[Guide] How To Set Up microG Easily - Zenfone 2 Laser General

Introduction
microG GmsCore is a FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) framework to allow applications designed for Google Play Services to run on systems, where Play Services is not available. If you use your phone without GAPPS this might become a useful tool for you.
microG GmsCore is one of the two core components of the microG project. His job is to replace the Gapps (you'll continue to use the PlayStore), thus giving you a longer battery life and performance without loss of resources.
This software is not developed by me, I am just sharing a tutorial for it to get things easy
All the credit goes to @MaR-V-iN for developing the app
And @ale5000 for making a flashable zip.
Guide-
1. You must be on a ROM that supports signature-spoofing. For Z00L, the ROMs available that supports signature-spoofing are halogenOS, crDroid and AOSPExtended.
2. There must not be any kind of GApps package installed.
3. Flash these two files-
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=141201
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=143098
4. Enable signature-spoofing in ROM settings for halogenOS and crDroid. (AEx already has enabled signature-spoofing, there will appear a permission-granting dialogue in microG app).
5. Open microG Settings > click on self-check > Give signature-spoofing permission. Rest all of the settings will be enabled automatically.
6. In Google services, enable device registration, GCM and SafetyNet.
7. Enable unifiedNLP settings.
8.Install google contact sync (apk provided in download section). Give both the contact permissions to it.
9. Reboot
10. Enter settings> accounts and add your Google account as usual. You're done!!
(To check if push notifications are working or not, check it with the testing app provided in download section)
Hit Thanks If I Helped.

And does micro g has official support?

For official support- yes, from the developer of this app.
And lastly,
Hit Thanks instead of typing it.

Good tutorial.. Now i know how to flash microG. But one doubt, the only diff is the absence of play services right? Others things are same gapps? Does microG sync everything, like Google drive , photos, maps etc?

@kunalchitara: I have released new versions of microG unofficial installer and Google Sync Add-on.
Can you please update the links?

Its completely minimalistic approach for Google services. Amd google contact sync works. Other apps might sync but not surw about them.

The second link isn't updated.
PS: The second link is the Google Sync Add-on (that contains also the contacts sysnc apk), why you also say "Install google contact sync"?
In this way it is installed two times.

Updated the second link.
And the contact sync apk that came with the zip wasn't working properly so, i installed contact sync adapter apk seperately and it worked. Haven't tried the new version though.

[q] How to remove Google and Google+

Hi, I have one question about Google and Google+. How to remove the files in our custom rom before flashing the rom? Ya, we can delete it using root explorer but I love to know which apk/files contain the twos apks. Thank's.
Google+ isn't necessarily an apk in the gapps package so google+ won't be there in the custom ROMs and I'm not sure if Google Now is a thing that can be removed as it is an exclusive feature of Android 4.1+ . Not sure though. :|

afair Google Now gets active only after you log in to your Google account from Google Search, logging get out brings the Search back

He wants to disable google search, i don't see any way to do that except not flashing gapps at all which isn't desirable. I'd be glad if you can help him disable google search if possible.
If it is a TW ROM then just pull the apk's out of system/preload...

I guess it all depends on the ROM - I have two different devices, on one the Search is a system app (system/app/Velvet.apk), on other it was installed via Play market (data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk).
Generally if the apk resides in zip file, it can be removed before flashing (I usually clean ROMs from all apps I don't need on my PC using WinRar), the only problem could be finding name of the apk file to remove.
Yes you're right, the name of the app is where the problem resides as I did check the frameworks folder of the ROM. It's ROM specific isn't it, and tampering with an app like google search can surely cause some unforeseen errors too. I don't see any reason why google search has become such an undesirable app for the poster!
Not sure how it works for stock-based ROMs, on my N7000 I have Slimbean, which comes without Search - it can be installed from the Market separately if someone needs it
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda premium
Slimbean has gapps of its own, customised for the ROM which are available on their site. The gapps on goo.im which are prescribed by some other ROMs come with the feature of google-search.

in this case it should be enough to remove "QuickSearchBox.apk" from the zip file before flashing
This removes Google search altogether or just the search box on the home screens which cannot be gotten away from the settings options in certain ROMs?

Not sure, the search box may be a separate widget, you could check with Root App Delete (enables/disables system apps)

First of all, wrong section mate. Always post such question in the Galaxy Ace S5830 Q/A section. As for the TimeScape UI problem, did you follow the steps to be done after the installation? You can find the necessary details here. Also make sure to sign into your Google account. Google Play usually comes up right after you do that. Do post the result. Hope I Helped
P.S. Reported to FM to move to right section.

i've try adding account using that way..but there is no google connection...
it's just a kind of any regular email...and after logged in my phone still can't access the Google Play even i have installed another googlePlay.apk
Did you flash Gapps package? Because Gapps aren't installed in this rom.. You have to flash the Gapps package provided in the download section by the developer..
After that replace the old Playstore with the latest version or let it update itself. You will be able to add Google account after that..

Can anyone give me a tip on how to download Google Drive files on mobile? The zips always get saved as some weird name eg 2016-08-23- XXXX and saved to some weird location that does not show up in search (not Downloads folder). Really annoying, I am sure there is a simple workaround.

Yes, it works like a charm just flash the zip file in the custom recovery and then the Aroma installer UI appears and later on it's self explanatory.
I did it on latest Feb 2017 security update (N4F26O) on Stock Android
Just a quick note, seeing this is still a recurring thing, anytime I flash OpenGapps aroma version, the apps that are excluded are automatically removed from the rom after the aroma zip is flashed. So aroma package also functions as a debloater.
If you have no scripts or don't know what to do, using Aroma OpenGapps has been a good alternative option for me.

lineage os and google cam

Hi all guys, I'm using lineageos, flashed a couple days ago with gapps full pack...
I have a question for you: I'd like use google camera but it crashes every time. Do you know if there is something like a fix, or it is a problem with the package? In some posts I read that it's suggested to flash gapps pico, but I fear to flash another time, install and google cam won't work.
Do you have any good advices?
Thanks

Google camera doesn't work properly due to the mixed implementation of the camera HAL by xiaomi. You should use the snap camera that comes with LineageOS, which works well.
If you disable denoise, and set sharpness to 1 the quality is actually quite good.
I do not know of any fix to Google camera, but there's a dedicated thread where different options are being discussed, which might be worth looking into.
Regarding GApps: you can flash them again, and change between different versions when doing so. The installer would check for what's installed already, and switch to wherever you're installing. The aroma package is quite convenient as well, because you can select exactly what you want to install, and enable Pixel luncher and Google assistant directly.

Thanks for the tip with the armoa package! it helped me with the camera issue.
The only thing worth mentioning is that in order to re-install the stock camera I had to re-install LineageOS, and then install the aroma package without the google camera.
When I tried to only install the gapps without the google camera so I didn't have any camera app at all.
Anyway now it works, thanks again!

Is there a Magisk module to remove all google apps and services?

I'm looking to get an Android phone but I don't want any google apps or services on it including the play store. Is there a Magisk module that can remove all the google apps and services and play store from a phone? I did a search for "remove google apps" and other such searches but could not find what I'm looking for. I see that the Aurora app store is an alternative play store. Is it safe to use?
Thank you for your advice!
Easiest would be to just flash a custom ROM and don't bother with installing Gapps. Voilà, free of Google apps and services.

Thank you for the reply. I agree but from my research I could not find custom ROMs available for the Pixel 3 that are officially supported and stable. Please recommend one if there is one that is officially supported and stable. If there is not I would like to know the steps after I root a phone to remove all the google apps and services.
https://f-droid.org/app/org.droidtr.deletegapps
But its very likely to experience bugs and problems (like force closes). The best option is to use a custom Rom
Or you can try the Nanodroid Module (to install microG), probably better than just remove GApps.
AuroraDroid/-store works as it should. I don't know what you mean by 'safe'.

Thank you for the reply. Ok I really would rather use a custom ROM. LineageOS to be precise but there is no official support for the Pixel 3. That's why I'm asking if there is a way, after rooting the phone, to remove all the google apps and services. You mentioned MicroG but does that actually remove all the google apps and services? I looked up MicroG and it looks to be for people who still want to use google apps and services but securely. I don't use anything google apps or services. There are some Microsoft apps I need for work so that's why I asked about Aurora. When I asked if Aurora is safe I meant does Aurora track or do anything unsecure.
Is there a LineageOS custom ROM that does work with the Pixel 3? If not then do I use MicroG to remove all the google stuff?
Sorry to ask so many questions. I've spent hours researching this stuff and there is so much info I read up on that I just need some clarity. Thanks for your patience.

"Official" and "unofficial" are quite often just terms to clarify, if the builder is part of the dev-team and/or if the Rom/Code is reviewed by one of the dev-team. It is possible, that an unofficial Rom isn't working as good as an official would, but I experienced this quite rarely.
BUT: unofficials usually don't have the possibility to OTA update.
But in the end, "official" and "unofficial" doesn't have to mean much
So my tip: Install and try some Roms, unofficial ones too ^_^

MicroG is an open source and privacy focused Google Services Framework. Its goal is to let apps work, which rely on GApps. I suggested it to grant a bit more stability to your un-googled stock Rom. Because the GApps are most likely deep buried into your (Stock)System, which can lead to severe instability and crashes if you just forcibly rip them out.
At least that's my experience. I never had a usable system with a blank removal of GApps
On a custom Rom its not necessary, if all apps you use work without GApps

I can try to check later. An "official" Lineage is quite unlikely, but maybe I find smth else
But yes, if you can't find a fitting Rom, you'll have to try with manually debloating/microG.
You can try to debloat your phone slowly with "Terminal Debloater" like someone already suggested.
One App/Service after another. If smth breaks, you can simply revert it, because this works systemless
No problem, just ask XDA is a forum and I'm here to help
Lineage is available for Pixel 3. It is unofficial, but built by someone on the Lineage team. Check the Pixel 3xl forum. Most custom roms are posted there, but are actually for both devices. The thing is, most custom roms for the device come with GAPPs included (Including Lineage), so not useful for you. This is getting OT though.

Thank you for the very detailed reply. Very helpful. I decided to get a Oneplus 7T and not a Pixel 3. I did research and found that most custom ROMs for the Oneplus 7T do not officially support Android 10 as well as MicroG and TWRP. The unofficial custom ROMs note that there are bugs and some instability currently. Being a newbie and needing my Oneplus 7T to be reliable as it's my only phone I rather have an officially supported LineageOS with MicroG custom ROM when it's released. Until then I need help figuring out the best method to remove all gapps and services. I don't use any google apps. I do use Microsoft apps so I need those to not only work but be able to send notifications. I also need to have location services work for a non-google maps app and weather app. I would like to keep Oxygen OS as it has some customizations features I like. Am I asking too much? Lol. However, since microG is not supported I don't think I can do what I'm looking for since MicroG removes all gapps and services and replaces them including location services ability and notifications. Does Magisk have a module that can do what I'm looking for?
You'll likely find better help in the OP7T forums:

There is a debloater module you could use for this purpose, you'll find it on the Manager downloads section. Keep in mind that anything you do with a Magisk module is a systemless modification and the files will still be on your device (just masked by Magisk) and will return if you every disable/uninstall the module or remove Magisk. If you want a more permanent solution you'll need to use other means.

I couldn't find the Manager downloads on the OP7T forum. Can you provide a direct link to the Manager downloads?
The "Manager downloads" is in the Magisk Manager, the app.
What I meant was that it will likely be easier for you to find help with debloating the device in its own forum.
