Setting sms timestamp? - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

I remember setting one of my phone's to show the sms timestamp as the time the sender sent the text instead of the time I received it. This is handy when you live on a poor coverage area so you can see the order texts were sent.
Does anyone know if this is possible with the stock rom?

Contact name in each text message?

New galaxy note owner here, I noticed while sending a text in the stock messaging app it has "Me:" on every message I send. It also has the contact's name to each incoming message. Is there any way to take this off?

I would take a look in the settings, its been awhile but I don't recall seeing an option to do so.

Can't change SMS delivery report tone

Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to change your delivery report tone when you send a SMS. At the moment the SMS delivery report tone is the same as an incoming SMS tone.
There was a similar issue with my HOX but there was a workaround which doesn't work on this phone.
Does anyone know how to change it?

Unfortunately I think you're SOL on that one, with the exception of turning that notification off. You could always use Chomp SMS or Handcent though..

[Q] merging multiple sms into 1 message for the recipient (at&t)

Hello there. At&t user here. I have been using at&t for a while and can't switch carriers, and was wondering if anyone could solve this dilemma for me.
I need long messages to get merged to one message for the recipient, which would probably best be suited by having them converted to mms.
I was wondering if the moto x has this feature, as it is the one phone I am looking at on at&t, or if anyone knows an app that can do this, and if I could install this on the moto x unrooted.
Handcent for example, merges them into one and converts to mms, but it needs the sms to be at least 3 sms's long before it does that, so that ones that are between 160-320 characters still get split. I know that gosms doesn't allow this either. This is work-related, so if anyone could help me I would be forever thankful.

I have a stock, unrooted moto x on verizon, but I imagine the settings in the stock messaging app would be the same. There is an option to use MMS for Group Messaging that states "Use MMS to send a single message when there are multiple recipients". Maybe just adding your own number along with the intended recipient's and sending the long message as a group message would be an easy fix? SImilar to copying yourself in on an email.
Edit: Just tested this idea and it works. I sent a long message to myself and another recipient and it automatically sent as a single MMS. Did not receive split messages on either phone, so this could be a workaround for you.

Official Hangout v2 Update

Finally got mine just a little bit ago, did a search on our in the General Sub-Forum for any threads on this so figured I would start it. Pretty stable so far for me.

This is the 3rd update since support for SMS and MMS. I have yet to be able to send or receive MMS on neither of my devices

haven't had any issues yet, slower than using stock app but still goes through for ME. Takes around 4-5 minutes to round trip send myself one and receive it.

Same here. It's pretty slow.
A good way to get any of the MMS to send almost as fast as it does in stock messaging app is to attempt to send the MMS and you can immediately make a call or AirPlane Mode or Mobile Data toggle it and then hang up or disable AirPlane Mode or Enable Mobile Data and it'll send much quicker. The phone call method only when on 3G though, not LTE
How is the interaction with google voice? I frequently dont receive messages using GV integrated on sprint.
Hangouts took control of the voicemail on my phone after I enabled SMS. Instead of getting a voicemail notification I received a text saying I had a message.

It's ok. Full integration won't be until May 2014 though.

Were you able to figure out how to disable that sms voicemail? I'd rather use the visual voicemail that came with HTC One.
No, I had to undo sms with hangouts.

I was having the same problem. Download System Panel lite from the play store. Open GV then press back. Open System Panel and tap on GV in the list then tap exclude. This will stop the service from being flushed.
The problems i have with MMS is that it has to be on 3G to send. Otherwise (if i am on 4G or Wifi) it wont send.
I currently have a mod to enable MMS on wifi with the stock app, that also takes the compression off.
Also. It wont send SMS when roaming. I need to be on sprint.
Do you guys expreience this too? Or is it just all the mods i have affecting my phone?
Not Sure But..
Theres an Stock Messaging app in the play store that does SMS over Wifi.
Its basically the CM messaging app with some extra goodies.
Its called 8SMS
id supply a link but XDA isnt letting me post a link since im new. Sigh
Hangouts is terrible with mms/ group messaging

Verizon group sms

Anyone else having issues with group SMS from my verizon phone going out as multiple individual texts despite the check box under group texts checked in settings?
Temporarily switched to textra- bit ugly compared to stock. I thought this was just an att issue

If the other phone isn't capable or options disabled, be it SMS or mms, it does this.
Ahhh. But it works on their phone when I send via textra

At the top of the default app, make sure group conversation is selected and not individual text messages.
