Mi A1 Port - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

This question is mainly for the devs or people who are well versed in the world of Android OS.
Is it possible to port Android One to our phone, the Mi 5?
Or would you get the same experience as when flashing Lineage OS?
Thanks

Why? It's just aosp with camera app from miui which is already ported.

If you read the last part of my post, I wanted to know if the experience would be just the same as flashing Lineage OS. My phone hasn't been recovery- unlocked yet and wanted to know more about other OS before diving in.

No, it wouldn't, LOS is a based on a different branch, so it isn't pure AOSP at it's core.
You would get that experience you want (similar to stock Mi A1's) with JDCTeam AOSP, but I do recommend AEX
You can install MIUI cam in all of them.

Android Clean ROM

Hi guys,
is it possible to root the phone and install clean Android version without miui? If not, is there any estimate when would it be possible?
You don't actually need to root your phone to install a "clean version of android". You will however need a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery (TWRP)
The best and to my knowledge only custom rom for the mi max 2 is linageOS 14.1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-2/development/linageos-14-1-mi-max-2-t3634864
this closely resembles a stock android experience

thank for the answer, maybe I did not express myself clearly. I mean the "clean" version ,stock without MIUI. Just base android that comes for examples with Google devices. I though Mi Max2 comes with MIUI.

The phone does come with MIUI and there is no AOSP rom for it yet. That's why i mentioned linageOS as it is near stock and the only custom rom as of now.

We just have to wait for kernel sources. Then maybe (i hope) we will get more developers for Mi Max 2. If yes, then we will probably get for example AOSPX and many more

AOSP or LinageOS etc.?

Hi!
So I'm wondering if there is an ongoing developement of AOSP or LinageOS or other atlernatives for the Mi8, and if we will see any official beta release anytime soon?
I'm sick and tired of miui and all the system apps that's impossible to remove, and they keep fighting back to be default app. Grr! I would very much like a cleaner build, and would gladly be a beta tester. Although my experience from Mi5 is that miui felt more responsive than the linageos nightlies, I would rather have that and be able to choose my own apps.
Would I be even better off with this new Treble stuff?
Load MIUI 10 onto it, or global MIUI 9. Have no issues with default apps on MIUI 10. Had that with the original MIUI 9 China-rom though.

Are you able to remove all the Mi apps? Video, wallet, app store etc?
The fact is that I'm most fond of as close to stock android I can get, which is why I want AOSP. If it was possible to build AOSP on my own and still get camera, GPS and stuff to work as it should, then I'd do that.
I think it's better to have a rom built without bloat, rather than try to hide it afterwards.

Can you guide us into this MIUI 10 thing? I have china rom and unlock bootloader. No Root/TRWP or anything.
Just follow the steps here; https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/8-7-12-v2.44949/
You need TWRP.
Or wait till sources are released and there will probably be development available for AOSP/Lineage.
I have installed a treble rom (I think the RR one). The rom is working well but I went back to MIUI as Oreo doesn't support the notch yet.

Cool, was everything else than the notch working as it should? The notch is not important to me..
Aosp would be very good, always my first choice to use. Lineage can wait [emoji3]
Hope we have devs who waiting to cook the stock roms[emoji3] Otherwise I have to sell my mi8 and buy a OnePlus6[emoji26]

Currently running MIUI10 beta from Xiaomi.eu though. It's not perfect or as close to AOSP/Lineage yet but it's a TON better!
Ok Google still doesn't work & it's still on 8.1 though but it's still better than the MIUI9 mess

Where are all the custom roms for the A2?

I'm sick of this buggy Android one "experience". I wanna flash a custom Rom but guess how many exist for the A2. 0 Roms exist. None. I know I should be patient, but it doesn't even seem like there will be official lineage os for this phone. Are there no developers for this phone? (outside of the hex kernel developer, thanks for developing the kernel!) It sucks that all the attention was taken away from the A2 by the Poco.
Edit: I'm not fond of the idea of converting to 6x.

Just out of curiosity, If you want so much a custom ROM, why don't you develop It yourself? Don't you think it's a bit too much to complain that no one took their free time and knolowedge to make your free roms?
That are so many people complaining that I'm seriously thinking of developing one and charging for It. How much would you pay for It?
Stock rom is full of bugs. Also it is not pure android it has some hidden bloatware (mi store etc).

Good question. I have no experience in rom developing or any kind of developing. I guess it does sound a bit selfish. But it's just that this is a nice phone and it doesn't have much development. Heck even my ZTE Blade V6 and Huawei p9 lite had more rom development.
I've never considered how much I'd spend on a rom. So I don't really have an answer.

For the MIA1 we have had to wait around 1 year for official lineage and around 8 month for unofficial version...
It will come for the A2, but not today.
And idem, no bloatware in my A2...

same here, I will wait for that day to come... I already unlocked bootloader (not fastboot unlock critical).. my earliest plan is to change to treble rom... but since it's pretty buggy here and there based on the comments that I've read , I canceled my plan and will wait for official pie update,or official custom rom such as lineage, arrow os or resurrection remix to come to our device, I will appreciate it ?

Caping isn't a bloatware, it's a preinstalled app on phones planned to be sold on taiwan market.
It isn't preinstalled in all phones, you can read this in the thread about this.
No need to install a 3rd party launcher, for example I use easyshortcut maker to explore inside my phone.

Look at how much development the mi a1 got tho.
Just a quick question. Isn't there loads of ROMs for this device or why is there a whole section about it named Xiaomi Mi A2 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development ?

Read the thread and you'll find the answer.
In short, no, there are none A2 specific ROMs in that thread and only one custom kernel. Others require you to convert to 6X or are Treble ROMs.
since mi a2 has project treble support, so why not you visit project treble thread

Before official pie comes to a2, I managed to try pixel experience, aosp extended and arrow os from that thread..

Best ROM for pure android (one plus/pixel) experience

Hi everyone,
I have had a Google Nexus 5 and a one plus 3, so the experience with MIUI feels strange.
I have tried with china, global and Xiaomi EU ROMs.
I have seen here in xda a ROM call pixel experience
I wanted to know your opinion about the best option.
And this pixel experience ROM does anyone know how much time takes the updates from China ROM to be in this one? Will it work on android Q beta?
Thanks!!

MIUI is very divisive, I'm on the hate it side.
Pixel experience, as the name suggests, is a modified version of the Pixel phones ROM. So it will be more to what your used to. Personally I've never tried it, as it has too many Google apps baked in for my liking.
There's the Lineage ROM, which is also very close to a stock Android feel.
Finally, there's the Resurrection Remix ROM, which is based on Lineage but cherry picks from a variety of other ROMs to give much more customisation and features.
In time there will be a more ROMs arriving, quite possibly an Oxygen OS ROM.
All of these are based on AOSP, so have no reliance on the stock MIUI, other than for the vendor images. At the moment the dedicated ROMs are still in early development and have a few issues to iron out, mainly flaky FP sensor performance, but are stable enough for daily use.
There's also GSI ROMs too. Though these have a few extra issues over the dedicated ROMs. I'm using the Havoc GSI and the small number of issues with it don't really affect me (except the flaky FP sensor, which isn't too bad to live with)
All of these ROMs will want an official ROM installed first, before flashing, to ensure the correct vendor image is installed. I wouldn't recommend installing over the Q beta ROM directly.
Thank you very much!!! Your explanation is really helpful??

This guy @Robbo.5000 knows what he's talking about! Listen to him! Personally, I'm waiting for the OxygenOS rom considering that I've previously had a Oneplus. MIUI, is a hit or miss, in my opinion. That being said, I can live with it till the time a stable OxygenOS arrives. Best of luck!

"Mi Services" out of box installed? Do i really have plain Android One?

Hi Guys,
just got my new A2 and i am a bit confused. It has a Mi Services App running for opt in and some other Mi App installed which i cannot uninstall. Do i have the right Android Version? I did an OTA update but that hasn't changed the fact
If i don't want those apps, which Android 9 ROM can you recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Mi services are an opt in component. They are used by mi to collect some user experience info so as to improve upon the product.
The other mi app is the mi community app which is like any other forum found in companies like one plus etc. That too can be uninstalled... Other then that, this is pure android.
Trust me, stay on stock as long as you are getting updates.... there's no reason to switch to custom roms so soon

what about bugs? Everyone is saying differnet things
I heard android 9 havoc has almost no bugs, thats why i was thinking 9
you can disable those apps with adb commands keeping the stock rom (cant remember exactly how but it's definetly possible)
the apps are providing the feedback function (so you can report bugs if you find any) and support for the camera app - which is the miui camera instead of the stock android. (you can always install another camera app and use that instead)
