[Q][HELP] first-timer, root and new rom (LineageOS), with heimdall - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
I joined the xda-dev forum for help. I recently acquired from my uncle an old Galaxy S Advance I9070 and decided to repurpose it by rooting it and installing LineageOS (I found it here [ROM][7.1.2] LineageOS 14.1 for GT-I8190/GT-I9070 [2017-06-09])
My everyday computer OS is ubuntu, but with a friend's window pc I tried Odin to install TWRP.. and got a FAIL! error message.
Now I get the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen when I switch on the device; when I put the phone in download mode I read
Code:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9070
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
I still would like to use this phone - it would also be my first smartphone as well!
But I'm not sure what should I do now.
Should I try to install TWRP again? Or should I load another firmware?
Any help is very appreciated

Which ROM are you running now? Stock Gingerbread or Jelly Bean?

well, if you can put your phone in recovery mode, then download these 3 files: "https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xZ2nqDWXXLNNTXZkcnPKjpLe51t32_ch" and Mk kernel 6.0.1 noswp release. Power on your phone in recovery (vol +, Home, Pwr), install zip from sd card, install "CWM.zip" first, push home button and you will be in cwm recovery, then install "update.zip". Now you can install root if you want to use samsung's firmware or install mk kernel to be able to install others roms.

Thanks guys for the replies.
I almost succeeded in making this old phone work!
I reinstalled the firmware, then I rooted the device and installed cocore + twrp. I then tried to install the CM14.1 build from @3liteking148 but I was not successful.
Can you guys recommend and nice, stable rom for this device?

[Q] What`s the correct kernel to my device??

Hi guys. I have a I9000 and i want to install the CyanogenMod 9 on it. I`ve Already rooted my phone using the Unlock Root. However, I can`t go to the Clockworkmod recovery to install customs rooms. I tried to flash the CWM recovery using the Rom Manager app, but when i was installing, an error happened. I figured out that the problem is my kernel that is not compatible with the CWM. I know that i have to flash a compatible kernel using Odin, but which kernel should i flash??? My device is a Galaxy S I9000, 2.3.5 android, and 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 kernel. Already rooted. Please someone could help me??
Thank you so much
Don't use rom manager, use Odin to flash, CWM is bundled with rooted kernel (CF-root, Semaphore)

Hi, I have the same error problem, cf root was not bundled with my own root package. I flashed to gingerbread 2.3.6 xwjw1, I also tried rom manager to flash recovery and it was successful, but when I rebooted to recovery to backup my current rom it bootes to the android (3e) recovery. As I've discovered it seems rom manager is not compatible with the xwjw1 series. How do I get the correct cf root for xwjw1? Believe me I have tried google and am scared of the things I see since "jw1" is not behind any of the cf root packages I see. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On xwjw1 you can Odin flash as PDA Semaphore 250 tar kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Untick re-partition before flashing.
After reboot you may need to install Superuser from Play Store.
That will give you root, CWM, gingerbread ready for CM9.1

Use Odin to flash (put .tar in PDA and uncheck repartition). You can flash Semaphore JVT 1.8.0 or CF-Root v4.3

Thanks Sunny men, but OT's advice worked, I can now boot to semaphore recovery and wipe etc.
Question though, if I now flash cm9.1 rom, will I be able to boot to recovery without the holding any button combinations. What I mean is can I boot to recovery from the shutdown menu or do I need an app for it?
Also is cm9.1 the best rom for my phone? any thots guys? Thanks again.

Yes, in CM 9.1 you can boot directly to recovery from the shutdown menu. CM 9.1 is very stable and fast, so try it. And when you flash CM9 for the first time, your galaxy will go into a bootloop. Then remove the battery, put it in, go to recovery with 3-button configuration and flash it again.

Thanks sin007, that is invaluable advice. Will do just that. thanks again.
Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I have flashed CM 9.1 successfully.
Everything works OK for now.
Also flashed gapps, CM 9.1 seems to be a great ROM.
I have a question though, the gapps I flashed seems to have only a few Google apps, play store and Google talk. The file size was 49mb so is that all that's in gapps or is there a hidden mode or something.
Also, sin007 I can't find any reboot to recovery from the shutdown menu, though I flashed a stable version of CM 9.1 and not a "nighty version". Could that be the reason? But no biggie, CM 9.1 comes with rom manager.
Finally I wouldn't mind any tips you guys have on making the most out of the ROM.
Thanks and all the best.
Shutdown menu - Reboot - Recovery
OK?
There is an APP on google play, sgs kernel flash, it is easier and faster than Odin. And works perfectly. I've flash the speedmod kernel and finally upgrade to cyanogenmod 9.1.
Anyone knows if this APP works on galaxy s2 (i9100)?
Thankss

[Q] Help . n700 brik

Hi guys,
I have a big problem and hope that someone can help. Today i rooted my note and i proceed in updating my kernel(used GL_HYDRACORE_v7_STD with mobile odin pro). After i flashed it my phone won't boot i can only see samsung galaxy note and that's it.
What can i do?
Thanks in advance.
You have to be more specific and give details.
What was the rom and kernel when your phone was okay.
How you did the rooting.
Did you confirm rooting.
Did you try to flash any other rom or just kernel.
Are you able to go to recovery and/or download mode.

Phone was on stock 4.0.4 i think, haven't flashed any other rom.
Root was oke rooted from recovery with Root_SuperSu 0.95
root was confirmed with root checker
i can go to recovery vol up + home + power
Until now brick isn't confirmed here. Think positive.
Alternatives:
In recovery: restore a backup - if you made one.
In recovery: install philz kernel, reboot into recovery, install a Custom Rom
In download mode: install a Stock Rom oder a prerooted Rom with PC Odin
Then we continue with analyzing - if not already solved then.

i am new to android so i need a detailed tutorial on how to do these things.
Didn't make backup.
Well there are very detailed guides here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1346&nocache=1 Just take your time.
1:- search for speedmod kernel (as Philz needs information to match your ROM), connect your Phone to PC and see if you can put that zip on SD card. then boot your phone in recovery Vol up etc and flash that zip.
reboot recovery and wipe data Factory reste and dalvik. reboot phone and hope it works.
If not then from same forum find a suitable ICS/GB rom and flash it using PC Odine. detailed giud and downloads are in same thread.
BTW. This galaxy note I have is my first Android phone and I have not only soft bricked it once and recovered, but also have flashed 7 different roms my current rom is 4.1.2 JB. And I did all this just by reading these forums. you check my post count. So my suggestion is take your time, search for correct threads and trust me there are more than enough people here to help.
You are right. I have flashed several ics and leaked jb custom roms and note is my first smart phone. Believe me, not even a soft brick. All because reading in details of this forum, before doing anything.

Hi everyone,
I just loaded the V2.8_1535 stock rom (5.1) for Lenovo K3 note. The rom works find, but I couldn't flash my previous CWM recovery used for Lollipop 5.0 onto this new rom. I was using ADB flash method. At the end of recovery flash it simply says failed. My goal is to put gapps on. So what should I do next? Can someone show me how to flash recovery onto this rom, or is there any other way to load gapps on? Thanks in advance.
Still same issue...

The phone is too old to stay many developers (not much left) :crying:
Here is CWM: update.zip
If you need kernel, then after flash this: [Kernel][3.0.101] MK kernel r6
I think these files are only going on I9070 phone. I'm not sure that will be fine on i9070p.
If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Tomorrow i prepare ODIN and flash the latest official rom. After that from stock recovery i thinks i can flash the root.zip for root access....... using flashify for installing recovery and after that finally installed this 10.2 and after that install the kernel here.
I thinks it's not the best solution...... but it's but it's better than nothing I need only to use this i9070 only for emergency or backup smartphone

This is the right order for me after Odin;
in recovery: wipe, flash update.zip, flash mkkernel zip, flash root.zip and then custom rom + gapps.
I don't flash kernel on custom rom. You know that you need it or not. I think that's unnecessary. I would rather flashing kernel before flashing custom rom.

Can't install TWRP on my Galaxy S2 I9100. Tried Everything

Hi guys, my name is Ali Reza. I have a Samsung Galaxy SII I9100. When I first got this phone, I rooted it and wanted to flash a custom recovery to flash ROMs, but I couldn't. I tried everything.
1) Flashable Zip File
2) Odin
3) Flashify and other apps
4) Heimdall Suite
But nothing worked for me
I managed to install CWM Touch Recovery using the kernel for Android 5.1.1 but I can only flash ROMs whose android version is 5.1.1. I want to flash Android 7.1 that is the Lineage OS on my device. For that I require TWRP recovery. I searched for this on all websites. Some say that before flashing TWRP recovery I require TWRP kernel. I searched for the kernel but couldn't find it. Some say that before flashing the latest version, we need to flash the old version, and using that recovery we have to update TWRP to the latest version. I tried that but I failed. Plz help me install TWRP on my device or plz provide me the kernel for android 7.1.1. Thank You
