[App 5.+] VSB - Virtual Swipe Button - ONE Themes and Apps

I switched last weekto the AOSP Oreo build for our beloved OnePlus One. So there I'm missing the possibility to customize hardware button remapping. Since I also don't like to waste place on my screen with the navigationbar, I polished up an app I developed once for my old Samsung Note 1.
VSB places a virtual button on the bottom of your screen (the grey circle in the screenshot). You can hide it and you can change the size. This button will always be there. So, now you can attach different events on different triggers of that button.
Triggers:
click
long click
double click
swipe up
swipe left
swipe right
Events:
Nothing
Home
back
Recents
open notifications
open Quick settings
open power menu
lock screen
open volume panel
To do this the app needs the following permissions enabled:
android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: to show the button over other apps, otherwise you could not click it
android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: to trigger some events (home, back, power menu, ...)
android.permission.ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY: to open volume panel during "Do not disturb" mode
Downloads:
In the third post.
The app is complete open source: https://github.com/scoute-dich/VirtualSoftKeys and a heavily modified fork of VirtualSoftKeys, which is licensed under the Apache License.
The app can be used on any device running Lollipop+. I just want to share it, because for me it's usefull and I hope for some of you also. This is my way to say thanks to all other developers and to give the great community on XDA something back. If you have suggestions or if you find some bugs, just tell me here or open an issue on Github.

If you could add open app drawer, this would be perfect.. I know I'm a small case scenario, but your dot will interfere with my layout (see screenshot).. If there's an app drawer ( or select app) feature, it'd be amazing.. Oh, and moveable too..
Volume option takes me to do not disturb option, not the volume panel..

1. I don't think, that opening the app drawer is possible. I can't call "a launcher method" from outside the launcher. In my setup the dot also interferes with the open drawer function. But with my launcher (Flick launcher) it's possible to swipe up on the dock to open the drawer. Perhaps you have a similar possibility?
Also with your current settings it should be possible to touch the open app drawer button without clicking the VSB.
2. Moveable would be nice. I will look out for possibilities, when I have the time. At the moment I'm very busy at work and don't have much time. Also this app has a lower priority than other apps, I already published on PlayStore and F-Droid, which also have some outstanding issues to solve.
3. The thing with the volume panel is strange. I used the app on different Nougat and Oreo roms. And it always opens the "ringtone volume slider"...
But anyway, thanks for your feedback. I promise to take a look in the second suggestion.

[launcher] AppDrawer (MIUI App Drawer)

I recently rooted my NST with NookManager, and was looking to run a "stealth" root under stock. I used the Nook Touch Mod Manager to change the LONG PRESS on the 'n' button to launch THIS. After some fiddling with the options, it pops up a single 5 x 8 grid of apps on a white background with black text. You can long press on an app to hide it. Simple and fast.
I'll be happy to post a screenshot if I can figure out how to take one! :cyclops:
This is the best app for a rooted NSTG No need to fiddle with different launchers, it just works as an extension to the B&N homescreen. Thanks for the tip!

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly do you 'fiddle with the options'? The app opens in fullscreen mode, and i can't find the way to get the status bar to show up, tried everything...
my nook simple touch rooted with nook manager, so relaunch is the shell(or whatever it's called) from which i run app drawer...
Thanks!

I had this issue with another app and here is what I did:
Temporarily assign the "Menu" function to one of the hardware keys using NookTouchModManager (unless you have it set up that way already for other purposes--I keep a long-press on one button this way just in case).
When you launch your app you will now have a way to access menu functions even though it is running full-screen. In my case I was able to change the settings on my app so it would *not* run full-screen by default, but that is probably not what you want in this instance. After you have made your adjustments, you can change the hardware key back to its default, although I think keeping both a "Back" and "Menu" option around is not a bad idea.
VERY late reply...
I use an app called Button Savior which lets you add a set of software buttons which expand or collapse when you touch an assigned target point on your screen. (I have mine set to a long press in the lower left corner, and since I bought the pro version I can customize my target to be invisible.) That way I can always get to a menu button if I need one.
Don't have my NST with me, so I can't tall you what version I'm running, but I'm pretty sure it's the current version on Google Play.
I came across this old post and thought I'd look up the app to see what it was like. I've attached a copy below.
This is not actually a "launcher" despite what the thread title says. It is plain-and-simple an App Drawer. But as the OP said, it can provide almost a "stealth" modification of the NST. To me it seems ideal for the person who says "I only want to root so I can run app x--I don't want a lot of stuff on it."
There are a few hurdles to get to that point, so here is a brief outline of steps to get it working:
1. Root with NookManager (update it first if you're rooting FW 1.2.2)
2. Install the app along with a good file manager like ES File Explorer which will give you root access when you need it (ReLaunch can't).
3. Use Nook Touch Mod Manager to assign a button press (maybe a long-press?) to the MIUI app. You can use one of the hardware buttons or (less "stealth") one of the QuickNav buttons you don't use like Social, or Shop or Search.
4. Temporarily assign one of the hardware buttons to "Menu". This is needed because the MIUI app opens in full screen by default and you can't get at the settings without the Menu button.
5. Run the MIUI app and configure as you want (there is an option not to hide the status bar). Once you have the appearance you are after note that you can long-press on an app to (among other things) hide it from the drawer or even uninstall it. I suggest you uninstall ReLaunch.
6. Go back to Nook Touch Mod Manager and remove the temporary "Menu" button assignment.
And you're good! Your NST still looks and works like its old self but you're one button-press away from accessing any apps you may want to install. And you have a decent file manager

Any easy way to set Google Voice to power button double tap?

I use Google Voice all the time and it sure would be nice to have it at my finger tips instead of digging in my apps, everytime I want to use it. Is there a simple remap app?

In the settings for Gear Manager you can choose the app that is assigned to the double press shortcut. If you're on null rom you'll need to revert the home button remapping so instead of a lock button it is a home button again. You can't manually sleep the screen when you do this however. To get around that I put GMD gesture control on the watch to add a swipe in gesture to the right side to sleep the watch (also have a swipe in from left for back and swipe from bottom for home). If you've added any apps to the watch after setting it up they won't show in Gear Manager. To get them to show up in GM you need to delete the file /data/data/com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager/files/wapplist.xml and reboot your phone. Personally I used tasker on my watch for music controls. I then export those tasks as apps and delete that file so they show up in GM. I also installed the regular version of Gravity Box so I could map long press of the button to another app. Hope that points you in the right direction.

Note that there is a feature in GravityBox under status bar tweaks where you can enable sleep on double tap of the status bar. I use this, and it works great!
That way, you can avoid using more precious storage space for an app (like GMD) to provide the same function.

I like having the swipe up go to a specific home screen with my clock on it via a tasker task exported to an app.

Some Galaxy S6 (Edge) Features for our S5s :)

Hi guys,
So I was really hiped to see how amazing the S6 would be and got very dissapointed with it (no microsd, removable battery, 40% less features, not water resistant at least and much more **** things about it). But despite all the drawbacks, there are, of course, some good things about it too. So here're some features that you can get on your S5 with some simple apps and configurations
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edge Lighting (it actually works when phone is not on a flat surface)
1. Download Edge Color Notifications.
2. Open it and select the blue options in the center top called "Select contact specific color". From there you're able to set different colors for each of your contacts. If you tap on the 3-dots at the top right and then on "PhoneCall options", you're gonna be able to change the default color for unknown calls, column width and animation type.
3. There are other extra settings as well, but you'll need to check them out by yourself as I only use the S6 Edge ones I mentioned above
4. Enjoy your Galaxy S5 Edge .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S6 Camera Launch by double pressing the Home button whereever you are (except on lockscreen, but we have widget for that)
1. Download a very old but very handy app from 2011 called Home2 Shortcut.
2. Open it and do everything as I tell you below -->
-where it says --Step1-- select the "Choose App" button and select your camera app.
-on step2 you can change the response and while they say to leave it at normal, mine is at "very very short" and it's actually better for me. Play with this a little.
-step3, select TouchWiz launcher.
-on step4 press the close button as it's written in the app and choose Home2 Shortcut as your default launcher and click "Always".
3. Now when you double press the Home button while your phone is unlocked the camera is gonna launch just like on the S6 (Edge).
Tip : You know how the Galaxy S6's camera is always in standby mode and ready, but doesn't show up in the recent apps list so you don't clear it by hitting clear all. Well I found a ...bug? maybe.. and am able to do the same on my S5. Follow below steps to try and get it working -->
*Whenever you restart or turn your phone on you need to launch the camera from the lockscreen shortcut and then press home button and unlock your phone.
*Now double press Home to launch camera and again press Home to go to your homescreen.
*Now when you double press Home again camera is gonna launch. But when you press Home to close it, it won't show up in the recent apps list.
*Sometimes it doesn't work from the 1st time so do the TIP steps a couple of times until you get it to work.
*Sometimes toggling HDR on/off "fixes" the bug and camera shows up in recents again. Repeat TIP steps to "bug" it again
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
People Edge (works with no bugs whatsoever, even on lockscreen)
1. Download Drupe.
2. When you open it it's gonna ask for notification read permissions, just grant it that and open app again (if it doesn't open by itself).
3. Inside the app there will be a quick tutorial to what everything does, check it out.
4. Now ,after the tut is gone, you're going to see some of your contacts listed on the screen. You can long hold a contact and remove it by dragging it to the bottom of the page where a little "x" will appear at the left side. Tap the "+' button to add more of your contacts to "Favourites" (starred).
5. On the bottom right there is a settings icon, click it and see below steps -->
-Default View - changes view when app is started. Can be "Favourites" or "Recents".
-Applications - tap to open menu. Hold on the 3-lines at the right and drag apps up or down. Apps which are more coloured will show up on the main screen, those below will not. You can assign E-Mail, FB, WhatsApp and so on to each of your contacts. All of those, one swipe away!
-Theme - changes colour of the transparent background of the app.
-Lock Screen - choose look on the lockscreen, "Dots" is the best, 'cause with the others if you tap on the lockscreen, app shortcut is gone. "Dots" doesn't go away, ever.
-Contacts Suggestion - this will add frequently called contacts which are not in your "Favourites" right under them.
-Vibration - guess what it does
-Email Signature - adds a "Sent via drupe" text under each email you sent using the app.
-Thumb Swipe - with this enabled, no need to swipe all the way to the app you wanna use. Just start swiping towards it and you'll see a highlighted line leading to the app which you can drag to other apps. Extremely useful when operating with just your thumb.
-Orientation - changes location of the contacts and apps. Can be left or right.
6. There's a "Search" bar on the main screen.
7. There's also a dialer on the main screen's bottom left side.
8. If you swipe right on the main screen, you'll see either "Favourites" or "Recents" (depending on which of the two you have set as your default screen when you open the app).
9. Long hold on the 3 dots, which when swiped, access the app, to place them anywhere on the screen by dragging them around.
10. Bare in mind that if you swipe to call from your lockscreen, you'll still need to unlock the phone for calling to take effect. This just saves you the trouble of going to the Phone app and calling from there.
PS : App may ask you for your email and fb account when you 1st start it. Just once though, once you're done it won't bother you anymore!

How can i make a shortcut for an app to open in pop up window?

How can i make a shortcut for an app to open in pop up window?
There used to be an app called pen window launcher that had this capability.
Anyone?
Thanks
Just enable swipe from top diagonal to enter pop out view. Takes like 0.003s longer than having a shortcut.
Right. Shortcuts are for pansies.
Anyone builds it I'll buy it though.
Time is money (and finger strain is best avoided).

Can you explain further? I can only seem to set app pairs and app shortcuts, would be great to have shortcuts that open in pop up mode.
Thanks
How would a shortcut be any faster than the 2 step process of opening an app and swiping down from the corner? I used to use the old method (pop-up window) which I believe was introduced on the Note 3. Anyway, when I updated my Note 3 to either the Note 4 or Note 5 rom (can't remember which), I had to learn the swipe method. Now, I couldn't imagine going back to the antiquated pen window. I will say that it's not as smooth swiping from the corner of a curved screen like the Note 7 & 8, but I usually have my s-pen out for more precise touch when I'm working off a smaller section of the screen. Honestly, I just use Edge for App Pair since the day I got the Note 8. But, swipe is still the quickest way to open pop-up or floating window.

How would it be faster? You answered your own question by your described method, open an app, swipe down from corner...I'd like to open the app (in pop up window).
There used to be apps in the play store that would created a shortcut for any app, that you can put on your home screen, that would just launch into a pop up window (1 step).
I was able to create a bixby shortcut for a 3rd party calculator to open in pop up window...I hold bixby and say calculate and it opens in a pop up window...it works but a shortcut would make life easier.

On PlayStore, "Floating Apps (multitasking)" by LWi s.r.o., is exactly what you're looking for. It provides real shortcuts for the ability to instantly launch any app in variable sizes of real Galaxy Pop-up mode floating multi windows, in addition to providing dozens of their own original low kB mini-apps. Works great, saves time and effort, perfect size in an instant!

Swipe to resize window not available after oneUI upgrade?

Hey,
Not sure if anyone else has noticed but after the OneUI update I cant swipe down from top left to resize windows.
This was a really useful productivity feature when multitasking (especially at work).
you used to be able to enable "popup view" then you could swipe down from top left to "pop-out" windows but now the only way to do this is a long-winded long press on multiview window then long press again on the top of app then select pop-up view... its much less effective than just swiping down (also you need to follow this same process for each window you want to have floating...
Does anyone know how to get the older much better way of working again? - or has it gone for good?! :crying:

It was already discussed a few times. It's removed, all the good multiwindow features that we had in nougat/oreo in galaxy phones are gone. The oneUI solution is close to the google stock one. No swipe from corner, no menu between two split screen apps, no fast way to split screen via holding recents or swipe/hold (but it fires google assistant for example), no hold card in recents for fast split or popout. Everything was removed and this is really bad for my productivity. Feature that was marketed, especially with the note 9 that is phone for productivity and multitasking, feature that samsung were praised for how much better is vs the other android makers solution - removed. Well, good job.
Wow, I had not realised all. Of that is now gone... Sadness!!

Wrong, if you mean split screen mode it still exists. On OneUi you gota open recent apps and then hold down on app icon to get a menu and from there you got split screen mode. Also popup window exists still aswell. Which can be found in same menu as split screen. Swipe from corner can be enabled again in settings on One UI

Read my post again, I never said those features are removed. We(I) were talking about the shortcuts that were fast and convenient. Simple two examples:
I am watching youtube, decides I want to also msg on viber. Before I can only hold recents - open viber and start typing without the video interruption. Right now you will go to recents, video WILL interrupt, you will press the icon on the card, select split screen, then viber, then you will press play and wait for the video to start. Second scenario is when you decide you want to switch two split screen apps place - there is no mid menu anymore, so you need to close/open them. pop-out is also a lot slower to do and with more steps. Generally it's 3-4 times slower to do the same now vs oreo and the funny thing is - they easily could had avoided that - popout from corner option in the advanced menu, swipe recents and hold for instant split screen (right now it's like that for google assistant - swipe and hold, never mistrigger it so it's good) and return of the mid menu between two split apps. Simple, but they removed it all. They even removed in the newer second base that was released after the first one a leftover for hold recents when navigation bar is on for instant split screen.
I am still expecting this option to be reenabled by samsung. It was seriously useful as hell and now i feel my phone is half broken

Try Nice lock from xda:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
It's Good Lock for the places that can't get it from Galaxy store.
Everything you need is on first post, the launcher and modules...
Edit.
It doesn't bring back the hold down recent key for multiwindow though. You now have to have an active app running, tap on recent key, select and hold down the second app you want and slide it to top or bottom of screen to activate split screen.
