[Q] MODS for the H831 Canadian Variant? [NO ROOT] - LG G5 Themes, Apps, and Mods

So I thought I'd post some mods for us using the unrootable LG G5
So far I've used
System UI Tuner:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner&hl=en
LG V10 Hidden Settings:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=you.love.v10.hidden.settings&hl=en
Considering there's a lack of good dark theme's for the LG G5, I'm using Atomic UI for anyone who is interested
You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/themes/hs-premium-theme-support-feedback-lg-g5-t3556838
and here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=theme.ideadesigns.AtomicUi&hl=en
Looking to see if anyone else has apps they have used to mod or change their unrootable experience
Cheers:good:

Hey!
I don't think there's much for us poor non-rooted G5 users, but I finally found something that disables all the LG/carrier bloat that is installed as system apps.
It's a paid app, but I can verify that it works and is worth trying out. Worst case just get a refund if it doesn't work, but its working for me on Stock Nougat.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgpd.pmanager&hl=en

Use this app seems to disable/remove bloatware without root PACKAGE DISABLER FOR lg MOBILE, found at play

Great thread topic, it's hard to love these phones but they can be alright without root. Here are a few apps I've found very useful after enabling write permissions through ADB:
System2
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sp
Tiles
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
Nougat Quick Settings
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.simonesestito.ntiles
AutoTools
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autotools
Velis Auto Brightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.velis.auto.brightness
If you use Nova Launcher then Open Sesame is also a must have
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ninja.sesame.app.edge
---------- Post added at 09:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 AM ----------
These apps can be found free in the Play Store from time to time:
Blue Light Filter Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.snowlife01.android.bluelightfilterpro
Equalizer FX Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer
RAM Booster Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atejapps.taskkillerextreme
And this one is just cosmetic:
Cornerfly
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flyperinc.cornerfly
I'd love to hear of any other apps people are using to customize their phones!

[ROM]22/06/2012 DianXin OS (DX ROM) ICS | GB ROM *Smooth* *Stable* *Great UI*

I am not its developer , but however i am moderator in its official forum and may act as representative here around XDA for DianXin ROM.
so i can't answer all doubts or something , but however i will relay your problem , your doubts , your suggestions , your ideas or anything you wanna say about this ROM to its developer.
about update , it has update every 2 weeks ,in friday (one week for stable version such as 2.3.7 , other week for test version as 4.0.3 for some devices), but i have a job that 08:30 AM to the 09:00 PM, basically i am outta of home all day.
download and upload take about 6 hours , so i can not finish it until saturday evening. but you can use "system update" app to update
============================
before i start anything , please take look at this nice presentation video.
(thank Flow-Wolf so much for this video)
this is not double of first one ...
(thank jozef710i so much for this video)
these 2 videos were recorded in HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire, which are still in 2.3.7 , but for us Nexus S has ICS ROM
====================================================
if you see any untranslated, chinese part/app or anything , please point out where or what app is it ,it would be best if you post a screenshot , so it can be translated.
thanks
====================================================
i know you guys may think it looks like MIUI , but i assure you it's totally different ROM nor MIUI-based modification , and if you have time , please read first pages of all these kind people's reports and feelings about this ROM.
what i think is , every and any ROM is like child to all of us in Android community , and please don't think it is bad or ugly or whatever negative expression you can think of , because nothing is perfect , as MIUI , it is now 71 weeks old , and this one is only 3 weeks old, and for now , MIUI 4.0 does have problems and bugs as well as this one, it has some problems or bugs, but that's how all ROM start, right ?
we are just like bunch of daddies (mommies) here , to help developer to raise (improve) thier child (ROM) , they need you help and report!

DX ROM introduction translated as requested (this translation almost got me killed -_-!!! be honest , i don't know what i am saying now...)
点心 (Dian Xin) in chinese, when put these 2 words together it means small food like cake or snack , in this case related with Android (cupcake, donut, eclair, froyo, gingerbread, honeycomb and ice cream sandwich), but , when separates them , the first word means "target" or "aim" , and second means "heart"
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and put them together also can be explained "aimed/targeted your heart" (don't get me wrong , doesn't mean wanna shoot you )
it means design and make ROM to do/be what you want, what you prefer.
Based on ASOP 4.0.3
Seek high quality, make it an useful, utility ROM
Take account of both users experience and performance, let users joy using thier device.
Product characteristic

it's completely another ROM , and this group (company) is more like competitor to MIUI , sure it looks like MIUI , that's because you knew MIUI first , if you know this first and then look back at MIUI , you will feel MIUI looks like this one .
by all means ... these good UI or apps or whatever , always you copy me , i duplicate him , he makes clones from someone else ...brah brah brah ...
so don't be suprised if you see it familiar
Looks like this has an actual app drawer instead of all apps being on the homescreens permanently.
Is it able to get that wheather widget only? Looks really nice.

Just tried a bit (not activated G Account yet).
While the icons might look MIUI-ish, the settings and apps that come with the ROM are surely different. Also some of the apps are highly customized and allow deep control of your device.
Some elements are typical asian, like business card feature being #4 in the communications app (calls, contacts, texts, business card).
/EDIT:
Calendar, gallery, cam, GMail/Mail apps are not customized.
Restarting after initial installation = no more network as the APN list is not covering countries outside China - just a guess.
Miui?
Are you sure that it is not MIUI....If it is not...i am a happy guy. I was tired of all the roms being of Cyanogenmod and Miui. Also how are the updates? Like how MIUI have updates every Fridays and they have OTA updates, could those be made for this rom as well. After you reply me back with my answer i will download and flash. Also, you say matr1x will work best. Is the rom stable? Could i overclock it? Does any apps have issues with this rom. What launcher is it using. Is it more FUN to use than MIUI? Bottom line, if it is more intuitive to use than MIUI, it will get updated fast and is original and stable...you could call this my new favourite rom.

that's lots questions .... = =
yes, i am sure this is not MIUI,
how updates, i don't know yet , as far as i saw in its forum , the date was 16/12 , 23/12 , 04/01 , looks like aprox. every 10 days or so ...
acutally it wasn't me who says matr1x , what kernel you like , you flash it , i flashed GlaDos ...
overclock depends on your kernel
force close problem , well ,i just new to this and just flash it same time as i post this , so i don't know anything yet , but considered this is new and test , so don't use it as your daily ROM for now.
it didn't say exactly which model ,but they are 9020A 9020T 9023 in China , so i guess it's for all these models. my phone is 9023.
=======
oh yeah , how stupid i was there is official english website and i just translated it so hard ...
Doesn't matter which version a ROM is made for as long as it's not for the 4G (NS4G).
Working fine on my i9023.

Black Theme Android/Apps

Hello,
I tried to find Dark/Black themes for Z3 Compact which could theme settings, calendar, contacts and a lot of other apps but without success.
I also tried some Xposed module for theming but all of them were not working
I would like something really close to the one made by @Rajeev (dark and blue) like here
Or something like eXistenZ from @niaboc79 like here
Sadly his rom is not working on our Z3 Compact
I am currently using Slimm 3.1 Rom from @Wajk
If someone could help me, i will be really greatful :laugh:
I also tried Substratum theme engine, and Layers manager but the apps doesn't start then FC ?

You should flash something about the Layers you can't directly use it AFAIK, also I don't know any other way than Layers on MM to edit the apps as you requested. Even with Layers, it is very risky, it might screw your system up, make sure to have a back-up! When it comes to eXistenZ, it is a highly customized ROM so don't compare it with stock
Substratum works for MM. I've mixed a few of the best free, cheap and quality themes I've tested. Theming quality varies and compatibility can be inconsistent. Takes some time to test. But I've done that so can share. I'll list in order of quality preference. That way you choose the priority theme's overlays when there are duplicates.
Material Glass is a free unique dark theme. Has transparency to wallpaper throughout and for pop ups. Can use all of them. Don't like it's XDA labs though. Also has two bugs if using it's Android System, volume slider hides foreground app and keyboard switcher reboots device.
Swift Black is a cheap quality pack still in active development and updating to substratum. Pretty much all of it's overlays are great except Chrome's window heading clashes. It's Systemui and Android System are standouts priority above Material Glass the latter only because of prior mentioned bugs.
InversionUI is a good free pack. Not as good as Swift Black but if preferring free can be a close replacement. For example it's play store ratings colour clashes white. Google calendar, catlog and news & weather are unique to it. Calendar status bar icons clash black, but using white icons and clock changing in gravitybox is a workaround.
Dark Material free from play store for it's unique facebook and instagram. Substratum itself only seems to black with this one.
These have YouTube which is just it's setting menu aparrently and eBay just it's notification. I think Android System overlays clash black text in Sony's messaging, I just swapped to using Google's Messenger instead.
They're actually the best combo. I tried some others but had no results or crashes. Haven't tested all as these fill everything already. Can't complain with the results!
edit: for posterity's sake using xposed mod Qs X tiles per row can help theme notifications colours. Also xposed mod LPThemer works on MM: under it's Status bar tab, enabling notification text colour can change notification button text colours.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! That is really helpful. I'd like to ask for more info, e.g. you meant those themes↓?
• Swift Black (Play Store says Z3C is not compatible )
• InversionUI
• Dark Material (Play Store says Z3C is not compatible )
Have you tried AospUI Black od AospUI Dark?

This information is a little old so some things don't function anymore. Development for Substratum has moved onto OMS and older legacy support is discontinued. Some app updates have broken overlays too. I'm using two Z3C's, one on LineageOMS 14.1 which uses a new different mixed combination of packs including the old legacy Material Glass. The old MM stock I've just stopped using an overlay when it breaks.
Yes that's Swift Black, they stopped updating legacy awhile ago. Maybe if you can purchase I can provide the original last updated v8.7 APK to use. Yes, that's InversionUI, but I don't use any of it anymore. Dark Material has the package name com.chummy.darkmaterial_layers, I don't use it anymore. I haven't tried that, I just use my old stock MM as a backup so not changing things there unless needed. I just keep my LineageOMS 14.1 updated currently.
If might help so this is how my old remaining MM is set up:
Material Glass v3.2 old 3.2 for how the theme accent is preferred white still before it was changed to grey
- Android System (Use GravityBox to set media tweaks, volume panel timeout to 1 second to help with the overlay bug. Can use Tasker with Secure settings plugin to create a Keyboard switcher to get around the crashing default selector)
Material Glass v3.4 beta One of the last betas from the github
- Tags, Trusted Face, Phone Call Management, Google Play Store, GravityBox, eBay, Translate, Google, GBoard, Package Installer, Kernel Adiutor, Instagram (old version)
Material Glass v3.4 I think these were just apps I installed later so I used the latest and last release
- Messages, Android System WebView
Swift Black
Calendar, Google Text-to-speech, Hangouts, Keep, MX Player, Media Storage, Messenger Lite, News & Weather, Phone Services, Skype, VLC, Viber
I kept a note of when an overlay stopped working in case I needed to reinstall after a clean ROM. I had DocumentsUI and Gmail removed from Material Glass. I had Docs, Drive, Google Play Store, Phone Call Management, Translate and eBay removed from Swift Black. Of course I haven't tested everything and theres apps I don't have too, but that's what works for me and can be used as a guide.

Sorry, I haven't had Z3c for over 5 years... I don't think those files exist anymore. You can use Apktool right on the phone to mod your system apps. That's mainly how I did everything.
One of my favorite phones, though. If Sony did more updates, I might still have it.

Is their any way to make the notifications all black everything I find either requires root or only makes the shortcuts black but not the notifications.

I was wondering the same
Anyway someone can post a pick of the three different ones? I would prefer to see if I’m interested before I change everything because I’m only doing this to get the black notifications. I already use Nova and a specific icon pack. So I’m a fan of a dark theme, but with my stuff over it and I don’t want to redo everything unless I know I’m on the right path. It looks like there is no way to change third party apps. Since I use Google calendar and Chrome, I don’t believe there is a way to make those black/dark, unless someone is aware of one. I also got very tired on how slow Samsung’s email app is so I switched to another that I think is fantastic, but again can’t change it’s background. I have a lot of emails and there all on my phone and when I get a new one it’s not just the subject and who it’s from, it’s the actual email immediately. Samsung’s email app takes so long to go. If I change the longevity on how many emails I want on my phone it can make the new emails show up somewhat quicker, but my new app is in a blink of an eye. Hope for some guidance. Also any Nova users have any issue with swipe action to add a contact and getting “Permission Denied”? It worked fine on the LG V20 as well as other Samsung phones in the past, but not this. I think it’s because Nova won’t allow me to enable permissions for Contacts. I know this is in wrong area, but I figured someone still might know tha answer and might have advice that would be very much appreciated? It’s easier for me to put this in 1 place because of some health issues.
Here's the red one. Does anyone know a way of Turning Bixby home black?
I think the root version if one exists allows the writing to be white , whereas the ones Grant was kind enough to post shows the fonts as grey and some find it difficult to read /view.

Yeppers, for layers and substratum you need to reboot. If you decide you don't want it menu>settings>apps>uninstall and reboot.
Does anyone know if there's an overlay that keeps the System UI Blue or Red but keeps the notifications white? I'm currently using the Red system UI overlay which I love but the notifications are just too dark and don't want to up my brightness to see them.
I saw someone who had dark notifications with white writing. He can't figure out how he did it. He is not rooted he is on SD version.

Unless it's part of a theme it can't be white unless you're rooted. Here's a theme you can bake it anyway you want with dark notifications and white text.

Hello! I've been going around XDA looking for everything I can get to get as close as possible to Samsung's One UI, the new design language to be released alongside the Android Pie update. As most Samsung users may know the beta for Android Pie and One UI has been released for the Galaxy S9 and S9+, but not for any of the 8 models. Because of this I went on a search to skin my UI to the point that it might as well be One UI. (Aside from all the apps, unfortunately.)
I'm going to make a list including links to everything I've used to get to this point.
Before we get started, to install most of these leak apps, you'll need App Cloner, which is unavailable in the Play Store, so I've provided a download for the App Cloner I have. After installing this, we can get to the interesting stuff.
A reminder that all of this requires NO ROOT.

Mod Edit: Link removed
First off, we've got the most obvious (and easiest) one. Samsung Experience Home 10. This one just requires an app cloner install, fortunately though, XDA has already done that for us right here https://www-xda--developers-com.cdn....com/download-samsung-experience-10-launcher/
A big thanks to them for getting the cloning process over with. After downloading the apk file they've provided simply install it, clear the cache/data and set it as the default launcher. You should end up with something like the screenshots. I recommend the Home Screen Grid to be set to 4x6, and the App Screen Grid to whatever you like. I kept it large to have less pages to go through when searching for apps. I set the grid to 4x6 to further match the render from the One UI apps section on the samsung website.

Is there anyway to import your Home Screen setup from the old Samsung Experience?
Now we have the clock tweaks. This one will require substratum, so if you'd rather not dive into that stuff then feel free to skip this one. Substratum is free but Andromeda is paid so I've included my Andromeda apk.
The first one we'll want is called clock tweaks by @AL_IRAQI. Head over to this page to download it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/themes-apps/mod-center-left-clock-o-t3614824/
You'll want to select and install Left Clock under clock placement in System UI. This will give us the clock on the top left in the status bar, rather than the top right. The next tweak we'll need is called System Mods by Draco. In addition to what we'll be using this tweak offers various other changes, so I suggest you check some of those other ones out. You can get that here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=substratum.draco.systemmods You'll want to install Remove Status Clock AM PM under System UI to remove the AM/PM next to the time. This one is purely optional, but it matches better the One UI render.
A trick I learned from another member named @dj_iiml is to uninstall all tweaks before rebooting as instructed, and then reinstalling them. Reboot after this and the overlays will stay even after a reboot. I also got the clock tweaks info from his thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/themes/note-8-one-ui-look-how-to-t3867346

Unfortunately, I don't think so. Simply because the system doesn't see them as the same apps. I'll look into it and see what I can do.
Let's move on now to Pie system apps. Email, Calculator, Notes, Samsung Browser, Samsung Health and weather are the only ones I've gotten to work besides the launcher. Email, Calculator, Notes, Samsung Health, and the browser can all be installed from apkmirror, but the weather app needs to be downloaded from a ported dump and cloned. https://mega.nz/#F!j5pGSa4Z!wmDI6Ozacrq4yNBl4WlNgQ This is a link to the entire dump, if you want to experiment with other apps, otherwise https://mega.nz/#F!j5pGSa4Z!wmDI6Ozacrq4yNBl4WlNgQ!2th2TALZ is a link to the Weather app only. Just press open in browser to access them. Once you've downloaded the weather app, clone it in App Cloner, install it, and then manually allow all the permissions via settings, you CAN'T allow permissions through the app itself. You can then add a widget to the home screen. It will be the second weather option, because you'll have 2 weather apps. Credits to @corsicanu for the ported files, their original post is here https://forum-xda--developers-com.c...sung-pie-leaked-apps-ported-to-t3856098/page1
Finally we'll apply all the Good Lock 2018 changes. First you'll need Good Lock 2018 from Galaxy Apps. Once you have it downloaded there are 2 apps you'll need to download from inside the app. TaskChanger & LockStar.
First we'll use LockStar to edit the lockscreen. Pick any background you like, and any layout you like, because we'll be changing the layout in a bit. Once you have everything you want, including the clock, you'll want to tap Edit at the top right and arrange the clock and notification bubble like the screenshot below. After you've done this select the plus icon at the bottom right/left of the lock screen and pick what apps you want to be accessible from the lockscreen. Once you've done all this, go ahead and save & apply the lockscreen.
Now we'll move to TaskChanger. Switch it to 'In Use' and then select the scroll effect. I chose linear, but you can pick whichever one you like. Now switch 'Blur Background Effect' on. Now you're all set. You've finally gotten as close to Pie as possible before it's official release. If anyone has any suggestions for other apps or changes to make it even closer to One UI then write it in a reply. In my next post I'll write more optional, less important features that don't get you too much closer to One UI. Thanks for reading this thread and I hope all went well,
Cheers,
RSLPride
LESS IMPORTANT TWEAKS
ClockFace - Good Lock 2018
Clockface provides a few more options for the clocks on the Always On Display and lockscreen. None of them are the stock One UI clocks, but you might find them a little more similar to the One UI clocks.
One Handed Operation + - Galaxy Apps
One handed operation + provides gesture navigation, a feature that will be in One UI. The only problem? The bars are on the sides. This is the only reason I've included this in less important tweaks. In One UI the bars will be on the bottom of the screen, replacing the Navigation Bar.
Battery Percentage - Settings
In setting you can turn off the battery percentage under Display > Status Bar in Settings. It gives a cleaner Status Bar look, but it isn't required.
Search Bar - Google
Make sure you have the latest beta for the Google App installed, then go to the more tab in the app and select 'Customize Widget' select the color palette and then select the Black G on top of white. Then go back and select what looks to be a multi-colored water droplet, and then move the slider all the way to the left or to See Through. This will give your Google Search Bar on the home screen a more One UI look, but it isn't needed to sell the look.

[MOD][ROOT][MAGISK]Bottom round corners FIX for Android 10 Stock ROM

This is a simple, but effective, Magisk Module that:
Fixes the bottom round corners (makes them fully rounded with no more pixelized stuff down there...check how they are now before applying this mod...you'll see that ugliness)
Disabled rounded corners on floating windows (which makes all windows transitions 100x times faster and also avoids the ugly bug that appeared when the rounded corners were fixed)
Removes WiFi with numbers icons
Changes default accent color to Pixel blue
Makes the dark theme black on Settings
This is just like a Pixel Theme but without all Pixel features present on the Pixel Theme.
The module is on the attachments.
Hope you enjoy it.
Cheers!

Well, those features are on the Pixel Theme for Android 10. Not only that but also other cool features. If you want, instead of using this "mini" module you could opt for using the Pixel Theme.
On the other hand, stock ROM has other colors included. You can change them on Developer settings, if you want.
