halogenOS Checklist
Although no data should be lost or damaged by the flashing process,
we advise you to follow the following steps if you are coming from another rom:
Please take a full nandroid backup!
Please copy your back up to an external device.
Backing up your Internal Storage is also recommended.
When completed, please clean flash the build!
Although you usually can dirty flash halogenOS over other ROMs, considering the other
ROM has the same Android version, it is not guaranteed. In case of serious
crashes please do a clean flash.
You can dirty flash halogenOS 7 (Nougat) over halogenOS 6 (Marshmallow)
without any problems. Although we can't promise that it will work for you,
we can tell you that this has been tested. In fact, @xdvs23 did a dirty flash of
XOS 7 over XOS 6 and has no problems.
If you get app crashes after dirty flashing over XOS 6 or another ROM, please just
clear the app data of those apps, and it should work fine then.
XOS is a new generation Android-based cutting-edge OS based on the Android Open Source Project and Code Aurora Forum releases.
What is XOS?
halogenOS, also known as XOS is a new Android ROM which ships with the global aim to
become a modular ROM which keeps as high as potentially possible operating
performance on your mobile device while still maintaining a sufficient feature
base of nice, small and minimal features that would not be available via any
external feature base, extension, mod or plugin.
We hope you have a truly halogenified experience!
Internals of XOS
At core, the ROM is composed mainly of components from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP)
and CodeAuroraForums (CAF),
featuring only extremely minor set of components from LineageOS (LaOS or LN) which
have been added to source in order to allow for better cross-device compatibility.
Our LOVE to others
A huge thanks goes to those behind the AOSP and CAF, the LineageOS Project and all of its
contributors for the sources used in the development of the base ROM which we
started with inclusive of all the work and dedication their team puts in order to
keep us updated on the awesome contributions that they make.
We will be keen on ensuring that we be up to date with the code from our base sources,
with regular ROM updates hopefully coming from time to time.
Please do not ask for ETA's (else you shall be spooked by Mr Skeltal). Almost all of us are
students, and with the current lifestyles and routines we have, it is not that easy to acquire
time to develop the ROM, though we'll be sure to keep you updated and release OTAs as
soon as they are available and ready for publication. If you want to be really updated quick,

(constantly updated)

Common stuff
The ROM is super stable as of now and we'll maintain a clean and proper ROM.
Known issues are going to be fixed as soon as possible. We don't have infinite time.
Highlights (some are mido-only):
Reworked Lockscreen Visualizer
New implementation of button backlight
Modern Services -> Google Assistant etc.
Substratum
Full media support (FFMPEG, video codecs, ...)
Great Audio quality, no distortions, no crap
Optimized many portions of the system including surfaceflinger, inputflinger, System Server, and more
Super fast boot
Superuser-capable
Soundmod support (not all soundmods work on Nougat, it's not our fault)
addon.d support (backups your gapps etc. when flashing new build - don't wipe system before flashing!)
init.d support
BusyBox
Disabled Access Time for all partitions (We don't need access time. When access time is enabled, it will store the exact date of the access when a file is accessed, what just wastes write cycles (in theory) and has impact in I/O performance.)
Super smooth
Signature Spoofing toggle (Support for MicroG)
Support for trusted third-party WebViews like Chrome
Long press on home for assist toggle
Security Patches in kernel
Kernel optimizations
Kernel - Upstreamed Linux base to 3.18.55 and CAF Base to LA.UM.5.6.r1-04700-89xx.0
OpenGapps (Mini/Micro/Nano recommended) and Banks GApps support
DoubleTapToWake and DoubleTapToSleep
Alert Slider
Full KeyHandler & KeyDisabler support
Dexpreopt for faster (first) boot time and less space consumption on data partition
Upgrade & Boot the ROM in just 5 minutes - no more endless waiting for flashing a new build
Very high compatibility with other ROMs
VERY IMPORTANT: If you want to use root via SuperSU, make sure to use SuperSU 2.78 SR5 (or newer). Otherwise you won't be able to use sensors. You can also use Magisk and Phh's superuser if you desire to.
How to update the ROM:
Download the latest zip
Reboot into TWRP (Please use official TWRP)
Do not wipe anything
Flash the ROM
Flash SuperSU 2.78 SR5+ or Magisk)
Reboot
You don't need to wipe Cache/Dalvik.
You don't need to flash gapps again. There is some magic going on which keeps your GApps. Just make sure that you don't wipe system before flashing.
You don't need more than 5 minutes.
How to install the ROM for the first time:
Download the latest zip
Reboot into TWRP (Please use official TWRP)
Wipe system, data and cache (If you want to try a dirty flash, dont wipe anything)
Flash the ROM
Flash gapps if you want
Flash Magisk 11.5 (or newer) or SuperSU
Reboot
Screenshots
Currently right now, halogenOS will only include the stock Android theme.
We are going to use a custom theme as soon as that theme is working perfectly fine.

Good, only button backlight not working is annoying any way to fix it?

I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the phone booted for the first time with this ROM, and the few apps that were installed gave it a very Slim-like experience. While I only used it for half an hour, I was quite happy with it, though my only suggestion for now is to add options to swap the order of the hardware buttons. Camera quality didn't seem particularly excellent either, though that could just be my personal opinion.

Tell me, please, how disable Blinking diode on charge??????

Can't wait to install this on my soon the be shipped Mi5S... I gotta ask, what is the reason why (according to some users) MIUI sound quality is extremely bad? I hear that LOS/AOSP ROMs have much better audio, especially this ROM.

Warning: You should not use SuperSU by Chainfire, as that breaks sensors on Nougat ROMs for Redmi Note 3 .
Instead, please flash this zip and install the phh's superuser app from Play Store: Phh's Superuser
How to update the ROM:
Download the latest zip

CarbonROM is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look, build, and use our code at CarbonROM's GitHub... and at CarbonROM Gerrit.
Disclaimer:
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash!
Support:
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Join our Discord server! There, you can connect with other Carbon users and our developers, and you can get quicker responses to your bug reports. The invite link is right below.
We recommend MindTheGApps. OpenGApps should work, but please make sure you clearly mention the gapps you're using when reporting bugs.
Notice:
For this ROM to work you need to use the latest ODM Images. If you need additional guidance on how to do that, please refer to Sonys Guide on how to flash an ODM Image.

No one tried this rom yet? I have a problem over here. It keeps asking for password after the CarbonROM logo even though I wipe everything clear, any ideas? What I was doing was flash 41.3.A.2.99 with everything wiped, flash ODM, flash TWRP, flash the rom and then Pico OpenGapps. Something wrong with my procedure? Thanks in advance.
EDIT1 : Oh yeah, forgot to mention my device is F8332, it isn't supported?

Use the "format data" option in TWRP to get rid of encryption, wipe doesn't clear encryption. If coming from stock, thats necessary unfortunately due to differences in the encryption used. Otherwise (if coming from AOSP) the password its asking for would be the one you used before.
Dual sim support?

Volte Supported??
First of all, thanks alot @Myself5 and all other devs, who are working hard to bring this to our XZ :good:
My experiences after 1 day:
- rom is very smooth and snappy.
- root via Magisk v16 & Xposed 90.1-beta3 (systemless) works flawlessly
- the fp sensor always works, but it's not as sensitive as with stock
- night light worked - until I've installed Substratum and a Substratum theme, but after that it doesn't work anymore (even after deactivating, uninstalling the theme, a system restart and deinstalling the Substratum app it sill doesn't work). Also a dirty flash of the rom.zip didn't help to get it working again.
- the build-in camera takes acceptable pics (not as well as the stock camera, but acceptable); also focussing is a little slower than stock. Another thing is, it's not possible to chance the location to save the pics to the ext. sdcard.
- formatted as a portable storage, the ext. sdcard item on the left of the status bar can't be removed (see attachement)
- the battery consumption is a bit high (from 100 % to 98 % in 1 h - without doing anything)
But in the whole, it's really promising for th 1st official build :good::good::good:

Hello, is the battery life when used good ? As good as stock ?
And does it have that bug when if you record video the result will be green ?
Can you upload screen recording of rom from home to settings and other functions.
I plan on flashing this soon, but I figured I'd tell you, your link to the Carbon FAQ is broken.

The battery consumption while in use is ok. But my device doesn't go into deepsleep while the screen is off. So I had lost about 23 % in 10 hrs - leaving the device untouched!
Video recording works; I haven't noticed that bug.

Sorry, I went back to stock for now, as there's a new stock fw (41.3.A.2.107).
I have a few bugs to report. First, the fingerprint sensor is extremely slow, about half or even one third of the speed compared to stock. Second, could you guys please fix the deepsleep? That one is not working for now. And third, Night Light does not work at all...
Thank you for updating the XZ to Android 8.1 I am glad to see carbon rom on this device although it is not that stable for now.
Really nice ROM and I'm looking forward to make this my daily driver, I tried it for two days and these are the bugs I found:
1: GPU performance is really bad with 2d games and google maps lagging all the time when they never do on stock
2: CPU performance is inferior compared to stock, especially single threaded
3: enabling 120 hz display won't do anything and the settings or UI will crash when leaving the page
4: fingerprint seems to be sometimes less responsive, usable but can be improved
Camera is not so bad and the modded google camera works well, hopefully this will become the first proper AOSP based platform for this device that has only seen failures until now, keep up the good work.
Can I dirty flash this rom for just update?
I use Carbon Rom 3/31 version, but I can't use delta update because my device cannot receive the stock script.
I must change the rom script with Notepad+.
So...can I use dirty flash or....could you manage it?
Thanks for continously updating this rom and thank you for fixing the bug with the fingerprint sensor.
I'm not sure if deepsleep has been fixed but there is a big problem with playing music. I can't even play any music track at all...
Hello, looking forward to make this my daily driver, is it possible ?
What I would want is decent battery life and camera.
Hello. I tried to listen to music after installing the ROM, but the earphones are disconnected as soon as they are connected to the smartphone.
The earbuds pfe 132 and are made up of earphones with an iphone microphone.

Clean flashed the 10th build along with Rytekk's dual-SIM patch, Pico Open GApps and Magisk 16.3 to my F8332 and other than that annoying SD notification (which can be banished to the notification drawer by making System UI notifications low priority) and Night Light not working, the only other major issue raised ITT of the CPUs not entering Deep Sleep is fixed according to Adiutor.
Great stuff. I haven't been able to standardise on one ROM since the CM days (interesting side note, it looks like you built the kernel for the NOCT build on my Z2 tablet).
I recommend this to anyone for daily use. Also, lower your expectations to realistic levels guise. I remember when XDA threads were for flagging major broken functionality, not complaining that a few amateur enthusiasts weren't putting out work that competed on every indicator against the finished product of a multibillion-dollar for-profit international conglomerate.

Any help ?

Thanks Raystef66, I'm using this ROM as of tonight. I have successfully upgraded from AOSP 6.5 (May) on my A2017 (chinese).
Much smoother and quicker, although that is expected with a new ROM install after so long! I hope to give you more feedback.
Dungeon Maker had issues installing, which i think may be due to CTSmismatch in magisk (v20). I still have not been successful in passing it.
Do you have a kernel recommended? Or which kernel do you have with this ROM?
Thank you for all of your hard work in keeping the Axon7 ROMs active.

Install MagiskHidePropsConfig and Busybox and run "props" via terminal and choose f.e. the axon7 oreo FP. You'll pass cts. I run magisk 20.0 and all ok.
I suggest installing the RC1.2 kernel which you can find HERE.
In my next build I was planning to take that one within the ROM. But you can install it without probs tho
Btw, picture below is on new crDroid but MHPC should give u the same results on ArrowOS
Thanks Ray, I appreciate your reply and knowledge of this.
The app updated and worked without needing the ctsmismatch pass, so i'll just wait for your update.
In the 3 days since I've been using this ROM, I can appreciate the following coming from AEX 6.5. A freshly installed ROM does have some of these benefits so I'm probably biased.
1. Arrow has a faster boot into the rom. the loading screen is awesome and the loading effect is great.
2. Arrow uses half as much ram, 1.7gig compared to 3.2gig. This is probably a fresh install thing though, as i have a lot less apps now.
3. quicker and cleaner.
Thanks, the only thing i hope you have in future builds is the cts, and the option for when you reset the phone, there are the extra options to boot into recovery.
*found this option under 'buttons' in the android menu, apologies.
Ive been using this for a month now and its been awesome.
The only bug or issue I've had is the dictionary and auto-correct. Auto-correct does not work at all, and it doesnt recognise mis-spelt words. Android keyboard seems to have limited option.
Thank you for developing this ROM.

Hi raystef66,
Thank you so much for your great efforts and sharing with this amazing ROM.
The only issue for me is so far - Gesture Typing of AOSP Keyboard is not working.
I have checked its setting to make sure the gesture typing function turned on, but still not working.
Is it experiencing only me? how about other people?
I'm sure that this is an ignorable minor bug for me, otherwise this ROM is finely matured exquisite PIE ROM.
In the next update, however, would you mind adding the advanced settings option?
Thanks again.
BUILD 2019.11.17 First Impressions
Pretty happy with this ROM coming from the most recent (now deprecated) Lineage 15.1 Official Nightly and really loving Arrow.
The only thing I'm missing is the ability to slide finger on status bar to adjust brightness.
I noticed the battery life seems noticeably better. I was hours away from replacing my Axon due to the battery just being horrible, even after being recently replaced. Everything seems buttery smooth besides the Gcam app I'm using. It works, but very sluggish.
Please do recommend your favorite camera app for this ROM.
I'm passing SafetyNet after installing Pixel Android 9 Props.
GPS took over a minute to get a lock the first time around, but now works within 15 seconds as expected.
USB tethering has been temperamental. I disabled hardware acceleration via Developer Settings and it seems to be working better.
I can confirm that swipe texting on AOSP keyboard does not work, however works fine with Gboard.
Hardware keys work as expected however even with the home button Long Press Action set to activate Google Assistant it does nothing. It seems that the Google Assistant action does not work with any of the button settings including the on screen navbar.
I haven't been able to get USB-OTG to work on any ROMs since ditching stock. Maybe someone knows a fix. It doesn't work in TWRP either, so maybe it's my hardware.
Besides a few minor quirks, I am hugely grateful for this ROM providing Pie and rekindling my love for this aging Axon. Thank you!
Swipe typing on the aosp keyboard just means it's missing the libs. Seen it before. Last I checked open gapps aroma let you restore the libs.. But using a different keyboard is a better idea.
Thank you for the update and fixes! Still using this since September.
As above, the keyboard (and in my case, autocorrect doesnt work as well as other roms) is the only thing thats not going so great.
Apart from that, its flawless. Thank you again!
Hi,
Thank you for this very good ROM!
Tested several days, I only noticed a bug in the Google camera with the GAPPS stock. When the application is updated, it stops working.
I also wonder if wifi calls work. Maybe I didn't find the right option to activate them.
(and the GPS sometimes remains blocked at a location and does not update itself).
Everything else is perfect!
Wi-Fi access point and usb modem do not work ....
Wi-Fi access point and usb modem do not work .... sometimes attempts to turn on those options cause a system lock and forced hard reset
PS I turned off hardware acceleration as someone wrote here - USB tethering works ... the problem with the wireless hot spot remains ...
PS2 I don’t know why, but during a 10-kilometer trip, GPS is lost several times, and somewhere near the final destination of the trip, the phone suddenly starts to show the right way this is already becoming a tradition.....
I my location on this ROM i have a problem with conersation. Before i used AOSP 5.7 based on Oreo and in my room i could talk by phone. Acctually i must go to kitchen because only there i can normally talk.
It's look like worse signal or not all bands compatible. My Axon have B20 (it isn't china version). Sometimes i have problem with internet - connecting by LTE isn't possible. When i was in London i couldn't use internet. Phone found transmitter, about 3/5 signal strange but any page or facebook lite no load.

We are very excited to announce the alpha/beta of Paranoid Android Topaz, based on Android 13.
On the first launch, you’ll notice a clean setup with beautiful wallpapers from Hampus Olsson, who teamed up with us again to create several beautiful pieces of artwork. Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose design stands for itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We also added further UI touches that we believe enhance the overall user experience. You can find all of the Paranoid Android wallpapers and many more in the Abstruct app from the PlayStore.
Our builds are based on the Code Linaro Organization Android base, which is optimized for Qualcomm platforms and has a higher degree of performance, battery life, and functionality compared to the Android Open Source Project platform. The Paranoid Android team and contributors are focusing on squashing existing bugs, and implementing and improving features, performance, and stability. We are dedicated to providing a user experience with the stability that you can expect from stock ROMs with best-in-class performance and features to help you get the most out of your device.

Nice and also official. Can't wait to get paranoid again
Peru !!!
niceeeeeeeeeeeee.......
Where do we get boot.img and vendor_boot.img?
From paranoid android file? Or from miui stock original firmware?
Can I use minimal adb&fastboot to install fastboot img file?
Can I use 13.0.2 firmware from xiaomi.eu to flash it, or I'll get hard brick?
Works beautifully, no lags or bugs. Best ROM for spes right now IMO.
Looking forward to seeing this ROM being one of the best out there. Although the rom for this phone hasn't been optimized like I imagined but hoping that it'll be further improved in the future. For now, it's pretty good but not perfect like the way I wanted it to be. Anyways, keep up on the good work!

And it's very stable and fast for me till now. Is it worthy to give it a try with paranoid android. Or should I wait for the final release specially its just a beta!?

Like to try it also. The thing with PA is, beta is pretty stable comparable to most roms stable releases. I guess until kernel sources are released (if ever) crdroid in its general performance shows the limits
So beautiful, almost perfect rom.
Please built ROM without gapps.
Please update shortcut for on/off NFC, like shortcut on/off bluetooth.
And show remaining ram used.
I like this rom
This rom is nice, almost perfect. Almost evrything works according to my usage. Frustratrated of
using mi rom and their security app and coming from a oneplus experience, I had to move to other rom.
As of proprietory camera driver as I understand, I didn't find any camera app to work properly and
I prtend I don't have a camera with this crappy mobile phone.
Now coming to this rom, I found some issues which I am listing below.
Video calling works, tap2wake works and is stable(unlike Xtended, haven't tried crDroid yet)
No secure lockscreen i.e. notification menu on lockscreen is visible
No way to change navigation buttons functionality (i.e. long press & double tap)
No custom navigation panel style.
No display when incoming call (perhaps a bug) at times.
No AOD and no lockscreen clock customization.
Can't install twrp succesfully (The A/B methods are really messy and also fastboot and fastbootd) and I haven't risked anything using magisk.
Don't know if fast charging works(no fast charge visual confirmation).
Only one screen off gesture (double tap), have to long press power button to invoke torch.
But I do appriciate the good work of the developer. I'm using this rom as a daily driver. I haven't checked crDroid or PixelExperience.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on that.
Thank you all. Have a nice day.
I know PA is one of the most popular custom ROM, but I can't seem to find a newer feature list. How does it compare to other ROMs?
I use Pixel Experience Plus as daily driver and recently made a switch, here's my first impression/comparison
Comes with GCam Go instead of the stock camera
4 numbers pin (PE+ makes you press the enter button)
No double back tap
Lock screen by double tapping home instead of quick settings
At a Glace can be turned off
Google search bar can be turned off
Icon and Font customization
Tons of feature flags on Home settings
Recent menu shows Screenshot + Lens option instead of Screenshot + Select
Comes with more GApps then PE+ (YouTube, Drive, Maps, Gmail, etc.)
No option to hide battery icon when percentage is shown. Only option is to show icon, icon + percentage, icon + percentage when charging, or hide everything
The one-handed mode gesture can be used for notification instead
I'd say they both have similar overall feel, with some customization changed in favor of other. PA feels a bit smoother, not sure if that's just my feeling. I wouldn't compare it with crDroid. crDroid adds tons of features and customization while sacrificing the overall looks.
This is my first impression, so I have yet to test the battery and performance. Please let me know if there was any mistake. I'll make an update after using this for a while
Been used PA for 2 days, everything is good no issues so far, i think it smoother than crDroid, need more features such as:
NFC toggle not present
Network/data speed meter in status bar
60 fps contents in Instagram is stuttered, I don't know in other social media platform
While crDroid has a lot of customization but PA is just simple & stable straight to the point, Thanks for your nice work.
The experience has been smooth so far, face unlock and fingerprint feels faster compared to other ROMs. Only bug I've found is that when you create a WebApp shortcut from Chrome and try to uninstall it, Paranoid Launcher immediately crashes

What is Offline Charger?
can i flash miui 12.5.8??? Or which one do you recommend globally?
Read comment below.
Nice rom. Flashed it on my friend's redmi 9t and me and my friend haven't noticed any issues. I used fastboot since most custom recoveries were broken.
Here are some issues and solutions I had(not the rom's fault, just inexperience):
Had to use the --force flag on fastboot since the codename was set to bengal and my friend's was lemon.
Had to install Google's adb and fastboot drivers(https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb) due to windows not detecting fastbootd.
Very good rom and the only one I was able to flash.
can you tell me anything which was include on this rom?
any screenshot?
GApps is included or vanilla?

GApps included.
howdy..
I'm currently running PixelOS based on Android 13, but it has some stupendously annoying issues, including:
screen randomly stops turning on - it vibrates on unlock with my fingerprint, but the screen never lights up. tapping the power button to "turn off the screen" and then unlocking with my fingerprint makes it vibrate again as expected, but the screen still doesn't light up. when this occurs, the "double tap to wake" feature also stops working... only workaround is to hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a reboot.
camera randomly opens when I tap the power button - it has a "short hold" shortcut (half a second? I think?) that launches the camera, but this seems to trigger sporadically when I don't expect it to.
custom launcher randomly thinks it's no longer configured - using Apex Launcher 4.9 pops up a message every day or two to say that it's not the default launcher, while it actually still is.. setting it as my launcher again or simply dismissinng the popup makes no difference at all, the same message will inevitably pop up again in a few days.
I see the "beta 2" changelog mentions "Fixed double tap to wake", which I suspect might be related to my first issue with PixelOS.
so before I go through the fun process of changing Android and setting up all my apps.. again.. has anybody experienced any sort of daily-driver deal breaker issues with Topaz?

No, there doesn't appear to be any daily-driver deal breaker issues with this. The only problem my friend had was no aod, which he solved with an app.

awesomeness.. thanks for the feedback. I don't really care much for AOD, so that's no issue for me.
guess it's time to refresh backups then.
Hi,
Where can i find advanced restart meniu (ex. boot te recovery) and dual SIM ringtone settings?
Thank you.
Is the included kernel good, I`m curious about kernel and average battery drain since support for custom kernels is limited. also , is offline charging fixed? thanks in advance
After a week of use I can say that I am very satisfied with this rom. Leaving aside the small shortcomings (it's beta though), offline charging is working, I recommend this build.
Thank you for this great rom.

any major or minor bugs?,And how is battery life?
Major bugs didn't find, minor advanced restart meniu (ex. boot te recovery) and dual SIM ringtone settings. Battery life, i can't say because i connect a lot my phone to pc (usb cable) also to my car (android auto). I can say with confidence that it lasts almost two days. No reboots, the phone does not freeze as I experienced with other roms.
Can I sideload it using pixelos recovery or pixel experience recovery?
Or what recovery do you prefer for this build
