"Android Auto" in 2015 Kia Sorrento? - Android Auto General

I just purchased a 2015 Kia Sorrento SXL AWD last friday, It won't be at my dealer until monday.
I have already set up my account on MyUvo.com, I see that the update for android auto and apple car play is only compatible with the 2016 model.
Its odd that the 2015 and 2017 are incompatible, and even more odd "to me anyways" that the 2014 Kia Soul is compatible with the update to install android auto and apple car play.
Has anyone been able to install the update on the 2015 Sorrento?
I was able to locate the files on this site last year to add navigation to a 2014 Edge Limited that we had. I would sure love to have the android auto software in my 2015 Sorrento.
I used the search and found nothing on this site, I am hoping someone knows something or can guide me in the right direction.

That does sound strange that the 2017 model is not compatible. If you can't flash it you might have to get one of those cheap Chinese replacement head units.

please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I honestly have zero experience with android radios.
From my small amount of knowledge about the OS in the Kia sorrento, the 2015 uses windows CE (i believe 6.0) but the 2014 Kia Soul must use android in order for it to accept the android auto update. I have wondered if I could get the 2014 Kia Soul radio and install it in the 2015 Sorrento.
My question is about the Chinese android radios (if by chance you might know) if I got one of those cheap chinese radios, does it by chance keep the controls for the seat ventilation/heating, and the Hvac controls on the screen amongst any other things that the factory radio controls on the touch screen.

No you almost certainly can't install the Kia Soul radio software onto the Sorento as the hardware is probably different. If you mean the actual radio, possibly but I'd think it would be too different.
The Chinese radios/headunit can vary, some will some might not, but I don't know about Kia specific models though. Just search the net eg
https://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...a+sorento+head.TRS0&_nkw=kia+sorento+headunit
This is for a 2016 but may be of interest

Android 5.0 Lollipop - Nexus 7 3G/4G/LTE

Hello Community!
Is it only me, or is everyone annoyed that our Nexus 7 Tables (2012/2013) Mobile version still have not received the upgrade?
Can't find any info on the web regarding this...
Anyone know why Google takes so much time?
I think the devs are very busy because they need to fix a lot of buggs on the not 3G 4G versions see Android 5.0.1 and Googles priority is also on the new devices
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9195 mit Tapatalk
Maybe, but over a month?
But the only thing different is the 3g radio. How difficult can it be to make a lollipo driver for it? Everything else is common for both 3g and wifi versions.
My neighbour has an LG G3 who just got the Lollipop update today, on 4g. I'm still waiting for the 2012 3g Nexus 7 update I won't buy another nexus device. What's the value in it?
The problem isn't with the mobiles but with tablets. I have a nexus 4 and just got the 5.0.1 update, still with the 4.4.4 on the nexus 7 2012 3G. Maybe Santa will bring a gift...

Would the tablet work, if we flashed an image from the WiFi version?
Obviously the radio and 3g won't work - But I don't use those anyway.
Would the tablet function?
I think we'll never see any 5.0.x release on our N7, since 5.1 seems to be scheduled for February... Google seems so busy fixing bugs in Lollipop that I think cellular enabled nexus tablets won't receive any major updates soon.
On the one hand, it's annoying not to receive updates quickly, but in my opinion it is better to wait a little more and enjoy a stable operating system: for people with the WiFi only version, 5.0 was terrible, but with the latest update the situation improved a lot. I'm looking forward to knowing more about 5.1...
Anyway, I'm happy that Google is really supporting our old N7, and spending time in dedicated bug fixing.

A high-end nexus device from 2012 old?? Are you talking about the same device than the rest of us??

Yes, I consider the 2012 Nexus 7 "old" too. It came out just 6 months after the Galaxy Nexus, and that phone hasn't had official support in over a year (it never officially got Kit Kat). So I agree, I'm thankful that Google is still supporting the original Nexus 7. I'd like it even better if the 3g version was updated too, but I have the WiFi version, so lack of new factory images for the 3g version doesn't affect me directly.

If Google kicks me out on my N7 2012 3G I will lose any desire to buy another Google thing forever.

no company
no company around this planet upgrade their old 2012 devices to Android 5.
only Google do that.
which company you would choose if Google dont produce an update?
The most 2013 models dont get an update.
and sry, i think Google were happy if people change the company who buy over 2 Sears ago a cheap device and cry every new Version for update.

Whereas Apple on the other hand do and have updated their old iPhone 4s, iPad 2 (Both 2011 devices) + their iPad mini (2012 device) with the very latest IOS8+
The way I see it is this; if the hardware can support it why not update your customers software and keep them loyal. If its a case of it being a huge financial burden to optimise their software to make it work on inadequate hardware then fair enough.
If apple are prepared to update older hardware, then so should Google and you should encourage it rather than shoot down anyone that suggests otherwise and criticise them for buying hardware which they might only be able to afford; or are you suggesting we just lavish the rich with refinements?

You pay a lot for apple devices, and that price contain future upgrades. Software develop costs a lot. If you buy top devices you get updates for almost 2 years, and that is not bad. If you buy a 50 bucks smatphone probably you never get an upgrade... So only google upgrades cheap devices, so why blame them? Also the sources are open so every developer can made new roms.

It costs a lot of money and a lot of time to update a device. Google geht no money if they produce an update.
And Apple is a different story. a device from Apple costs three times more than a nexus 7.the Hardware is near identical. nexus7 has a nvidia tegra chip from 2011 and the other nexus use qualcom. so they need more Teams to develop.
Google is a company that need money to work, develop and produce products. i was wondered that they bring out Android 5 for the first nexus7. So if the tilapia get an update....wonderfull, if not ....also OK.
I recall reading a lot of articles and I believe even a quote from a Google employee saying the 3G/LTE models would be getting 5.0 in early December but here we are in January with not a peep from anybody about when it's coming.
Is there any news about Android 5 on 3G version??? It's been about two months now. Anyone?
Android 5.0.2 factory images for Nexus 7 Mobile (2013 and 2012)
Android 5.0.2 factory images for Nexus 7 Mobile (2013 and 2012).
If people have working 2012 models on kitkat (without much lag), might want to wait and find out how other people's reaction to it.
I just installed it. For some reasons, a signature mismatch prevented me from flashing the bootloader, but after a couple of attempts I just skipped that, since my 3G N7 already had the version included with Lollipop (4.23).
I'll let you know my first impressions soon
As it seems, it's just a matter of time for the OTA to roll out...

Fire 2017 Model - How well does Google Play work + Charger port question

I am thinking of buying the current Amazon Fire 7 tablet. Two questions:
1) I understand that you can install Google Play on it. In practice how well does this work?
I had one of the early 2013 Fire tablets. Although you could install Google Play, it didn't work that well especially with Apps that were expecting things that weren't available on FireOs. In the end I had install a custom rom on it, but I understand that it's possible with the current model.
2) On the current model, how strong is the charger port? With the 2013 model it broke after a few years, so I was no longer able to charge it.
Thanks!

Google Play works much better under FireOS v5 than previous builds. Your previous experience was likely with v3 although things weren't much better under v4. That said, there are a handful of apps that must be side loaded as the Play Store believes they are incompatible with the hardware or ROM.
I have not heard/read about systemic problems with the charging circuitry on 5th-7th gen devices beyond sample defects. However, overall build quality of 5th gen devices definitely leans toward 'value'; 6th/7th aren't far behind. Might last a few years with reasonable care.

Will the 7 plus get q?

Looking at the 7 plus as a replacement device for a broken phone in the family. Rather unclear if android q update is guaranteed?
If not I don't think it's a good enough deal even at current discounts...
Sadly the successor (whatever they will end up calling it outside China) does not seem to ship anytime soon...
The android one program will give the device with 2 years update with FOTA & OTA update , 2x update software and more about security patch....
Btw ... The android Q is nothing to be realese but google will realize the android R

Fire 7 2019 worth the upgrade?

I currently have a 2015 fire7 (ford) and works well for what I use it for. Wondering if the 2019 version (mustang) is significantly better in any meaningful way?
Sure it has some physical upgrades, but it's still a dog. Like playing with a potato.
Amazon Fire - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
I think it depends on what you use it for. Comparing the 2015 to the 2019, the main things I notice are a faster processor, 5GHz wifi, and more storage (8GB on the ford, 16GB on the mustang). The screen is the same, and it'll even fit the same case although button layout changed. The 2019 version does support the newer FireOS, although you won't be able to root or install a custom ROM on a new version.
The problem is Amazon really hasn't had the mustang/2019 version on sale often, so paying full price for a ~2 year old device feels wrong. If you can get it around half price and don't mind the limitations, it's probably decent.
Fire 8 plus for what you pay same price and get generation 11 plays more games than last 7 and 8HE although still restricted in a way which Android and google are apart in Amazon fire and appears to be coming soon after years of experience both boosting the 4gig ram and mentioned google.. But Luna is not in UK yet as they go in gaming online it needed the work behind it's own device.

Newest/best Fire 7 tablets that can still be rooted

Bit confused on which ones are still rootable. Looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Fire#Models
It looks like the 7th generation has 5.7.0.0 as the latest supported OS. Did Amazon patch that, or is it still rootable?
I know that some tablets past 7th gen still can be rooted, but it has to be a specific hardware version plus you have to open it up, which I don't really want to do that.
Hey Billybob. I can't speak to the 7th gen Austin model, but I have a 5th gen Ford (2015) and 9th gen Mustang (2019) that are both flashed with custom roms. I believe the Austin is still hackable, but you'll want to review the forums on doing that. Even if they patched it in software, the hardware should still be open.
For the Mustang model, only the early releases from 2019 could be flashed. I was fortunate that I never enabled wifi or connected to Amazon's servers to get updates, but many people were less fortunate.
