Is there a root for LG G6 T-Mobile version yet? - T-Mobile LG G6 Questions & Answers

I'm been searching for a while, but can't seem to confirm if there's any legit root yet. I'm not an expert user or a dev., so I would need something that's fairly easy to follow.

no

So I'm safe to sell my G6 right? Doesn't look like root is coming this way

Yeah man, if you are looking for a phone to root then the G6 H872 is not the one T.T. Still a great daily driver to have for under $450.

I jumped on a V20 a little after getting the G6 and rooted it. Overall I feel like the old V10 was the last great phone LG produced

Pssshhh. Got 2 for $500 with 2 projectors and 2 sers of B&O H3 earbuds. Not a bad deal.
But yea no root. So I'll be jumping to the V30 ASAP. Hopefully they don't block fastboot out again!

I feel like root is coming soon. Give it some more time.

Lets hope there is root. Although im not exactly happy that H872 isn't rooted (my current driver), it is still a stellar device especially given the price. Can often pick it up for over 40% cheaper than an S8 BRAND NEW lol.
Been holding a bit of a rant in me for a while buuuut lets be honest, neither the S8 nor Pixel rooted/unrooted are faster than the iphone 7/8. It's processor, and optimization is waaaay ahead of snapdragon and atop of having waaaaay faster NVME memory. So if you are looking for the fastest phone, then simply buy an iphone lol. Root gives all sorts of very interesting functionality which is mainly what i would assume everyone on XDA wants to explore . Sigh but that exynos and quad dac. Wish us peasant American carrier's can get those.

DAMN! Just bought a new G6 for just saw there's no root. How is that possible still?!! Tried flashing the TWRP for the international G6 but kept failing. I am going to keep it for a while - hopefully root will show up somehow.

Yeah I'm trying to get root and or twrb built

I've made my decision....

I have both the G4 and the S6, as you may or may not know the S6 is unlockable and has had root for a while now. Despite that, I have decided to keep my G4, the potential locked in this phone is way too much to give up on. Odd thing is, the G4
doesnt seem to have had its radios tweaked or optimized, the S6 is a touch faster both on WiFi and LTE. The downside is
the bloat ball called touchwiz. It's choppy and eats a TON of ram. UX 4.0 is far and away better. As far as the cameras go, the
camera on the G4 is faster at getting locked in on what i'm shooting, but when zoomed in, the picture almost looks like an
oil painting. Once we do eventually get the G4 unlocked, I hope we get a camera mod much like the one I had for the G3.
I'm also looking forward to viper4android, that's definitely a must have for Google music imo. Anyway, hopefully we'll get
our beasts unlocked soon.
I agree totally. I had the s6 for a while. It has some awesome features and the camera is great, but it always was buggy and the ram issue was horrible. The G4 may not be perfect but I am enjoying it a lot more than my s6.

I concur with both of you. I had the S6 Edge and sold it for the G4. I'm just surprised we not only don't have root yet, but that there hasn't really been any direct talk of if anyone is close. That is a big concern to me. From my experience, there are usually folks chatting about their progress (or lack thereof). Anyway, love the device so far....

i agree too on going with the G4, i sold my nexus 5 and got the G4 before i even checked in here to see if it was rootable/unlockable yet
and the reason no one is talking about it is that so many people come in here complaining about no root or not being able to unlock their phone yet, but it is being worked on and in fact the devs doing it have unlocked carrier phones (from what i have seen), they are just working on a way to make it easy for the general public to do it and to make sure there is a way back or at least a way to not brick your phone. plus LG is on here too so there isnt much chatter here so that LG doesnt patch what they are working on before they can even get it out to us
it will come i am sure of it
Me too, i find this to be this first device i could use without root, i would still rather have it than not, but i could own this phone long term without it. Glad to see a positive note and people having the same experience i am with the phone. I also was a former S6 owner, my wife has it now so i can really check them out side by side and its no contest, and thats with my wife on a custom rom.
I was thinking how far phones have come since I got my first Android phone back in 2012 (Mytouch 4G Slide) Some great ROMS on that old thing. I moved on up to a Nexus 4 from that. The so called professional review sites claim that the differences between the S6 and G4 cameras are so small that it's hard to pick a clear cut winner, but I tell you, the only flaw in the G4's camera is the over sharpening. The S6's camera software kinda sucks, the viewfinder looks grainy and the pictures aren't any better. The ram issue sealed it for me, the darn thing has 3gb of ram available, how does T/W use that much?
Wow, so sad to see no progress on root and twrp. I bought this device thinking I was getting the "full" flagship experience.

define full flagship experience?
[soapbox]
and just because no one is posting about it doesnt mean no one is working on it. give it time, dang, the phones only been out for 2 and a half months. thats the problem with xda these days, we are so hellbent on having root and being unlocked so we can void our warranty and flash firmware to our expensive devices for what? so we can say "hey look i unlocked my phone and flashed CM on it, take that LG, now my phone is not near as good as it was when i bought it"

Love the phone but the jank is really starting to get to me. Picked up my N5 today and was shocked at how much smoother it was than my G4
Hi all, jumped the Sammy ship after some 3.5 years using Galaxy devices (latest was a S4). It's actually the first time I get a flagship almost when it's been released, and so far this phone seems like a great device. I'm not looking for custom ROMs yet, root would be nice, but as it stands it's an awesome Android flagship.

Glad to see some people are not afraid to state the truth. I have a g4 s6 nexus 5 and oneplus one now and the g4 is the slowest. Just sits on my desk. Is funny how oneplus one and nexus 5 feel way faster than the s6 and g4.

Same here. My One Plus is smoother and faster . Rooted Zmax is faster . Love the form factor of the G4 ,but text and mms issues are starting to annoy me to no end....
Because the N5 use stock android, the biggest advantage of the G4 is much longer battery life. For me it's matter because the battery on Nexus is non-swapable and battery life is not good.

Left the note 4 because of the crap camera taking forever to focus and the gps that never could find a signal. At first i thought i made a mistake because of the lag i was getting before updating to the new N update and i am not looking back. The g4, at its 479 price point is a monster

Nothing yet... I'm not ready to get rid of my N4 just yet, and nothing available/just announced is more appealing atm. If I was into small screens however, the LG G5 would be so hard to resist. The more that I've read about it in the last couple days, the more impressed I am. Not sure if you read much about it, but check out the last few pages of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/general/glad-note-4-samsung-screws-note-line-t3157384 where I was reading up on it, and posted a few times after coming across some details about the device that were just too killer to keep to myself!
I'll probably be looking at new phones around when the N6 comes out. I'm really hoping that LG puts out a bigger brother to the G5 by then though. The slot that the battery slides out of and the modular accessories that can be plugged into it is a legitimately innovative design... I'm super pleasantly surprised after last year when the industry was entirely stagnant and even regressed that things are turning around. I've been a Note user for a while, but the S7 hasn't done much for my N6 expectations. Sealed battery ard dropped IR blaster (G5 still has one :good: ) are pretty much enough to put me off. At least they waterproofed it (IMO it's an insult to customers to seal the battery and not do so), but we'll see when Note 6 time comes. In the mean time, I'll definitely be watching LG with interest
What are you thinking about upgrade options?
I was looking at new phones and nothing yet. was looking at lg v10.. no activity g5 to small. next samsung bringing back the sd card but no removable battery. sooooo my question is, I have a note 3 still do I get a new note 4 from amazon or a used one from swappa already rooted ? what do you think ? any comments ? thank you
LG G2 on the way. Anything but Samsung from now on. had a perfect S2, S4, and the Note 4 was great while it lasted but complete hardware failure just out of warranty.
I think im gonna jump on the S7 edge. I love my note 4. Best phone I ever had. Slightly smaller screen and no IR, and I do use it on occasion, but I dont see phones having it anymore.
When are the notes released? August if I remember right. The 4 gb ram and just something new is calling to me. Couple post up about the G5. I was reading up on it as well. If it was bigger it would be a tough choice. Love the ideas. Samsung should be stealing them by the….. S9 maybe!
If the rumors are true. My next phone will be the HP Elite X3 Windows Phone. It's a monster. Although I might not be able to get past the YouTube app not being available for Windows.

[HELP][VERIZON] Best phone to buy for root and Xposed.

As title stated. V10 boot looped but it's being covered under warranty. Unfortunately, I fully expect it to come back with MM or N which as far as I know isn't xposable or downgrade-able to LP.
What is the newest phone that I could get from Verizon or Best buy(can't afford to pay retail will have to use financing) that I can root and put xposed on? I don't care about TWRP or custom roming. If I have to get TWRP to root that's fine but I'm okay without it. I'd also like to avoid the "What do you need root for" discussions. I need certain modules, that you can't do without root.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Affordable option is a Moto G4 Play XT1607 which can be obtained online or through major retailers like Best Buy. Don't purchase through Verizion as their branded variant (XT1609) can not be bootloader unlocked or rooted. Comes with Marshmallow (Android 6.x) which supports Xposed Framework. Should be able to find in the $100-120 range USD; refurbs typically hover around $100.

I appreciate the input. The Moto G4 has an old cpu(Snapdragon 410 processor). I would like something comparable to my v10(Qualcomm Snapdragon 808). It was made in Oct 2015 and is almost 2 years old. Surely there has to be a phone released around the same time or later that is xposable?

Moto pure as mentioned by another poster. Also consider if you really need that horsepower. I have several devices with the G4 occupying the lower end. Performance is most noticeable when installing/updating apps on initializing a new ROM. Beyond that responsiveness mirrors my high end devices for daily tasks. Obviously does not apply if you game, manipulate video or regularly perform other CPU/GPU intensive tasks.
BTW - really isn't the right thread for this kind of Q&A. Good luck finding a replacement.

Thanks. I think I've just got accustomed to the response time of using my v10. When I'm constantly switching between apps, viewing media, uploading files, and using media apps that require Just-in-time downloads to use(Instagram/Snapchat) I hate the stuttering/pausing when slower phones like my g2(currently using) has that wasn't there for the v10.
I've tried reddit with no luck. I've also tried the thread the other member suggested because he said as much as you did about this thread but no one answered there either. I figured this would be the best place to find people using xposed devices who are on VZW and could just drop by and say "Hey I'm using this phone with xposed." Look at the x pure, I had one, has all the radios, bootloader unlocksble, magisk capable, currently doesn't have nougat = xposed (gravity box on stock rom is all you need), has the 808. It can be had for 200-260 on swappa. Doesn't have nfc however, camera is meh.

No I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada. The Oneplus 3T support a lot of network. In fact, there is 3 different version of the 3T ; A3000, A3003 and A3010 (mine is A3000, the North America Version). Be sure to buy the right one for your country.

From what I read, and that site, it might work on verizon, if the area you are in happens to use the bands it uses. It only has one or two of the 4g bands of Verizon. So it could work were I'm at but not work if I happen to travel out of my city.

This is unfortunate my 3T is fully sopported by my carrier so I enjoy it, but I understand if it it only patially supported by your carrier, it might not be the best deal for you. Good luck finding your perfect marshmallow phone then

Maybe ZTE Axon 7. Although there seems to be some issues after upgrading to Nougat from Marshmallow.

To my knowledge a phone has to be approved by Verizon to work on their network as well. If all the bands aren't supported, they'll never let you use it. You could buy a Nexus 6p, it's approved and you could flash back to MM if you need it that badly.

Yup. I got my eye on Moto Pure right now. It's about 100 or more less than the 6p similar specs and just as modable.

Considering T-Mobile upgrade - any hope for root?

I had a Samsung S4, rooted it, loved it. I upgrade to the S7e without checking, and no root. I upgraded to LG G7, thinking they couldn't possibly be this bad - no root.
So, any hope of the T-Mobile version having root? It's not a dealbreaker (the G7 has terrible cameras anyway) but knowing what the options are is nice.
I'm hoping that I can still get the $390 off when trading in my G7 despite getting two with the B1G1 a year ago... lol
Thanks!
Based upon past history, the T-Mobile SD855 version (or any American variant) is unlikely to get root, due to locked bootloader. I had a TMo S7 which got root via a leaked engineering kernel, but it was not satisfactory to me, nor many people. I got an international Exynos S7 which has full root, ROMs, etc. and is WAY better. The Exynos S10 is expected to get the full root treatment, but it hasn't yet. I'm holding off on buying a G970F S10e until root is established. Typically takes roughly a month, if I remember correctly, although this model appears it will be a bit trickier.
If you're counting on being able to root this phone, the best advice is probably get another phone. My Note4 took almost two years to see root and by the time it did, most developers had moved on. The Note7 had an engineering kernel "leaked" but that phone didn't last long. The Note8 was rooted for a short time but without an unlocked bootloader and an available recovery, flashing ROMs wasn't possible.
The enthusiast community is so small these days it doesn't pay to unlock the bootloaders. Samsung and others make far more money selling to corporations and government entities which value security.
Zero to None for the North American Snapdragon...
Unless you get the China version. That I believe has unlockable Snapdragon.

Non-North American Snapdragon (China, Central/South America) models are traditionally bootloader unlockable.
The unrooted T-Mobile S10 is okay at best. It's only real saving feature is the sound quality
Finance the Razer Phone 2. It's only $500

Seems like a nice phone, and a great value, though I am not a huge fan of no headphone jack. Also it's a side grade for me from my G7 (both are S845s). But looking at the forum, rooting sure looks easy. I'll keep it in mind, thanks.

Processing speed difference is infinitesimal in my opinion, and rooting will just get easier very soon. Razer just released full audio source and the devs are >< that close to cracking the encryption issue for fully working TWRP
Samsung doesn't care about the development community and their last good phone in my opinion was the S5

Exactly what the dude below you said and the should work well with Verizon and Sprint according to Chinese Note 9 (same bands as Chinese s10) users claiming they got everything working at least on Verizon.

What's the status of the V40 in comparison to the V30?

Hello all,
I'm just wondering if the V40 is as stable custom as the V30 is. I currently have a V30 that is great and on Android 10, but a coworker has this crappy iPhone 6 and I was just going to sell him my V30 for like $50. I was wondering if the V40 customization options (custom roms and whatnot) are worth paying for an upgrade. It looks like there's not a ton of progress on the V50, otherwise I'd consider that.
The V30 has been phenomenal, thus my reticence to switch phones.
Does V40 have as many options? Are there common bugs?
V40 is NOT a good candidate if you plan to explore custom ROMs. Get an HTC U12+ instead.

No 3.5mm jack. That'll be a no from me, bub. I'm surprised it has a microsd slot, though.
What is the status, though? I see a Lineage build in the development section. Is it just kicking off, or is there not a lot of interest?

Currently we have LOS 17, Havoc OS 3.5, PE 10, Dot OS, and that one other new ROM...plus we can also use the stock vendor for most GSI's available here on XDA

I ended up snagging a G8 on eBay for $180. It looks like development is heating up in that forum, so I'll be jumping ship as soon as it does.
If it doesn't, I guess I'll pawn it back off on eBay.

I ended up getting a G8 lol. I somehow snagged one for $180.
NIce, does it have same Quad DAC as V40? Same Dolby effects like DTS:X 3D Surround and Side by Side mode?

Looks nice. Maybe I'll snag one too next year lol. Hopefully the price drop further by then.

I got a second one for $150 that "cannot connect to wifi". I'm assuming it's an OS issue and I'm going to try to fix it when the G8 is fully rootable. It looks like the V50 is very close to a permanent root solution, and the V50 is very similar to the G8. Overall you can snag G8's on eBay for very cheap, considering it released a year ago
