In theory you should, by running a European software it wouldn't take away from the hardware capabilities. But I guess we will have to wait and see..

Volte will likely be specific to the radio or the firmware

Not to hijack this thread BUT will a euro xz1 work on US voice/data networks and retain fingerprint scanner? I don't really care about VoLTE...Ive never used it nor do I care to I just want this phone!

Assuming it supports all the same 2G/3G/4G bands the US carrier you are using uses (and you aren't using a CDMA carrier) then yes. Historically the European Xperia versions have supported US carriers. However, it has also historically been easy to flash European firmware onto the US Xperias, to enable the fingerprint sensor in them. Either way I think it makes sense to wait for the US one so you have a functioning manufacturer warranty.

This post details the process for the Xperia X, you have not needed root access to do it on any previous Xperias (can't say for sure till this one ships), though you will need to wait for Xperifirm to add all the Xperia XZ1 firmware versions to its database.

Only true to a certain extent. T-Mobile is shifting to Band 12 (and then 600Mhz) which requires Band 12 WITH VoLTE.
Check out the X Compact forum or other "non VoLTE" phone forums - reception is terrible.
Due to recent lawsuits T-Mobile is actively disconnecting non-VoLTE phones from Band 12.
That means you may be in a big city where you should get 100% reception ... but you have 1 bar for GPRS.

Anyone make progress on the original request?

I'm not sure you will see the option, but you can test it by making a phone call when you're on LTE. If it drops down to H/H+/GSM to make the call, then it's not using VoLTE. If it stays on LTE during the call, then it is using VoLTE. Would be great to know if you could test this.

Flashtool doesn't work with the new models, but it's confirmed that Newflasher does.
From peeking into the firmware, VoLTE and WiFi calling is enabled on T-Mobile USA when the "Customized US" (ID 1310-4371) firmware is loaded, but disables the fingerprint reader.
There is a specific modem configuration and framework overlay files that get loaded to allow VoLTE and WiFi calling, so it's highly unlikely to work without the US firmware unless you are rooted and can modify the normally write-protected partitions.
You will have to download it with XperiFirm and follow the instructions in the Newflasher thread.
I'd recommend deleting the "*.ta" files first.

It drops to H when I make a call

Thanks for confirming

In the US on AT&T with a US model, will I have any issues with this phone if I flash UK firmware? The fingerprint scanner isn’t an absolute necessity for me but I would definitely like to have it if I can. I only ever hear people talk about issues with T-Mobile with these phones so does that mean I shouldn’t have any AT&T issues?

Got my compact from Ebay. Tried 4 different firmwares UK/NOBA/CE/TW and none work with Volte. Only US works.

US vs Non-US Models

Does anyone know what the two different model numbers are? Which model is for which region and apart from fingerprint/TMobile Volte, are there any other differences between the two models?
There is only one model number just different firmware flashed.
That makes life easy. Does any one know where we can see the two firmwares compared for all it's differences?

I haven't ever used it (or even had an Xperia, might be my first this fall, but we will see), but I think I have seen an app called "Xpericheck" or something like that? Don't quote me on that. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Also, no one seems to know for certain if the phone will work on US t-mobile, just in case you didn't know. So, perhaps be cautious.
Yeah, I read that. I guess I just need to sit back and hear more from those who already purchased. Fingerprint is a must have for me, so I'll need to flash euro firmware. And if that means I lose Volte, so be it. I just want to confirm there isn't other things I'll miss out on.
I so freaking wish Sony kept the concept software going....

If this is the case, I am in between buying the US version which will come with the warranty or international version without warranty but fingerprint support. VoLTE is not a big deal for me as of now, but I would like to have the finger print working with US warranty, would that be possible by flashing the necessary firmware?
Thank you!
i have the international variant (asian). everything works fine on Tmo, with the exceptions of voLTE and voWIFI. i am pretty certain this means band 12 is not functional, either, but i will do what i can to verify that.
so far, i have not noticed any issues at all with speeds, connectivity or compatibility. everything works as i expected, including fingerprint scanner. if anyone has any questions about functionality, i would be happy to test.

buy US version with US warranty. assuming you don't have to unlock bootloader to flash international firmware (i haven't tried), you should always be able to flash back to US software if you need to cash in your warranty.

Thank you, I am still waiting for the phone to be delivered at this point but I still want to have the fingerprint functionality.. Hopefully it'll work!
Hm. I'm able to download, via Xperifirm, the firmware files that I'm looking for, but Flashtool does not currently have the XZ1 Compact listed as a supported device. I'm not aware of a way to convert those files to the needed .ftf extension without Flashtool and I don't want to have to *pay* to download it from Xpericheck.com. Anybody know of an alternative?
EDIT: Never mind; I took a second look at the Newflasher thread in Sony Cross-Device General and got it working.

Any issues with using the Xperia XZ1 Compact on T-Mobile? I'm looking to get this one for my wife as she wants a smaller phone, and we're using Ting (T-Mobile MVNO).
Some users are reporting that the non-Japanese models have a problem where they reboot if used while charging.
Can anyone confirm whether or not all of the bands are the same on both versions? Like, if I get the US version, will it support all of the international LTE bands with or without flashing the firmware? I don't care about fingerprint readers.

As far as I have found, the two variants are the same phone, the only difference is the firmware flash that sets radio frequencies and disables/enables the fingerprint sensor on the power button. I recently got my wife a model that was originally international, but reflashed for US, and it has had no problems.

I have a Hong Kong variant flashed with UK firmware and all bands work.
VoLTE and Wifi Calling don't work, but B12 (and all of the other bands) work fine.

Depending on your provider, you either have it, or you do not.
Open settings, type volte in search bar...
Bootloader is locked, so if you don't have it, you don't have it.

The carrier it is being used on is important. Rogers, for example, does similar to AT&T, where they won't allow certain features to work on devices that were not purchased directly through them. If you are using the device on a US carrier, you might want to flash it to the U1 non-carrier firmware, which plays friendliest with T-Mobile for available features, or go one step further and flash to a specific carrier U firmware for a more specific focus on the features they provide.

Presumably you want to update it to Pie?
If you're going to go through the whole flash proccess choosing a CE or UK build will get you VoLTE and fingerprint scanner.
My knowledge of US service providers is sketchy, but it's possible that you can only use provider X's VoLTE if you flash provider X's firmware, maybe someone can correct me on that?
I'd rather avoid Pie. Just needed the VoLTE and maybe the US regionalization. I've heard non-carrier US has it, but I'm not sure.

You're going to have to ask around as Oreo builds have long since been taken down from the Sony servers.
'US regionalization' means no fingerprint scanner, there aren't any other differences.

XQ-AT52 - Activating on Verizon

I'm having trouble activating the XQ-AT52 on Verizon (current service provider), the SIM is registering in the phone but I'm getting no service.
When I try to activate via Verizon online it tells me the IMEI is incompatible.
But when I try to use IMEI checkers on any other US carriers (t-mobile, att&t) it gives me a similar error?
Is the XQ-AT52 just not compatible in the US?
The IMEI isn't in the carrier database for T Mobile and ATT but that doesn't mean it won't work. This device works on GSM networks, not CDMA which means it won't work on Verizon

I am using my Xperia 1 II which is the O2 version from UK on AT&T without problem. I get LTE+ speeds up to 100mbps. The only problem so far has been when I go to call setting to enable call forwarding, it gives me a sim/network error. Changed the sim still same error but other than this no real issues

AFAIK, if you contact Verizon and ask them to activate the device as CDMA-less (or just ask them to set up your line as CDMA-less) you should be good to go for at least data. VoLTE is a different story, you might need a US customization for that.

Hi good morning where the files for US customization.
So I'm in a similar situation, I purchased an xq-at52 that was flashed with US firmware and verizon can't help me. Well, they're working on it, but it seems to more of an issue than just provisioning my line as cdma-less. I recently had success with a oneplus 7t so I figured the sony would be just as easy. Does anyone have a success story with the xq-at52 on verizon??

Which phone have you moved on to, since the XZ1c ?

Hi Guys,
The XZ1c is almost 5 years old now. As there was no clear replacement for this compact phone - which phone did you eventually move on to?
- I moved onto the Xperia Ace 2, but it really is an inferior phone (bigger, slower, and worse camera).
- The Xperia Ace 3 is the best upgrade from the XZ1c. The new snapdragon chip fixed many of the issues that the Ace 2 had. And this phone gets a strong recommendation from me. Get it off ebay starting June 2022. It holds the title of "Worlds smallest smartphone with a 4500mah battery".
- I will be moving onto the Xperia 10 IV "worlds lightest 5G phone with a 5000mah batt"
Hope this information can help you with your new Sony.
Regards,
Dean
I'd like to know as well. My SO-02K no longer works as a phone now that 3G is getting disabled.
I've spent a lot of time searching for an acceptable replacement since the news about AT&T discontinuing 3G struck, but I've yet to find anything -- it seems like small Android phones are just a thing of the past.
Yep, I'm stuck without voice for the forseeable future.
Pixel 5 & 4a, Nokia 7 & 8 spring to mind... Other than that XZ2 compact seems to be the obvious next in line. FYI you can set up a search on gsm arena and see exactly what's out there under 145mm in height w/ 4g+, BT5+ and running Android
If you have money to burn and are unbothered by the lack of substantial customization options/roms but gotta have all that extra space in your pocket, perhaps those new age flip phones are worth considering. Talking about Z Flip3 and Razr 5G
