new member here. goal is to educate myself as much about moto x as possible. - Moto X Q&A

greetings. hope to learn a lot and make a lot of new acquaintances here. i bought my moto x because it's American-made!!! that is my chosen lifestyle; 100% American-made. it is difficult but not impossible. been successful with it since 1980. i am not a geek or techy or nerd or any kind of expert with electronics, hence my joining this forum; to learn as much as possible. i will be happy to contribute anything i can when asked. now my phone problem; it's bricked!!
first logo screen appears, then goes black when starting the second screen. open the recovery menu and boot-up always fails. i can't get to any controls. the only thing that stays on is the bar codes screen. and it won't go into safe mode. i would like to just send this phone to someone and pay them to fix it. i have two more developer edition moto x phones; one used and one new, and i'm now afraid to touch anything on them. at least until i learn what i'm supposed to do. so thanks for having me and have a great day.....dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for joining XDA!. I will recommend you to do a thorough search, most of the problems and specially the one you point out have been asked before.
All the best and I hope you have the best journey here on XDA.
Good luck unbricking your device.

Need someone to program my Ty Tn II

I purchased an unlocked Ty tn II and can't get it to do what I want. ie 10 sleep mode won't go away, etc, etc.. It's taking too much of my time to trouble shoot. I live in Evanston, Illinois and wondering if anyone wants to help me. I prefer some that is a senor contributor here has the same phone and already knows what to do. Thanks. Steve
For being so picky as to who helps you, I sure hope you are willing to pay them . . . . .
You would be extremely surprised as to how much "Non-Senior" members know about our devices
Anyway, goodluck and have fun here on XDA. Just remember to ALWAYS use the search button in this forum.
I can tell you that HTC just released an update for the KAISER/TILT on their site. This has to deal with the issue of the power settings not staying where they should be at. Check it out at HTC America under product support and then under TILT. This may help...

WTF???
This site is called "XDA DEVELOPERS", not "XDA spoon-feed those to busy, lazy or stupid to work things out for themselves".
How come noobs are getting worse or lazier? There now seem to be a few of these "I want someone else to do it for me" threads. I guess I now know where the sacked Lehman Brothers employees have gone.

WOW!!! What a nice first post, you really contributed by starting this thread. When I first started here I was scared about flashing. But I read and figured it out on MY OWN, such as life.
Mea Culpa-- Still would like programing assistance
I want to apologize to anyone I've offended by my post. I have been reading this site for some time now. I am in awe of the things that many of you have been able to accomplish with these phones and the programing. It is amazing. My complements to all contributors and inquirers alike, I find both helpful.
However my area of expertise is not in programing such phones. Just as clients come to me for marketing services, I too was willing to pay for some programing expertise. In these tough economic times, I thought it would be a welcomed opportunity. And yes, I am willing to try anyone that knows what they are doing, e.g. junior or senior contributor.
I did read about the Tilt upgrade thank you, but I read on the ATT site that it wasn't working. Additionally, when I go to the download screen at HTC the download button is not on my computer screen. I can see it in the print preview, but not on the screen. I installed Kaiser tweaks and that didn't do it either.
So, I gave it a good first shot, and not that I am throwing in the towel, but it seems to me a great opportunity for the right person. I don't just want to fix the current problems, I want to keep going and install some of these great programs and perhaps a new OS. Take care and keep up the good work.
Chicago Developer Wanted to Fix tytn II
Please send private message if you would like to fix my phone as previously posted in this thread. Will donate or pay outright to fix and update to latest ROM.
Thanks.

NEWB here

Hey guys, this is my first post. I couldn't find and introductions thread so I thought I would just put it here. I have an HTC Touch Diamond and I'm just a basic end user.
I purchased the phone from sprint because I am already a sprint customer, and I needed a tool to make my photography business stronger. The large screen is great for displaying photos should I meet a possible client anywhere, then I can email them pdf's straightaway. Also, the sprintnav is great for when I have more than one location on a shoot (friggin battery life gives me ONE location, so it's emergency only)
OK so then I got to tinkering with my phone, and found out there is a BUNCH of tinkering I can do with it.
So here I am. Wish me luck. I don't wanna break this thing (yet)
Mitch
hello Mitch, nice to see u and be careful..u'll get addicted here

Denco7- Yeah I was poking around and learned the term BRICK. 8) I definitely don't want to have to use that one! So I'll definitely be reading and rereading everything.
Thanks guys
Mitch
Up to date
So coming from what I started with...
I now run androkkid as my main UI. I have mighty ROM 4. I have an Alltel radio which has dropped a couple of calls so I think I might switch back to a Sprint radio for a while. I'm CDMA Diamond anyway...
I'm looking at flashing a new bootsplash into my device...
and damnit, I just might have to learn some manila editing to get the look I want on my pda...
After a check or two I might actually hit the donate button here......
This is a crazy amount of knowledge here.
Peace
Yeah the donation button is the best way to say thanks to this great site
Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
believe me that's on the way. but i only have six bucks left in my paypal acct and some recent CRAP has basically left me peniless and homeless. so i live with my brother rent free while i work a meager salary job (pay is a step over fast food) and try to rebuild my own business.
my car is gone, my apt is gone, etc etc
i just can't quite hit that donate button yet...
[/sob story]
Sorry to hear that
Wish that better times arrive to you soon

Are you a victim of trying new things?

I have had a htc g1 t mobile in 100% working condition for a long period of time. a month ago i rooted the phone ( and i was successful), downgraded the phone to rc29 and tried to put the hero firm ware into my phone. in the process of trying to put the new firm ware i came across some difficulties and now, as what they say "bricked" my phone. immediately as this happened i was able to reach such screens as holding the end key and the camera key landing upon a white page with some options. not having much knowledge i played around with it and now my phone is completely unresponsive. all it will do is start up and stay on the g1 spalsh home screen and only when i take out the battery will it shut of. holding down any certain keys together does not seem to help. i have also given my phone to such companies as SN traders who were unsuccessful in repairing it as they said " they could not identify the problem". perhaps they never really tried. but the point is, i want my phone to work again. do you have any suggestions as to what i may do to bring my phone back to life or perhaps suggest a place to go to that will repair it for a fee. Please help . thanks in advance

wronggggg forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=507 go there
Victim is definitely the wrong term to use in your case. This is exactly why the Devs put a disclaimer up reccomending you don't try this unless you are confident in what you are attempting to do.
At the end of the day, it's your hardware and your choice whether or not you choose to tinker with such things. As a side note, if you were able to get a screen with some options on it, you were probably able to reflash at that point but decided to "mess around" with it instead of coming here for solid info.
Sorry for your loss.

(if you start a new thread in the Q & A section, i'll be glad to assist
hey thanks for the criticism. if you dont know a way to help dont bother posting. and as for the title, its mainly just a tool for attracting people to this thread
wow... because this has to do with development.... LOCK and Block~~~
arbab01, perhaps you misunderstood.
this part of the forum is for development. There is a wonderful Q & A section that experienced g1 users such as myself tend to frequent (yes it is nice to help people out every once and a while).
Also, its part of the rules.

You're a moron. If you try to "attract" people to this thread with a misleading title, people will simply use their back button when they realize they've been duped. No one in their right mind is going to help you if you try to trick them into it. How stupid are you?
POST IN THE RIGHT SECTION, SERIOUSLY.
Mods: Ban the Noobs who cant use search or google.
To noob: buy a 20 dollar phone or go back to stock cause you are not tech savy enough to own/mess around with a g1. Also look for local colleges that teach a course on "googling"
now for the advice: you bricked your phone. its useless now. you are screwed. see above message.

Holy crap guys. How rude can you be. Just help the guy out or kindly press the back button. Maybe the topic will die on page 2 but you guys keep bumping it with your mighty "NOOB LOCK BAN" replies. Does it make you feel superior? I bet this guy never posts here again.
i'll guess you have held camera and pressed home to go into the bootloader again?
if you have try and put the DREAIMG.img file on another sdcard and try again. if not, go for the deductible, it's cheaper than a new phone right now

I actually used to do one or the other -- helping out or pressing back -- but it's getting ridiculous. If some guy is strolling along the grass with a "DO NOT WALK" sign in plain sight, is it really necessary to carry him off or ignore it? No. You yell at him so he gets the hell off himself and doesn't make that mistake again. And hopefully, spectators will see that such behavior will not be tolerated of them, either.
This is supposed to be a development section. Besides, XDA has too many users dragging it down as is. If this guy never posts here again, great, one less problem.
I cant believe this thread is still open..
and i hope he never posts again
If you can't boot in to the bootloader (camera + power) or the recovery menu (home + power) then it's dead. The only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard, but I doubt you'll be able to get a third party to do that for you. If you have a contract with tmo, go in to the store and act dumb, just say that that's what the phone does after you updated it. They should give you a replacement. If not, enjoy your paper weight.
Seriously guys, even if someone posts in the wrong section you might aswell help. But I'm sure it's much more satisfying to throw a hissy-fit >.>

thanks for ur sincere reponse. unfortuantly i got this phone from a local person here in ontario who i suppose brought it down from states. Would u know how to replace a mother board or any one who does and how much would it cost?
waaahhhhh...
FOLLOW FORUM RULES AND YOU WONT GET FLAMED. Its easy. All you do when you press the back button, or "just answer their question" is enable people to not do **** on their own and reinstate the fact they dont have to follow the rules. I'm sure we all haven't spent all of our time following the rules to watch someone else get away with completely disregarding them, right?
Besides, if this guy was REALLY trying to fix his phone it wouldnt have taken him a day to get back to anyone...and now its a "mother board" issue? He's wasting our time...
there's a post for a how-to for replacing a motherboard in this forum already....does this guy know where the search button is? He even includes how much you should expect to pay/best way to find one!
i feel bad when people brick their device, but you are a victim of yourself

First Motorola? Me too...

This thread is my first at XDA, and from my experience a worthy device to be discussing here.
I am expanding my nerdly endeavors to my new toy these days. I have a solid device in the Bionic, but there's still a feeling of betrayal stabbing into my core.
So what's up with this locked bootloader thing, and what are the implications?
To those, like I, who have bought a Motorola/Droid with a surely locked bootloader, might be wondering WTF?
While trying to boot into recovery, being new to Android phones, I couldn't for the damn succeed. I wonder how many noobs will never root their Motorola phones, as they fail to "Bootstrap" into recovery.
Bootstrapping into recovery, what?
Yes, dear noob if you might humbly continue to read, equipping your bootstraps is quite an important step of the process to being leet,
What you need is a way to change what boots when you start the phone, and after rooting you can install a BOOTSTRAP as it were, to instruct the bootloader as you please. In this case, it would please you to boot RECOVERY. And certainly we all understand the implications of root by now?
Language can be tricky for us newbies! Even then already-nerd kinds!
Here you are dear reader is a reverse-tutorial on our Bionic, and I presume other Motorola Droid branded devices. Let us discuss something more important at hand -- What isn't possible because of the lock-down on what happens when our phone boots? For one, I can't get the hours back I wasted while wondering WTF?
The Bionic is personally my first Android device. My ex-phone (previous to the Bionic) was Windows Mobile 6.1 as it was sold to me. Non-touchscreen I might add. Nobody cared to hack it to bits to see what was possible. From the prison of my old cell phone rose the desire to get back on the right team, where things actually continue to develop and work, and actually get better through time, and where I can freely learn how to do anything on my phone.
Webtop, for me, is something I will be promptly fixing and hacking to bits as time permits.
4G upload rate+inbuilt linux box = i want 2.
My only question remains, what isn't possible on our Bionic?
- No trackball means terminal programs or emulated keyboards typically won't be able to use necessary shortcuts. Ouch,
- Locked bootloader means something I'm not certain how to explain. I will update this note as somebody can explain more pointedly.
And feel free to contribute any elephants or brick walls you might notice about our pimping Droid Bionics. Keep it hacky fellow consumers.
Reserved so I can be the judge of what isn't possible on my damn phone!
(Maybe, I might suggest a different title and moving this to Development for better eyes to contibute?)
I am selling mine tomorrow and buying a rezound for now or maybe trade that in for the GNex. All depends on if the RZD gets s-off in the next couple weeks. I have never had a phone with a locked bootloader, and if you have only had phones with locked bootloaders you don't know what you are missing. I do, and it rubs me raw. Exact reason I went back to my tbolt, and found it to be a better phone. Unlocked bootloader. Will probably never buy a Moto phone again. This has soured my taste for their phones.

[Q] Nokia Lumia 1020 goulash.... firmware? OS? :(

Hi, my name is Sarah Beland.
I spent way too much time trying to fix my phone, I'm putting up the white flag... don't have anymore time to try and fix everything for myself, and by myself.
I'm looking for no bull efficient help... one I'm willing to pay for in money or other? whatever. I'm starting my own business and need this phone to work correctly, which it does, however, it's stuck in a developer, multi carrier, multi firmware, multi OS development insider programs with upgrades, downgrades that I've lost track of what I actually got.
The phone is a Nokia Lumia 1020 that I bought with the supposed attributes (unlocked, developer)
I've flash it. I've been in the developer program from Microsoft, and I'm had Rogers Canada and Bell Canada on it.
I'm willing to supply any info required to get it to a uniformed and latest firmware/OS together... hoping for Cyan or Denim + and need in all situations for the camera to work!
Is anyone interested?

Thank you, I've done that already, I must of messed up somewhere, as the camera, after that tutorial, still doesn't work...
Ok, might bring it to a shop? I thought, as huge forum of developers, someone would be able to give insight, a little bit more involved helping and people who make a living developing software for hardware, than simply blindly pointing to a tutorial, that In any situations, always tries to fit all into one.
Maybe, some people, who need help, aren't stupid, or have time for this... For some people, spending hours frustrated, isn't fun, or productive. Maybe I did mess up somewhere, however, I was willing to pay... I clearly expressed in my original post, that I DONTT HAVE TIME TO BE DOING THIS... over and over again, following a linear path, that is accompanied by a thousand people asking why the linear tutorial didn't work for them...???, And the constant answer, is, go back, you messed up, try again.
I don't want to go down that rabbit hole!!!
Thanks.

Well the flashing procedure is the same for all Lumia handsets, and it is described in detail in the thread i directed you to, if you already flashed as described there and the camera isn't working i'd try getting the handset in a Care point, as at this step there isn't anything you or anybody else on this forum can do to help you, there might be a HW failure.
