to our device, I have a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and it received a very functional Nougat ROM just 5 days after official launch, meanwhile I don't see any interest from a kind developer in porting Nougat to our phone.
Despite that I don't see much reason to buy a new phone right now, my phone is fine even after more than 2 years owning it.
