Note 8 Screen Protector - IQShield/Skinomi/Spigen - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Accessories

Hey everyone,
I really don't know what happened lately but suddenly choosing a screen protector is harder than choosing a phone
I came across 3 fairly dominant companies and would like a more personal opinion from you.
1) Skinomi TechSkin/MatteSkin
2) IQ Shield Liquid Shield/Matte
3) Spigen Neo Flex
All 3 are considered "case-friendly", although from what I have heard, they all don't go very well with the Otterbox Defender, which is what I'm planning to have, but correct me if you know otherwise.
Questions:
1) Which one would you consider to be the best one? Are you experienced with any of them?
2) Both Skinomi and IQ Shield have a "version 2" screen protector. Does anyone know what is the difference between version 1 and 2?
3) I'm a HUGE fan of Matte screen protectors, I just love the feel and the anti-fingerprint. The only downside to it is a bit of a blurry feel in the screen. If any of you tried their Matte protectors, how bad is that blur?
Thank you,
Omga4000

I wasn't able to catch what you wrote before the edit, but any opinion is good!
The problem with Tempered Glass is that there is only 1 company which makes a "full adhesive" solution, Whitestone.
From what I have read - they are really not that great, and do not support the Otterbox Defender series.
If you know something else, please do share

IQ Shield and Skinomi are better than the Spigen and all three are better than Ringke. Version 1 and 2 differentiate between the cutoff points for case friendliness. Ver 1 of the IQ Shield ends before the screen of the Note 8 ends which means a tiny part of the screen will be unprotected on the sides. Version 2 covers the whole visible screen and works for some cases. Version 1 works with basically all cases, but it gives you slightly less protection due to it being "most case friendly" of all.
You're going to get graininess from the matte protectors, that's just the name of the game.
I have had success with the IQ Shield. No peeling and relatively smooth for a soft TPU.

Perfect, that works for me.
Ordered both the Version 1 and Version 2 of IQ Shield (Matte). I hope that version 2 will fit the Otterbox, though I doubt it.
Thank you

I had the spigen neo flex on my s8 and went with the skinomi techskin on my note 8 based on amazon reviews. Just installed it last night, super easy and haven't noticed any issues. I'm using it with a spigen neo hybrid case and all my edges are flat on the screen. Any streaks or air bubbles left cured over night. Highly recommend.

I can attest to the quality of the Skinomi TechSkin. It's great, and somehow it protected by screen from a good fall on some rocks when I launched my phone in the air getting out of my car as I forgot it was in my lap. Put a bunch of dents in the protector but my screen was fine. May have been a fluke.
Otherwise, it's a wet application and can be a bit aggravating, especially getting the sides the stick, but eventually they do. It looks HORRIBLE for the first 24 hours or so, but all the bubbles dissappear and you can't tell it's even on.
My only complaint is the S Pen gouges it pretty bad, but it's really only noticeable in direct light or with the screen off.
Edit: also I believe I got version 2, it fit with every case I own, and I have quite a few.

Does either of the matte skins for the ringke onyx?
Thank you ?

Best note 8 PET Protector (Easy ULT)
I found this one to be the best combination of coverage, Feel and works with the S Pen without leaving lines or too much drag. They dont do a case friendly version but i cut the sides down 2mm either side and re cut the radius on the corners
2 pack]Samsung Note 8 Screen Protector, EasyULT 2 Pack PET Screen Protectors for Samsung Note 8 (HD Ultra Clear Film,Full Coverage) avaliable on Amazon.

I trust by now there is another alternative. I'm looking for a full adhesive solution as I don't feel comfortable with a protector that only adheres to the edges leaving an air bubble in the middle of the screen.

Whitestone Fail
I tried the Whitestone and it didn't go too well. Got bubbles under the screen protector on the first and second try. The adhesive ran all over - down into the speaker holes, in the S-Pen slot, earphone jack, charger port......it was a complete disaster.

Me and a couple of friends are using the Samsung official screen protector for S8+ and they're great. They will heal very fast from pen mark

That must mean that it is "soft" and not be able to withstand shatter tests (for accidental drops), nor any direct impacts to the screen by sharp objects.

Review: Martin Field's Screen Protector (Best I've Ever Used!)

I purchased this based on some feedback I had read one some other forums. I have tried nearly every major screen protector out there (Spigen, RearthUSA, Incipio, PowerSupportUSA, Switcheasy, BodyGuardz, XO Skins, Best Skins Ever, a ton of cheap ones off Amazon, Zagg, etc.). Up until this point, I had always found the Ultra Crystal from Spigen to be the best overall. Not anymore.
Before I get started I want to mention that the Martin Fields Screen protectors are not cheap. One screen protector for the Nexus 7 is $29.99 ($34.99 for one iPad protector and $16.99 for one Galaxy Nexus protector)and it only comes with one screen protector and a set of instructions. That's it. I will say that the packaging is very environmentally friendly for those that care (makes no difference to me).
One issue I've always found to be a huge problem with these dry, crystal clear screen protectors (Again, think Spigen Ultra Crystal) is that they show fingerprints so easily that it really can become a huge nuisance and to my surprise this one doesn't show much at all. I would say it's nearly as good at resisting fingerprints as a matte finish screen protector.
A very innovative feature this screen protector offers is that it is completely removable. They include a Mylar sheet that you can stick it to if you need to take it off. Just apply a small piece of scotch tape at the bottom corner and slowly pull to remove it. This does bring up the biggest problem that I have with this protector though. It is somewhat brittle. It will crease if you aren't careful with it.
Turn on a steamy shower and install. Be patient as these things are a perfect fit and will require some patience to install.
Quick Summary:
PROS:
As clear as any I've ever used
Does not pick up oils like most clear, dry application screen protectors generally do
Feels as close to glass as anything I've ever used
Reusable
Covers entire screen
Comes with a Camera Lens cover as well
CONS:
Not cheap. If you purchase directly from MartinFields.com it is $16.99 + $4.99 shipping. Be aware of fakes on Amazon.
Doesn't come with much. Just a simple paper package, a screen protector and a Mylar sheet to apply it to if you decide to take it off and use it later.
Fragile, it will crease if you aren't careful

Hahahaha! That is hilarious. They do show fingerprints like a lot of dry application protectors but they don't have that blue smear effect ou get (Ultra Crystal).
So I purchased one of these and installed it this afternoon. All is well except three of the corners have a bubble and appear slightly lifted. The protector appears to be installed properly and no amount of rubbing with a credit card or fingers can get these edges to stick. Fwiw, I tried a reinstallation and have not touched the adhesive side.

How easy to install screen protector like this on Nexus 7?
I have concern for dust particles, bubbles and imperfection because 7" is not quite small.
And how is it with the touch, swiping, etc. still good?
If you can make some photos showing from corner to corner, that would be awesome.
Thanks for your review btw, I am considering to use this MF screen protector + some kind of back-case ala Incipio Feather for phones
I have installed probably 10 different protectors on devices of various shapes and sizes, and I find that with patience, the bigger the device, the easier it is to get the protector aligned properly. But it does take patience as you can spend 15-30 minutes just fishing dust out with scotch tape without getting fingerprints on the back side of the protector to get a perfect, bubble free adhesion.
I gave up on running a hot shower while doing it as it just makes the dust harder to find if it gets on the screen anyways, and for me it always seems to.

Screen protector with otterbox?

Does anyone know if a Tempered Glass screen protector would work with a Otterbox Defender(with the Otterbox screen pushed out). I like the MIME Tempered Glass screen protector but dont know if it will work with a Otterbox Defender and not have any gaps between the edge and the case.
I have the defender case with an anti glare SP on and it seems to work great... I'm not too sure about the tempered glass ones, but with this SP, it doesn't fully cover up to the edges, but the case covers those areas perfectly... I'm really happy I got rid of the crappy otterbox SP
If by "pushing the screen out" you mean removing the plastic film covering the screen then I think it should work. I can confirm a perfect fit for the Commuter, but with a Defender im guessing the MIME would be a little bit too thick
Yes i mean take out the Otterbox Screen protector and putting a tempered glass on in its place, im just worried about the tempered glass protector will not go under the Defender cases edges around the phone so its sealed from debris and stuff. If its too think i can shave off a little bit of the underside of the case if needed to get a good fit but i really dont want to do that. Ive just heard and read that the tempered glass is better for a Note 2 than a zagg because of the s pen can cause the zagg to mess up.
I think there would be problems using a MIME glass with a defender. Some parts of the case will be covering the glass protector. Im not so sure about the edges of the phone, but Im pretty sure you would have problems with the top parts, where the front facing camera and the sensors are placed.

I have a MIME ghost glass SP with a defender and it works perfectly. Yes the top part of the glass is covered by the front of the case buts it better since it creates a seal like the original sp did.

Can you post pics? I would like to see, ive read and heard that Otterbox was going to revise the Defender for the Note 2 but havent heard anything from them or seen anything about what they are going to do to it. I love my Otterbox Defender but the screen lets too much dust and debris under it, i cleaned it a few minutes ago with a micro fiber cloth and i already have a little bit of dust under it.
Also how are you liking the battery mod you have done?
Hi people, i just registered here to share my somewhat of a solution to the defender screen protector problem on the Note 2. It still shouldnt be like this after spending this kind of money on a case, but still its way better than stock.
I got my defender knowing about the screenprotector problem but I found it to be the only case protective enough for my liking.
I believe the problem comes from a combination of the substantial amount of glue between the frame and the protector, and the curved screen. I believe the glue pushes the protector down towards the edges of the screen, making the middle of the protector pop up along the sloping screen, so it actually lifts away from the screen in the middle.
What I did was very simple. I first popped the protector out of the frame. I did this with my hands without heating it because its a very flimsy and weak connection anyway. For those afraid to break it you could heat it up with a hair dryer first.
Then next thing i removed pretty much all of the glue, but i didnt wipe the 2 parts clean, leaving bits of what you could describe as a very thin anti-slip layer.
Next thing i had the phone in the rear part of the case, aligned the detached screen protector with a clean screen, and gently clicked the top frame on.
This leaves me with a very snug fitting protector that is not moving at all. I will post an update if this proves to be a short term thing but so far its doing great.
Eli.

Garbage compared to a tempered glass protector. Trust me get the glass and u'll be happy
That's a poor reflection on XtremeGuard. Most plastic protectors are not as good as tempered glass ones.
I can vouch for XtremeGuard's full body protection. I had the rear protector which is a wet install product. It was top notch to be fair, easily as good as bigger more expensive brands like Zagg. I only removed it as I got a good deal on a SlickWraps matte feel rear protector.
For the money, XtremeGuard always offering high discount, you can't go wrong.

Agreed, but some people don't want a tempered glass protector.
I for one LOVED the feel of my xtremeguard. I actually dropped something right on the screen of my phone (a large lithium ion battery) and it make a giant nick on surface.
I was filling out the forms for getting my phone replaced via HTC Advantage, and at the last moment before submitting I decided to just peel off the protector and see how badly the glass was damaged, since I was returning it anyway.
Turns out the ding looked like it went through on the glass, but it was entirely on the screen protector!
Saved my phone! I had the full body, and I loved the feel of the gloss back. It made it just sticky enough to be easier to grip and didn't spoil the look of the phone at all. Fantastic, and for the price? it's a complete no brainer. Last time they had this sale I bought five, and I don't regret buying that many at all. It's amazing.
Wow thanks for the post. Been looking for a screen protector. I ordered their tempered glass and the full body wrap (Just in case I dont like one or the other) for a total of $7.65 shipped! Glad I didn't spend 2-3x that last week Cheers
I have used xtremeguard now for the second time (first time was on a phone I had to get replaced due to a defect)...I personally use it for the protection between the phone and any case I install...I work in a dusty environment and it really helps protect from stuff rubbing into the aluminum body and scratching it...awesome product.

Great idea, thanks. Going to use the back from the full body protector (under my case), and the tempered on the front!
Have the glass protector on my phone right now. Feels just like the GLAS.t on my Note 3. Tried taking a key and knife to it, and it left no scratches. Granted I did not press down super hard, but enough to simulate something more than normal. Would recommend especially with their massive discounts.
I have their wet install screen protector on now and have had it since I got the phone. Works good, just like any other wet install screen protector. I have tried alot of different ones, and they are all about the same to me.
Here's a video of it on the device
Got it on mine. Doesn't smear, applies easy and looks invisible. Top notch especially for the price. (I got them on the 90% offer)

Pelosi Sandstone Protective Hard Cover

I searched and did not find a thread on this. I was originally going to opt in to buy the Nillkin slim case but it did not cover the bottom and top parts of the phone.... but this one does! So in case anyone is looking for a slim case, with a great feel to it that adds a bit of grip (due to the sandstone feel), this is the case for you. I have it paired with a BestSkinsEver screen protector and I have no issues with it.

Is it better than Spigen ?
@mzkaye729
Can I request that you post some more close up shots of the front of the phone with the case on? I'm particularly interested in how much the lip covers the screen.
I wanted the sandstone case but couldn't justify the price that OnePlus was selling theirs for.
Thanks
Had that cover, its ok, but the only problem I had with it, when removing from pocket, it pulls my pocket out, because it sticks with it.

1) The material is different (TPU vs. hard case).
2) The slim factor is different (the Spigen case is thicker, longer, and wider).
3) The Spigen case will most likely protect more than this Pelosi case.
So if you're going for slim factor, get this case but if you want protection for your phone, I believe you're better off with the Spigen case.

What is your opinion on the BestSkinsEver screen protector? Is it similar to a regular PET screen protector? How good is the oleophobic coating on it and the translucency of it compared to the stock or third-party screen protectors?

I am a little biased because I have installed BSE protectors on electronics/phones I have owned, as long as BSE offers the option to as I think it is a fantastic product (good value for the money, shipping is extremely cheap to Toronto, Canada). It's not the same as a regular PET screen protector. I think you're talking about those plastic protectors but I find those scratch easily, and also, the application is different. I have yet to put a deep or noticeable scratch on a BSE skin but again, this depends on how you handle the phones/electronics. I even have this BSE skin on my Pebble watch and that thing takes a beating. Still no scratches visible on the screen protector itself on the watch.
I don't believe there's any oleophobic coating at all on the BSE skin, and if there is, super minimal that I don't even notice it ? With that said, I don't think it's fair for me to comment on the "oleophobic coating" (or maybe lack thereof) because I don't typically handle my phone if I have handled (oily) food. With regular use, I don't notice much fingerprints so it's not something that has jumped out at me.
I have had no issues with yellowing, and the "orange peel" look is VERY VERY minimal compared to something like XtremeGuard (the yellowing issue/orange peel was horrible on that). I had this BSE on my Note 4; had no issue with the S-pen gliding on it. The glossy screen protector from BSE won't cut into the clarity of the phone's display so that's not something to worry about. I have tried glass screen protectors and OK, maybe you can tell side-by-side the difference in clarity by a little bit, but typically, the glass protectors are used for drop protection. I prefer the BSE because the fingerprints on the glass bother me, and my main concern are scratches on the screen, not a shattered screen *knock on wood*.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to post this.
Looks like it offers very little protection on the front side though so I will be sticking with my Spigen Rugged. If only this phone was more popular, manufacturers would make more cases. I get jealous of iPhones for having all the cool phone cases.
Thanks again!

Giving up on glass. Help me get wet.

As much as I prefer tempered glass, I've given up on my search for a TG protector that fits, looks and feels right.
That being said, I'm now on the hunt for a wet application screen protector that offers the closest thing to edge-to-edge coverage as possible. I use an Elago case when I'm out and no case as all when home, so case-friendly is of no benefit to me.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations, shared personal experiences and pictures (if any)!

The problem with the wet ones is the pen leaves marked and not smooth
I have had the Spigen and the Skinomi. The Spigen one is very thick and always has an orange peel look to is. I have had the Skinomi V1 which fits with most cases and now have the Skinomi V2 which is more edge to edge. The Skinomi 'heals' a lot faster than the Spigen - yes it leaves pen marks but use the black tip and just wait a few, they do go away. The Skinomi is thinner and is very smooth so it doesn't have that orange peel look.
The V2 only fits with minimal cases, I have a Pitaka and it fits perfectly edge to edge of the glass. I had a Skinomi on my Note 7 and loved it, the only reason I started with the Spigen is that the Skinomi wasn't available at the time. At 2 for $7 on Amazon, it's hard to beat. Easy to apply and I do them super wet to allow for the best alignment. Added bonus, they do hide minor chips and cracks very well.
Skinomi V2 for Note 8 (excuse the pocket dust). I tried to show the most extreme angles and worst aspects, looking straight on it's perfectly clear.

very happy with my screen protector from tech21.

After trying a lot of protectors and losing too much money. Nillkin TG is perfect in covering the whole screen with angles, it has black edges, compatible with all cases and the most important thing is that the sensitivity to touch is outstanding!

try the Techmatte Tempered Glass. probably the best on both the S8 Plus and Note 8, and I have both phones.

I gave up on glass screen protectors with curved screens. I can't stand the lip it leaves on the edges. Especially since I use multiple apps that I have to swipe from the edge. I have been using the Nano liquid screen protectors and don't have any scratches. Now I know it will not help if I drop my phone on its face. But something you just have to deal with. I did see this one called from simply carbon it's a flexible screen protector that you can hit with a hammer and it will not break. Has anyone tried one of these?
I put the Skinomi 2 on last night
I've never done a wet-application screen protector before and it was surprisingly easy. Today the bubbles are all gone except for one little dust spec that doesn't bother me. It works well with my new Spigen Tough Armor case. I'm happy with this combo

I just looked up the Simply Carbon Fiber screen protectors. Looks interesting. I just wonder if they are soft and the S-Pen will leave leave marks or not. They also don't look to be case friendly.

That's the same thing I was thinking too. Because I love how smooth the glass is on my Note8 I don't want anything that doesn't feel like that.

I'm currently using a wer apply screen protector. It feels smooth and looks great, but the S-Pen leaves marks. Theres just no perfect solution.
