i think it may be to do with time of day. Mine does the same, it seems to be dimmer through the day time.

Mine does the same. It appears to be auto-dimming based on the ambient light sensor.

You have some many more options on that screen than I do.
Edit, figured it out. Face widgets option is not available with screen lock type being set to none.
OP. My aod dims according to light ambience in the room.

It's not working. When I set it on, then change a setting (color calibration or the color temperature) it doesn't do anything, even with a reboot. Any idea why ?

The slider for night will only show a difference at night and the same with the one for day. Drag and release to see the difference

I knew that, it just wasn't working because I was in battery saving mode. Anyway thanks for the help

How do you adjust the time the screen stays 'awake'?

My screen timeout is at ten minutes but the screen dims and turns off after 10 seconds and it's incredibly bothersome when trying to read an ebook for example. Have you encountered this? Any suggestions?
Edit: not a Always on display problem
Place AOD on schedule? So, not always on

It still dims after 10 seconds with the always on display off. Do you know of any setting that could change this in thynote9?
Are you using some power saving mode?
Doesn't AOD dim after a while after awhile so as not make the pixels burn unevenly long term? Just use a clock if you want it to be on long.

The problem is the screen dimming after ten seconds not the AOD display. I turned off the AOD display and it still dims too fast.

No,
Does this setting possible have anything to do with it. It used to be default 5 seconds for most phones. Is this possibly interfering with the dimming?

GO to Settings, advanced features and select 'Smart Stay' to on position.
Your screen will time out to whatever you've set it in display settings, but smart stay will stop that happening if it know you're watching something

That is better than before but still not what I want. I basically want the phone screen to be on until I turn it off or the amount of time I put on the screen timeout elapses. Is this just impossible on this expensive device?
Hi,
I'm afraid the max is 10min in screen settings.
The only other way is in developer options, then 'stay awake always' but this only allows this during charging(plugged in)
To enable dev option, you need to go to settings/about phone/software information, then tap build number around 7-8 times
KinScreen is great app for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teqtic.kinscreen

Ambient Display / Lock Screen Settings

I've chosen that the ambient display should light up whenever I'm near the phone. However, it stays on for about 10 mins even though I'm not near it. Sometimes it just stays off even though I'm nearby and even lifting up the phone. What settings should I use?
I would test that the proximity sensor is working. Try using the Pokémon wallpaper or app to see if it recognises that you are near and waving your hand. I only say this as my first pixel had a faulty sensor and I had to return it. If yours is too it might explain why it isn't working.

Pokémon reacts fine and proximity sensor works just fine.

The same here. I changed the Idle Lock Screen to OFF and let the other settings ON, this works better for me.

No I haven't if you mean DND. Sometimes also after a restart the phone also needs to cycle the power button.

Check your screen timeout settings in settings/display and change it to whatever you want, like maybe it's set to 10 minutes so set it to less minutes or disable completely.
Screen timeout is set to 1 minute and tried to change it to 2 mins. With same result. Weird ?
