Proximity sensor turn on when mobile data is active - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Hello,
Anyone knows why the proximity sensor turns on when data is used (the arrows near Wi-Fi turn on) and turns off when the data stops being used?
Maybe a software bug? I'm using stock 7.1.1 with no root.

The arrows are your network activity, they just show when data is being sent or received.

Yeah, I know that. Sorry for my bad English, but you don't understand want I want
When data is being sent or received I can see the proximity sensor working (a red light pulsing near notification led). When the arrows go away (the data stop being used), the proximity sensor also stops.
Also I have adaptative brightness turned on.

Sorry I misunderstood you buddy, I have had this phone for 10 months and have never noticed it until now :silly:. There's no setting available to edit the proximity sensor so I guess we are stuck with it. Thanks for pointing it out. :good:

How to turn on auto turn off during call

I checked the power settings(I set it off after 1 Min),but the phone display is on during calls. It's on for 6-7 mins, not turning off. What to do? Please rep ASAP
Just press the power button on the top of the phone, and it will turn the screen off. Well thats what i do any way. Try it out
Dont hold it for to long otherwise the phone will turn off, just give it a quick press!
Download XperiaTweak v2.0
Hi,
I have the exactly opposite problem. I have installed XperiaTweak (current version) and enabled the option "Disable Screen Turning Off during calls", but it's still turning off after a minute (like the normal standby settings...).
Do you know the registry key etc. for that feature so that I can check the settings?
regards
Nils
Whats most retarded is why we can't have what the iPhone ALREADY does...
the Xperia X1 has a front facing (near your ear) light sensor. It should turn the screen off when it is next to your ear, and turn it on when you move it away from your ear... JUST LIKE HOW THE iPHONE DOES IT.
I mean, something this simple... why hasn't it been implemented?
Think about it. Why put the light sensor near the ear then? When not put it on the side or something? because obviously someone thought that, well, when the phone is near the ear, it will go from light to immediate darkness, and when moved away, dark to light.
Why cant we have somethign this simple? Or anyone know of a workaround or third party app?

The X1 as you probably know has no light sensor or accelerometer, so there is no way to interpret when the phone is at your ear or otherwise.
FingAZ.

Actually, it does have a light sensor. What else do you think automatically adjusts the screen's brightness? This really is an ingenious idea, can someone cook up an app that runs in the background to do this?
I want to have light during call all time I tray Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 and did not find nathing no option on battery display or call thet will keep my back linght on durring call some idea?
And the touch pro 2 does have the feature to turn off screen when you put it to your ear. Devs?
I hate how when I'm on skype on the phone and the screen dims, cutting off my wifi.

Use Advance Configuration Tools to fix this by enabling Wifi during standby.

Stop phone from turning on when rotated on side during phone call?

My GF and I are very annoyed at this problem. When you tilt the phone on it's side, lik eholding it with your shoulder the phone will turn on. It just so happens that your phone's mute button will be on your cheek and we mute each other.
Is there anyway to stop this? Thank you guys in advance.
Are u sure u are not "uncovering" the light proximity sensor when u tilt it. Its very sensitive, and I have noticed it get turned on when the phone gets an inch or more away from ear exposing the light sensor to any form of light.
While on the phone with my girlfriend at night this happens a lot. Because it is so dark, any movement I do will cause the screen to turn on and I have to hit the button to turn it off.
Just try vto keep it glued to your face :/

Yeah I'm sure. The feature is suppose to be for when you set the phone on your desktop the screen will turn on so you can hit speaker or end the call.

Umm simple work around, get something opaque and stick it over the light sensor with something that won't leave a residue so you can take it off when your call is over?
obviously some people fail to understand how this works. there is a light sensor for screen brightness and a proximity sensor. it is the proximity sensor that detects your face and turns off the screen. the light sensor is not involved in this process. what is happening is that the i9000 roms have default android 2.2 settings that force the proximity sensor to be ignored in certain orientations, i dont know about the new att updates but the 2.1 roms had the overrided from samsung. i tried to fix it in tasker but tasker lacks the option to power off the screen, it can go to lock screen instead which may be acceptable for some. there may be a different way to do this in tasker but i need to experiment more.
there is no external workaround for this as it is not the proximity sensor being uncovered that causes most problems but the phones orientation. any workaround or fix must be done with software or a change in a file somewhere.
I am sorry, and have been humbled •_•

This is correct. In simple terms the orientation sensor takes presidence over the proximity sensor. So if you turn the phone on its back while on the phone, the screen will turn on.
There are no fixes for it that I'm aware of.
How abt keeping auto-rotation off all the time, and turning it on only when needed, as a work around?

It's not linked to auto-rotation unfortunately, Its just something that we have to live with.
Man... wish there could be one but sounds like there can't be.

Need help samsung galaxy s proximity sensor not working

I need help with identifying the problem why my proximity sensor isnt working. This gets annoying because my phone turns the screen off when making a call and you can turn it back on since it thinks something is all the time in front of it. Is it maybe dust? On which side is the sensor located? Is there any software update for a proximity sensor?
If I type in *#*#0588#*#* that runs the proximity sensor test. The screeen goes green, vibrates and stays on 1 all the time( doesnt flick between 1 and 0 if I i move it). What can I do?
I've got a problem with mine aswell. It is always 0 in the test (it can't sense if i put anything over it).
It use to work but suddenly sort of died. I'm not sure what the problem is too but I would like a fix if anyone can come up with one
Funny thing though, my proximity sensor worked fine for 1 call this afternoon, but failed again soon after. :/
Looks like this is one big riddle for the samsung galaxy users. :/
I made a discovery.. If i shone a bright light on my sensor and held it really close to it (like 0.5-1cm away) then the proximity sensor would react and say something is covering it. Only works with a bright light though :/
How bright is that light? May I ask you what are the other 3 values of your sensors?

hmm it was the flash from my digital camera. I think any decent light would work. Try a torch, if that doesn't work try something a bit brighter.
As for the values, which 3 values do u mean?? sorry
Light, magnetic, accelerometer.
Which rom do you have?

oh, the values for accelerometer work fine, the xyz values react as they should when i move the phone.
Light sensor goes as high as 15000 lux when I shine the light on it.
Magnet sensor: 2 and the xyz change and react as they should. same with Azimuth Pitch and Roll.
As for the rom, I'm on darky's 10.1 Extreme Edition
As I thought my light sensor is also faulty. It goes only from 0-22lux
My solution

I don't know if this helps, I had a similar problem.. After i made a call my screen would not auto turn back on for me to disconnect the call.
It may have been coincidence, but after i disconnected "Increase volume in pocket", everything started working properly again.

Sorry, I should had given this information. This happened on a S4 (I9505) android version 4.2.2.
I don't know if this particular phone has the same menus has mine, but its how i solved my problem.
Having this issue too.
Nothing mentioned so far has worked for me.
Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 on VZW running 4.2.2.
Unfortunately I don't know when it started so I can't pinpoint any apps as possible triggers. However I have tried out all sorts of apps status bar apps, active notifications apps, launchers (Apex is my current now)

Always on Display dims, but doesn't turn off in pocket

did anyone notice the Always on Display dims, but doesn't turn off when turned face-down or put in your pocket?
Yes and looks as though that is how it will always be now. I read an article about how they did proximity sensor on this phone. The process sensor causes a white light to blink when it's on so it is only used when on a call.
Wait ... So the ALWAYS ON display is on ALWAYS and that's a problem??? Hmmmm
Try Gravity Screen.

Yea, I was looking into this. The "behind the glass" proximity sensor isonly on when in calls etc. You'l see it's on by the flashing white dot near the battery icon when in a call etc. All other times it seems it's off. So AOD is always on as it doesn't use the proximity sensor any longer.
Really stupid on their part.

I agree, Also I used the lift to call when in a persons sms thread in the stock messages app, now that does not work either because of this.... I can't find an option to turn it on. Never had an option on my prior galaxys as it just worked...

Yes because I want it always on WHEN I CAN SEE IT, not when it's in my pocket.

Have you tried it for this case?
This sucks... Only way I understand this it's that they decided that AOD and proximity sensor always on consume almost the same amount of battery.
I cover the proximity sensor on s9+ and turn off AOD in 30sec and then i try that on my s10+ and nothing happened and for now i turn it off because is all the time active.
Screen On In Pocket
My phone doesn't arrive until tomorrow so I have no report but, I am wondering if anyone has noticed accidental screen on in pocket or seen a setting to prevent. Older Galaxy phones had a setting to prevent this which relied on proximity sensor.

Accidental touch is still an option on the S10, i have mine enabled but it never turns AOD off. It doesn't work like before. I'm hoping they can fix this as its getting on my nerves that I have to keep disabling AOD when leaving in my bag else it'll stay on wasting battery for nothing.

So basically if I use a wallet folio case then then AOD doesnt turn off when I close the cover?
What would be causing this?

Probably need to be connected with proximity sensor but this time is under the screen who knows.
I just ran the Samsung inbuilt test *#0#* , there is no test under Sensors for the proximity sensor for this model, if I'm not mistaken other Galaxy devices did have this specific sub test under Sensors test menu

question about notification LED

So I bought this phone yesterday, stock and no third party app. did a factory reset inserted the simcard and recieved a sms. when screen was off, a green small notification was blinking on left upper part of screen (something like what third party apps like aodnotify do but it was better). I was amazed that samsung finally did something to fill the void of an actual notification Led. but after my second factory reset (after a 450 mb update) the feature was gone!!
I searched every where for it. tried different settings in Aod and edge light and... nothing
can anyone explain this to me? could it be an experimental feature on my stock firmware that was removed from latest update?
thanks in advance
I don't understand it either. I don't have it on screen off but I have it when I charge the phone or answer a call. Weird behavior.
That's being used as a proximity sensor I believe to turn the screen on and off during calls. It might also disable the screensaver/always on mode if the phone is face down.
thanks for the answers.
Edit: that's the proximity sensor as you said which lights up during calls, but I don't know why it was lighting up when there was no app running and the screen was off. odd behavior! perhaps accidental touch detection was acting incorrectly.
