Just can't root this thing somehow - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Stock ROM, updated several times in the past. Decided it was time to root it.
Downloaded the latest ROM (OnePlus3TOxygen_28_OTA_027_all_1706272156_5be1658723c44eb4.zip) from OnePlus' official website and sideloaded it with adb.
Set the developer settings on the phone then used the OP3(T) Toolkit to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP.
Boot up phone again to double check, everything seems to work fine. So far so good.
Install SuperSU, no bootloop but it simply freezes a few seconds into the boot animation. Hard reset phone.
Attempt to install no-verity through the toolkit (not sure if I should), reboot, same result.
Tried several times, in between wiping Dalvik/cache but nothing seems to make a difference.
Is the ROM simply not supported or something? This is driving me crazy..
For a phone which manufacturer is supposed to embrace community efforts, this is the only phone that has given me a major headache trying to root it.
I'm out of ideas at this point, maybe someone can tell me what's going on here?

What version of SuperSU? The latest releases have had some issues... If you haven't already, I'd use the latest Service Release. Or if that doesn't work version 2.79 (found here).
For rooting, there's also Magisk to consider and phh's superuser.

Thanks for your input.
The toolkit seems to come with 2.79. Should I just give the latest version a shot and see what happens?
I'm on the latest version of the ROM right now with the bootloader unlocked.
Edit: fixed. SuperSU 2.82 stable worked for me. Thanks again

[Q] Unlock Bootloader B609 + recovery

Hi everyone
I recently updated to B609 and (as expected) my phone was un-rooted.
I decided it would be better for me to just install a ROM instead of waiting for a new way to ROOT every time a new OTA comes out. (I have seen some very interesting ones that include Xposed)
This would be the first time i install a ROM on one of my phones but i do know how to use custom recovery's and i will always keep a copy of a backup close so i can flash back when something goes wrong.
A problem i have with starting all of this: I can't seem to find a way to unlock the Bootloader on my phone.
I have looked online but i always get links for older versions/other phones/German stuff.
Second problem: The recovery. As far as i understand, there is no working TWRP for EMUI3.0. BUT there should be a working CMW recovery. Should i go fot CMW?
Third problem: Which ROM? There are 3 that grabbed my attention. Se7en-Rom (But it seems like it hasn't been updated in a while), My-RoM (which seems the most interesting for me at the moment) and Miui (which i just found out about). Which should i go with or should i use another one? I can already say that i want my phone Rooted and Xposed is something i would love to have back (since i used to have it on my previous phone).
Any advice and help would be appreciated

I have a P7-L10 with B609. I was able to successfully root it with RootGenius. When you root it, the bootloader is unlocked at the same time. As far as I can tell, the root is 100%. As for CWM, you can get it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-p7/development/mods-tweaks-kernels-recoverys-emui-2-3-t2966670
TWRP doesn't work with B609/emui3.0.
My L10 has faulty flash memory and won't accept a custom recovery, so I can't test CWM or any custom ROMs. Perhaps others can advise. Good luck!

RootGenius was the first thing i tried. It went up to 66% then i got an error but that was a fully Chinese version.
I just tried it again with the one i found by using Google and it goes up to 72%, then tells me that the root has failed.
Which version did you use?
This is what I used and it worked fine (root genius): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789337
As for bootloader, as far as I know from, starting with firmware 133 (Emui 2.3) all devices have unlocked bootloader
CWM is the only custom recovery for the moment;
Did not try any custom ROM (I'm happy with stock ROM for the moment).
Cheers

That's the first one i tried out. The first few times it ended in an Error. I tried it again today and when my phone reboots during the process, RootGenius loses contact with my phone.
And there is a bootloader-ish thing, but the only options i have is reboot, factory reset and cache wipe.

Hmmm, strange problem. Assuming you have the latest version of HiSuite installed and your drivers are current, all I can suggest is trying again with RootGenius (I used version 1.8.7) with your firewall and antivirus disabled or perhaps trying with Vroot. If you do decide to try Vroot it probably won't work unless you disable your firewall and antivirus.

I disabled my firewall and antivirus and gave RootGenius another try. Normally it goes up to 71% and gives me the error. Now it went to 71%, rebooted and then it gave me the error. The weird part is that right before i get the error, it says the installation is complete.
Moved on to Vroot (which is called Iroot now apparently) . It took a while longer but it wasn't able to do it either.

Get in bootloader mode, if your bootloader is unlocked, it will be written and highlighted with red color. I will point out again, starting with firmware B133 (Emui 2.3) all bootloaders for L10 version (I don't know for Chinese versions) are unlocked
Cheers.

You were right! (not that i every doubted you). I found the problem i had: For some reason, i couldn't boot in bootloader trough my phone BUT i was able to do it with 'adb reboot bootloader'. After making some idiotic mistakes and having to re-flash the stock ROM, I finally was able to install My-RoM v3.3, its rooted, i have Xposed so i am happy
So thank everyone for the help!

SIM not detected after flashing LineageOS rom

I downloaded and clean flashed the zip from this thread: (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...rom-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-moto-g-t3531811)
It booted and everything works but my SIM card isn't getting read. It says No sim card.
I tried searching for fixes in other threads but none worked. One said to remove sim, put phone in flight mode, power off (not reboot), wait one minute, and power on again. Many comments said it worked for them but it didn't work for me.
Please help!
p.s. Idk if it makes a difference but I flashed pico gapps for 7.1, superSU v2.78, and a Samsung sans font zip. They've worked for other ROMs. I don't think they're the problem.
Did you flash su?
If yes, then which version?

Yes I flashed 2.78.
Update: I clean flashed again but this time with su 2.68 and the sim card is getting detected. I tried flashing 2.78 again because in 2.68 the binaries fail to update (in 2.78 they update properly)
I got this problem in CM14 also. The su version worked well for CM13. Where could I find a decent su version?
First, why don't you use the official nightly? They work on everything and it's getting better day by day... In my opinion this SuperSU thing is unnecessary and counterproductive.
SIM card not detected - I had this problem since CM13 and what's helping for me is just a "soft restart" - sometimes two or three times, then SIM is detected...

Yeah SuperSU is being a pain, but then I won't be able to grant root access to applications without it, right? (What other better way is there??)
Sorry I didn't know there was a difference between this one and the one on the site. I did flash a nightly from there but it said installation failed because zip file is corrupt. I'm downloading a different one since you say it's better I'm downloading another one now. I'll clean flash that and post an update.

First of all you have to download and install the su (arm) from the "Extras" Site and flash it directly after the OS. Then You'll have to activate "development settings" (Settings->About Phone->tap "Build number" several times) and within there you can activate root for ADB and APPS. Then the apps will ask for root permissions...

Root OnePlus 3T running 7.1.1 Android Nougat and Oxygen 4.1.1.

Hello all.,,
I checked and read many thread slowly and steadily ,but couldn't find a good solution to root this phone 3T.
I just bought this Beautiful Device runing so smooth but with Hands tied too hard unable to run many apps and many ads and Bloatwares..
Thought to Root this device ,but all are mostly either Oxygen 3 or Marshmallow or 7.0. Version of ANdroid..and DW Error,is also a major concern to look out..
So Please help me to root this device running O2 4.1.1 (I literally dont want to change the stock,as of now) and Android 7.1.1 ,some simple steps...
Thanks and Regards
Awaiting for replies!!
I'm about to get this phone so I've been doing a lot of research myself. It looks like you can follow the steps in this thread and you can flash supersu through TWRP once you've unlocked the bootloader.
Unlock bootloader.
Flash TWRP.
Flash your preferred root zip in TWRP (SuperSU or Magisk are two good choices, I prefer Magisk).
That's about it...
i too tried the above method,,But I got struck with Logo of TWRP and got enabled only after 6 Hours.. But to my fate,,i'm still running on Stock recovery.. Not on TWRP !!
Use the latest official TWRP (currently 3.1.0-1). Works just fine.
i can relate to your question.
however, i discovered how to root the 3t and flash the usual zips files the finally the freedom rom, on my own.
it was a thrill.
i advise you to just take the blue pill.
I installed Blusparks Version of TWRP ,,but still no use,,SuperSU or Magisk both says My phone is not rooted!!!!
I want to live the Stock ROM and just to root the device,,But the steps are not futile for me!
What I would do if i was you.
Unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP
Flash latest Magisk 13.2 zip
Hey,
Is this method still valid for rooting the 3T?
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...wrp-root-nandroid-efs-backup-and-more.475142/
Yes, that is still valid, more or less. Might be a more current version of blue_spark's TWRP (official TWRP is on 3.1.1.2) although the link only says 3.1.1-x, so I don't know what that means. But probably won't make a huge difference.
Can't see what version Magisk is linked (my office network is blocking the link). If you choose Magisk, flash latest version 13.3, especially if you want to hide root (from Snapchat, banking apps, etc.). Older versions of Magisk will fail to hide, due to recent changes Google made to SafetyNet.
And what if we want to flash this beta to a brand new device?
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3t/oneplus_3t_oxygenos_openbeta_12/
Should we first unlock the device, then install the TWRP recovery, then flash this beta rom and then root?

Can`t get rooted. Twrp isn`t working either

Hi
I recently got a mi mix. Love it so far except the OS. So i figured i would root it and flash lineage on it. I got twrp on it, but the screen froze when it asked for å password to mount it i think. I tried rolling back a few versions, but didnt work either.
Well after that i tried to root the phone (I used fastboot to get twrp installed), but neither of the programs i used worked.
The ones i tried were Kingo Root and Root Genius. Both said that my phone was too solid to root. This is very different from when i rooted my galaxy A5 2016. That was just one click and done.
So what i need help with is either getting twrp working or getting rooted so i can flash through the official twrp app.
All other zips where straight from official sites other than a custom version of twrp
Official TWRP is abandoned, does not work.
Read towards the end of the official TWRP thread, you will find a link to a innofficial version by Blunden-Raupe that works.

PLEASE help with annoying A6 & magisk problem

Firstly, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place and topic has been covered before, but I really need your help!
I got the A6 brand spanking new 4 days ago, and have managed to flash TWRP (TWRP-3.2.3-TwrpBuilder-a6ltexx-2018-11-26_20-43.tar) successfully and get RMM-State_Bypass_Mesa_v2.zip, Magisk-v18.0.zip & no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip (in that exact order) and I thought was all good.... BUT here lies the problem, after I have flashed the above files, I need to update Magisk to the latest version to be able to use the Magisk Hide & Superuser functions.. Whenever I have updated Magisk, either by direct install or download only then install in TWRP, it makes the phone reboot at random intervals..
it can be hours between reboots or it can be minutes, it goes blank and restarts from the android boot animation, where I have to enter my pins to be able to use it again.. WHY is Magisk causing this random reboot and how can I fix it??
Ive re-flashed the A600FNXXU3ARL1_A600FNOBE3ARL1_EVR (Android 8.0.0) a good few times now, but this random reboot bug Isn't present since I flashed it back to stock..
Also, a separate question; WHY are certain android apps refusing to run due to phone being rooted?? I thought once you re flash official stock firmware the phone appears "warranty intact"?
I used to be up-to-date with android rooting & modifying back in the day, but I have been out of the loop for a long time.
Thanks for your patience reading this and thanks in advance for any help/answers/time taken by me.
Arty.
Magisk on Oreo doesn't work well if you don't have the one with anti defex version as the kernel keeps avoiding you to use superuser commands as part of security feature even after rooting.
About the stock apps refusing to work after flashing the stock rom, you already tripped knox while flashing twrp which once gone you won't be able to turn back. But flashing a custom kernel would fix such problems most of the time.

Thank you for your reply!
How do I get said anti defex version? Ive tried googling it but only found unrelated results, could you please point me in the right direction in how to proceed please? thanks
Arty.
I can't point you a direct link with a magisk version you need to flash to get rid of defex. If you're lucky you may get a custom kernel built including it. Try one of the oxygen/phoenix kernels through this A6 thread.
The kernels will also help you byass all knox security related stuff which in turn will help most stock apps get back to working state expect for samsung pay and secure folder.
