Samsung Galaxy Note 5 rebooting and/or powering off - Device Repair

Hi folks,
Just new to the forum after it was recommended by a phone repair store here in the UK.
Hopefully someone can help, I'm a complete newbie to working on phones so please bare with me and I apologise if this has been covered. I have checked online and carried out a few possible fixes without joy.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920C.
It is rebooting/restarting randomly and sometimes completely switches itself off and doesn't turn back on unless I hold volume and power.
I have tried clearing cache on the Google services application, also in bootmode I have cleared the cache. I have tried a master reset amongst other things and nothing seems to cure the problem.
I thought it was maybe an issue with the battery or motherboard or if a new ROM should fix the issue.
Would you have any guidance for possible causes/fixes or if I can try any other methods to find the cause.
Finally can I add when I carried out a master reset the phone didn't appear to have the problems until I started updating all the apps, but can't pin it down to which. It could be the play services update as it's the first to update.
Many thanks
Chris

I would recommend a battery replacement.

Are you on Stock Rom?
Anyway, at all, to Back Up and either Manual or Over Kies, you'll find Instructions for general Samsung Devices anyway, could help by restoring the OS.
You can also try to Revert it Back to Factory Settings.
Does it happen at a Certain Point of Discharging?
Have you tried to Charge it for 24H?
The above Point of Changing Battery is a Point.
I don't guess it'll light up in Flames like some other devices anyway...

[Q] Wifi stuck "Turning on"

Tried searching around and have seen others with this issue but nothing has worked. Tried a clean flash of a rom and during the setup wizard its still broken.
I have pretty much done everything but done a clean flash of stock and i am gearing up to do that but i dont have high hopes.
are you using a custom kernel?

Nope...
its not that i just cant connect, its like the hardware is broken.
and just did a complete factory image flash.
still broken
I had this happen to my N6 last week. It started after running the battery completely flat so the green LED lit when I charged it. The fix having repeatedly wiping seemed to be draining battery completely again until the green LED lit when I charged it. It has worked fine ever since.

First contacted square trade as that is my insurance, they said contact Moto because it is still under warranty. Did that, Moto said they would replace it. I said i don't want to go without a phone and they said they can charge me 25 and put a 500 hold on my account but they would send the phone first. Said OK phone arrives on Tuesday.
Just as an FYI they did basically say did you factory reset it.... but that is all the trouble shooting.
If anyone is interested in my symptom. Wifi is just always stuck at "turning on" every once in a while it will be off. but when you try to turn it on it just gets stuck again.
When it is stuck you can not turn it off.

Might be worth an RMA. see my previous post.
Don't know if I'm a little too late to this post... .But it happened to my Nexus 6 too, tried everything, wipe cache, factory reset, root, delete /persist/wifi but nothing worked....
However, luck seems to be on my side when I went into Google Connectivity Services under Setting--> Apps... and wipe its cache and tried to disable it (but stopped before I did). Then reboot the phone once i wiped all the data from the Google Connectivity Services Apps and VIOLA! It's working now!
*EDIT... It worked for about an hour (allowing me to dl all the apps) but now it has failed again....
I have the same issue as soon and I unlock the bootloader
any ideas? Im going to root again the device and load a different to see if it makes any difference
I am experiencing this as well. Was working fine yesterday and when I tried to go to Android M Preview 3 this happened. Whats worse is that this is happening right after I switched from Unlimited Data on TMo to Project Fi with 3GB. Making this even more frustrating is that Project Fi support says the preview images are now compatible with Project Fi. Isn't that something they should be telling people up front?!
I'm having the same issue on marshmalow, it suddenly started to happen some weeks ago.
First times was solved with phone reboot.
Then was required to clean cache before restart
Now I've tried reclutance suggestion (delete data from google connectivity services and reboot but the problem persist?
I'm using 6.0.1 stock rom without root
I don't want to perform a factory reset
Any suggestion?
here too...close the wifi
All tried doesn't work,
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache (via fastboot as I do not have a custom recovery neither unlocked the boot or root, my phone is completely original)
Also tried to delete wifi data
Any suggestion?
RMA
I'm continuing to have issues with my Motorola Nexus 6 phone.
It is running stock android 6.0.1
I never unlocked it or rooted (Sadly cause If i do so I were able to backup my apps and settings with titanium backup and restore it before a full device reset )
The problem started some weeks ago.
First symptom was that i was unable to enter on Settings -> Data usage (Every time receives an "unfortunately, settings has stopped" message)
Then some days have difficult to connect to wifi or disconnect (at that moment I didn't investigate the issue, just retry considering the issue was on router side)
After some time I realize that the problem was on the phone, specially cause it started to stuck turning on wifi, but for some days just turning off phone and turning it on again solves the issue.
With the time it becomes more and more frequent and turning it off and on didn't solve anything so I've reboot into recovery mode and perform a clear cache but it doesn't solve the issue.
Looking here and at other forums found that this issue is really common and some people solves it trough ADB with "adb shell pm clear com.android.settings" I've tried it but it didn't solve anything.
Even when many people didn't solve it with a factory reset I want to try it, but I need to be able to backup one app data (If could backup everything will be the best but at least need to backup blockchain app (Also have an issue with them as provider and couldn't log in from another device or website, just this device has a session already approved and open)
Any suggestion?
I've upgraded/downloaded to almost any possible rom and the problem is still here
Looking on forums found that is a very common issue since marshmallow in many devices (Specially Nexus)
Most people couldn't fix it but some could.
the problem is with devices macaddress that shown 02:00:00:00:00:00 and get stuck turning on
there are solutions in forums that seems to be a little bizarre like drain battery to 0 and full recharge (This one works for me once)
,others like deleting Google connectivity services cache, or deleting /persist/wifi folder completely
But I found one for nexus 5 who replaces the full /persist partition with a dump and edit the files and permissions with macaddress information.
This seems to have logic and provides an explanation about why the problem persist after, factory reset or rom changing so I want to try it in nexus 6.
Could someone provide me a dump of it?
There is an app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...nam.partitions, that makes the process of making a partition backup easy. The persist partition is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p26
Thanks in advance
Did you solve your problem? Because I have the same. Did you try to change Mac address on device?

G890A freezing during installs/updates and bootup after - narrowing the problem

Currently have a G890A, AT&T, Android 6.0.1, Baseband: G890AUCS5CPK4
I've spent days of time trying to understand and fix repeated freezes/crashes, and am curious if you think my understanding of the problem is likely accurate and if the next steps make sense. Below are current issues, my previous solution attempts, best guess at the problem, and next steps to solve it. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Issues:
- Starting at the Android 6.0 update, the phone began freezing intermittently when installing/updating certain apps.
- Freezing was unaffected by subsequent firmware updates
- Freezes happened before I could see which apps were starting to auto-update.
- During a freeze, the phone gets warm and drains the battery quickly. Power+down will reboot the phone, then it usually freezes again.
- After the first freeze, freezes and crashes would then continue on bootup, sometimes over 20+ reboots, usually while drawing "SAMSUNG" letters or soon thereafter
- Eventually whatever was installing/updating/uninstalling seems to take, and the phone finally stops rebooting.
- Disabling auto-updates prevents freezing
- After a factory reset it takes hours of rebooting, getting lucky enough to see the home screen, and for luck to hold long enough to open the play store before a freeze happens
- Freezing does not happen when updating every app. Installing/updating Google Inbox and Khan Academy both caused 20+ reboots/hangs. Trying to uninstall Khan Academy produced another 20+ until the uninstall finally seemed to take. I haven't tried to uninstall or update Inbox.
Current efforts to fix the problem:
- Safe mode: no improvement
- 3 factory resets: no improvement
- 3 factory resets + safe mode: no improvement
- Disabling auto-updates: effective, as long as I never install or update apps
- calling ATT: They said go to a Samsung rep at Best Buy
- talking with Best Buy Samsung rep (closest is an hour drive away): Best Buy says they can re-flash G890AUCS5CPK4, but my concern is that whatever got corrupted in an earlier update won't be fixed by re-flashing that version.
- calling Samsung: Samsung says they'd be happy to look at it if I send it to them a couple weeks. They also state that they'll send it back untouched if I try flashing it myself.
Best Guess About the Problem
Something got corrupted in Play Services during the 6.0 update; something that runs early in bootup and continues any in-progress installation/update processes.
Next Steps
- Determine on this thread whether it makes sense to reflash G890AUCS5CPK4 at Best Buy
- If so, take the phone to Best Buy for a reflash. If not, find a backup phone for a couple weeks and send the GS6 to Samsung
- Prefer not to try flashing it myself since I have no experience and don't want to brick it or remove the chance for Samsung to fix it as a backup plan.
Do the best guess and next steps make sense? I really like the s6 active. I've had it just over a year and want to keep it for a while. It's gone rafting, kayaking and hiking in all kinds of weather, and operated flawlessly in and out of water the entire time. Fantastic phone until this issue.
Thanks again!
Adam
How are you installing your apps? One by one from the play store, all at the same time from the play store, or by some other method (from an archive of some kind), which might be corrupt.

@anneoneamouse, Great question. Thanks for asking. I did a few of them via Samsung's Smart Switch, then uninstalled most of those. I didn't think about the APK's stored by Smart Switch being corrupted somehow. Trying reinstalls from the Play Store now.
And... it's been about 3 hours. A number of previously failing apps worked when installed from the Play Store. I was excited. Then I uninstalled Google Inbox and reinstalled it from the Play store, and the phone froze. Multiple reboots never got it past the loading screen after that. Eventually I did a factory reset. The phone still froze with only factory apps. No non-factory apps installed from any source. Four more factory resets later, no progress. It's probably time to send this critter to Samsung.
Have you tried booting into the recovery menu, and clearing all the cache areas? I'm not sure that a factory reset is equivalent to a complete wipe.
How are you uninstalling Google inbox?

Sorry for the slow reply. Just saw this. I did cache wipes followed by resets, which also log to the screen that they're doing a cache wipe. Uninstalling/reinstalling inbox stopped being an issue because I could never get far enough to install Inbox again from any source. As soon as I logged in with a google account during setup, the factory apps started updating and the hanging/crashing began. Sent it to Samsung.
Appreciate your help!

Galaxy Note 9 Bugs and Errors

Hello there! This is my first time in this forum so I apologize if this is not the right place to post this.
So, I need help with my Note 9
SM-N9600
One UI 2.5
Snapdragon I think
For a year or so now I've been having trouble with:
- Losing volume in my earbuds
- Experiencing lag in downloaded videos in Nike Training Club and Samsung Health apps
- And most recently the Google Play Store and LBRY have crashed a lot
It all first started after installing tutuapp. at first it was all normal but after a few months I first noticed my buds coming low in volume. Of course I visited every possible thread and blog and advice on the subject but nothing would work so eventually I went to a Samsung store and they offered to reinstall the firmware so I did.
It solved everything! until dummy me I reinstalled the app. It took a couple of months to realize that tutuapp was the source of all my troubles and when that happened I never installed it again, but... I now installed an APK and it happened again. It's worth mentioning that at the time I would only notice the low volume because I didn't use the exercise apps.
Anyhow, reinstalling firmware fixed it again and again (It took me a bit realizing that the APK was the source of trouble) until it didn't and now no matter how many times I reinstall it, my right bud is lower on volume and my left bud just sounds weird. Once I did a reset on the cache memory and it actually fixed the buds volume quality perfectly, although just for about a day and then back to broken.
So far it is clear to me that Samsung has no clue as to how to fix this issue nor care to fix it really, they find any little excuse to make their job easier instead of fixing stuff in my experience. Anyway, It's been so long and I'm a bit desperate to know exactly what the problem is, let alone fix it so I appreciate any help fixing this.
Please and thank you
Factory reset and try .
Flash stock firmware via odin and try .
Fails then its probably hardware .
But as you are clear its an app you install thats the problem not Samsung firmware .

Hi! Thanks for your response.
I have done this reset reinstall countless of times so I have discard it as a solution, I actually reinstalled the firmware a couple days ago and no improvement.
The hardware thought also crossed my mind but how would that be possible? The phone doesn't even have a scratch... literally lol.
I agree it must be an app or some file or something. And I would like some help figuring out which one it is exactly.
Thanks!

New here and with a weird problem...

Hi all !
I'm a retired recording engineer from eastern Québec, Canada, enjoying retirement and keeping busy buildingand fixing audio equipment and restoring vintage British motorcycles.
I'm having a very strange problem with my Moto G5 (not Plus) that started out of the bue earlier this week. When the phone is locked, be it after locking it manually or after exceeding the preset time, and I receive a call, I do not get the phone logo on the screen anymore. If I want to take the call, the screen remains dark and I can't simply swipe it. I need to press the "start-stop" button, then a white box appears telling me who is calling and the padlock appears at the bottom of the screen. Then I have to trace the security pattern and the phone app appears, but on the in-out call screen instead of showing the button that would allow me to take the call. Instead I have to swipe down in order to get the box that allows me to take the call or reject it. I did countless Google searches and went through all the settings but I couldn't find any mention of that problem. The weird thing is that the phone was working perfectly one night, and then the following morning I had that problem. Can anyone help ?
Welcome to XDA
Was the phone updated overnight?
Clear the system cache if possible on this model.
Try in safe mode to help rule out 3rd party app interference.
It could possibly be a virus, rootkit or the hidden users settings have been corrupted.
The rom itself may have been corrupted, not necessarily anything nefarious... maybe just a high energy particle that flipped a flash memory cell read state. Atomic particles playing god, I hate that
Worse case solutions, factory reset, if that doesn't work reflash last known good firmware.
If all that fails it's likely a hardware failure but this is probably the least likely cause.
Hi !
Thanks for your reply. As far as I can tell there is no recent update. I tried everything you suggested except the factory reset because I dread reinstalling all the apps, but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet. Hoping it's not one of those pretentious atomic particles... ;-)

Try disabling the lock screen etc. Go back to where it needed no password to use.
That's the first thing I tried, no luck... :-(

I'm not familiar with that phone.
In general, try clearing the system cache.
I don't like messing with the phone app data but... first backup your contacts then start clearing data in the associated phone apps.
If a hidden user setting has been toggled it may be very hard to find/correct unless you know how. A factory reset would do so.
If that fails the firmware has become corrupted and needs to be reflashed.
If all that fails it's likely a hardware failure, either the mobo or possibly the C port PCB.
A C port pcb failure can do strange things on a Samsung like loss of internet/phone connection. I bring up the C port pcb because they get a lot of wear and tear... and they're a lot cheaper than a mobo.

Pixel 4a5G keeps restarting

Hi. So, I wake up in the morning to find that my phone was in recovery mode saying something along the lines of:
"Your device may be corrupt. If you keep facing this issue, you may need to factory reset your phone."
I restarted my phone only for it to restart (automatically) within a few seconds. This happened about 5 times. Then, finally, I decided to do a factory reset. After performing a hard reset, my device started working fine but only for a few minutes. I was setting up my applications and adding my Google accounts to the device when the phone restarted, again. I started looking around on XDA and other forums for anyone else facing the same problem. I went to Google Issue Tracker where I saw the same issue opened for today; however, that was on a Pixel 6. I tried sideloading an OTA image (from Google's website) and that was successful but I still kept facing the same problem. I performed a hard reset again and didn't download any applications and didn't do any additional settings. The phone worked fine for around 4-5 hours, so I decided to set it up with my applications and settings. As soon as I did that, my phone started restarting again.
Please help!
Details:
Device: Google Pixel 4a (5G)
Software: Android 13 (April 2023 Update)
Thanks in advance!

Are you Pakistani? If so, do you have any banking applications or any Pakistani app installed for that matter? Try hard resetting your phone and install each application you want one by one. You'll know when the problematic application is installed so you can uninstall it to get rid of your issue. It was a banking application for me :/
