No Find my phone Verizon - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Got a notification from Bixby today about setting up find my phone from Samsung. Went to do that and its not there. Verizon removed it because they offer a pay service that does the same. I know people have done system dumps, but i'm wondering has anyone added this feature back to phone that it was removed from?

just go to play store and download android device manager/ find my phone from google

I have that solution but from what I've researched the Samsung one can turn on the location if it's been turned off to facilitate finding the device.

I always use Cerberus and disable find my device. Have for yrs.

How does this even make sense? How would a device get a command to turn on if it's off? Also, no this isn't a feature for Samsung Find My Phone; it does have other neat features though

Bought a VS980, "New," but I'm suspicious. Any way to check?

Hi,
I bought a verizon LG G2 off ebay which was listed as "new," but I'm suspicious that it's not actually new, it's been used. It's also possible that the seller had the device new for a while but didn't use it.
Is there any way to verify this? If I go to Application Manager -> All Apps, the date listed by every app is 3/12/2014. Does that imply anything?
On previous phones I've had, there's a way to access the overall Call Time / Data Transfer totals on the phone. These counters stay active & current even if the phone has a factory reset. This would be the best way, if possible.
Any ideas?

I asked the same question at the verizon store when I bought my my 'new' G2. They said no way to tell if it's new or not by looking it up in their system. You can try going to settings -> about phone -> status, and see when the last factory reset was. Might shed some light on it

Actually it's right in the menus.
The G2 has the lifetime counters. Go to Settings > About Phone > Hardware Information.
Warranty Date Code should be the day it was first activated, and the lifetime call timer is self explanatory

Lost my phone to a pickpocket today. I realize that Google can't help me get it back.

I WAS an owner of a Nexus 5, very beloved to me because it was a gift for an achievement. Anyway, I use public transport almost everyday to get to places. Today while I was on my way to the university, I was targeted by a pickpocket who took away my phone
After a couple of minutes of running around and searching for the pickpocket I remembered the new "Find My Phone" feature Google launched recently. So I soon got into my account on a laptop and Googled "Find my Phone". Unfortunately, the thief had already switched it off and Google cannot locate it because its offline and switched off.
Now not only am I angry on the thief and myself, but I am also angry on Google. We've had Android Device Manager lying around for years and it already has Device Administrator permissions, yet it cannot switch on GPS, notify about SIM changes nor can it report the last known location of the phone. Its like the sheer existence of Android Device Manager is a waste.
I know you'd blame me for not having a third-party app to track my lost phone (I used to have an amazing and free app called Theftie which was pulled down by Google for an unknown reason) , but that's not the point. Why doesn't Google have a way to find and retrieve my android phone just like Apple has features to find lost iDevices. Why cant Android Device Manager turn on location and track a device even when it is locked. Why cant it prevent illegitimate flashing of devices?
Now I have ended up with no phone and I am left with no money (I've spent all my student budget money on college fee and to fund my final year project) and no phone (let alone smartphone). So the only way to get a new phone is to either do some kind of achievement or wait for two more months and those two months will like living in the Stone age.
Anyway, I request you android fans to help me send a message to Google, all OEMs and developers of custom recoveries, third-pary apps etc. We need a solution to prevent our phone from being stolen and in case it gets stolen, we want a way to retrieve our lost phones. We request all of you genius developers to work on securing not only our data but also our devices.
TL;DR: Had my phone pick-pocketed and the thief switched off the phone. Tried locating the phone using Android Device Manager and "Find My Phone" on Google. No use because the phone is neither online nor is it switched ON. Requesting Google and devs to come up with solutions to safeguard devices
Obviously it's of no use to Nexus 5 users, but Google has addressed these problems with Android Device Protection that came with 5.1
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Believe me I know that panic, disbelief, frantically going through your pockets, as it dawns it's gone. I took out all trace apps on this because they are useless as you know.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Blacklist it....
Have the carrier "Blacklist" the imei then the pickpocket can not use it other than just parts... He/She may have just turned the phone off, keep on trying, they may try to turn it on to attempt to flash it.... you might also see where it is or has been if your "location history" was set to be "on" look in your google account "dashboard" its down the page a bit "location history"

Google has become more and more like a regular OEM these past couple updates in regards to holding out on features for no reason at all other than to generate sales on a new device.
Really sorry to your lost, and get a iphone next time

Let me get this straight. You're mad at Google because they don't have the ability to locate your phone that is turned off? Apple can't do that. No manufacturer can do that. It is impossible. The phone is off. Radios, GPS, data, sim. All of that requires power to function.
If it's turned off, there obviously is no way to track it.
In Cerberus, you can disable the ability to turn off the phone while it is locked, as well as quick settings while locked (no airplane mode). This way, the thief has to stay online. It all works without root.
I´m sorry for your loss but you cannot blame Google or LG or anybody else for the lost phone. Let me guess, you´re one of the guys who puts his phone, wallet or other valuable items in his back pocket ? This is a invitation for every scumbag to snatch it...
I use Cerberus and even this App is not 100% safe if the thief knows how to get rid of it. On the other hand, Cerberus can send you a Email with the new SIM details but in order to function properly, your device needs to be rooted.
Better luck next time. I see people on a regular basis who don´t seem to care about losing their stuff.
I like that cerberus can hide itself from the Apps menu. A careless thief might not be aware the app is loaded and running, and taking a SNAPSHOT of his face
Remote wipe is a nice last resort option.
call your carrier or service provider to block your IMEI No or file a police report about stolen phone with IMEI and they will track it when ever thief put any SIM card in it this is the best way to get your phone back provided police & service provider helps you ( there is very thin chance of it )
At least in Germany, the police won´t do anything to track down a stolen phone. You can fill a report but this will only waste your time. There is one exception where the police MIGHT track a stolen phone: You have to be assaulted by the thief and let him beat the living cr*p out of you before he runs away with your phone, wallet etc...

Well then just get a friend to punch you in the face and thats it... Like in 25th hour lol
This is why I use cataclysm which blocks the power off, reboot, etc menu when secure.
Although if the thief is knowledgeable of holding power for 30 seconds it will reboot but still, not easy to turn off.

and if you hold down the power button for 8 (10) seconds? it turns off anyways. hardware level bypass of the software.

Nope I keep it safely in my front pocket with my hands in the pocket. But here, the public buses are so overloaded that you cant stand with your hands in your pockets.
The thief found this to be the best opportunity and slipped the phone out of my pocket.

Hmmm this sounds like a very good idea. Blocking the IMEI itself. I did lodge a complaint with the police, so I am going to raise a request to block the IMEI as well. But will I be able to unblock it IFFFF I ever get my phone back?

Yah you will IF YOU OFFICIALLY FILE COMPLAIN to police.. when they track your phone..but i think there will be some legal process u need to follow for claiming it back
If you already lodge a complaint then talk to them freely about blocking & unblocking..they will give you proper details.

Same case in India also but it's still worth to try...and it's best way to recover if you got lucky with police
I hate it that in lollipop one can enable airplane mode while the device is locked.
Also, the power menu is accessible.
This basically makes the tracker useless.

Caller ID missing on s10? Smart call app available, not functioning as before

Does anyone know what happened to the Smart Caller ID with the S10? I've went through the settings and seemingly enabled everything relating to it, but am possibly missing something? I had it previously on my note 8 and certainly miss having it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Here's a link to what I am talking about: https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/smart-call/
I do not have the toggle below blocked calls as noted in this webpage, but I do have 'Smart Call' as an app and permissions enabled. Not sure if it's a Verizon block or something?
I have it with my unlocked s10 on tmobile.
Yeah, sadly I do not have that in call settings. I'm thinking it has to do with Verizon blocking it for some unknown reason, likely to push their premium plans. Really miss having that feature and would be willing to flash if need be to bring it back.
Upon looking further, it appears my thinking was correct, Verizon disables this feature. Interestingly enough, my phone was purchased from Samsung.com in full, no contract pricing, so it comes with the U1 firmware installed. Apparently something must've taken place when I setup the phone and Verizon installed it's own profile. Anyone know of a way to disable this or best method to avoid this so my phone appears as an unlocked phone? Would hate to have to flash via Odin seeing as I am running the U1 firmware already, just have Verizon somehow messing with the unlocked nature of the device.
On 3 in Denmark, I enable it and come back later and it has been disabled again.

Yes it does.
I work in a cell carrier in Canada, when you first put a sim in an unlocked samsung it downloads and reboots with their customizations.
your Verizon phone is NOT preloaded with U1 firmware!
your Verizon phone comes unlocked.

Help with Verification Failed on Note 9

Hi everyone! First I just want to say thanks to anyone who has any information to help me.
I have a Note 9 and I enabled the directional lock (to unlock the phone). My phone is also encrypted so it will prompt me to enter the the directional lock anytime the phone is turned on and then again to unlock the screen. I turned my phone off the other day. When I turned it back on I saw the screen prompt for a directional lock. My friend needed help with something so I ended up talking to her before I even tried to unlock it (big mistake). When I got back in my truck to use my phone the screen was black and the message appeared, "Verification Failed, Unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data. I am not sure if while I was talking I accidentally touched the screen causing this message.
The biggest problem is I do not have a backup of certain files. They are on the internal memory of my device. So I DO NOT want to do a factory data reset. I just want to know a solution to get back into my phone again.
Here are the things I have tried:
-Soft reset with Power and volume key
-Wiping cache partition
-Calling Samsung
-Calling T-Mobile
-Downloading Samsung Switch (Does not Recognize device)
-All options in recovery mode (except factory data reset)
-Download mode
My phone is not rooted but it did go through a series of OTA updates and now is running Android Pie. I have came across a few other people with this issue and it happened after updating.
I want to know if there is a way to get in the phone or is there a way to recover my encrypted data and then decrypt it. I also would like to know if I can have the steps to use Odin (already downloaded on my computer) to reinstall the current firmware on the phone. I am wondering if anyone has ever done this and still kept their data (pictures, videos, memos, documents and text messages). I have only flashed my device probably about 10 years ago. So step by step directions would be amazing. Also I do have developer options enabled.
I have searched the forum and the only advice I have seen is to reset but I want to know how to keep my data. The only thing I have came across is a store that has a "Samsung" machine that will do a Home Restore without losing your data. He told me if something is corrupted that I could still lose my data. I have over 100gbs of data I need to access and it would be horrible to lose it.
Finally I have one last question is to back up all my encrypted data so that if I find a way to decrypt it later?
PLEASE any advice besides the things I have already tried would be so helpful. If anyone is able to help me I PROMISE I will help you with whatever you are trying to do and believe me.... I have the resources to do so. It will be a way I will show my thanks.

u can try with odin and flash latest firmware but it will not remove encryption. none the less it might at least get you access to the unlock screen and allow you to unlock but it might not.
read up about odin and get latest version.
read up on stockfirmware and your phone model and which carrier CSC code you are on and get latest version. via samfirm tool or frija or sites like sammobile
flash it in odin by filling the different .md5 files to the according slots. but for CSC slot use home_csc.md5 to not wipe data.
but what i dont understand is what does the landscape/portrait have anything to do with this?

Thank you so much for the response!! My Phone is from T-mobile ]. I have been reading up on it and I did download Odin but I am unsure of how to exactly use it. I could figure it out with directions but I am afraid to do the wrong thing because I have only done it one and that was with Samsung Kies ( a long time ago.)
I am unsure what you mean by Portrait and Landscape mode in my post. I don't see where I mentioned it. Maybe you are referring to the directional lock. That is how you unlock the phone (with a series of directions). For instance... left, left, down, down, right, left, up. I mentioned it because that could be causing this issue. That is the method to get past the secure startup as well. A lot of people don't know about that option because you have to enable it in accessibility menu.

oh instead of a pin or biometrics the pattern lock screen?
but if it was locked because of too many tries then dont think you can do anything. you should have received a message through the email used to register your samsung account and follow it to get it unlocked.
any talk of circumventing this type of lockout isint something that can be discussed on xda because there is no way to prove that it was by accident. and even if it was and there really was a way to bypass it, it would give criminals insight. so sorry but there isint much more that can be said.

Yes, it is an option instead of the regular pattern. I like it because it is hard to copy for anyone looking at you unlock your phone and if you lose it... even looking at the screen will not tell them how to unlock it because they need to know the sequence.
I am unsure what caused it.. maybe me or the updates. I have never had this problem before in my entire life. I had the Note 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9. (Yes, I love my Notes.) Not one of them have done this and I only noticed the directional lock beginning on the Note 5. I have an S10 as well and I could't find the option. So I am not sure if it is just specific to Galaxy Notes.
I never thought of giving someone else insight on how to get into phones. That is a good point! I understand that not being allowed. I have known about XDA developers for a long time. I think back somewhere in 2007 -2009 when I was very active on Tmonews forums. So I really haven't been on a forum in like 10 years. I am sure a lot of things have advanced since then but I REALLY appreciate the time you took to respond.
I just have two more questions... I am paying for this phone like $30 a month and I also have the $15 insurance. I can't do anything to this phone that would void the warranty. However, the place that told me they may be able to help me is an authorized Samsung repair center. He said he would have to download the firmware and reinstall it on the phone. He also told me that he could do it without losing data (Home Restore) but if something is corrupted it also could erase. It is with a machine that is directly given to them from Samsung. If somehow I lose my data....can it be recovered if I pay a data recovery company? These pictures are VERY important. Honestly, my data is more important to me than the phone.
Lastly, I remember my email I used for the Samsung account however it was an outlook email and it gave me so much trouble trying to log in (even when the phone was fine). However, if I am able to get in do you think it would take the message off the screen? I know my directional lock to get back in. All I need to do is get back to that screen but it won't pop up.
Again seriously.... I thank you so much for trying to help!

i doubt that the samsung repair shop would be able to do anything for your data. but i guess it might be good to give them a call and explain the situation.
but i think they would basically do what was discussed earlyer using odin.
regarding the rest on how to get back in the phone I've never been locked out so i hope someone can chime in and see if there is a way to get it to prompt again or maybe have a remote unlock. co to samsung.com, login with your account that was used to setup the phone and check around. i know there is a remote dashboard on there to find your phone and do other commands remotely. i know for a fact that locking remotely exists. maybe its just as simple as having the phone online, lock it remotely and maybe the prompt will be seen on the device.( trigger it so to say)
good luck

Thanks so much! I actually got locked out of my Samsung Account and my email so I called Samsung and they got
me right back in. The first person told me they couldn't do anything but then she gave me a number (855-795-0509) to call. She said it was for the "find my mobile" department so I could see if could unlock it. The second lady helped me get back into my account. She was a huge help! I was able to access the remote unlock but it didn't work. I guess because the phone isn't connected to data at all. Is there anyway to force it to connect to a network? I reinserted my sim so it would recognize my number and also so it would have data to connect.
My last option is to go back to the store and see if what he does can fix it. The lady at Samsung said that people have been reporting issues with this update so it wasn't just me. I literally have to keep these files or it could be my life. I have to edit video for a celebrity and a lot of it is on the internal memory. I had to put it there because I use Adobe Clip and it never finds files that are on my SD card. It is just easy to me because I can do it on the go and not have to carry around my laptop everywhere. Next time I will surely back it up somewhere. This is the first time I haven't.

Verizon alert keeps popping up

My phone is constantly being interrupted by this annoying popup: (I can't post links being a new user, but the image is at imgur FN7uUhL )
"Alert
Sorry, we're having trouble connecting. Make sure you have a good signal and try again. If you still can't connect, call us at 800-922-0204.
Error code 1001"
It doesn't say what app it is, but I suspect it's from Verizon because the phone number is theirs.
My phone is unlocked and I use it on Personal in Argentina. I've used this phone for years and this only started happening last Thursday out of nowhere. No new apps, no system upgrade.
Rebooting the phone doesn't help either, and I wouldn't want to factory reset if it can be avoided. Any ideas what this might be?
Thanks!
same, just today noticed this on an older LG G4

Same thing here have had Moto E4 Plus on Metro PCS for the last few years and just started receiving this message in the last week. The phone was a Verizon phone that I unlocked and has been working great on Metro...until now. What's going on?

Same here on my note 4, using T-mo prepaid. Just started a week ago. Also the verizon splash screen still displays on power up. My understanding is the V boot loader is locked.

SOLVED I had the same problem as well but I found a way to get rid of it, you gotta disable the My Verizon app and then 1 settings then mobile networks then network mode and set the global off to LTE/GSM/UMTS and then it will not pop up anymore, your welcome.

Good news, I found the locations since I don't have "my verizon apps" Bad news, the fix does NOT work at all.
Solved
I actually got online with Motorola because I knew that the app causing this nightmare was Verizon Login . The problem is that I debloated all my Verizon and the problem still occurred. But then by going through Settings | Apps | ... |Show System, I say the bugger was still there. I disabled it and the problem was solved. Of course this worked for me because I'm on an unblocked phone and note using Verizon.
My husbands Samsung Galaxy S7 has been doing this for over a month. He tried disabling anything Verizon related and even a factory reset and it's still doing it.

Yes, I did same with my note 4, still there. IGNORE those solved posts, this problem is NOT solved. I use T-mobile prepaid with this phone and since verizon locks the boot loader, there is not yet a rooting solution for this phone and since it's a note 4 there will not be one forthcoming.
fixed it permanently
SOLVED: I have two Verizon phones that I now use on T-Mobile and this has worked for both.
Settings->Apps & Notifications->App Info (options may be slightly renamed on different versions of Android, may be Applications instead, just get to the big list of applications in the Settings app)
then hit the triple dot/menu thing to give extra options and choose Show System
Scroll down and choose Verizon Login and disable it and force stop it.
Message will be gone forever. I've rebooted both phones several times and the message has never come up again.
In addition, disable permissions of My Verizon: SMS, phone and GPS location, your welcome

So I have an old Verizon tablet that is running android 5.1.1. I don't have options for "show system" or "Verizon login" that I can find. Anybody familiar with this 5.1.1 that knows where it would be or if I'm overlooking. Thanks.
Awesome! I'm using an unlocked Verizon LG G5 in Canada and I've been trying for quite some time to get rid of this problem. I've tried all the suggested fixes I could find on the net and this is the solution! Thanks so much buddy. Much appreciated eh!
This problem started recently for me on Samsung S6 unlocked Verizon phone that I use with foreign SIM cards when traveling. I tried restoring settings to default, but that didn't work. Then I tried resetting network settings and that appears to have worked. it was popping up every couple minutes and so far it has not.
don't work

I had the same problem on my unlocked S6 Edge and knew that the Verizon Login app was the issue but the damn phone wouldn't let me disable it; grayed out. I bought an app in the Play Store named "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)" for $2.99. The thing will let you disable ANY software whether built in or not. So once you launch, disable Verizon Login with it and the problem is gone. If you disable "Setup Wizard", you also won't get the stupid message about the SIM not being VZW card when you boot. I disabled all the other Verizon software too. Problem was so aggravating that I got an account here just to share the answer since I figure it has to be driving people CRAZY!!!!

Help!!!
Still having this issue, I’ve disabled all those apps, force stopped them, and it continues to haunt the phone. I’ve called Verizon and they don’t know anything about it, and I’m really about to throw the phone away and buy a new one. It’s an s7 so it’s still a decent phone, but I don’t know what else to do
So Close, but Disable is Disabled

This definitely got me closer. Using this method I was able to revoke permissions which forces VZ SpyLogin to fail so it isn't running, BUT, the "Disable" button is disabled, even if I force stop the app. It's most certainly this application causing the issue. Thanks for the closest solution.
**EXTRA info
This wasn't happening at all on my phone ever, and this is an old one (I need the IR blaster in the Samsung G6). It's an unlocked Verizon branded phone running on ATT network. I factory reset it yesterday and now I am getting this annoying Verizon Login nonsense.
