one plus 'open ears' event London UK - OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've been invited to go to London with all expenses paid including hotel by one plus to attend their open ears forum day. They want feedback from customers. I'm not sure of details more than this at this time but when I get more info I will update this thread.
The event is to take place at 10am on 23 September.
Has anyone else here been invited?
Is there anything people would like me to highlight to one plus?

Hi,
I've been selected as well! I'm very curious about what this event will be like as there is not much information about it. Also I haven't booked a flight yet, as OP said they'll "be in touch soon to provide further details".

How long do you think it'll take someone to mention the jello effect? Lol

i would like to ask whether they could rebuild the kernel from scratch as if that would fix the inverted display issue. since now they just set the kernel value to inverted only.

maybe they serve jello as dessert after dinner.
On a more serious note, i don't think this event is about kernels or other SW related topics. They want to improve customer support and hear about negative examples from their user base in Europe.
When I applied, I stated that I had contact with customer support once (changing the shipping address) which was not frustrating at all. And still they invited me to the event. As you can probably tell, I was surprised that I was selected.

Hey,
Thanks for asking us!
Maybe this only goes for me but:
I don't really care about 2k displays.
I prefer repairability over water resistance.
Keep the prices as they are.
And the most important of all: Release the OOS camera app on the play store in a way custom roms can have the same image quality as OOS !!
They promise this every time but never actually do it.
Just my 2 cents

Keep the prices by STOP spending useless money on these kind of stupid advertisement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfbgX-5h8xM
Water resistance like ip68 PLEASE!
help me bro! please tell these to oneplus...

hi, I got an invite to, pending for tickets, from OP. It will great opportunity to meet some of the forum members.

Hey, it will be great to meet you both also, if you pm with your Gmail address we can start a chat on hangouts so we can arrange to meet when we are there. I just received an email asking for my details so that they can arrange booking tickets and hotel.
Thank you to all who have contributed this far, please keep your suggestions coming :good:
Edit: I just received an email from our contact who is booking travel and accommodation, I followed the web address and found this link - http://www.seventyagency.com/
Maybe they are making a documentary???
Looks like quite a snazzy agency anyway

Fix the camera so it doesn’t compress so much and you lose quality. I think that’s my main issue.

It was excellent. So of the top management team was there. They listened, let's see what happens, I have very good feelings about one plus as a company that really does have good ethics and I for one understand what they are about and what they are trying to achieve.
I have come down with flu on the way home, when I have recovered I intend to update this post with a full report of what was discussed.

You should ask them to move focus pixel remapping from their camera app into the HAL, so that third party camera apps won't have dots, especially because the ported google camera's HDR+ algorithm amplifies them. damn, too late

[Collecting data] Some for those who already have their tablets.

I've recently noticed some people reporting that their tablets are exhibiting a couple issues including light leakage, bezel separation among others. I want to get an even sample rate so that my findings are not biased, so I have setup a form.
even if your tablet is perfectly fine, please fill it out. i still have a few questions for you.
If you would like to help me you can do so here

Perhaps you should add whether the model was the 8GB or 16GB to see if they're are quality control differences.
Good idea for trending and seeing what "really is going on in userland". I'm filling out, but will be returning mine for a hopeful replacement due to a dead pixel and some slight screen flashing.
Done....hope my input help.

Devices on Google Play: Did we help answer your question?

Hey everyone. Just want to reach out and make a suggestion to the folks who pre-ordered their N7's through Google Play. This morning I received an email from Google Play asking me to complete a satisfaction survey concerning their customer support in returning my email inquiry regarding N7 shipment status and the Googly Play store in general. So, I told them exactly what I thought they did wrong and how they could attempt to make amends with their customers.
I would like everyone to use this opportunity to offer CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM to the Google Play team. Sure, they ****ed up, but getting angry at them will most certainly not help the cause. Use the comments section of the survey to politely inform them of their mistakes in your opinion and they will be much more obliged to right this wrong. If you didn't get a survey then send them an email. Personally, I get satisfaction in knowing that a large corporation is forced to read my opinions
TL;DR - Politely tell Google Play how they ****ed up.
Please explain how they f'd up.
I don't see how they did.

Yeah, I'm also wondering how the f'd up. Sure, I would have liked to receive my device before it hit stores, but they never said it would.
The one thing I'm disappointed with them about, is how they're not allowing for pre-orders of the N7 case. It seems like it comes on, sells out in under a minute, and it's back to out-of-stock. If you're lucky, very lucky, you can grab one. Why not do a first-come-first-serve pre-order?!

Look at those guys on the video! They are so cool, speaking with such humility and Never ever comparing their work to some other contender. I like that and i feel comfortable buy their devices and using their services.
With such prices I can't complain much about the lack of sd slot or removable battery.

WhatPulse, XDA community interested?

Hi everyone, after having a discussion with MikeChannon (Forum Administrator) about this, he suggested making a thread to see how much interest it would gather and how the XDA community would feel.
(Edit by Mike: I don't know much about WhatPulse, so I'm neither recommending it nor rejecting it).
What is WhatPulse?
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WhatPulse
WhatPulse is a key counting program which monitors the number of keystrokes, mouseclicks, computer uptime, and bandwidth usage, that a user makes over a period of time. Unlike keyloggers, the authors claim WhatPulse does not record the order of the keys that are pressed, but instead measures the number of times that keys are pressed.[2]

WhatPulse is a keylogger!?!!? (always a worry for people)
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=is+WhatPulse+a+keylogger
Personally I've used it since 2006: http://whatpulse.org/TagEHeuer - not that I've used it much as I haven't really bothered with it.
I was thinking it would be a fun community group effort for everyone. They have thousands of teams on WhatPulse, it's just all in all a big load of fun! We'd make a team and just compete against other teams, it's also exposure for XDA.
You can see all the statistics here: http://whatpulse.org/stats/overall/numbers/
Remember it's just an idea, just wanted to hear how my fellow XDA members would feel, and if anyone would actually take part in this fun project, challenge. :good:
As always keep supporting the community with your great custom ROMS, mods, kernels, themes, apps, posts, etc. :highfive:
** I have registered the team XDADevelopers just so no one trolls and takes it. Of course if people are interested, the powers that be will get the team.
Anyone give me any feedback on why they wouldn't want to take part? Doesn't seem like something people would be interested in, or maybe I'm wrong?
I think this is pretty interesting. Maybe I'll take a more in-depth look at it on the weekend.

Hey,
I can certainly see the value of this, however, the majority of my keystrokes are done from my work computer.
Problem with that is, I'd have my neck on the chopping board if I circumvented the permissions and installed something such as this.
I would find.it.interesting to see how much I am communicating digitally though, as I do wonder if it has already passed the amount of face to face communication.

On another note I did see other sites reporting that Google knows about the battery drain issue and that a fix should be soon on its way but none of the sites I read from were credible sites.

Yes, google has indeed accepted this bug and working on a fix for it in the next update. However, they haven't exactly given a timeline for the next update!

Think it should be made clear that its caused by the Camera.... if you don't see " mm-qcamera-daemon" in your battery , you don't have excessive drain
Its not going to be a miracle shot for amazing battery life on the N5 .

Funny coincidence -- I wrote that article on the Nexus 5. I came into the forum looking for more hardware hacks like the one where you drill holes into the back of the Nexus 5, since I just broke my screen and was wondering if there was anything else I could tinker with while my case was open to make the N5 better. Couldn't find anything, but was happy to see someone shared my story.
Then, I saw @OuncE718's warning about the site I work for.
All I can say is that I stand by my reporting. My stories are factual, and trustworthy. I strive to adhere to the Society for Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics. (sorry for being long-winded, but I just want to start a dialogue).
I presented the facts as they appeared in that Google forum, and informed readers who didn't know about that particular battery life issue, as well as the Google's awareness of the issue -- and the project manager's comments on the matter.
The reason I didn't provide a timeline is because Google refuses to give a timeline for the fix -- it will likely appear in the 4.4.3 or a future release of Android. However, rather than speculating on that, I presented the facts. The truth is, Google doesn't know exactly when they will fix it.
Since I am in contact with Google's media relations, I can sometimes get answers to questions. More often than not, I am writing about something that Google can't talk about, like a future release, and they will not respond. However, especially when it considers issues that have not been brought to their attention, they will reach out to me and provide a statement. I would appreciate it if everybody here considered me a resource. The reason that I became a writer was to provide a public service when I can.
I want readers to be able to read my stories, and have some faith that I am doing my best to inform them truthfully.
If anyone has something newsworthy they would like to talk about, questions (or criticisms) about one of my stories, or a tip for something that they think would make a good story, I suggest you reach out to me on Twitter (@TommyLikey) or via email. Use my first initial (my name is Tom), then a period, then halleck at ibtimes dot com.
I write for the tech team. We strive to do good work, and I can't answer for the organization as a whole, but I can tell you that in my experience, it is filled with smart people who are trying to turn a newer news organization into something that we, and you our readers, can be proud of.
I am interested in your thoughts, concerns and criticisms.

Well, I apologize for those useless stories. I would just say, feel free to discredit me if I am doing wrong. The reason I put the link to that message board in the story was to provide a source for the story. Let me know if anybody here has any ideas or questions, and know that I and my team are striving to be a reliable source for news.
If you have a problem with a story, you can (almost) always reach out to the reporter.
