REQUEST: Best Battery Savings ROM - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Questions & Answers

I'm using Asus Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE550KL z00l), my wife is using Mi Max 2 64GB. On the Zenfone 2, the best battery savings ROM are
AIMROM
crDroid
CosmicOS
which could give SoT as high as 1.5x-2x, as compared to other roms, when configured properly with microG (disabling Google Play Services, but retain Google Play & other GApps functionality)
I would like to humbly request any interested developer to port the above mentioned roms, or any other better roms for battery savings, so the Mi Max 2 could be the greatest battery life phone.
Thank you in advance.

No source code, no ROM.

Yes, waiting for working kernel sources.
I will roll my own kernel when its out, but my dualcore PC is too old/slow to build ROMs.

Mi Max 2 is already a beast in "screen on time" ranking

Good kernel to use with RR?

I'm using Official RR remix rom Nougat and I was wondering if there is any kernel that i can use to extend battery life with. I dont want to severely underclock so i cant play any games or anything. Maybe something in the middle between battery and performance.
The kernel will help with underclocking, but it's even better if you combine it with the AKT profiles.
There are 3-5 profiles to choose from, targeting to battery, performance or balance between these 2.
Unleashed by ONEPLUS 3T rooted
Go for Blackbird V1.1
Awesome battery backup on other roms compared to RR.
But better than many other kernel with regards to battery

Witch Vulkan API that Fits On Mi Max 2?

Dear Moderator.
I'm Ex user Kenzo. I Use Kenzo With LineageOS Rom with Vuklkan API Features.
What i wanna ask.
Does Mi Max 2 is support Vulkan API?
Despite that in Nougat Miui ROM is has Vulkan.
But, it seems whwn i played game like HIT, the high graphic features is not capable like when i use in kenzo is capable.
I would like to know too, i can't play Lineage 2 Revolution on max settings because it needs vulkan although my hardware has vulkan, i've seen all kinds of vulkan api for other phones i wonder witch one works for Xiaomi Mi Max 2, i am on the latest developer build, boot loader unlocked and rooted device
The latest version of PPSSPP (on their website) let's you choose Vulkan. I only tried Need for Speed Carbon, but the performance was way better than with OpenGL. I will try some other games and play around in the other settings to see what's possible with Vulkan

Is it worth buying Redmi 4x in Q3 2018?

Hello folks. I've been using Moto X Style for about a 1,5 year and I'm tired. Development is slowing down, the phone is really big (my previous one was LG L90). For some time I was looking for a nice, compact smartphone with good battery and decent price. Redmi 4X seems to fit my needs, but is it worth buying now? As far as I know the longer battery is kept unused, the worst condition it has - is 4X still being produced? How about development - how many LOS version may this phone get yet? How is battery life?
Or are there newer models which could fill my needs? 150mm height is too much for me; I like compact smartphones - otherwise I would get Lenovo P2 - that is a beast. Actually I tought that Sony Xperia XA2 would be nice, but that price...
What do you guys think?

As I mentioned, 150mm height is too much. I wish I had more compact smartphone.
Redmi 4x's android version range is 6-8 and thanks to treble we booted android p dev previews. About battery life my SoT records are: RR Luis build nougat 8hr 35min RR Luis build oreo 8h 12min android p dev preview 7h 3min
Project Treble seems promising. I wonder how long Android will keep compatibility with it. How about your opinions, then? Do you like this smartphone? Are you happy with it? Would you buy it again?

My previous phone was zenfone 6 (6 inch display x86 cpu) I was in your situation. It isnt even fit on pocket, lack of development, etc. Redmi 4x seems fine after 6 inch junk. 5 inch display, more custom rom support, Camera is amazing with gcam (miui default cam is fine too), 8 core cpu. Gaming performance is great and also it is cheap. Im definitely happy with redmi 4x

If u want to compact phone, santoni is best choice
Redmi 4X has several ROM's even project treble supported ROM's too.
Custom kernels available too.Development is quite good.
I think xiaomi less likely to make 5inch device in future too because as they are releasing newer devices in the range of 5.5 to 5.9 inches. For e.g. Redmi 6 has 5.5 inch display Maybe they produce 5 inch display phone with tight budget in future e.g. Redmi 4A.
I would say at least go for SD 625 device if there is any 5 inch device.
You've mentioned you might go for Lenovo P2 which has 5.5 inch display considering this Redmi 5 would be fine since it has 5.7 inch display and SD 450 and it's better than SD 435 and has same GPU as SD 625.
If there's any xiaomi store out there near by you live then try out newer xiaomi device yourself to get better decision on which device to get.
SD 435 is based on 28nm technology and now almost all new SD chipsets are based on 14nm or lower so it's better to get this devices.
With using only mobile data on Redmi 4X I do need to charge device in evening or night.
With mix usage it lasts 1½ days which translates roughly around 8 hours of sot. On MIUI 8 I used to get around 10hours of sot.
If you buy Redmi 4X now there's very chance that your phone will have white color notification LED.
Do let us know which one you buy
In the end I bought Redmi 4X since it was quite cheap. It fits nice in my hand. I'm not using it as daily yet, but "play" with it now.
Can you suggest me some nice custom roms (with as little bugs as possible)? Or maybe miui is the way to go (global or xiaomi.eu?). I just wish I could deactivate fingerprint scanner (I don't use it, but touching it with finger accidentaly wakes phone) and remove/disable some google apps. I heard root on miui is available on xiaomi.eu version.
First(I am sure you know it) get device's bootloader unlocked, it a quiet hectic process and will take few days.
The custom ROM's I'll recommend you are list below.
I have personally tried all of them and they are pretty good almost bugless, with good battery backup.
I haven't tried any custom kernel so can't say anything about them. If you wish you can try.
All of them are Oreo based.
1. Resurrection Remix OS.
2. DOT OS.
3. Nitrogen OS.
4. Havoc OS.
I recommend the new Xaiomi Mi A2 lite. It´s very handy too.

Any drawabacks on RR? I heard battery does not last as long on custom as on miui. How about camera and flashlight gestures? Can I set double click on power/volume button to trigger them? Or long click?
sorry doublepost
Of course no. Sd 435 is too old for q3 2k18. I think the minimum soc right now is sd636 (redmi note 5, and other phone with that soc). Iam currently using redmi 4x, but I'll trade this phone to a newer xiaomi (I dont have a lot of money, so i'll choose xiaomi)

I didn't faced any bugs since my usage was using social media apps, some photo editing apps, calls, camera (gcam) and playing PUBG mobile and clash royale.
I noticed the battery drain faster while playing pubgm in rr than miui so yes it does eat more battery when comparing it to miui. Using custom kernel you may get good battery life.
When using it on 4G LTE the battery was draining fast too and experienced device to go warm.
Yes, you can set camera button as far as I remember.
The last time i used rr was in last two weeks of April and early few days of May.
Last build was released in April and later there's no update made available yet.
I think we'll be looking at directly Android P based rr in next update.
To get latest security patch and Android P experience I moved to DOT OS and it's a good build and it also has all the customization that are available in rr and so does the havoc OS.
In my opinion all custom ROM's doesn't have battery backup like MIUI but it's not bad it's decent.
Flashlight gesture I don't know I didn't tried that but it should be available there.
Currently I am using MIUI 10 Global beta and battery backup is good I get SOT around 8 hours with mix usage but again when using 4G LTE it drops down to 4 or 5 hours of SOT.
Battery saver helps a little bit so it's turned on all the time.

I am currently using AOSP EXTENDED. It is smooth and bugless. It's Oreo based.
Use havoc os with phantom kernel (thunder plug hotplug) (alucard governor) you'll be amazed. HAVOC OS > Dot OS in both battery life and performance and fluidity.
10+ SOT

10+ hours of SOT is just fantastic.
I(or rather we) used to had such SOT on MIUI 8.
I'll try this combinations soon in few days, currently on MIUI 10 Global beta 8.8.2.
Does firmware version matter?

Suggest me a stable ROM for my Mi Mix 256gb gold edition

Hi,
Sorry for my english.
I'm having overheating issues after last MIUI update.
I can't play PUBG because of lags. My ping fluctuating a lot. My internet connection is fine.
I want to flash the best custom rom available to play PUBG smoothly.
Can anybody suggest me a good ROM & step by step guide to flash it?
Thanks in advance.
I am interested a bit in this myself. Personally I am running Pixel Experience 9.0 and it is very stable, only thing people report not working is hotspot and proximity sensor working if it feels like it - for me it was always like this though, I always talk on loud speaker anyway.
I do not game that much, the phone is a few generations old, so you'd be better of buying Poco F1, Mi 8 or 9 in my opinion if you want good performance.
Pie Crdroid works very good

Yes. I tried almost all ROMs. Gaming performance is still same.
Then I guess it is the phone poorly disposing of heat, quite well known issue for this model, ROMs won't fix hardware.
Anyway, back to main topic, I've daylied official Lineage 16.0 since it was released a couple weeks ago. Personally I am experiencing quite many bugs, like white notifications in dark mode and audio problems. YMMV, but personally I'll be going back to Pixel Experience once April update is up, as I was having zero problems with it.
Your English is fine. Try this ROM.

I've been using the HAVOC OS...
So far it is the fastest rom in terms of gaming...
Expect that your Mix will not lag in any games but at the cost of overheating...

Overheat problem is the same on all phone and computer. It has (almost) nothing to do with the ROM. The main factor is the voltage. On all my PCs I undervolt CPU and fine tune the clock speed of GPU (so the core voltage also stay in the low range). It works the same on a phone. Check undervolting guide for phone.
When the phone overheat, it lower its clock speed and voltage to allow heat dissipation.
You might want to find a good cooling fan for you phone if you're gaming.
I recommend using kernel adiutor 0.9.11.1 available on apkmirror with root access to configure CPU frequency. I did this on lineageos 16.1 with my Xiaomi Mi Mix and it's working much better than ever. I configured the frequencies and thermal protection, also the governors for BIG and LITTLE cores.
Before doing that I had huge performance and heating problems.

an question about gapps and microg.

Please anyone tell me that if i use microg instead of gapps .
Did i get a little boost in pubg mobile??
And also please tell me benefits of using gapps and microg please.
MicroG and Gapps are sets of Google applications.
Any Gapps has nothing to do with performance of game or the device. Gapps are of your choice which and how many Google applications you want in your device from MicroG/nano/pico/micro and so on further.
To have better or good performance you should be looking at the specific ROM and it's performance and how optimized it is for gaming or any other specific tasks.
You can opt out for custom kernel to have little more good performance at gaming.
There are several kernels are available choose the one best suit for your needs. There are kernels which are made for gaming/to have good battery backup/to have good performance or both. So choose wisely if you want to use custom kernel. You should be looking at custom kernel if the ROM provided kernel or the ROM itself doesn't meets your expectations.

Please tell me best rom and kernal for playing pubg.
Currently i am on havoc os .
So which kernel should i use.
I'm a heavy gamer and use my Redmi 4X mostly for games. I have SyberiaOS which is fantastic with games, no changes in kernel or ROM itself, just turned off some apps at boot. I flashed with nano Gapps but I use Google apps all the time so I installed almost all of them from the Play Store. I tried Pixel Experience for a few days and despite less RAM usage I couldn't get used to it, I missed some features and couldn't get as pleasant game experience as on Syberia ROM. I Play Guns od Boom which is also heavy on RAM almost the same as PUGB and got lag on PE.

After changing kernel to wolf kernel
Pubg gameplay becomes smooth
But device heats like hell.
I read the whole thread about Havoc-OS because I wanted to try it and found out that it may cause extensive heating that's why ultimately I didn't flash it. I've never experienced heating issues on 4X but of course it gets warmer when playing games or movies but not that much it should concern me (although that's subjective. My school mate drinks boiling water tea and it's nothing to her. ).
