[GUIDE] Maximum Battery ROMs with microG - Zenfone 2 Laser General

After seeing sagar321 getting 6 hours SoT, I switch too. Been using AIMROM-v2.0-20170709, which is the best build for battery savings. The latest build v2.5 is not as good for battery comparatively, although it has more rom improvements/features.
Note: Other roms I tested which is battery-friendly
CrDroid v3.4
CosmicOS v2.0
need to check with official forums for best version/build which is battery friendly
My protocol for max battery savings, using my own custom kernel, microG (without GAPPS, but with functional Play Store which you can use to install Gapps), need root:
(battery draining Google Play Services is not installed, but Google Calendar, Chrome, Drive, Gmail, Keep, Sheets work without issues
Google Play won't work, Google Photo won't sync, this is due to microG authentication issues)
- Backup all data, partitions (see my sig below)
- Boot to TWRP, wipe dalvik/cache
(optional: change Cache filesystem to F2FS)
- Flash AIMROM v2.0,
then immediately flash XDA Nanomod PATCHER v13.3 (official thread), this allows the rom to enable Signature Spoofing, which is a pre-requisite for microG. The patching could take a while.
(what this means is you can use ANY rom, including those which do not support Signature Spoofing natively, simply apply the patch
of course select those roms without any Google Apps
battery performance, compatability will differ across roms)
- reboot phone when done, setup phone networks & any other optimal settings, but do NOT create any accounts.
- boot to TWRP, flash my custom kernel v05, (official thread), reboot phone
(important note: when choosing kernels, always check the rom base (aosp or lineage), roms with same base can share the same kernel
in this context, AIMROM & OctOS roms are both lineageOS based so can use the kernel interchangeably)
- boot to TWRP, flash SuperSU or magisk v14 (official thread), reboot phone
then install Magisk Manager v5.3.0, configure Automatic Response to GRANT using Settings
Important note: if using official Xposed for Nougat, SuperSU is a better choice bcoz it works with Greenify. I could not get Greenify to work when Magisk is installed.
- boot to TWRP, flash ale5000's microG installer & google-sync-addon (just follow this excellent guide)
reboot phone, configure microG as described in the 1st post of microG guide
MUST reboot phone
- give all required permissions from Settings > Apps > 3-dot menu > Show System
calendar
calendar storage
contacts
contacts storage
google calendar sync
google contacts sync
google play store
microG services core
must reboot phone
- add new google account
go to Settings > Accounts > Google > myaccount > 3-dot menu > Sync now
verify Calendar, Contacts are syncing, wait for completion, then reboot
- launch Contacts, Calendar
verify your contacts, calendar events are intact
- launch Play Store
disable auto-update apps from Play Store Settings
install any Google Apps you need
give all required permissions for these Google Apps, from Settings > Apps > 3-dot menu > Show System
then reboot phone
sync these Google Apps, from Settings > Accounts > Google > myaccount > 3-dot menu > Sync now
must reboot, launch these Google Apps, if asked to :
Sign-in, simply choose Cancel, the app will work (especially Google Calendar)
- if using AdAway (recommended as ads strain battery & network), make sure to put mtalk.google.com on your whitelist (Your Lists, White), or else problems are likely to occur when using Google Cloud Messaging (ie Whatsapp, Google Apps etc)
at this point, Signature Spoofing, microG, Google Apps work. Most significantly, there is no battery draining Google Play Services.
the next section deals with more battery saving configuration:
- configure kernel as described here, reboot
- install ForceDoze
activate service (toggle)
Settings >
Don't disable sensors on screen off [CHECK]
Turn off while charging [UN-CHECK]
Disable motion sensing for Doze [CHECK]
Whitelist apps : add any apps which need to be ON during screen off, as ForceDoze will kick in, and put those apps to sleep
(I added Whatsapp coz I need the messages to be notified as they arrive, Chrome so my downloads will not be interrupted)
note that apps added to Whitelist will be added to Battery Optimisation as Not Optimised
- install Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings (this app satisfies 90% of my quick tiles)
reading mode/black & white/monochromacy = oreo/nougat quick settings
3g setting = Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings (Cellular data type), shortcutter (yes), tile extension (activity>mobile network>data roam settings)
battery saver = lineage, oreo/nougat quick settings
advanced power menu = Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings (Reboot)
ring mode = Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings (Ringer Mode)
camera = Nougat/Oreo Quick Settings (Camera)
- install Shortcutter
turn ON black/white screen - save battery during standby
other useful quicktiles
system tiles: B&W, power saver, ring mode
action tiles: camera, power dialog
custom tile: Activity (Phone>Mobile Network Settings 2G/3G/4G)
Tile Extension
Custom shortcut (select ETC, system profile), but note that this in not available in Oreo roms
if using LineageOS-15.0 (oreo), which don't have many quick tiles, can supplement with
(good to have)
system tiles: ambient display
auto sync
heads up
ime selector
immersive
location
mobile data
system tiles: network mode? can't seem to get it to work
action tiles: power menu, volume panel
information tiles: data usage
tiles from tile extension
shortcut: ETC. (screenshot)
- Install any other apps required, but do consider
Play Store alternatives:
F-Droid, I installed Open Camera, K-9 Mail, oandBackup, Termux
- Google Cloud Messaging > 3-dot menu > Advanced
set everything to ON/Manual: 30 minutes
(larger ping times save battery, but GCM messages may arrive late
smaller ping times drain battery, but GCM message may arrive on time
your mileage may vary, I tested 10x Whatsapp message during a 3 hour standby, all messages arrived within 1st min)
If there are issues with headphone/speakers/mic, simply install SoundAbout, set all to 'Let Media App decide"
If screen goes black during incoming phone calls,
turn on Power Notification Controls
set Phone notifications Importance to another level (Settings > Notifications > Phone)
or install & use another phone dialer
other mods I've tried
boot to twrp
flash official xposed sdk for nougat
reboot
install xposed installer
flash arise sound mod
working xposed modules
xprivacy, even though internal check error
forcedoze
amplify
boot manager
swipeback
greenify, need supersu, not magisk
gravity box does not work atm, rename original /system/framework/XposedBridge.jar, then replace with version from GravityBox, but this version causes XPrivacy to not work

Just make sure u use the right version of ROM & custom kernel for your model
If there is no custom kernel for your model, the guide still works for battery savings, just skip the kernel configuration (kernel adiutor) section.

[Guide] Comprehensive installation guide for Android 4.0.4 [CyanogenMod 9]

This guide is work in progress and will be constantly updated with future comments and insights.1. Preface
This guide is intended to provide a comprehensive documentation how to install and configure Android 4.0.4 using an unmodified CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) ROM basis on the HTC Wildfire Buzz device. The settings and configurations proposed in this guide focus on stability and battery life and are dedicated to the average user who simply wants to have Android Icecream Sandwich without any changes or modifications once it is set up. Therefore this guide is based on the plain CM9 rather than a custom ROM which uses CM9 as a layer underneath to avoid having a discontinued ROM with additional bugs. At this stage I am assuming that your device is rooted, equipped with Clockwork Mod (preferably cwm 4) and that you know how to flash a ROM.
This guide proceeds as follows. First Android 4.0.4 is going to be installed based on CM9. The reason to choose plain CM9 instead of any custom ROM, is the likelihood to have new unknown bugs with a custom ROM and the possibility that a custom ROM may not be further developed anymore. CM9 on the other hand does not have any major bugs. At this point I assume you know how to install a ROM. If this should not be the case, please study this thread. After the installation of CM9 additional applications will be installed that will then replace some of the in-build applications. Then the in-build applications that are no longer needed will be disabled to increase performance. Finally, I propose recommended settings for CM9 that will increase stability and improve battery life.
2. Required downloads
In order to complete the installation successfully you are advised to download the following files:
2013.01.01_cm-9_UNOFFICIAL-BUZZ_light.zip
CrossBreeder_5.21.13.zip and CrossBreeder_Uninstall.zip
Slim_ICS_gapps_without_chrome_sync.zip
bravo-boot-v1.5.3-CustomMTD.zip and bravo-recovery-v1.5.3-CustomMTD.zip
3. Procedure
3.1 Preparing partitions
Create a file called mtdpartmap.txt with the following single line and place it in the root directory of your sd card.
Code:
150 25
This will reduce the size of your future /system partition to leave more space for installed applications on the /data partition.
3.2 Wiping the device
Now reboot into recovery and backup your existing ROM in case of any failures. Wipe your device completely by choosing the options wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced > wipe dalvik cache, WIPE ALL (Dangerous)
3.3 Flashing recovery
Next flash bravo-recovery-v1.5.3-CustomMTD.zip and reboot into recovery. The option can be found under advanced > Reboot Recovery.
3.4 Installing the ROM
Now we are ready to install the actual ROM. For that install 2013.01.01_cm-9_UNOFFICIAL-BUZZ_light.zip. This ROM is the same as the unmodified ErwinP build but with unnecessary applications removed to reduce the size. version Afterwards install Slim_ICS_gapps_without_chrome_sync.zip which will provide the essentials of required Google Services. Next choose CrossBreeder_5.21.13.zip which will significantly improve the performance of your ROM. Finally install bravo-boot-v1.5.3-CustomMTD.zip to apply your partition settings from above. Now you are ready to boot into your new ROM. Congratulations!
4. FAQ
4.1 I do not have an Email or Calendar app
The light ROM which you just installed does not ship any Email or Calendar app as these two are outdated. Instead install Gmail and Google Calendar from the Play Store.
4.2 I always get the message insufficient storage available when installing or updating apps
You could change the size of your partitions by modifying mtdpartmap.txt. However, it may not be sufficient. I suggest you to install Link2SD and move big apps such as WhatsApp to your sd card.
5. Questions
Yet this guide may not cover all important things which are relevant in the setup process or leaves open questions unsolved. If this is the case for a particular problem you are facing, do not hesitate to leave a comment in this thread.
6. Remaining bugs
The panoramic view of the camera is not working with any camera application available.
It seems that the slide lock screen cannot be disabled. Thus, even if you have changed Settings -> Lock screen -> Screen Security -> Screen lock to pattern for example, you will still have to unlock the slide before you can enter the pattern. Yet I did not find a solution although some custom ROMs that are based on CM9 do not have this unwanted "feature".
Settings -> Battery shows Battery usage data not available. Some custom ROMs fixed this bug. Should be merged into the ErwinP branch.
Settings -> Data usage only shows a blue box instead of a graph. Nonetheless the mobile data limit feature should work.
With the default keyboard Voice To Text cannot be used since there is no shortcut on the keyboard for it. Furthermore, sometimes numbers are not inserted when the letter buttons are pressed and held.
The lock screen needs to be resized in cases it has to display the emergency call notice. This is shifting the lock symbol too much down to the bottom of the device screen.
Search app sometimes seems to be unresponsive and closes itself.
7. Older revisions of this guide
Installation of apps
So, at this stage you have already installed CM9 and subsequently Google Apps. Both are installed by booting into your recovery manager and selecting 'Install ZIP from SD card". Thus you need to copy the downloaded files onto your SD card. Before doing anything else I recommend you to do a Nandroid backup in your CWM recovery software. If anything should go wrong, you can return to this default state. As for the applications I recommend you to install the following:
Apex Launcher if you want to use folders in the dock. Otherwise install Zeam Launcher which is a very lightweight alternative.
Camera ICS
exDialer with the suitable exDialer Black ICS Theme. Use this application if you experience your default dialer to be slow, such as if the dialer or contacts app show black screens for 5 seconds.
Music Folder Player Free. Use this application if you are looking for a simple folder music player that supports a variety of formats.
Opera Mini
QuickPic
RAM Manager Free
Smart Voice Recorder
Solid Explorer
SwiftKey 3 Free
VoiceSearch
Disable unnecessary apps

Once the programs above are installed, we can then disable in-build applications that do not work properly, have bugs or are not as efficient as their alternatives. To disable applications, go to System -> Apps -> swipe to All and disable the following apps if you do not need them by clicking on an entry and selecting disable:
Android keyboard - replaced by Swiftkey 3 keyboard since Android keyboard tends to lag a lot and does not work with voice to text feature.
Apollo - keep it if you want an extensive music player. Otherwise use Music Folder Player Free and disable Apollo.
Browser - replaced by Opera Mini which offers smoother and faster browsing.
Camera - replaced by CameraICS which reduces a few bugs. If you are using slide shortcuts, then remember to link the camera shortcut to the CameraICS application.
CyanogenMod Wallpapers - you will achieve the best performance by not using a wallpaper at all. Hence, you can deactivate the wallpaper package.
Email - can be disabled if you use an alternative app such as Gmail
Exchange Services - belongs to Email and therefore not needed either
Gallery - replaced by QuickPic since Gallery has a lot of bugs.
Google Bookmarks Sync - not needed since Chrome browser cannot be installed on the HTC Wildfire.
Google Search - a lot of users encounter stability problems. If you solely use the browser search bar, then disable it.
Movie Studio - keep it if you use your slow device for movies
News & Weather - may be replaced by national news and weather app
OTA Updater - works not flawlessly. Install updates manually via recovery mode
Pico TTS - not needed if you use Google TTS instead
ROM Manager - not needed. Better flash Zip archives from recovery mode
Setup Wizard - only needed once after a fresh installation of CM9
Sound Recorder - since it does not appear in the application drawer it cannot be used and can be disabled. Please use the alternative Smart Voice Recorder instead.
Voice Dailer - keep it if you want to use it
In addition, there are some applications that cannot be disabled by the method described above. For these applications you need to open Solid Explorer file manager and go to /system/app. Here you will find a list of all in-build applications. Click on the following ones and either delete or move them onto your SD card in case you want to have them back later:
DSPManager - if you do not need any special equalizer settings you are safe to disable it.
LiveWallpapersPicker - as explained above, you will gain the best performance when not using any wallpaper. Hence, live wallpapers can be disabled alike.
Trebuchet - this is the default launcher which is very slow compared to Apex launcher that we had installed before.
System and application configuration
Now with our system being complete we can turn our focus on the confrontational part. There are three components you need to take care of in order to gain the most of your device.
1. CM9
Open the system settings and set the following options:
Sound -> Untick Vibrate and ring
Sound -> Untick Vibrate on touch
Display -> Brightness -> Tick automatic brightness
Display -> Untick Screen-off animation
Developer options -> Window animation scale -> Animation off
Developer options -> Transition animation scale -> Animation off
Performance -> Processor -> CPU governor -> SMARTASSV2
Performance -> Processor -> Minimum CPU frequency -> 176 MHz
Performance -> Processor -> Maximum CPU frequency -> 729 MHz
Performance -> Memory management -> zRam -> disabled
Performance -> Memory management -> Tick Allow purging of assets
Performance -> Tick 16bit transparency
Performance -> Surface improvements -> Disable dithering
Finally, if you want to use your trackball to wake up your device, open the app Terminal and type:
su
trackballwake
2. RAM Manager Free
Open the app RAM Manager Free and select the option Balance for the active profile.
3. Apex launcher
For the last part, we want to configure the launcher which is one of the most important applications to influence performance and battery life. Here I offer you my Apex settings which works fairly well. Unzip the archive to your SD card -> Android -> data -> apexlauncher. Then go to Apex launcher -> Backup & restore -> Restore Apex settings. It should then restore the settings based on what you just extracted to SD card -> Android -> data -> apexlauncher -> apex_settings.bak.
Tips, tricks and troubleshooting
If you need an internet connection only to synchronise your mail and calendar and do a little bit of browsing, then 2G instead of 3G should be enough. This will safe battery.
Have you flashed the latest radio Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10? You can find this information in System -> About phone. If not, follow again this thread.
In case you want to increase the quality of your GPS signal, you can use this patch which can be installed through the CWM recovery software.
If you encounter connectivity problems with your 2G or 3G connection, then go to Settings -> More... -> Mobile networks -> Access point names -> and be sure to have only one saved in there with the correct connection settings. Otherwise your device may try to switch from one APN to another one, causing the connectivity aborts.
If you are using the Yahoo weather app on the lock screen and encounter the problem saying "No data - Tap to refresh", then switch your device into airplane mode and back and see whether it works.
If you are encountering problems related to Google Play Store being closed randomly or other problems, then you might have not flashed Google Apps. To do so, download the ZIP archive and copy it onto your SD card, boot into recovery mode and choose the point "Install ZIP from SD Card".
Wow looks like you had a lot of work with collecting all these informations. I think i'll gonna setup my phone according to your tutorial and have a look if it runs smoother
Very nice!
But may I just say, this probably belongs in the Themes&Apps section.

Did you install Apex launcher and made it the default launcher before you moved Trebuchet? If so, then please go to Apex launcher -> Backup & restore -> Restore Apex settings. It should then restore the settings that you just extracted to SDcard\Android\data\apexlauncher\apex_settings.bak.

Since it is a paid app I cannot say anything about it. Surely, it might be a good alternative, combining camera and gallery. You might give it a try. For users who rather prefer a free options, I would stick with QuickPic and CameraICS.

Thx for the tips, but any ideas to speedup dialer and contacts apps ?
And what about the launcher ? I'm using Zeam Launcher at the moment wich is only 388KB (Apex is 2,1MB)

I do not experience both apps to be particularly slow. Could you be more precisely when and how you perceive this slowness?

I added Zeam launcher as an alternative for all those who do not need application folders in their dock. Apart from that it might be a good alternative though it does not feel smoother or faster to me.

Q&A
1) How to install?
Do it at your own risk. Remember to do a nandroid backup before going further.
You need a rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 International(GT-I9300) with stock android v4.3, boot into recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats. Then, choose "Install zip from SDcard", located your zip file and start install this rom. I recommend not to change the default selection of apps when you prompt to "choose apps to install"(Reason: To decrease the RAM usage and you may install it from Play Store, Samsung Apps Store or others third party store.)
2) Why I don't have all the apps?
Choose wisely from aroma setup and select the apps that you want to install only.
3) Why some of the apps not shown in the app drawers?
Some of the apps is just a link to the main app and provide shortcut within the main app. For example: Gallery app can link to Collage app and it only available when you select multiple pictures and hit the menu button. Under menu, there is an option to "Create collage".
4) How can I get the Travel Wallpaper for my lockscreen?
You can set it by press and hold on empty space of your home screen to get to the instant setting menu or hit the menu button on home screen -> Select wallpaper or go into Settings -> My device -> Display -> Wallpaper -> Lock screen. From the pop up setting menu, choose "Travel Wallpaper" to enable it.
5) How to change to the default S3 camera?
Simply reflash the ROM, and uncheck all of the apps and check on S3 camera and press next to start install and reboot...
6) Why I can't paste the files given to system/app?
It is due to the limited size of system partition which break down your paste operation to system. You can manually delete the apk from here and make sure you are remount the system to rewritable (R/W) before modify the system apk and files.
7) I use My Files, but I can't go into system/app?
You can use Root Explorer or other file manager to browse to these system files and you need to grant permission for these apps and remount as rewritable to modify your system.
8) Why I get this notice "Your system is modify, system update is unavaible..." when I enable "System update" from notification panel?
This is due to the SuperUser apk which has modify your system kernel and it is preinstalled in this Rom. If you want to unroot your device, then you need to go into SuperSU app and fully unroot it using the setting option in it.
9) When I choose to install certain recommended apps like dictionary from Optical Reader, the Samsung Apps give me this message "Product does not exist in this store(4002)"?
This is because there are some specific apps which are mainly distribute for S4 users only.
10) Why the S Memo do not sync memo from my Google and Samsung account?
S Memo in this rom only can sync memo that are created by using this version only.
11) Group Play in this Rom does FC or not?
All of the functions are working now including music sharing.
12) Does this rom flash over my current modem?
NO. This rom work flawlessly with modem ME7 in latest leak stock rom.
13) Google Service drain my battery at peak level.
It is normal when you have sign in to Google account and enable the restore options. But after a few moment (according to your cloud data stores on Google cloud or drive), the battery usage will be back to normal.
14) Why there are two Gmail widgets in the widget drawer?
If you search Google, there are a lot of these problem, you just need to do a hot boot and the things will get it back to normal after all.
15) How do I know that my rom is fully downloaded or not?
Use this MD5 checker to check whether the rom is complete or not...
Copy the MD5 below to your clipboard, extract the zip, open md5.exe and browse to the rom to start the verification of the rom...

PPS: If you not install something, then you will probably miss something. That is natural rules. e.g. S4 features and tweaks category is compulsory to check the checkbox from 1 to 5. For those apps and categories that have mark with " * " symbol and been checked, don't try to ignore them, you must install them, otherwise don't complaint that you didn't get this, didn't get that, can't select wallpaper or blah blah blah...you have been WARNED.

Your work seems like perfect. Thank you. You had your time for it. :good:
Actually I don't care battery life too much. The important thing is ram usage. What about it ? Will it make us distressed ?

[ROM][5.1][PEREGRINE][STOCK]Debloated, GApps-free XT1039 ROM (update - 29.02.2016)

Introduction
This ROM is based on lost101's work, that you can read about here. I used his Retail EU 5.1 ROM (Optimized) v1.1 for XT1039 as a base of my own "project" of further debloating and removing as much Google's stuff as possible. The main aim is to use clean and stable Android and improve privacy. My work is simply removing things from system/app and system/priv-app folders and testing if everything still works, and by "works" I mean that I can use my phone as a daily driver and depend on it.
Disclaimer
Even if everything works 100% fine for me I take no responsibility for anything that happens to anyone else's device after flashing my ROM. If you want to try it, do it on your own risk.

*In case you're wondering why they were not removed from the ROM - they're all being used during initial boot and setup. If you remove them from the ROM the system won't start. If you remove them from the system/priv-app folder after installation you won't be able to do factory reset.
g) Open Dialer and go to Settings > Advanced > turn "Nearby places" off
4. Use Simple Explorer to install all the apps you want. I'd suggest installing firewall and setting it up before inserting SIM card and turning WiFi back on to avoid any unnecessary and unwanted downloads. I personally use AFWall+ (XDA thread, download)
Post-installation setup (v1.0_beta only)
After your device boots you will find the Setup Wizard is not launching. This is normal since all GApps have been removed. Everything seems normal and ready to use, however some crucial UI functions (Home button and quick settings) are disabled - this is also normal. Home button is disabled to prevent user escaping Setup Wizard before it's completed - same for Quick Settings - you can't access them before setup is done. In normal situation unlocking UI functions is handled by Setup Wizard and GmsCore services, but since they've been removed from this ROM you have to do it manually:
1. Go to Settings > About phone > tap Build number 7 times to unlock Developer options > back > Developer options > enable USB debugging
2. Connect the phone to PC and execute the following commands with ADB:
Code:
adb shell
su
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
insert into global (name, value) VALUES('device_provisioned', 1);
insert into secure (name, value) VALUES('user_setup_complete', 1);
.quit
reboot
Your UI is now restored and your phone is ready to use. Please refer to setup instructions for versions 0.9 and 0.9.2 for general ideas what can/should be done next.

Battery life
I'm using ver 1.0 beta (I guess it's not beta anymore as it proved to be working and stable). The battery life is exceptional. Overnight drain is around 0.1-0.2% per hour so you can expect your battery to go down no more than 1-2% when you sleep. BetterBatteryStats (big thanx to chamonix for the free XDA edition of his app) shows that my device stays in deep sleep for about 98% of time. Please note I've got all sync services disabled as well as wifi scanning and all radios but phone (which is in 2G mode all the time), I also use Greenify and the biggest battery drainer seems to be Gravity Screen I use to automate screen on/off with flip cover. Don't be surprised if your phone stays on in standby mode for more than 3 weeks if left in one place with good network signal (vs. official 8.8 days).
In everyday use, which for me means having the phone on 24/7, making a few calls a day and some 1 hour of WiFi/4G internet browsing daily I usually have to charge it once every 3-4 days. Please note I try to keep my battery between 90-10%, so I rarely charge it 100%.
Life after Google
You can try using Micro GmsCore to access Play Store content, and here are some alternatives:
1. Interesting and useful apps in F-Droid store:
- Adaway (system-wide ad blocker)
- AFWall+ (very nice firewall. I use it in whitelist mode because it blocks internet access to all apps by default)
- Etar (calendar. Won't work without Google calendar service and account)
- K-9 mail (bit ugly but awesome mail client)
- Open camera (stock camera replacement)
- Wifi automatic (turns wifi off when you lock the screen which saves battery and improves security. Bugged a little and randomly disables wifi from time to time)
- SMSsecure (messaging app with encryption)
- 920 Editor (text editor)
- Document Viewer (self explanatory)
- Network Log (self explanatory)
2. Other interesting and useful apps around the web (mostly on XDA):
- ApkTrack (app updates tracker),
- Calc+ (calculator),
- CoolTool (CPU and RAM usage and other info display),
- DejaOffice (office app that looks a bit outdated, but it's the only calendar app to work without Google services I found so far),
- Disconnect.me (private web searches; the app FC right after starting it, probably due to lack of Google search services available)
- DriveDroid (turns the phone into Linux live USB),
- ES File Explorer (file explorer),
- Firefox (web browser),
- Gravity Screen (Turning screen off and on without using physical power button),
- Greenify (apps hibernator),
- KWGT (custom widget maker),
- LiveBoot (Chainfire's app that replaces boot animation with system log display),
- maps.me (open source google maps alternative),
- MiXPlorer (file explorer),
- MoboClean (permissions manager),
- Naked Browser (web browser),
- NetGuard (no-root firewall),
- NeutriNote (notes),
- Nova Launcher (launcher)
- Open Camera (same as F-Droid app),
- Parasol (community based permission manager),
- PryFi (WiFi security),
- QuickPic (gallery),
- Recently ("close all apps" button in recents window),
- Recordr (sound recording app),
- Servicely (services management. Think twice before installing and using it - developer's G+ site, developer's APKMirror downloads
- SD Maid (cleaning tool),
- Super Backup (apps, sms, call logs, etc. backup),
- Titanium Backup (data backup),
- True phone (dialer),
- VLC (media player),
- WifiKill (WiFi killer),
- Wifi Protector (WiFi security, anti-wifikill),
- Xposed (sdk22 arm version is the right one for XT1039)
You can find more interesting apps and links on this XDA forum
3. Software that may help you secure your device - sufficientlysecure.org
4. More security software - Secure Mobile Apps
5. XDA Labs (alpha version of XDA app store)
6. Firefox browser add-on that lets you download apk files directly from google play store (without Google account connected to your device) in case you can't find desired app anywhere else.
7. Alternative app-stores, .apk mirrors, etc. - use at your own risk. So far I only tried Amazon's store - the pro is that it exists, the cons are that it requires tons of permissions, has very unfriendly interface, takes a lot of space, and the apps you download will only work as long as the store's app is installed.

Notes
ver 1.0_beta
It's still being tested, but so far everything looks OK. The main goal has been achieved - GmsCore (aka the cancer of Android) has been removed and stock system turned into almost-AOSP state.
ver 0.9.2
- Further debloating and cleaning unnecessary files;
- Simple Explorer replaced with MIxplorer which offers more functions;
- Google Keyboard replaced with open source AnySoftKeyboard which is lighter and not made by Google. After installation go to keyboard settings (I suggest using app drawer icon to avoid FCs in Language and input menu) and in "Special dictionaries" uncheck "User-dictionary" and "Contacts dictionary" options. In "Auto dictionary" sub-menu choose "Do not learn new words" if you don't want the keyboard learn/spy on you.
If you want to uninstall these apps, use file explorer with root access and delete system/app/AnySoftKeyboard and/or system/app/MIxplorer and reboot.
I flashed this beacuse I wanted an even cleaner rom, but I still want to have the google play store. I don't seem to be able to activate it somehow.

Thanks for trying it. The store app was removed from this rom. If you want to use it you need to install it yourself.

If disabled, enable the following services in this order:
- Google services framework*
- Google play services*
- Google account manager*
Enable a service, reboot and test app downloading.
I managed to remove all GApps from the rom and make it work by changing build.prop entry "ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL" to "ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED". It's the way to bypass Setup Wizard on initial boot where all the core GApps are needed. The only problem is that system UI stays in Setup Wizard mode where Home button, quick settings and pretty much all the notifications are blocked which is not very handy, especially disabled Home button. There is a way around it, eg. an app like "Button saviour", but it would be much better to restore UI functions without any bloatware. If anyone has any idea how to do it, please share.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I always used some auto data switch that was turning radio off when screen was off, so I wasn't even aware of such bug.
Now I know this is an old thread.
Obviously the link to the roms are dead but I do have lost101 rom nd followed what you removed. But I don't know what sqlite3 file to add because that link is alo dead. what sqlite file am I looking for to add to the bin folder?
I am trying to create a mp3/audiobook only player.

Thanks for the reply and the ROM but i'm having some problems:
1. No key board, only speech to text
2. Only Chinese and English
3.A lot of Chinese bloatware
Please help
Thanks for this ROM. I installed it today so I haven't got much to say but here's a small review (kinda):
1. Firstly I tried to install micro Gapps but there were no normal keyboard, there was only option - speech recognition so I downloaded AROMA installer and configured Gapps as I like: surely I installed Google keyboard so I could proceed and also changed some stock apps to google apps (camera, dialer, gallery, google pixel launcher). PS. ROM has only english and chinese langs.
2. As always, google play services app crashes until all permissions are given to it.
3. There are some chinese apps that can't be uninstalled by default app manager but they can be easily disabled.
4. ROM has been quite stable for the day duration, location and GPS are working.
5. What's not working for me (might be different from others because of Gappse I installed): live lock screen, clean notifications/recent apps by shaking features, accidental wake-up prevention, also there are some rows with @ and numbers after it which lead to settings app crash. Added: Facebook messenger constantly crashes, APN settings hang.
In total, ROM is stable and fast, definetely a daily driver. Would be nice to have some fixes and it would be a really great ROM! Also I can provide screenshots if needed.
Would be great to know if root is avalaible and how the battery life is. Thx

This ROM is rooted, root menu is available from developer options menu. Battery life depends on profile that is used (from battery saving mode to performance) but if balanced mode is considered, I would say battery life is just a little bit lesser that in MIUI.

Keyboard, install a google keyboard or any keyboard from Play Store. Else, download APK in PC, transfer to the device and install.
Languages - not aware. Probably, removed.
Bloatware - was not expected. But, it was unofficial CM version from Chinese devs, so - it has come in.

APN issue. After entering APNs menu it just hangs and after short period of time crashes and phone reenables SIM cards.
Issue with @random_numbers tapping which leads to Settings crash.
It's very dissapointing for me that I can't add an APN since I have to configure it manually. I haven't tried navigation in google maps yet but I bet they're allright. Will find it out tomorrow.
Unfortunately, navigation didn't work or me. All permissions are given to the app but navigation won't start. Switching to AOSP 7.0 for now, not because of navigation but because of APN issue.

Q :: What is ART and how is difference?
A :: ART is an attempt to make Android faster by improving the app performance and make the device overall smooth. There are several new features in ART, major one being the all-new compilation mode. For those unaware, Dalvik uses Just in time (JIT) compiler whereas ART uses Ahead-of-time (AOT) compiler, that is smarter and can improve app performance. ART improves garbage collection in several ways and also has tighter install-time verification than Dalvik. In ART, the application is compiled just once at the time of installation, thus being pre-compiled that results in improved app performance and less CPU load, thereby improving the battery life. However, it should be noted that app sizes (fresh install) are increased significantly while using ART that could be an issue for devices with low internal storage.
Difference between Dalvik and ART runtimes in Android
Q :: How to Enable ART in This ROM
A:: Flash MIUI_ART zip in recovery and DONE.
Q :: Why so many Chiness Apps in This ROM????:crying:
