Cofface to Official TWRP? - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

I am using Cofface TWRP 3.0.3-0 on my device right now, and would like to update to the official TWRP 3.1.1-0
Is it safe to just flash the official recovery img to update my custom recovery or is there anything else I should do?

Yes it's save to flash

Okay everything went well but the official version seems to be asking a password, I assumed it's the one I used as a phone lock but it fails whenever I use that password
Flashed back to cofface's twrp and It doesn't have this lock
Any idea on what to do?

EDIT: I think i know what you mean, TWRP is not working well with lollipop, is that it?

no just checking you installed the correct recovery, for lollipop you should have the latest recovery, that's all
I can't either get root or flash a ROM without access to recovery?
what else can i do?

I think i did that, isnt that what RUU's suppose to do?
Anyway, here's the log and last_kmsg if anyone knows how to trace this

I was told that since i replaced parts i might have replaced a part thats not the same as the original one and that i would need to make a custom recovery. I've already download the kmsg report (http://pastebin.com/USayUFqx) i just need some eyes that understand whats happening.

Passworded TWRP? Chinese? WUUT!?!?

Ran into a pretty big issue here and I'm not sure where to go. I've downloaded the HDX Mokee version and flashed it with the GAPPS from this thread. All went well until I rebooted and I see is a white box and then it boots into Chinese? A screen with a button came up and naturally I was gonna try to go through the installation so I pushed it and it rebooted my device into TWRP. TWRP went into a boot loop. So, I reboot into the bootloader and reflashed TWRP. I can now access twrp BUT there's NOW a password attached to my device...how the hell? I went to reflash the Mokee zip in bootloader thinking maybe it was a bad flash but i cant as it's a zip and not an img file. HELP lol!

Start over from scratch. Word to the wise. Avoid the China based roms. There is a reason they are only on China based devices.

So take it back to stock recovery and rom and then start over from there? Currently I can't flash anything in twrp. It's all bootloader.

flash a factory image, become completely stock again. if you want to, reroot and flash twrp as well. then if you want, try flashing that rom again.

OnePlus 3T Recovery Loop

Hello lovely XDA-members,
this morning a new OTA update/patch came out for my OnePlus 3T, so I downloaded and tryed to install it right away. My phone is rooted on android 7.0 and I have TWRP 3.0.3-0 installed as my recovery. Normally (when I updated to nougat) after downloading a new update the phone reboots itself into TWRP and installs the update by itself, but not this time. I had to seqrch through my phone and had to install thw update manually. After that I rebooted the phone and it started booting the TWRP recovery again, I tried it again and again and again, nothint changed. So I tried to restore my backup with everything functioning, but this wouldnt help either. :/ I read the few existing threads with this problem and heard of a recovery flag that isnt cleared and the bootloader being the problem. One solution that I found was only for an LG phone and I'm afraid that I'll brick my brand new phone I have absolutely no idea what to do now, I would be so happy if someone could help me with this :$
I thank you in advance <3
Encoutered the same problem. Either you reflash the official or twrp recovery (neither did the trick to me) or use this "emergency tool" (which helped me):
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/unbrick-guide-oneplus-3t.481214/
Btw: TWRP 3.0.3-0 is not working well, switch to 3.0.3-1 beta
Good luck to you
I had the same problem.
How you can ''unbrick it'':
1. Flash a any rom available for the oneplus 3t via twrp
a. after this you will be still in twrp bootloop, to solve this go to step 2
2. Flash back stock recovery via twrp
Now your system will boot again
Optional: Flash back twrp
Just flash stock recovery via adb and you're done. It will fix the problem, you won't lose any data

Tell. Me exactly what u did..
Try : default_password if this doesn't work.. Then m sorry my friend u have to format full data..
Its asking for the encryption password. The default password is "default_password" (without the quotes) try that. And if doesn't work then enter Bootloader (fastboot mode) and enter the following commands into CMD.
Code:
fastboot format userdata
Code:
fastboot format cache
Code:
fastboot reboot
This will unencrypt your phone and you'll be able to boot/enter TWRP normally.
Please do note that you'll lose ALL of your data from the commands.
Also, I'm not sure about this but you also might need to flash TWRP again.

If you have set a pin as security try putting that in.
If you haven't then you can do above mentioned methods.
Finally Solved the problem! Thanks guys! I flashed my previous rom and everything worked. The problem seems to be in the twrp itself.

How is this possible?
Firstly, if u cannot enter into TWRP, then how did you flash the ROM?
Secondly, even if you somehow flashed the ROM how does it do away the password error ?? Did it replace the recovery? Recovery image is not usually included in custom ROMs.

I know right!?
I was running out of options. i thought why don't i flash the last rom that was running on this device. i can't explain how or why. I flashed the twrp again and than the rom. i can't explain but it installed the rom. It worked.
So you froobs can't read the dm-verity warning on TWRP page and just flash the one damn zip that prevents from this.
And the problem is in Kernel and firmware
I had trust in XDA-members. But the faith is gone.

Wait, were you able to get past the twrp password thing without formatting just by flashing the rom? Why did you have to flash twrp again before the rom? Did you do a clean flash or dirty flash? Your internal drive was not wiped?
My problem is basically that I was unable to get into my phone so I deleted the 5 gatekeeper/lockscreen keys from data/system. Now I can only see the wallpaper and a blank screen that doesn't allow me to do anything. It doesn't let me allow me to set a new pin. TWRP is asking me for a password that I never set. I've been trying to figure out how to access my data without formatting, but I'm running out of options too..

Your signature doesn't mention a OnePlus 3 or 3T. But if you're using one of these, then I suggest you try the Blu Spark 8.61 TWRP from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...vice-development/kernel-t3404970/post67463496

Maybe he used SuperSu to root? I dont' see a dm-verity zip for that. You have to use the bluspark TWRP posted above this reply and set your password in the ROM through another app or through the system settings in that case. I had the same problem. Also, I could have used "default_password" but I didn't know that until after I did all the fastboot flashing...
Or do you know of another zip SuperSu users can flash?
The password which its asking for is the one which is our lockscreen password
OxygenOS encryptes our devices with the password we enter on lockscreen so to decrypt just enter the same password

phone not passing twrp splashscreen

I was running Freedom OS CE 2.5 and I dirty flashed official OOS 4.1.0 and got into a bootloop.
I restarted the phone into twrp and it told me that it was read only so I wasn't seeing any zip files. I tried to use repair in the Wipe section by changing file format. I think I chose FAT...I honestly can't remember. But when I swipe to repair and I got stock on updating partition. So I restarted the device into twrp again but this time I'm stock on just the splash screen....won't start.
All I'm getting into is bootloader mode.

Use fastboot to wipe recovery and flash TWRP again. Alternatively, directly sideload your ROM.

You should reformat those partitions that you've changed. Ext4 or f2fs for /data and ext4 for all other partitions. This can be done through either fastboot or TWRP.

3.0.4-1 has proven to be the most stable so far.
I've also been using 3.1.0-1 for a while and haven't noticed any issues.
Avoid 3.1.0.0 though, as there has been many reports of issues with it.

I faced a similar issue with twrp , just try to flash twrp again using fastboot mode , in case it does not work again then try to flash it a few more times , it would surely work , I have already tried it , but before that try to factory reset ur phone using twrp and reboot to twrp and only use the first method if the problem exists after that
