Android One: Project Fi version vs Regular Motorola version - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Does both the Project Fi version and Regular Motorola version that is up for preorder tomorrow belong in the Android One Family? Or are they going to be on different update paths again?

They do not use the same software.
The regular Moto X4 has a bunch of Motorola software, and includes Alexa. The Android One Moto X4 will be a strictly 100% google software phone, and will include the google assistant. There may be other differences, but we're not sure yet. The Regular X4 touts features like "professional mode" on their camera, and a bluetooth system that will connect to and stream audio to 4 speakers at the same time. It's not sure if these features will make it to the Project One X4. The Project One X4 should get updates faster, and is promised to get Oreo before the end of the year. The Reg X4 will get Oreo as well, but we're not sure when.
Since it's the same hardware on both, and since the Android One X4 has been promised to upgrade to Android P, I would imagine the Regular X4 would also get P, but don't quote me on that.
Note: upgrading to Oreo is also required to unlock the Bluetooth 5.0 features. Android 7.1 only allows up to 4.2.

I received my Project Fi version this afternoon and it still has a surprising amount of Moto software features. It is not 100% pure Android.
Both Moto Actions and Moto Display are present.
Also the Camera app/experience is fully Moto.
No Alexa of course. And the Multi device Bluetooth control doesn't seem to be here.

Does this mean that in order to root, we will need to wait for a Fi-specific recovery image from twrp or cwm?

I'm honestly not sure, but I doubt it... If a custom recovery is ported/developed for the X4 it will most likely work on any X4 that is bootloader unlockable. I don't think the software channel will matter.

I just figured out there are more than one variant of Moto X4, I found out Android One version of Moto X4 has bluetooth 4.2 while original version of Moto X4 has Bluetooth 5.0.
I asked Project Fi support team any Moto X4 will work on Project Fi so I'm thinking to order unlocked version to use the hardware 100% for same price.

That is only partially true.
Hardware:
There are multiple hardware variants of the X4. Most of them have to do with antenna frequencies for different countries, and dual-sim options. From what I can tell, most American phones are the same hardware: "XT1900-1". There are multiple software variants, depending on who you bought it from (retail, Amazon, Fi, etc), but it's all the same hardware.
Bluetooth:
All Moto X4 have a Bluetooth 5.0 chip in them. Android Nougat only supports Bluetooth 4.2, so we're software limited to 4.2 for now. This is true for ALL software versions of the phone. It's a driver issue, and not something that Motorola can bypass. Android Oreo supports Bluetooth 5.0, so we will "unlock" 5.0 support when we get the 8.0 upgrade. Again, this is true for all software variants, not just Fi or retail.

no problem bro. anyway thanks for replying. btw my intention was to find out if I could flash a stock image we have, and.this doesnt belong in this thread, idk why I posted here hehehe

It seems the Android one version does not support one button nav or Moto key. Other Moto actions like chop for flashlight and twist for camera are there however. Not sure if this is just an oversight on motorolas part or not.

I have a Fi Moto X4 and the chop to turn the camera on works, however have not looked up what your referring to about the one button nav or Moto key is.

Moto Voice on Android One version?
I'm seriously considering coming back to Motorola with the Moto X4. The Moto Voice app really has the best in-car experience with Ford Sync systems. However, what I don't like with Moto is the slow update schedule.
So, I thought I found the perfect phone when they announced the Moto X4 Android One version, except that it doesn't look like Moto Voice is available on that version. Has anyone tried to install Moto Voice on the Android One version? Does anyone know what would prevent installing this app?
Thanks much!

Can I use the AndroidOne on T-Mobile?

[Q] Soak Test for Moto X 2013 Confirmed as live by Motorola - Anybody have it yet?

Just done a quick live chat with Motorola support regarding Lollipop on the Moto X 2013 and he advised that the soak test is already under way. Does anyone have this update yet? I'm too impatient to wait for the OTA so wondering if anyone has the ROM uploaded anywhere bugs and all?
Not sure how to show screenshot on here but have attached a picture of the chat
The chat guys don't know that much... I would take anything they say with a grain of salt.
@richwright1, I wouldn't consider that "confirmed"
There is no mention of 2013 vs 2014 until you bring it up halfway through the chat, and the Moto rep never mentions 2013 vs 2014, or Gen 1 vs Gen 2.
I also chatted with support here in india.
he said that the soak tests are going on for moto g gen 1 devices in india and he had no info on moto x
I was on the 'MOTO X 2013' support chat and not the 2014 so the live chat was regarding the specific device already if that helps

Here in Brazil a friend of my also received information about the soak test of the 2013 Moto X in India.
Yeah they don't know anything about android 5 update . In morning i read that motorola has started chat support in india. So i thought i would give a try. Here is a screenshot of my conversation with motorola. They are not giving any information about update.
Its gonna be equal of the second generation, first the moto g and after that the moto x.

HELP !!!
GUYS GUYS HELP ME.
I'll keep it short. Moto X XT 1052 . Screen broken. LCD working. Getting just the SCREEN somewhere but for Moto X XT 1060.
Will there be any difference in the size, shape or compatibility between XT 1052 and XT 1060.
The catch is seller is selling XT 1056, 1058, 1060 outer glass at Different Prices. So, if screen size is same then why different prices ??
PLS HELP !!

You might have more success in a new thread, or another thread about the LCD glass, not the soak test.
To my knowledge, all the phones are physically the same size/shape/etc. The screen should fit regardless of what model it says it is for. Anyone else can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in that thought.
Yaa buddy sorry for posting here. Wanted a quick opinion.
Even i feel that the variants shouldn't vary in the pricing, though i also have no idea why is the seller selling different variant screens at different prices.
I think that they are unaware of the variant number and have used it randomly. I think ill buy that outer glass and wish me luck that i could get it replaces successfully cuz its damn difficult and risky to do that ..

[Q] Rogers version of Moto X ?

Hey guys,
Let me first apologize if I'm not at the right place.
Didn't know there were two different "versions" of the Moto X (2013 & 2014) but my dad asked me to order him a specific case for his Moto X and I don't know which version exactly he owns.
Now, asking him details about his screen's size, build number of whatever informatoin appart from his phone number or email address isn't really an option (sigh!), so I'd like to know which version of the Moto X was sold at Rogers here in Canada hoping that they didn't sell both.
And if both versions were sold, I might be able to make him fetch his current build number so, what is the latest build number for this phone?
Thanks a lot in advance!
P.S. : I also asked this question in the Moto X (2014) forums...
Rogers only sold the 2013 version.
Apparently not but I got the answer I was looking for... he owns a first gen phone.
Thanks!

I understood the 2014 Moto X was sold exclusively by Telus and Wind, but if you have evidence otherwise, please share.

Moto G 2015 (8GB)

Does anyone have this combo to confirm it works or doesn't with Android Auto?
I have the 8GB Moto G (2015) and an Android Auto headunit, which was working great with a Nexus 5 until that phone died. When I plug in the Moto G, I get a message saying that the device is not compatible. Having a hard time believing that since it is a new phone running Android 5.1.1 and is pretty close to stock Android.
I have heard that others have it working with a 16GB model but not this specific variant, which is the only one available for me in Canada.

This is now an officially acknowledged known issue for Android Auto that Google is working with Motorola on.

Is the Moto x4 sold by Best buy the Android one version?

Curious if only the project fi sold x4 is Android one. Saw Best buy has it for 249 and rather get it there to have it same day plus I'm not interested in project fi's service

The one sold in Best Buy is the retail non-Android One version. It is compatible with the Fi Network, however, and comes with some extra Motorola apps. It is the same hardware, and you are able to put the Android One software on the phone if desired.

Moto G6 verizon 9.0 pie update?

Just bought a used moto g6 Verizon from a friend, and I was wondering since other variants of the moto g6 received the OTA, when can we expect the moto g6 Verizon variant to get updated to 9.0 pie?

Lol, i checked that the first second I got the g6 man. This doesn't answer my question. Bump. Anyone else that can shed some light with details? I read in an article that in some areas update has been rolled out for US variants. What's up with verizon?
Edit: here is the article https://9to5google.com/2019/04/18/moto-g6-android-pie/
maybe it says moto g6 play, and the update was rolled out for the play variant, but this is absurd if they rolled out the 9.0 update for an inferior variant of the moto g6 family.. This is really annoying.

That is the official site of software updates by motorola, unless someone who is working in Verizon or Motorola can give you an answer I doubt anyone knows when will be released.
BTW, I'm on RETLA channel and this site says that the update has been released since May 21, but no sign of update on my phone and not even a zip on lolinet has been uploaded so I recommend you to be patient.
Update: Verizon rolled out the update yesterday, waiting on the OTA to arrive now.
