BlueBorne and Android M - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, I am currently using CyanogenMod 13 with Xposed and Root. Is there a way to apply the September security patch for BlueBorne on this ROM? I really don't want to leave Xposed because of this.

Development for Marshmallow is obsolete. You'll have to do it yourself if that's the case. Build cm13 and add in the security patches. Every other developer are working on Android Oreo so I highly doubt that anyone if going to take on such project. As I said, learning to do it yourself is your best bet.

Magisk seems very interesting, is it stable for this device? Is it compatible with non-stock ROMs?

Magisk works great for our device. There are also different modules that can be flashed for Magisk as there were for xposed. Magisk is great as it does not trip safetynet and some apps that won't work because they detect root would work when having magisk installed. I suggest you too google "Magisk xda" and go to the subforum and read as much as possible to learn more about it.

What's up with the lack of Nougat roms with this device?

I respectfully ask this question and have no intention to
offend any devs. I am currently planning to buy this phone and when
I looked at here to check on roms that I could use on my phone, I got a little overwhelmed by the lack of Nougat roms.
It is already almost 2017 and the roms are usualy lollipop or marshmallow. I expected at least to see Nougat roms.
Did the devs stopped supporting this device or about to?

yeah I am aware of the unofficial cm 14 rom but still, only one nougat rom.
I still expect more nougat rom since this is a popular phone
I read somewhere that this cm 14 rom has a lot of problems like not being able to receive and make calls. Heaven forbid if LTE with Tmobile sim even work on this rom. But correct me if i'm wrong.
I have been able to make calls with the latest build of the VZ rom. However this ROM is no longer under development since Cyanogenmod is dead. All the developers using cyanogenmod as their base are going to have to shift to something else or else they will be working with a stagnating code base. I'd expect a small period of little development for many ROMs while this shift takes place to directly using AOSP as their base or the spinoff of CM LineageOS to get up and running. As for the lack of Nougat ROMs at all. N has only been out since around Aug, and the note 4 isn't exactly a recent phone any longer. So you've got a dwindling user base with an even smaller base of developers that have the knowledge to build the ROMs still using the phone. In the end I wish the dev of that VZ Nougat ROM kept working on it. Likely all of the code fixes could be merged into LineageOS since it is the CyanogenMod code base

I use the 12/25 build as a daily driver. The only issues that affect me is: Camera(fixed with another app), Gallery(fixed with another app), sometimes screen wont wake up easy If you are on a long call.(this is rare for me). No VOLTE. Other than those things its a great rom.

I've tried installing the [ROM] [7.1.1] [UNOFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 14.1 ROM(Verizon) on my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 but am having issues with it once it reboots. The root seems to be lost and once I use SuperSU to install Root and the phone just boots in a loop. I'm guessing this has to do with the bootloader(Note4) vs Verizon. I'm not sure but could be wrong. Could someone please suggest a way to get my root on this Verizon Nougat ROM.

Don't use supersu with this rom. I learned that it's more of a headache than not. Enable developer options. CM's Root access is in there. I'm on EPJ2 baseband. Also make sure you download the extra file in the OP (Something telephony, i can't remember). You need that If you ever restore a backup or you won't have data. This rom seems to be the most battery-friendly rom I've installed for this phone. Even tho I do miss Fast Charge...

I think there will be no android 7.0+ touchwiz roms until samsung release official 7.0 for note 4.and sadly samsung already announced there will be no 7.0 for note 4.

I haven't tested it. I figured it was base stuff on it and I don't like basic.

this is the ORIGINAL development thread for that rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/emotionos-t3528639
its Emotion OS which is based on LineageOS (formerly Cyanogen Mod 14 aka CM 14 ). Its Nougat rom AOSP pretty much, it works fine on the N910T, ive tested and you can verify it works from the posts in that thread. You must be on a 910T Marshmallow based bootloader or the rom may not work correctly. verified working fine on EPJ2 bootloader.
So pretty much if you want it to work:
ODIN official N910TUVU2EPJ2 Samsung firmware
install recovery
flash EmotionOS from recovery

We don't need official Nougat for Note 4 for that. Just wait until Nougat is completely released for S7/Edge, and there will probably be a S7 Nougat port to the N910F/FD/T/W8/V/P/G. Plus, we'll also have an S8/Edge port (I'm sure) and that will probably be Nougat, so don't get your hopes down.
I have Nougat on my Google Pixel XL.
It works great and custom AOSP/LineageOS ROM's are all rock solid/stable.
But with no sign of Xposed being available for Nougat anytime soon, I would not be in a rush to move to Nougat if I were ya'll.
As of today, it does not look good for Xposed to ever be fully released for Nougat.
And even if it were, you'd be looking at more time before all the GOOD xposed modules are updated to work with Nougat.

There's no Xposed (nor will ever be?) for Nougat. Most of us can achieve the same results for the stuff we had in Xposed, perhaps a custom ROM or even some Magisk module.

xuimod is not working on my Huawei 5.1 running nougat 7.0

hi there my set is huawei p10 plus and I rooted this succesfully.after that I installed xposed for arm64 unofficial.then I installed xuimod 2.3 latest version but after ticking it from module and then reboot my list animation does not working.I rooted my devise only to use this effects and animations.now what can I do to fix it?
then report that here
i said report doesn't mean you would be able to complain thereof. you shoulda known first-hand that this particular Xposed build, which is SDK24/25, is UNOFFICIAL thus highly unstable and has lotsa problem to be addressed.

You probably can't. Lots of things have changed since that module was last updated in 2014. Highly doubtful it will work ever. Unless the dev updates for Nougat.
You do realise Xposed Unofficial for Nougat mostly works on AOSP roms (Lineage etc.)
Plus, why are you complaining. You know there's bound to be issues.

Xposed for Android N?

Does any body knows how is Xposed working for android N on any roms and what modules are working? i've been on marshmallow ever since and the only thing preventing from upgrading is xposed. So any information will be appreciated for anybody upgrading to android N.
I'm using the unofficial port on RR and it's working pretty well. There aren't many modules that work though.
i hope that more modules can be compatible with this new unofficial vertion of xposed so that more people can update to N and in the near future to O as well...

If you Google Unofficial Nougat Xposed modules, the first result should come up with an XDA article of working ones.

Magisk update and Android 11?

Hello everyone,
I just received a new Magisk update. Does it mean that I don't need Canary for android 11 anymore? Since there's a new version?
I am just afraid to root with Canary, heard stories and don't want to take the even bigger risk.
Thanks
I'm currently on canary with 11. Having no issues.vehat are you referring to?

You are still on 10, waiting?? Pretty sure you will still need canary to root 11. What does the changelog say on your stable version? Until it says "supports Android 11" you'll still need to use the canary version which by the way is quite safe if you are using pretty much any mainstream phone. There is no risk at all. Use canary to patch the stock boot image. Put both in the same folder. Flash the patched image. If you don't have immediate success, you simply flash the stock boot.img and you are back to stock. Any stories you heard are just that... stories.

The new Stable Magisk Manager (8.0.0) is fine to use on Android 11. The latest Beta Magisk (21.0) is also fine to use on Android 11. Both were just updated to be Android 11 compatible. Soon the Beta Magisk will be moved to the Stable channel once any bugs (if any) are worked out.
By the way, the latest Canary also works fine on Android 11.
Installation instructions and documentation have been updated. https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk
Thanks for answering ?. I'll see if it says supports android 11. Yes I was on 10 waiting, root is a small risk, but Canary is a bigger one that I didn't want to take. Hopefully it supports it and I can root to Android 11.
By the way, do you know if the Soli motion sense module works with Android 11?
Thanks in advance

The latest Beta does support Android 11. https://twitter.com/topjohnwu/status/1312342107139440640
Make sure you set the channel in the Manager to Beta.
I don't know anything about the Soli motion sense module..

It's ready to go now. Latest version 21 (MM v8.0.0) stable supports 11. I don't use the Soli module so can't comment on that.
