Calling plus - simultaneous voice and data - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Does above know when this is coming to the note 8. That's a major reason I upgraded from the note 4. I was shocked when I upgraded from the note 2 and lost simultaneous voice and data and have been suffering ever since.

Patiently waiting on this as well
Update: Now working! 11/22/2017
Followed instructions on post 41 in this tread (Thanks to BlueFox for sharing The original how To post)

when sprint release this for the note 8 or you maybe able to pull this form a rooted s8 by spr.

well when i rooted spr note 8 VoLTE and WiFi was working hmmm please don't ask because idk how this is without the up date. yes it works as i can make call but it has no toggle for it. i will take a screen shot in a sec. aslo do any one might know where VoLTE is stored at, if i can find out where this is at....maybe i can pull it for root and non rooted phones (maybe Non-rooted phones)

Here is a picture

Waiting on this as well..come on Sprint

Maybe I can give the xml file for Bolts but u gotta have root

Just did a 5 minute phone call while using my hotspot to my tv for Netflix and I noticed it wasn't cutting off so I tried some web surfing
while on call and it worked.
Didn't know this was coming back? Haven't had it since the S3

Found this
I found these using an activity launcher, i still havent tried it yet(volte), and i also found a call recorder, and the spam and caller id app but i dont think it works atm

based off his screenshots it looks like hes running the XAS software with sprint csc.
If you flash the unlocked tar image to the phone it will give you volte, but it wasn't working for me unless i was already on wifi calling and then left the wifi network i could continue using data, once i got off phone and made a new call on cellular it wasn't working.

Any updates how we can enable the "Talk and Data" option? with all the technology of today, its amazing this isnt enabled with any software release out of the box

Mine works on incoming calls only. If I make a call it does not work
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app

It sucks that yes with all this technology, Sprint is so F behind. Volte should be available for unlock and carrier phone right out of the box. I mean for carrier S8 it came out a bit late, but not as late as the Note 8.
And why does Tmob. Is able to do Volte and hotspot. Just like that.
If I wasn't under a grandfather plan, Zero plan, I will have ditch Sprint long time ago.
Thank God for the gurus here at XDA, makes for some tweaking, while we wait for the Calling Plus...

No not that it was never coming back. It just wasn't coming back till Sprint had VoLTE infrastructure in place and they turn it on.
I think it is still a year or two out before they get that going. The good thing is if they actually activate it our phones are compatible for it.
Turning this stuff on, on our end won't work till Sprint turns it on, on their end.

Visual Voicemail on AT&T Samsung Focus S

If you have a Dev Unlocked Focus S on At&t and update via to 8107 you NEED to flash 7740 first then 8107. Make sure to Include the language cabs as well......Baciscally just follow what Heathcliff74 state in his thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306415
You can change you plan via at&t to add LTE with visual voicemail and it will work and very well I might add, on our focus s'
It also fixes the dimming issues and keyboard issues.

I tired this, and it doesn't seem to work.
Is there a specific procedure to getting it activated through AT&T? I changed my plan online to get the new LTE plans, and tried to activate it and it didn't work. I also called them and asked them to activate VVM on my phone, and they said it doesn't support it.
Do what you said...change option on device...you don't need to call them....then call you voicemail and put your in....and VM will show up.

Change what option on the device? Under phone settings it says "Traditional Voicemail" below that it has a button to call voicemail, and below that a message saying in order to get VVM you have to have it activated on your account first.
If possible, can you be specific as to what needs to be changed and where, and give a full explanation of the procedure?
I also have a vivid that is on the LTE plan with VVM. I just updated switched the sim and that's it......called VM to check messsages and VVM was there.

So, tell me if I've got this right. You activated VVM on your vivid and then put that SIM in your Focus S (after flashing 7740, then updating to 8107). And now VVM functions on your Focus S which is on AT&T US?
I have a vivid on the att lte with VVM plan. VVM was active on the vivid for a while. All I did was update my focus s from 7720 , 7740, and 8710. Switched Sims called voice mail put in my password listen to 2 messages hung up and a minute later VVM was there.....surprised me....but its there none the less.

So, AT&T is choosing not to support the feature that is really already in place?
---------- Post added at 06:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 PM ----------
Also, it seems you've got to have an LTE plan, which means you need an LTE phone (with an OS other than WP) in order to activate the VVM (and LTE).
Until the titan II comes out.....quite possible.

Pretty much. AT&T has stated they were still "testing it" as far back as October. This is ridiculous imo. I'm happy with AT&T overall with their service, and how many new WP devices they are getting, but I'm really having a hard time giving them a pass on how long this is taking to implement.
The death star has always been a pain in the ass.

They still may not allow us to activate VVM without an Android or iOS device on our plans. Not sure, but, I don't think the Lumia 900 or Titan II will be all that AT&T is waiting for. Hopefully, though...

Weird, I'm on the new version and dimming issues still abound. I hate the stupid automatic dimmer, but it seems the only way to turn it off is to disable automatic brightness, turn off the samsung auto-dimmer, then turn back automatic brightness on for it to stick. A reboot resets it and the stupid samsung dimmer turns on again.

You are correct...However dimming issues still persisted when on 7720 and auto brightness in extra settings was set to "off".
8107 seemed to remedy this.
Anyone replicate this yet?
I actually replicated this kind of. I switched to a friends phone for a minute and switched my plan online to the 4G LTE. I then setup VVM on the android phone. I then put my sim back in my Focus Flash. When I clicked on my new voicemail notification, it prompted me for my Voicemail password. It then added the swipe to the side capability for visual voicemail. However, it has problems connecting, so it doesnt seem to completely work for me. Any ideas OP?
Download the wireless manager for Samsung and check the auto APN box. Reboot.

Visual voicemail t mobile prepaid

Alright guys. Ran a search and didn't see topic yet (not for T-Mobile anyhow) so I figured I would start one.
I use T-Mobile prepaid. I've not seen a prepaid phone be able to utilize the visual voicemail app on T-Mobile monthly 4g...until now.
I just installed it on my nexus 4 and it works.
And yes... I know Google voice does as well. I use voice but not everyone calls my Google voice number, so I've been wanting to get visual voicemail straight from T-Mobile for a while. I am glad this works now and I hope it helps some of you out.

They don't need to call your Google voice number to leave a message there. You just need to have your phone forward to g voice.

Ya that's crazy! I just downloaded the visual voice-mail app and it actually worked!! This is the first phone that ever let me use my $30 prepaid plan and have vvm... Well, that works only if people call your g voice number only. If anyone calls your cell number they just dont get an option to leave a VM at all. In my case a good number of people still call my cell number so that isnt really a good option.

People with the $30 plan actually give that number out? I ported to GV and don't even know my $30 plan number! I let Google Voice handle everything, including message transcription. Called 611 and had them disable my T-Mo voicemail.
Loads better than a carrier branded VVM.

What is this visual voicemail you speak of? (I'm switching to T-mobile soon) TIA
YES! I've been waiting for others to post about this. I've noticed that mine has been working for about two weeks. I almost cried when I realized it started working. I hope it's not just some flaw in the VVM app update that's allowing us onto it. But one thing I did notice is that MetroPCS offers VVM on their plans of equal value. Maybe T-Mobile is following suit. Btw, I'm on the $60 T-Mobile Monthly4G plan.

The t mobile visual voicemail app. Basically it shows you who your voicemail is from
And allows you to pick and choose which voicemail you want to listen to rather than dialing out and having to listen to all of them.

I also use the T-Mobile VVM app since I'm on prepaid, works just fine, but I don't see why it can't be integrated into the stock phone app.
Can someone on a T-Mobile-based MVNO like StraightTalk or Solavei try the T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app and see if it works?

Phone sending one text 9 times?

Not sure if this is a Sprint issue or a phone issue... My phone is showing texts as "Sending" for a very long time. The recipient is reporting receipt of the same messages like 9 times. How do I tell if this is my phone, or a Sprint issue?
Edit: Some texts also report failed to send when they didn't fail to send. And all this seems to happen when I'm connected to my corporate wifi, when on LTE, it seems to be okay.
I had this same issue on the first day of use. I have Ting (Sprint). Everything happened like you explained, the text took forever to send on my end, and then the person received it around 10 times. Luckily, nobody has complained since. Hopefully the issue was corrected.

Not corrected yet for me.
I'm on sprint also... My text take a long time also, but for me I have to switch to 3g for them to send. They just spin if I don't switch. I'm thinking it's a phone issue because they sent just fine on my G2 running lollipop.

Could be related to something with the wifi network I'm on, because last night I was on my home wifi and it was fine, no multiple texts and they sent VERY quick. When I'm on my corporate wifi it's slow, gives false failure messages and sends a ton of times. Is Lollipop different with sending texts somehow that wifi can impact it?
Edit: Jinxed myself. Happened while on LTE. Maybe it's an area issue or something... This zip code has tons of issues with Sprint.
Known issue, there is a thread further down. There is a 20 plus page thread at Sprints CS board too. Supposedly the update on 12/15 will correct the issue.
The current workaround is to put your phone in 3G mode. If it's on LTE it spits out numerous texts.

without root you have to go off the tethering on your plan if you have it. dont go with the new tmobile unlimited plans because they charge for tethering and it's not as much as you can get now. there's really not anything similar to the note 7. the note 5 comes to mind but you had the note 4 so i'm guessing you didnt like the note 5. the international note 7 has root so you could go that route. it has bands for tmobile use.

tmobile uses Frequencies: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), Band 12 (700 MHz).
the n930F uses:
LTE Cat9 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 (Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,18,19,20,25,26,28)
TD-LTE 1900/2300/2500/2600 (Bands 38,39,40,41)
so yes it is tmobile compatible.

good point. i forgot about the wifi calling. but imo thats not a make or break thing because you can still get volte and that should be good enough. trade wifi calling for root. sounds like a decent trade to me.

Unless your lte signal is equally as crappy. Without WiFi calling I may as well put my in airplane mode when I get home.

Yeah, for me I couldn't because of service around my house but for many it's acceptable. I would get an international version if I didn't need wifi calling. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the international version was just updated and locked down.

my lte signal is not crappy at all. i'm in a decent area. i normally turn off wifi calling to save some battery and on calls i dont have a problem with quality because of volte. i have a tmobile wifi calling router but honestly i dont use it much for wifi calling. i use it for normal internet because its a very good quality router.

I'll recommend a Nexus 6P, it's a gorgeous phone, and it's full pure android, so no problem rooting it legally from google.
no problem with bands, as it's multi band.
I'm using Wind (T-mobile partner), I too only buy phones that works with AWS bands
for the past few years, all phones are true multi-bands, so we no longer have issues with phones not supporting AWS
I too was considering the Nexus 6P before picking up the Note 7.... which I might either return or sell, if root is not available in the next 30 days

I understand why someone wouldn't need it but not knowing the use case of the guy asking the question it's better to assume all possibilities rather than just your own.
I for one cannot send a text message at home without WiFi calling connected. That may be a consideration for him to take into account when making his decision.
Also the area he lives in may not support volte

Yeah it looks like a nice phone but the display is not as good. What do you use root for?

Titanium Backup, i've been using it for many many years.
The stupid Samsung "Smart Switch" (not smart enough) software doesn't work, it doesn't transfer your Apps/Games and safe games, or Apps data.
Which is why Titanium Backup is a must.
Then I also use use Droid Firewall, to manually control what comes in and out via. It's a great tool to avoid browser malware from being installed into your phone unexpectedly while browsing the web, or trying out some AD Bomb Infested Apps from Google Play.
Being able to choose what gets to connect to the internet, makes it easy to identify. Nothing goes behind my back without knowing which App is sending/receiving data.
There are a lot of other Apps I use which requires root, but they are of less importance. Apps like Widgetsoid, CPU Speed control, GPU speed control, SD card Boost, restart to Recovery Mode, and much more, basically all the Apps that can let you have full control over your phone.
Which is why most manufacture they do not like the idea of the "End User" messing around with their phone, because we are not "Owner" of our own phone, so we don't get to be "Admins"
That's the only nice thing about Nexus phones, you are guaranteed Admin / Root access.
But unfortunately as you mentioned, Nexus phones even the top of the line, are not always the best.
Samsung makes the best phone, but they are getting worse and worse at letting the "Consumer" do what they want with the phone.

Unlocked phone on Verizon network (hotspot)

Can anyone using an unlocked note 8 let me know if you can still use the hotspot feature?
Also curious if you have an unlocked S8 or S7 , does the hotspot work?

Yes I read that people with the unlocked s8 can use the hotspot without Verizon getting in the way. So the unlocked Note8 should be the same. The only trade-off is you do not get Wi-Fi calling or HD calling because the firmware does not support it. I don't use those features so it doesn't bother me. You can flash the Verzion firmware and get those features but you lose the hotspot. Idk if you can go back to carrier unlocked firmware so I'm not messing with it.

Yea I dont use wifi calling, but love my hotspot, so tradeoff works for me, ty
Niceee, no problem gingi ! That's the main reason I wanted root in the past. I wish I knew about the unlocked phone loophole sooner lol..

There's a few scripts that you can run and it gives you HD calling.

I had no idea this was possible. I thought everyone using Nougat was locked out of hotspot without root regardless of the phone being unlocked. If that's the case, I'd return the Note I ordered from Verizon and just buy it from Bestbuy.

Thank you much!
I did my best for a mini tutorial. The app is called shortcut master
For users in the "New" Verizon Unlimited plan, would an unlocked phone bypass the 15GB limit on hotspot before they throttle you to 3G?
