TMobile visual voicemail - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Not sure if it was my imagination or not, but when I was first setting up the phone (tmo version) I noticed two visual voicemail apps open. Has this device got it's own visual voicemail?
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Not your imagination, I had it also, that's until I reset my phone and then I lost the native visual voicemail accessible from the phone dialer.

I just uninstalled the T-Mobile VVM app. I use the one that is built into the phone. If I want to go back into it it's button is on the dialer.

Mine disappeared after a reset. The button now just dials the voicemail number.
Also, you might want to test that your voicemails will show up there, because mine never did.

It does show up for me. I actually deleted 3 before I took that screenshot. Some people also had that problem with the S8/S8+ but it works on my S8+ too
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

What is the verdict here? I have the T-Mobile Note 8 and when I use the dialer to access voicemail it just calls. When I go into settings there is a greyed out "Voicemail Settings" that I cannot access. All I'm looking for is integrated Visual Voicemail, I never liked having another app.

This is getting really weird. I deleted T Mobile visual voicemail but now I don't have any visual voicemail lol

I am in the same boat. Super frustrating. I'm on the phone with T-Mobile now and they have a Samsung Representative on the line. Waiting to see if they can give me any info. I'm going to try hard resetting the phone if they can't come up with a solution and just never set up T-Mobile VVM.
Edit* T-Mobile and Samsung were obviously no help whatsoever. I spent 30 minutes on the phone and they transferred me without asking to a "Samsung Support Specialist" who told me they transferred me to him for "further clarification on the issue" all he told me was "Samsung has nothing to do with voicemail that's a carrier issue" Thanks for wasting my time. So tired of this carrier specific BS.

Sorry to hear about that. Frustrating to say the least.
I'm trying to remember how I setup my Note 8 and wife's initially. As I don't think she had that dual visual voicemail notifications like I did.
Memory is vague, but one of devices was setup with no sim card present during initial setup screens.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Just an observation, could it be possible that the T Mobile version like ours has the visual voicemail baked in?
Just took another look and posted the following. It doesn't show my old stored voicemail messages. screenshot.

Ok well I had a reddit post as well and I've gotten a little closer but still have not figured it out.
"The following only works with Nova Launcher"
What a user recommend I do is press and hold on the home screen -> add a widget -> under Nova Launcher go to activities -> drag and drop activities on the home screen -> then search for visual voicemail at the bottom.
Now I have a shortcut on the home screen to the baked in Visual Voice Mail (I currently do not have the T-Mobile one installed and I just performed a hard reset) the issue is now when I go to settings in the integrated VVM is there is an option to enable VVM and it says "Select a Line" and there is no number to select. I'll upload the photos.

I replied to another user right below yours. It does appear it's baked in. There's a way with Nova Launcher to create a shortcut for it. My issue is I still cannot get it working.

You also have to enable multi Line settings on the phone, that will get it working.

I actually figured it out Saturday night but thanks. The trick was to enable digits via the web and select the unlock option for my line. Then I was able to get the multi line option working. After setting it up, I was able to sign out of multi line and still receive native vvm. (I signed out due to it showing multi line options everywhere.)
So to everyone who hates seeing multi line options everywhere, you can sign out after setup. What really bugged me about it was in messages with my wife, it listed her device model which took up a line for each message in our thread. Signing out of multi line fixed it for me.

[App] Not liking the htc one m7 stock messaging app? App solution.

This is my first thread. Don't flame me too hard if I put this in the wrong area or did something else wrong. I just thought I would share something that helped me out a lot....
I really dislike the stock messaging app for the one. The look it's fine and it is quick but I have 2 major issues:
1- no multiple picture sending from stock (garbage imho) gallery. You have to individually send 1at a time.
2- no support for adding pictures via quick pic (my preferred gallery app)
I tried all the popular apps for messaging and paid for some of them before immediately deleting them. They were either too slow, didn't do what I wanted, or were loaded with adds.
My solution was textra. (I have nothing to do with this app)
-It is free.
-No ads.
-simple
-It supports multiple sending of images (although sends 1 at a time).
-You can send via quickpic.
-has fully working emoticons (my wife has an iPhone)
If you install it and have sprint, check the "prefer WiFi" in the mms settings for it to work correctly.
I hope this can help anyone searching for a replacement for the stock app.

You are aware you can send more than one pic at a time with the stock app right. All you need to do is click the paperclip again and it'll give you the option.
I use Textra SMS works great you can find it on google play
You guys using Sliding Messaging, are you having MMS/Multi text problems? I wanna make the jump, but all evidence indicates it doesn't work with MMS on Sprint

I haven't found any app that works with group/multi text on Sprint, at least one that responds to ALL from someone elses group text.

when you need to send 4 pictures at a time, pressing the paper clip 4 times and selecting 4 separate pictures takes alot longer than multi-selecting 4 pictures and sending them all at once.

How did you solve it? I'm having the same issue, everything is all grayed out. This happened to me before and I had to do a factory reset, I really don't want to do that again. This incomming call announce just started a few days ago again, and the read notifications aloud is all grayed out under the language and input settings. I have talkback disabled and voice control is turned off. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you restoring any system setting you had backup from your previous phone via Mybackup Pro. That's what was causing problem for me because was restoring system settings I had backup with MyBackup Pro with my S4 and restoring it onto my S5 which causing grayed out on settings.
I never used MyBackup pro. I just transferred my Google contacts. I guess I just have to do a factory reset again. I really do not understand the need for this feature outside of vehicle use. I really don't need everyone in my office knowing who is calling.

Does anybody know how to get voice answering working without caller ID readout? I need the ability answer a call in my pocket while at work, but i don't want it reading out string of numbers, or the fact that my mother is calling. I'd rather tell by ringtone.
I posted the same question in the Verizon section, and the only answer was to turn it all off.
I have all the boxes under (Language and input->Read notifications aloud) unchecked.
bug in 4.4.2
I am on a custom ketan rom

Tried every solution on the various forums but could not disable voice caller id on favourite contacts
Finally I tried this

Even if it is off. ..
Yet untick incoming call.
And lo
The caller id got disabled

After reading many forums and tearing my phone apart, I finally figured this one out. I had the same problem many others were reporting, with anyone in my Favorites having their names announced when they called, even though I'd turned off Talkback and any other voice stuff. What I had noticed was that in Settings/ Language And Input/Notification Readout, all five options were checked but greyed out so I couldn't uncheck them. And "Calls from favourite contacts" was the one causing me all the trouble.
The solution on a Galaxy S5 running 4.4.2 is to use two fingers to pull down the Notification Bar, and then from that bunch of icons you see turn ON Hands-Free Mode (which is the old Driving Mode - it has a steering wheel icon).
Now, go back to Settings/Language And Input/Notification Readout and you'll be able to uncheck all those 5 options. After you've done that, go back to the Notification Bar and turn OFF the Hands-Free Mode. Job done!

Nope turns out you have to modify the build prop as well. I took that last line out and rebooted and I lost tether again. Added it back just now and I got tether back.
So add dun in the APN type and add the no provisioning line to the end off the build prop.

Thanks, Hopefully I can get this to work on my Nexus 6 for T-Mobile.
1a. Use a VPN on connected devices. 1b. Search xda for an app called dnsqache, and follow the github readme on how to set it up, I will warn you though that your MMS messages might not transmit if you do not have dns2 set as what you get when you run the terminal command "getprop net.dns2" and use a browser with a user agent switcher set to your browser except showing a Linux OS
I've added the net.provision whatever and added ,dun to APN type. Running euphoria and my tethering is working fine
Most important is the build.prop change and adding ,dun to APN type. Then you shouldn't have any problems

So I'm currently having issues trying to enable Wifi tether as well.
I added net.tethering.noprovisioning

I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.

That's correct I used SQLite editor because I'm lazy sometimes and its easy when you flash a fresh ROM. I have a screenshot below of what it looks like.
I also added " ,dun " to the end of my APN type in the APN settings. No issues so far.

it is happening, Nougat for Verizon S6 Edge

https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-update/
Because I switched to Tmobile, I can not upgrade by OTA. I am waiting for the samsung upgrade tool. Right now, it does not show the new software available, always shows repair option.
Dang, that wasn't there 45 min ago when I looked
Still can't get the update on mine. It keeps saying "Service unavailable software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later"

Yes, I am sure the servers are overwhelmed. You will need to wait until the OTA server is not overly saturated.

I got it from Verizon Software Upgrade tool. So far so good. I like the battery settings.

After I set the battery usage back form "Mid" to original. I can receive gmail instantly by app Inbox. Probably I setup somewhere to get only 1 notice from Inbox, no duplicate notice from gmail app.
But I can get email instantly, that is important. I believe if you set battery usage to "Mid", it blocks background app to connect to internet, may delay your email notice.

Has the update already been applied? In older system builds, it would ask what you wanted to do and there were three options (first one being "no" or do not apply). I am guessing now you are faced with two options, which are to set a time to update (with a checkbox to automatically apply it without prompting you) or apply now. I have not automatically received the download yet, but whenever it does I will be sure to say no or keep scheduling a time and make sure that box is not checked. Maybe, eventually, it will provide a "no, I will apply it manually later" option but I doubt it. If anyone has other solutions, please chime in.

I didn't apply update yet. But the only option now is to delay it by selecting "later." I've heard that eventually it will install meaning that there are limited amounts of time you can postpone. I found a solution which is to disable these packages.

Nice one. How did you disable these, with an app such as Package Disabler Pro or BK Package Disabler?
guys has anyone noticed the change in there sound quality??? i updated my s6 edge to nougat 7.0 and am noticing the sound quality of my phone has been changed. before it was thick and was like tuk tuk type of sound but after the update its gone thin. there are settings called sound quality and effects but i still cant manage to get back the sound quality which i had on 6.0 marshmallow. are u guys also noticing this change in there sound? or its just me? plz pay attention on ur devices sound quality and let me know if my speaker is damaged or what? and whats the way to get back that thick quality sound on my s6 edge?
Have any of you guys that are on Nougat for the G925V seen and tried out the CFautoroot that's on Chainfire's website?? It's for the Verizon model..
Update: Apparently there's something wrong with Chainfire's website since he's moving everything to a better system and it's not filtering out the CFautoroot for the devices that have locked bootloaders so this obviously isn't going to work so don't try!! I already tried on one and it didn't work!

thank you for the suggestion but mine was already set to "off." it started working normally for several days after doing nothing to the phone but now as of this morning it isn't auto syncing again. i haven't changed anything either which is more puzzling to me.
I will look into this right now. I'd love to update my S6edge a bit more.
It might not work this second. But we might still find an eng kernel yet or a good exploit.
The Exynos7420 board has seen way more exploits in the last year than any other devices.

The app that I used is called package disabler pro. Simply use the search function and it will show you the two packages I've mentioned. If the update automatically downloaded to your phone like mine did, you can simply restart your phone in recovery mode (hold down power button, volume up and home during boot up when you see the Samsung Galaxy logo stuff) and clear/delete cache.
If you want to confirm that you did everything right, go to settings and system updates. The settings app should crash because that option is disabled.

Thanks! It is good to know the downloaded update is stored within the system cache (/cache) and can be easily deleted using recovery mode's wipe cache partition (format). Also, LOL I will be relieved to see the app crash. :victory: Edit: @wolferno Are you using the current version of Package Disabler Pro? In recent months people have been complaining about the software developer removing ability to disable certain packages (at Samsung's request) so they will no longer appear in the list (along with no changelog). System Updates is one of them so maybe they recently re-added it? I read this from reviews on google play store. Also, you might find this post interesting. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69997702&postcount=11 I have the suspicion there may be more to disable to prevent other updates and patches from sneaking in.
Hy guys
I'm italian and I use my GS6 Edge Verizon (SM-G925V)
I have update my smarthphone to Nougat with OTA
All it's ok but there is only problem: the screen rotation doesn't work (gyroscope problem)
I wait some answers
Thanks in advance

Use phone diealer when AA connected

Is it possible to use your phone dialer (using the phone itself) while AA is connected? I have alot of contact shortcuts on my screen for direct dial, but my Mate 20 pro dosnt let me use my phone for making calls while it ist connected to Audi MMI via Android Auto. Like it is blocking the dialer app.
It takes me 1 sek. to make a call when I'm using my phone screen to do this, but when I use cars screen to make a call in AA, it takes ages. And I'm faaaar more distracted from the road then when I'm searching contact on my cars display. So please any advice how to do this?
Did you try to disable "Lock phone while driving" in AA settings?

Yes, it is disabled. Could it be a bug in AA? I have version 5.0.500224.

Latest AA is 5.1.5006, but i don't think this is your problem. I have the same AA version as you, and the setting works on Note 10+. It is probably related to your phone.

Hm... I'll try to download google phone (or some other dialer app) and give it a try. It could be a problem in Huaweis dialer app then. Not happy with it anyway. Samsung has the bes dialer app there is, exactly what I need. Tried to find some port for my Mate 20 pro, but no luck...
I don't think your problem is related to your phone dialer, as I understood, you can't reach your phone's screen during driving with AA in service. Are you able to get to other apps during driving? Usually this is forbidden for safety reasons. I'm even astonished that there is such a setting in AA, but probably this is provided for the case when the passenger is using the phone.

Well I tried using Viber to place a call, and it kind of worked (call was placed, but active call wasnt shown on my screen), so I hat to close Viber from (swipe it from recent apps) to end the call. Other thing I tried is google maps and that also doesnt want to open. Just like the dialer.
Screen itself works on the phone, but seems the apps dont. At least those that are also awailable on AA. I'll try your suggestion to en/disable lock phone option.
For me it is far les risky to tape once on my phone for something I need, like copyng a phone number, direkt dial etc., then to try to find a way to do that on my car screen or to disconnect the USB cable each time...

One more suggestion/question: why don't you try to use voice command to dial numbers? The process is not so fast, especially if there is more than one number defined for each of the contacts you need to call, but it works fine. Just say "Call nnnnn (name of contact as saved in your contacts)". You could make new contacts with only nicknames and one single phone number for all the contacts you need to call during driving, in order to shorten the voice dialing process.

Problem is that I work alot with foregn customers, so it doesnt recognize a German or Croatian name. Also, when a client calls, they mostly have few numbers in their office so I get alot of calls from new numbers during a day. And that is my problem... Or my office sends me a mail that a customer called and I must call back on that and that number. It is impossible to use anything but the phone screen to do all that.
I see. In that case I think I can't help you further. I hope you'll find a solution finally, but before anything, be safe when driving and keep others on the road safe also.

I see you again with your "dialer issue" in separate thread here
I have two points:
- testing Google Maps as a app to be run when the phone is connected to Android Auto head unit is not good idea as this app is controlled via Google Services to be locked for AA only then
- your issue with dialer is probably related to Huawei dialer so try to use the Google Dialer. I know you tried with some dialer but remember that it should be patched. You can try to use one of these dialers:

Hope it helps. Good luck.

Yes, I'm looking for an answer since this way it is difficult to do my job. I do a lot from my car and I try to be efficient. I also save addresses in my google maps on the phone when I'm in office, but now I see when maps are in AA you have no option to see "labeled" things. You can search it by name and it will show, but that means I need to keep everything in my head. But when you save "Warehouse B+S Koblenz" and you have many similar names in your head, it isn't easy. Thank you very much for the dialers. Do you perhaps know if it is possible to port Samsungs Dialer to Huawei Mate 20 pro? I receive daily 20+ phonecalls from unknown numbers (clients) and samsungs dialer shows "contact history" when you receive a call (e.g. it shows a preview of a last message from that number or when was the last call made, all while your phone rings). And for me that was helpful since I knew if that number called me yesterday or 30 days ago. Also, Huawei only shows Country from where the number is coming from, Samsung showed a City name. End when I see Berlin or Frankfurt, I know which client it may be. But when I see "Germany" it doesn’t tell me anything

Sorry I know nothing about Samsung Dialer port project.
First of all try to overcome first basic obstacle (using phone dialer when the AA is connected). So, try to install the Google Dialer and check if it works for you. If you get the satisfactory result it will be a first step and then you can think about next level
