Google Camera with HDR+ Ported to Snapdragon 820/821 and 835 Devices - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

This in no way shape or fashion is my work. I found this and it's working great on my S8+and is also working on my Note 8.

I did the same thing. Don't feel bad.

It didn't work on my phone at first. I had to reboot the phone then it worked fine.

This works so much better than the stock HDR feature - it's actually one of the main reasons why I insisted on a Snapdragon model.

Does anyone know the video recording limit on this camera app ?

Also does it work side by side with the existing cam? I will be able to chose whichever cam I want to use?

There should be a download link on the post, it's right above the interview with the developer. Yes, I have them both installed on my home screen and they both work fine. Just install it like a regular apk.

Seems Note 8‘s camera works as well as google camera?

Is there somewhere that explains the differences in the various algorithms? I searched around but found only bits and pieces.
Also, it would be nice if someone could post which settings actually work for the Note 8. I tried a few and some wouldn't save and others
(I'm not a big camera buff and really don't use my phone's camera that much, otherwise I would.)

I'm seeing people state that the Google Camera is a bit better than the Stock Samsung one, but my experience is the opposite. Google Camera is giving me bad low light performance. I even used setting from the forums and was still subpar. What settings are you guys using?

I couldn't get this to work on my AT&T Note8 un-rooted.

Unlocked non-rooted on Verizon and installs fine. Samsung Camera is far superior including with HDR so I'll un-install now...

Not correct. Works on Exynos too but if you try to make any changes to settings it'll crash. Only way to revive is by clearing storage from settings!
However I didn't find it significantly better than stock camera and night time/poor lit/dark conditions photos are definitely better with stock camera.

So based on you're experience which camera app would you suggest? I am kind of shocked to find that the camera app is so slow. My Blackberry Q10 is very quick compared to my Turbo.

I really like the Google camera app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera&hl=en
Unfortunately on the turbo it still does have some lag. Hopefully that will be fixed with future OTA updates.
The main thing I like about Google's app is the option to take photosphere images and panoramas. I know the stock camera app does panoramas but Google's app allows for much higher quality images.
I have taken some really awesome images using this app.

Do you see this as well on your install?
Yes, those resolutions are correct for the Turbo camera (even though they say a lower MP).
The 5248x3936 is the same as the full 21mp (Standard) mode, and the 5248 x 2952 is the same as the 15.5mp (Widescreen) mode. Assuming that this is what your asking?
Exactly what i was asking. I figured it was cosmetic. Just wanted to be sure.
I will the first update might have sped up my camera. When I left the store it was slow, as I read about. Next day I searched for updates and got one. My camera is normal now. The only issue I notice is swiping to pictures from the camera, it swipes right away, then the screen "blinks" real fast. Might try a different camera to compare though.

Note 4 AOSP state

Just wondering how well does AOSP work so far for Note 4?
Do all features work without glitches? Are there still problems with Samsung not releasing drivers/documentation causing serious bugs and glitches? How is samsung-specific hardware (like S-Pen or fingerprint reader) functioning on AOSP builds?
I'm considering Note 4, but I want a phone with well working AOSP (for example Note 2 has a lot of issues, especially in Lollipop versions, presumably due to lack of Samsung's documentation).
Basic ly you lose all extra features with aosp
Crappy camera no pen. This is with all samsung phones
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm aware about loosing all fancy samsung S-Pen apps but how well does S-Pen work technically (does it support right-click via pen button for example? This feature got cut in Lollipop on N2 for some reason so I'm wondering if it works on N4).

Again two phone were mentioned and I have no idea which you are referring to. I'll assume Note 4 .
Everything works fine. Even camera and sPen. UHD recording works. Battery life is ok. You'll get around 12-18 hours of moderate usage. Of course you will loose TW features but you should already have known that. If you don't use action memo, S-health, S-whatever, KNOX or use the downsize app feature (Which nothing supports it anyways) then you will be fine.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. If you have another Samsung accessory like the Samsung Gear 2 then you don't want to use anything but TouchWiz. Samsung has locked out paying customers from using them on anything unless it is running BloatWiz, I mean TouchWiz.

S-pen works fine. FV-5 camera is great and UHD recording works fine. Currently the finger print sensor is not supported, but might be in future versions, most of the code is there already: Google pulled it at the last moment cause Apple bought the company but most was uploaded already, so it should be doalbe to support it.
Battery is the same as TW. ROM is stable, no crashes or weird bugs.
Anyway make sure you buy the snapdragon variant if you want AOSP: Exynos chipset is not yet supported and I'd say you'll see the Note 5 in the shops before the Note 4 Exynos AOSP is stable.

Yeah. s-pen Air view/command just works as in TW. And you can link ejects of the s-pen to an action (like opening your favourite memo). However you can not select and copy/paste a part of the screen although it should be easy to write an app for it, maybe it even exists (it should just overlay the screen with your sketch and then copy/paste that area).

There are several camera apps. The CM12 stock cam, the google cam, the FV-5 cam, open cam, snap cam, just to name a few. I don't like the CM12 stock cam too much neither but the FV-5 camera app is pretty good. It costs $3 though but those are $3 well spent in my opinion You don't need the Cm12 ROM to test them of course, they run on any android platform, so check them out, all available in the app store.
The Samsung cam app is indeed quite nice though, that's one of the few things Samsung actually did right

That I know. I was being silly.
I had CM12 on my note 4 for a couple of weeks, it wasn't stable enough for a daily driver really, some of the issues I had:
- Overheating, the phone gets hot, really hot, not just normal warming from charging or heavy use. On one occasion the phone smelt like burning electronics, i thought it was going to be dead.
- Camera is unstable, on first launch it was okay, subsequent launches gave an error of unable to connect to camera, only a reboot fixed it.
- Battery life is aweful, on echo i charge once a day on CM12 I had to charge 3 times a day.
- Random reboots, the phone would reboot then get stuck on the CM loading screen.
(I have the N910G,things maybe different on the N910F)
Yeah according to above replies N910F is considerably better than C edition (Apparently Exynos documentation still sucks way more than Qualcomm's?).
Thanks for the answer though, now I know N910G is completely off limits for me.

GCam for S9

So I was looking through all the current GCam builds, by that I mean all those modded ones, and I think I found the best one for Snapdragon phones. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/cstark27_GCam_5.1.018_24_v3.6.apk
The Pixel2Mod one is the best, but requires a device whitelist to work. So, you know, it takes time.
@Arnova8G2 could you please add starqlte, starlte, star2qlte and star2lte
I think those are correct.
The one you posted crashes completely on my S9 Snapdragon. It works on yours? It won't go anywhere past accepting permissions.
The one I have that works is named gcam_5.1.018.177470874.41362666_SG7Exy_V8.2.apk. Looks like it's for an Exynos, but at least it runs.

I did a quick spin around looking for Gcam.... man, there are a lot of options! (and opinions)
This thread here has a 'stable' one with HDR+. And an additional one which is the 'best' for portrait.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/pixel-cam-hdr-s8-exynos-nougat-t3729169
The v8.2 one I referred to specifically is from the S7 forums, here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/themes/google-camera-portrait-mode-t3736859
I just installed a few but haven't had any opportunity to really test them out much. Phone is not my daily driver (yet?).
I installed one that is working but makes the phone very hot. Uninstalled it with away.

What is the latest Google Camera version that works on this? (Exynos)

I tried lots of ports and different verions, even those that were made explicitly for the Note 9, but i can't seem to be able to take photos with any of them.
It "takes" photos, but all of them just result in a black image, top to bottom.
It doesn't happen with one version in particular, it's consistent on all of them.
The viewfinder works just fine, so do most modes, even HDR+. But it can't take photos at all.

I use Open Camera on a Note8 and Galaxy Tab S4 because the Samsung Camera app continuously crashed.
Try this, working for almost all Exynos devices. https://koopahtmaniac.com/getLatest.php

Yes, Open Camera is very good, but it doesn't have the features i was looking for.
On my Note 9, Samsung Camera works just fine, but i was only curious to see how Google's Night Mode and HDR+ work.

The latest one works just fine, but the photos look pretty bad. Night mode gives that pink vignette that was the problem on the HTC One M7/M8/M9.
I wouldn't recommend using it, tbh. You're better off using the stock camera. Or if you really wanna mod it and you aslo have root, just buy Zero Camera Mod and support one of the developers here. You can tune every Samsung Camera parameter with it.
