Best Custom ROM For Huawei GR5 mini (GT3)?? - Honor 5C Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
So I managed to get my hands on a GT5 mini and I'm wondering whats the best ROM for it if there is any that is? I was searching but didn't find any even though I did see that Linenage 14.1 is compatible. But I'm unsure if its the best choice if there exist any other thats compatible or is it my only choice
Model: NMO-L23
Bootloader has already been unlocked and TWRP v3.0.2.0 has been flashed on it as well

Head over HERE. The dev needs testers.

I have the GT3 and it's the same model as your GT5
I think that up to now these models are the same as the GR5 mini, and the GT3 model: NMO-L23. Are the same for what I begin to understand and I still can not make it root.
And I'm on the same looking roms compatible with them.

I have tried, such as:
1. CM 13
2. CM 14 (LineageOS)
3. Asernik N
4. eLite N
5. B191/ B356/ B361 KangV
You can try and find what is the most suitable ROM for you.

Can't really tell.
But if you like something to play around I recommend eLite & Asernik
If wanting original modified one, it is latest B358 KangV from HRT
Stability is stock one sorry I have to say so!

using Arsenik from P9 lite thread and working absolutely fine. yet to check for battery stats but seems pretty stable and better RAM management than stock.

not really. around 500 MB free memory on 5C with 20 apps open. I can switch between them easily and felt no lags. battery is 5+ hours SOT. More than 60 apps installed (apart from preinstalled one)

Bricked GR5 mini
I tried to flash the Linenage 14.1 on my HUAWEI GR5 mini(NMO-L31). It didn't work. I tried to boot the device but it failed. When I tried to flash stock rom on it, accidently it bricked and not booting up. In TWRP recovery mod, a message is shown all the time saying, "NO OS INSTALLED." I send the device to the support center, but they refused to fix it. Now, what can I do to retrive my device?

First, sorry about my english, let me ask you one question? Did you backup entire rom before?
If yes, follow my instruction to return stock ROM: + Restore all of stuff that you backup before.
-STEP 1: download HUAWEI GR5 Mini Firmware, extract, get the Software folder and UPDATE.app file.
- STEP 2: create dload directory in the memory card, copy UPDATE.app file to the above
-Step 3: up rom copied in dload by hard key, after the machine up, will lower to C900B300
(Press 3 Volume up + Volume down + Power at the same time, you have to unplug USB cable, if not working then try to plug USB cable... )
-STEP 4: Download the rom 6.0 you need, and copy it into dload folder (like step 1), after that, go step 3.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hon...model-t3455519
(source: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5c/how-to/roll-to-android-6-android-7-huawei-gr5-t3582525) thanks to tamnguyenuit!
After that, you will stay at android 6.0 Stock ROM and bootloader locked! Just need some time to upgrade to 7.0 via OTA. Goodluck, anything i could help, just ask ^^

I didn't backup the whole system with TWRP
I didn't backup the whole system of HUAWEI GR5 mini. Now, what will I have to do to restore my device from bricked stage?

[ROM] MIUI v7 Developer ROM (5.8.13)

Hi Guys,
In case some people were not able to download MIUI 7 for any reason I have uploaded a download link for it to MEGA. Here is the download, make sure you flash either using Stock Recovery by going Updater> Choose update package or if you have TWRP installed do it using that.
https://mega.co.nz/#!GZcGSLxI!wsTpQ9ahbER4A3mTtcAQTwoWb7xtqwj395lZy-BFA-4
Thanks mate! Great upload.
And It's available on the Chinese download page on the bottom (developer): http://www.miui.com/download-279.html
But not on the English version of the same page.
Thanks for all the hard work

Dev is like beta. You get weekly updates, all the newest features, root access but you might get some bugs
Thanks for answer my friend! DO You have an idea when we can expect stable version for Miui 7? And if you are with dev version, How is your battery life? Is it for real 5.8.13 is on KK? Because mine stable version is on Lolypop?

A little bit yes but not too much, i ll be flashing 5.8.26 later today.
Battery life just keeps on getting better for me, used it more than ever today still no connect to charger.:good:
The only problem with the phone I have is bluetooth calls sometimes not working correctly.
Just an FYI for everyone, I've found that downloading the ROM from Baidu requires that you use Chrome (to avoid creating a Baidu account) and launching in Desktop Mode. Then I've had to set my phone to never turn the screen off. Otherwise, it fails every time. Hope this helps someone else
Where are you finding 5.8.26? The developer rom say 5.8.20 still and the Updater app also.

Im part of the MIUI Beta team so I'm a couple updates in front of everyone.
Just got my Mi Note Pro and had flashed some dev rom and I have some problem.
1. Tried to flash MIUI ROM 5.8.20 and to start with I could not copy the file to my Note Pro, message was "The phone not connected to the PC" (It was), so I used Mi PC suite to copy the the zip file to thr phone storage.
2. Then when I start to install the rom via TWRP the install process just start up, the TWRP shut down and restart.
Anyone who can give some help/solution/explonation, thanks?
I just downloaded and flashed the ROM from my phone, no problems. I used stock recovery.
Thanks, I will try to download direct to my phone and hope it works.

P8 official ota firmware B382 update.

Strange thing is im on B370 and this update is only 244mb big.
I saw the leaked B380 was more than 1.4gb??

youre right, we need to wait, ach, those huawei updates, never ending story... , its android 7 already and we still dont have final fully function marshmallow, unbelievable, and the best of all, we wont even get Nougat
What isn't fully functioning then?
And I'm starting to think that you are very hard to please
I've had Samsung, HTC and Sony phones, but never in 1year I've had so many updates as with this Huawei.

B380 is pretty good actually, i was talking more about overall update experience, many people still dont have marshmallow and are stuck on HORRIBLE lolipop even if they dont have this phone from mobile operator like orange, telekom for example, where its a much longer period of time to get update. Me and you are lucky that we are able to flash every new rom, wether its OTA from someone or leaked beta, but most people are still stuck at B317 or older where are not only bugs, but some functions are missing from B380 (for example more user profiles) this update shoud have been there for about half year and not now, its a bit late i thing considering that it was last year flagship, but thats only my opinion, not to mention that there was not 5.1 android (dont count beta that was never officialy released) so it was bassicaly only launch 5.0 android and update to many unfinished marshmallow updates, pretty bad support i think
PS dont forget we wont get Nougat update
That is your opinion indeed, personally I'm not missing anything. I use it for whatsapp, email, Facebook and Camera and some other apps of course. Only thing is find a bit irritating is battery life. On lollipop I easily got 2 days with 4,5 hours of screen time with Bluetooth and WiFi on all the time. Now I have to charge every night.
Sent from my HUAWEI GRA-L09 using XDA Labs
Yeah, unfortunately looks like this is only available as an OTA from B370 & not B380, which was an incomplete, leaked version.
So, anyone who downgrades from B380 to B370 should be able to get it (in theory anyway).

I have TWRP installed, so I can not flash it via dialer, because each time I ended up in TWRP. What should I do?

In my opinion Lollipop was better - more functional and with much better battery life. I was easily getting abour 3,5-4 hours of screen-on time over even 3 days of use, now I'm getting about 2,5h (up to 3 hours) in one or two days. Marshmallow is rubbish.

Guessing you are on B370:
Extract recovery.img from B370 full UPDATE.APP
Flash recovery.img
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Do OTA update
Enjoy.
Once everything is good flash TWRP
If you flashed a different kernel you have to extract and flash boot.img too before OTA update

I know that, i'm running as my main system though, for me to install windows i'd have to format my HDD which i only have 1 inside the laptop, either i get usb-sata adaptor that's better than what i have right now or my only option is to format to install linux + windows, however.. on a tight budget and specs 500GB might not be enough for me.
So... a friend's computer it is for the meantime

I have just tried it out by myself, so I installed the .apk file (xposed installer) and then you could select the appropriate version and architecture from the available versions in the app (miui, arm64). How to install:
Note: TWRP must be installed, see above for download link.
Note: This is for the AL00 variant, rebranding may be required for ROM to function.
Note: ROM will restart on initial boot, this is due to SuperSU patching the boot.img to prevent the filesystem from being encrypted. If it doesn't boot after the first restart hold power to restart it a second time, should boot without any issues.
1. Head on over to the downloads section and grab the latest version.
2. If you'd like to clean install (recommended) wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system.

FAQ:
Does it work on MHAL29--- ?
Some have reported success. Haven't seen any post saying it hasn't. Flash with a backup and a confirmed working ROM on a external SD Card. -Just to add rebranding may not be required but it is recommended.
If I rebrand do I have to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP again?
Yes. Most importantly when rebranding, you will LOSE all data on your internal storage.
Are the Google Apps preinstalled?
Yes, the core GApps are installed. PlayStore, etc.
What is Xposed Ready?
This means once Xposed is released for Nougat, all you'd have to do is flash it.
What is Decrytped?
This means force encryption is off. TWRP will be able to read all files. You can read more about it in the forums.
How do I flash the Removed Apps zips?
You don't. You take the folder/app you want and stick into app or priv-app then set permissions and reboot.
Can you add Galaxy/whatever other phone there is Apps, Launcher, etc.?
If you wanted a Galaxy, you should've bought a Galaxy phone.
Helpful Tips:
-If you're having trouble with notifications freeze Phone Manager. You'll lose the ability to track battery and data but it is a guaranteed fix. You can do so with an app like Ice Box.
-If you're having trouble removing chinese characters in notification panel or lockscreen go to Advanced Settings and turn off lunar status bar. Advanced Settings > Notification Settings > Show statusbar lunar.
-If you're having issues with Google Play make sure Google Services are NOT disabled. Go to Advanced Settings > More settings > Disable google services.
Workarounds:
-There's some stubborn bloat I'm having trouble removing (especially when installing on an AL00.) It causes no harm just remove them with a system app remover from the play store.

L29 variant probably won't come anytime soon if I'm honest.

OK I'll see how your work grows and maybe I rebrand my Mate and try it.
Hello Ephemera,
First, thanks for keeping up with mate 9 development. Just a question though... What do u mean by Xposed ready? Does it mean that I can install Xposed with this rom? If so, can u please detail the procedure?
Thanks

The goal of this ROM is to rid of any unnecessary apps along with providing a complete Google experience. In the future this ROM will feature an AROMA installer but for now I am looking to squash bugs and make sure its as smooth as possible.

Since it's deodex once Xposed for Nougat is released it can just be flashed.

It means the data partition is not encrypted. So TWRP can read all files.

Rebranding your device changes the variant. For example the L29 and AL00 are practically identical hardware wise but their model number and software differs. You'd have to change your model and software to that of an AL00.

Worst case scenario you reflash RomAur. Make sure you have an extra copy on your external SD Card.
Tried your rom, I would love the following on your rom.
Option to remove all Chinese and the chinese calendar app. I would also like the official Launcher option in this rom.
Thanks

Ok I tried this room on Al00 then I rebranded to L29C636
I can report it works fine. Camera, phone call, 4g all perfect. I have been using it for a couple minutes only so i don't know if there are bugs.
I do want official Huawei launcher though can you send me zip file for that. Going to L29 removed most the the Chinese I wanted to.

All the Chinese apps have been removed on my end. Which ones are still there? Do you know the file paths? I do have a removed apps zip but it is not flashable yet. I can upload soon.

Any idea if OpenKirin is coming to this tablet?

Anyone tried to install OpenKirin?
I'm assuming the images for M5s will not work here.
@OldDroid
 @XePeleato
 @surdu_petru
 @Bloodlvst
 @irony_delerium
Is there a change for the M5 Lite?
I would buy it, if you say that there will be a possibility in the future...
You support already devices with the Kirin 659.
What would happen if i try to install the rom on the device?
(Sry i don't use telegramm (XMPP/matrix...) )
Is the Sourcecode for the M5 Lite available?

It should work (looking it up says it's running EMUI 8) with the caveat that they're all phone-type builds - though that mostly ends up meaning they've got the phone app and such things included which are probably not useful on a tablet.

Thanks for the reply.
Too many Features are better then less Features, isn't it?^^^
Is there a possibillity to test OpenKirin and if it doesn't work set the tablet back to factory reset before sending it back to the merchant?

Make sure you've got a copy of the stock firmware beforehand; all of our ROMs are just the system partition, so if they don't work (or you don't like them), you can flash back the EMUI system partition from the stock firmware and be back on stock. Of course, you've got to unlock the bootloader to install them - and depending on where you're at, that may be reason to not accept the device as a return.

How can i copy it? I Thought you need at least twrp, which would delete the stock recovery?

Firmware finder website.
Instructions for all of it are on the OpenKirin website at https://www.openkirin.net/.
Also, stock recovery is actually preferred - TWRP has it's share of issues on Kirin devices, and we don't support the use of it with an OpenKirin ROM. So you'd want the stock images for that as well, for retrieving the stock recovery.
@irony_delerium I tried flashing OmniROM Pie Alpha 6.2 (for EMUI8) with the instructions posted @ https://openkirin.net/user_guide/how-to-flash-extracted-partition-images/
After flashing and formatting I am stuck on "Your device is booting now", but nothing happens even after +-10 mins
I also tried the last RR but same problem. Then tried flashing an older stock rom version (177) to see if I could get more success from there, but that also wouldn't boot.
Flashed back to my original stock rom version now (277), which works fine after formatting data.
I'm using a Mediapad M5 Lite BAH2-W19 8.0.0.227 (OCEC432)
Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Since B218 there is no possibility to downgrade via DLOAD anymore. So the current situation is: No more custom ROMs for M5 lite.

I've installed it and using it since October and I can tell it's working very good. The only bug is the offline charge that doesn't work. You need to charge the tablet when is on. I recommend you to install it.
