Unlocking the bootloader on a Chinese Redmi 4x (without understanding Chinese!) - Xiaomi Redmi 4X Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a Redmi 4X, and it looks like it's a little cheaper to get the Chinese version. They're also more readily available. I'm planning to install Lineage OS or another custom ROM (whichever is 'best'). Has anyone here managed to unlock the bootloader on a Chinese device, while not understanding Chinese? Is there a guide with screenshots that I can follow? I will happily take the screenshots if you can help me through the steps. Unlocking seems quite simple, but I worry about navigating the menus without understanding what they say
-Walter

Imho you can switch the language to english.

Not when it has Chinese ROM, I thought?

Whaaaat?! Jeez, that's a lot of wasted research that I've been doing on this :cyclops:
Thanks, ConradB!

You can definitely switch the language to English. Make sure to check if it supports the bands you need in your area though. I'm in the US and Global version is the only version that works here with 4g.

Ah OK. Why would it have a fake ROM from the store and should I change the ROM? Sorry I'm a novice with this phone

Because the distributor wants you to have it, in order to prevent you claiming insurance when your phone breaks due to updates and/or any kind of modifications. Yes, you should change it to official ROM and read a lot, A LOT of existing forum topics and documentations, unless you want to keep yourself locked with that fake ROM functionality.

Why would a phone with an official ROM break due to updates? Surely an official ROM is more stable. I will read the stickies thanks

Don't think that far. Just think that the distributor doesn't want you to modify the ROM in any way than the one they've been testing (and adding bloatwares) on.
What rom should I be installing? I have read all the forums posts but alot of people seem to be using my (fake) eu rom perfectly and are happy with it.
Can someone send me a link to exactly the rom I should be using. All I want is a rom that will update when the new android version comes out, I have had no updates yet with this rom so im not sure if it will ever update...
Should I even be changing the rom I have. I dont have any interest in the other roms available bar official and eu (fake official)
tks

you can choose the Developer ROM, so probably u will get the Android Nougat before the other users.
Thanks and if I just wanted the most stable official ROM that will get updates over time which would be the choice with English language that most people outside China ie would go for?

COR-TL10 - I want to install a global ROM, is it possible??

As stated in the title, I'm helping someone (trying to anyways) with their Chinese variant of the honor play, and am having a lot of trouble finding any information or success stories for getting a global ROM on the Chinese variant. I confirmed that this phone has an unlocked bootloader. I saw one post saying that it's simply not possible because of a different modem in the TL10, please someone help me out. This Chinese ROM is problematic. Otherwise great device!
Thanks
Probably not as while debranding it may end up with locked frp. Had this been other variant, I just posted a debranding method in development section

Well whatever wouldn't be the Chinese version, everytime I reset it it reinstalled all of the bloatware, and it won't even let me change the launchers. So I guess whichever is the most stable global version. I've found information but I found myself confused by must of it. I know how to use ADB and root and install TWRP.

We also want. But atm we need to wait. There is no working crossflash solution tested. LG-UP 1.16 doesn't work. LG-UP 1.15 cmd line has not been tested. It could brick the device.

Question No laptop fash of Stock EU or Global?

I do not own a laptop .
Is there any way I can download and flash a stock MIUI RoM to replace the Vodafone branding on this phone.
Help if you can please
I also hear the EU RoM works better/best. Is this true?

Thank you for clarifying.
Ok so ..
Does the Vodafone branding compromise my experience in any way? For example, it might not lock on to all bands in a frequency being transmitted from a mast, it might slow it down, it might prevent further MIUI updates, and so on?

Thank you muchly. You've been a great help..I don't feel purchasing a laptop is worth the benefit of a delayed update. I'm on MIUI13 and happy. If I get 14 then fine. If not, fine again.
Thank you so much for your replies .

I've actually never seen it listed for download. Most people want to get away from it because it's missing a lot. Is there a reason why you want to install it? There's better roms if you need another language besides English or Chinese.
