LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

Reboot to recovery (TWRP by @Captain_Throwback) - Direct link
Wipe /system, /data and /cache
Install LineageOS zip package
Install [optional] the LineageOS su addon to get root (there are obviously other root methods, but this is the recommended one as it survives to OTA updates)
Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)

Keep in mind that for now this is just an alpha, take it like an early preview. Quite a lot hasn't yet been ported to Lineage, so please don't report issues like: "broken buttons backlight".

I guess we're using the 7.1 version of GApps since there isn't one for 8.0 yet?

Unofficial Gapps here: * link removed *

that wasn't expected but highly appreciated
thank you very much

I will test instantly

Have anyone tested RIL?

For me, SIM was detected on first boot but then after a restart, it stopped being detected. When it was working, calls/sms worked but not mobile data.
But boy is it smooth. UI much more fluid than Nougat

Excelent work, thank u bgcngm ?
About ROM, there are a few FCs while setup phone, but nothing that u cant handle with. RIL is working, I mean phone and sms, I havent tested mobile data (but at least sys catch proper APN). All other functions in settings work good, except BL which doesnt work, and its icon is blinking all time. Wifi is working good, GPS is also working pretty good, needs few sec to lock; audio is fine, there is no crackling sounds; sensors and audio recording work just fine. Only thing that is missing is camera. If u need anything just let me know. Cheers

I don't remember any FC while setup but SIM was not detected. Once setup was completed there was a message saying system not responding, chose wait .. then SIM get detected.
Maybe an important thing to note for those who may have the same sympton that I had.. after ROM is installed, the system partition was change from 2644mb to 1006mb. To restore your backup or install other ROM (especially Sense ROM) you may need to Resize File System. If not your restoration or ROM installation may fail due to insufficient system space.

If i remember correctly, this was the case since the beginning of cm/los. When you flash cm/los it automatically changes from sense(2gb) to gpe(1gb), but when you wipe system, it's again back to sense. :good:

No, it was in the beginning, but then I fixed it here. The problem right now is that many things are not yet up, so most likely resize2fs_static is missing, and due to that partition is not being resized.

RIL on m8 single SIM may be acting kinda weird because I forgot to patch it the same way I did on 14.1 back when I switched to source-built RIL. And by the way, the "system process not responding" thing is happening on every device.

i am using latest lineage os nightlies , that is lineage 14.1 31 aug, the problem i am facing is i cant make volte calls, now i am using jio app to make calls , and shows "unknown base band version " on about page, can some one help me to solve this , i am a noob
Bug
I installed this version....later i got a notification that bug#1 captured.... My battery is draining quickly.... Also i am unable to install the updates received ....pls help
i am getting a issue of network after flashing this os in my yu yureka plus
Google Play store Is not installed
In this rom no google play store is installed. and unable to download what should i do?
is volte working now!!!
Phone reboots and goes into boot loop when I try to make a call. Have to flash again to get it to boot. Then it is repeat when I try to make a call.
Official ROM has no such problem.
Calling and Sound not working
Hello,
I have Yureka AO5510 with TWRP installed. I have tried all four versions (9Sept to 19Aug) from https://download.lineageos.org/tomato but facing call feature and sound issues. I tried finding the older versions but couldn't. They were working perfect with older version but not able to recall which one was installed.
Issues with call feature:
- I have inserted JIO SIM.
- Mobile internet is working perfectly fine.
- No message and incoming/outgoing call.
Issues with sound:
- No sound from any app. Not even from dial pad, music, ringtone.
- WhatsApp video is working but no sound from this phone. Strangely, proper sound at the caller's end, means microphone is working.
- I disabled AudioFX, still the issue persists.
- I tried one of the many solutions available over web: Modifying to3g file. But couldn't find any such file.
- There is possibility that the sound is too low to be heard as when I tried TestM app, there was very low sound. But I could only here it for once. [My ears are working perfect ]
Can anyone please help me here either fixing the issues or getting the older version?

If the fp sensor of your device is fpc and is not working on los,has following to methods to fix:
(choose one of them! not all !!!)
1. edit /system/build.prop and change ro.boot.fingerprint=goodix to ro.boot.fingerprint=fpc
or
2. rename /system/lib64/hw/fingerprint.fpc.so to /system/lib64/hw/fingerprint.goodix.so
reboot your phone
then fpc fingerprint should work~
Here it comes! Thanks for your efforts!

Either China Stable or China Developer (EDIT : It's developer). I looked at it this morning and saw only 1, but now I see 3 lol.
But one of them definitely is 7.6.8
Gonna wait for some reviews here (benchmark performance, battery life, etc) before I jump in.

No one in community can make los official As of now because los needs the guy who brought up tree ... unfortunately Alberto97 is no longer developing for osprey.. and we have to wait some magic from sultan Qasim Khan (squid)
I don't understand. Could @squid2 or @Alberto97 or you explain that? This looks like a perfect good rom for official, I asume that you would be willing to carry on the torch but in the end we can't have a perfectly good phone?
Can it be dirty flashed over LineageOS 15.1?
Planning buy this phone as secondary phone, when i saw the development i went happy. Thx for keeping this phone alive!!
Error with wifi connection: buffer space
Hi,
I do not have yet logcat or anything like that. Will try to get some data if that could give more clue.
Flashed that software yesterday - added gapps and su from lineageos.
All looked very nice, but then I got wifi connected but no internet message. Only on that device, so no issues with my home network as first check.
So I used dirty hack with adding settings as suggested:
https://android.stackexchange.com/q...cted-no-internet-but-internet-works-just-fine
but it did not help - so my problem was not detection of internet - but connection on device itself.
In Brave browser the message was like ERR_NO_BUFFER_SPACE.
Restart helped. For a time like few hours.
Now my detection settings are indeed disabled but real problem shows up.
I found some topic on lenovo forum about G5 - close enough - but no real conclusion - for some update helped, some requested phone replacement, and so on. No real root cause explanation.
My plan is to restore back to previous 16 version or even further back to 14.1..
Before going that routine - anyone encountered something like that? Any ideas?
Restart helps, so maybe it is indeed some temp space filling out. Next time I can try to get more from adb - netstat?
Regards
Jan
I installed the PIE Lineage OS a few days ago on my Moto G3 x1541.I've not had one single problem.Fantastic rom.Best yet and the Lineage team have outdone themselves.
Build number Lineage_osprey-userdebug 9PQ2A
190305.002 eng.ubuntu.20190313.090534 test keys
Tip:Before I install any custom rom I do a Hard Reset/Factory reset.
Then once I've installed the rom I let it boot to normal phone mode(Can take quite a while) then reboot to Recovery and do another Hard Reset before setting up my phones.
Also I make Nandroid backups of my Setup Stock rom before installing any Custom roms then I can be up-and-running very quickly.Once I've setup my phone with a Custom rom I again make a Nanroid backup for fast reloading if required.

Now I was able to observe it via adb. Attaching logcat part. There is successful check, and then failed.
What is odd, DNS and ping like commands do work. It is HTTP calls that fail.
But I had no clue what shortage can be observed on resources.
That socket error in logcat might be something.
I'm quite confident that I run some wipe while installing ROM. But maybe I need to do it over again.

Thanks, but I used the version that I had anyway and it worked without problems.
It is, as people said, a very good ROM. It could perfectly be official. I did not experience any problems at all.
(I did a factory reset before flashing the rom though. normal procedure, as I understand)
Tested:
>Camera: It works. Both photos and videos
>Screen Recording: It works
>Games: I do not play. Emulators work.
>Applications with real-time filters (eg SNOW): They work as expected.
>Netflix works
>Wi-fi and Mobile Data: They work, although in standby, and with Wi-fi, Data uses a lot of battery.
>VOLTE: Not available in my country, sorry
>Battery: It works much better than expected, but it's not magic. It works excellent because it kills applications in the background very aggressively. I did not see battery drains (and my phone is quite old).
Problems:
>Instagram, although it works well, does not show stickers, and neither those weird video recording modes that includes. And boomerang crash the app.
>The way it kills applications in the background is extremely aggressive by default. The first day I did not receive notifications until I opened those apps. I had to go to Battery settings, disable Battery Manager, and Optiization of battery in applications that I did not want it to kill.
This, if I'm not mistaken, is a general problem of Android Pie though
Tested on my Moto G3 8GB / 1GB ram variant.
Thanks for this marvelous 420 rom!

As I saw some odd failed calls for some class with facebook in name I decided to remove one game: "Word Of Words". Plus removed AdAway. As other candidate for creating connections.
And so far so good. It might change, but based on above I'm thinking that even if OS could handle that better - the cause was in software I installed.

Jan
Does this rom have a separate vendor partition? What's the difference with althafvly's LineageOS 16.0 rom (also based on chil360's trees)?
does encryption work?

Thanks isn't enough but that's all i can give to you. Thanks a lot for this.
After installation of ROM zip file had to resize system to installed nano gapps. No sim detected with sky UK sim. Couldn't connect to home WiFi either. Seems to be smooth as butter though. Great work dev.??
Have some problems installing the ROM. First there's error 7 (image with description below). but rebooting to system the ROM runs without configure, except wifi couldn't connect.
I'm using TWRP 3.3.1, with clean flash. trying with TWRP 3.1.1, same problem.
Great work, I'm using Lineage 16 actually.
Thanks man, never thought it would be released today, will definitely install it! You are a real hero <3

Yeah, didn't flash gapps, there's literally no point for that because neither wifi or mobile data is working, btw even tho this rom is pretty much unusable now (I'm not complaining), I'm not gonna roll back to 16, I'll continue testing and report some bugs here.

I'll fix that as soon as possible. That's a script that's failing during the installation and causing the breakage in telephony.

Don't worry mate, you already made our lifes happier, thanking isn't enough for what you just did, here's some bugs that I've noticed to make investigations easier (don't hurry to fix them, you can relax, you deserved it)
1. Sim card not working
2. Wifi is not connecting to a network
3. SystemUI restarts if screen recording (from feature flags) is activated
4. UI elements sometimes mess up
5. Some Los features are missing (probably because of los 17 isn't finished)¹
6. While flashing gapps, it says that i have unsupported version, and asks me to install supported version for device (Android 5.1.1 sdk 22) (unnofficial gapps from XDA)
7. Battery percentage is not showing up
8. Camera jitter persists here too (this time, switching to video mode and back to pic mode doesn't help, jitter is only gone in video mode)
9. While closing app, sometimes animation fps drops (but that's probably problem of the device)
1: 1. Los dark mode is not working
2. Battery status style can not be choosen (because of No. 7 bug),
3. Sometimes features under "advanced" or any other tab aren't showing up and section is blank, however headlines can be seen
That's pretty much it, considering that this build was released today, i am not complaining about this bugs, only feature i want to be quickly fixed is sim card issue, otherwise you did a really great job
Update:
1: 4. SElinux is disabled, maybe you did not enable it in case, but reported it anyways
Update 2:
Also noticed that I can't receive files via Bluetooth, using nixplorer to share them but it just says "file not sent", i had that problem with los 16 too

Hi @bgcngm,
I noticed in Settings that the Wi-Fi MAC address is all zeros (see attached screenshot). I assume this is why WiFi won't connect? Could the device be looking for the WiFi info in the wrong path, since Android 10 uses a system-as root setup? I know that's new for our legacy device.
TWP
EDIT: Won't we also need an updated TWRP that handles SAR for zips to flash properly? That would explain the issue people are seeing when trying to flash GApps. @Captain_Throwback indicates that in the TWRP Testing Slack (he also posted a test build with it there). I also noticed that the zip still doesn't have support for "htc_m8ul" as a device variant. Is there any chance that can be added as well?

Thanks! I will use it as daily driver now. Everything seems working just as the last build from Android 12.
Please when you try to fix, on klte / klteduos,if you can, please fix to work on 3G only mode. On Android 11 and 12 and many other builds I tried from your custom ROM only 4G works but I preffer 3G as its more stable where I live. Thanks in advance

Running Quite smooth on a SM-G800W8 but Emulators like to run quite slow unless I hold my finger on the screen, Thank you.
Great news, thanks Khalvat. Would it work if i made a dirty flash over your android 12.1 rom? I tell you it cause gapps are the same. Thanks in advanced.
since the power button is not working on my KLTE I won't be able to install cuz I wake the screen with that button I will wait for a fix
Thanks so much for supporting our 8 year old phone! I noticed that adoptable storage doesn't work anymore (it did on 19.1). The option doesn't show up when you insert an SD card, it just says "SD card for transferring photos and media". If I manually format it with `sm partition <disk> private` then the phone bootloops (gets to lock screen for a few seconds then crashes). Just wondering if there is a plan to get this working soon, because I fill up my phone's space fairly quickly .
Thanks again for keeping our old phones up-to-date!

Same here, stuck on the LOS animation for an hour. Same as the last couple 19.1 builds (w/ or w/o Gapps). July 19.1 is the last one that works fine.
@kltelegacy - This is on klte. From the 12.1 thread - others (only on klte) had the same issue:
Unfortunately, on klte, both TWRP update and clean install fail to boot (sits on LOS animation forever), even w/o any Gapps. I had also tried MtG and OpenGapps 12L unofficial nano and micro, same thing. I had the same issue was on the Aug build, but Jul was fine. No SIM installed.

Thank you very much, Sir KHALVAT for your unpayable effort in keeping our beloved Samsung Galaxy S5 KTLE always running the latest Android release. I did a clean installation of the ROM and flashed the BitGApps version 1.4 as recommended, and since the first day I am using my phone without any severe issue. The installation through TWRP version 3.6.2_9-0 went smoothly, and so did the first setup of the phone through the wizard. All my data and configurations saved on Google Drive were restored.
Today, I noticed in one of the repositories on GitHub that SELinux will pass to ENFORCING in the next release of the ROM. I hope that the missing functionalities mentioned in the OP will also be implemented.
For all those users following the thread, please do a clean installation if you really wish to enjoy Android 13 on your KLTE device.
Once again, many thanks to KHALVAT and all those contributing in code and / or giving constructive feedbacks.
