apple earpods isn't working - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Apple earpods mic is not wokring on my oneplus 3t...the problem is with the mic. They don't work on calls, where as they are working fine with other devices...im on oreo beta 17...Are there any fixes available? Please let me know...thanks in advance!!!
Edit: a trick worked...move to second page and see the trick explained by @Shashank.446

A good indicator is the fact they are specifically designed for apple iPhones. Those earphones are unique to a phone a person purchased. They aren't plug and play type accessories. You might get them to work as headphones, but if you seriously brought yourself a set of $100+ apple iphone earbuds thinking they'd work 100%. I hope you kept a receipt.

Also building on what he said, you're on the Open Beta 17, which will give issues.
Why in the name of all that is good and holy, would you buy the Airpods, when many reviewers say that it's audio is meh.
There are way more better sounding Bluetooth earphones for less.

Guys, he didn't post "Airpods" (the Bluetooth ones), he posted "earpods" which are the regular wired headphones. I assume the OP has this from a former iPhone. I would expect in that case the buttons don't work properly, but the mic should work. At least that is what typically happens in the case of earpods + Android device. So the OP's question is a valid one.

There's no flashable zip for this kind of purpose, since the system compatibility is required to be changed from AOSP sources. It's just incompatibility between Android and an Apple accessory.

Yep I have the same issue... On nougat the mic and button worked perfectly fine but on Oreo stable now the mic seems to just create a static noise and the button keeps toggling the input as headset and headphones (the icon in the status bar keeps switching back and forth)

same problem

I am having same problem. Upgraded to Oreo yesterday and noticed that my iPhone Earpods aren't working and producing only static noise. Have a Sony wired headset which is working perfectly fine. As I read above posts, looks to be not just with OP 3T, it is Google Oreo as such, which is really bad and annoying. iPhone headphones have noise cancellation microphone feature which is not announced upfront. It helps a lot in taking important calls without surrounding noise. When someone produces a good product, should ensure compatibility and not go against it. Note, it was working till Nougat and not working only on Oreo. Very annoying. Google you are getting bad in terms of attitude, if the message about removal of support from Oreo, is right

Found a work around
My apple earpods dint work too after the Oreo update on my Oneplus 3T (Mic and play/pause controls not working). While i was going through this thread, i was trying to understand what might be causing this behavior. Surprisingly found a work around for this problem.
You need to insert the earpods 3.5mm plug into the mobile headphone jack to a level (except one last click) and hold it there for a second or two, where you can notice the 'headphone with mic' icon pops up on the status bar. Give it a second again and push that one last click in. The headphone, mic and controls, all of them worked as expected, everytime I did this procedure. I've tested it tens of times before posting it here. This trick might work with android Oreo phones other than Oneplus 3T too but i have not checked. Plz do post it here if somebody gets to find out if this trick works for other phones as well.

I've found this too - and it's really annoying.
I use Apple Earpods with various phones (mainly for telephone calls) and to have them suddenly stop working is frustrating.

Lots of other, non-Apple devices have worked OK with them.
As has my 3T until recently.
PS: The fix (above) where you push them part way in, pause, then push them fully in works for me too

Pretty sure he was asking whether it's Oreo overall (changes made by Google - regardless of the specific device) that broke the Earpod functionality; or something specifically done by OnePlus in the Oreo update.

[Q] low speaker volume - check a possible cause

Hi All,
I have Samsung Note for a few months an I'm having real problem with the low speaker volume, I tested various solutions but nothing helped.
I want to check if this model has a manufacturing hardware problem. What I'm asking you is to make a small test,
about a minute, on a problem I lately noticed in my phone that the "right speaker" isn't working.
I listened to "happiness is a warm gun", this song is comprised of 4 parts and in the last part I couldn't hear
John Lennon singing but I could hear the other group members making background sounds.
Then it occurred to me that the song was recorded in two channels, John Lennon in one and the others in the second.
I then checked my speaker with the "Stereo Audio Test (Left, Right)" I found on YouTube.
It proved to me that I could here only the left speaker, the right one didn't make any sound.
Since I read so many Samsung Note owners complain about the weak speaker volume, I request you to
check if this happens also on your phone. I want to check if this only happens on my phone or if it's a global
issue and perhaps that is the reason for the low volume problem.
I cannot post outside links yet because I'm a new user, so I ask you to search for the
"Stereo Audio Test (Left, Right)" on YouTube and try your phones.
Please state your model and OS, mine is GT-N7000 and the OS is Android 4.0. I think it is a European version.
Two notes:
1. I tested those audios on Samsung S and they sound fine.
2. My phone is still under warranty, I will eventually give it for repair but I first want to know
if this problem happen to others as well.

hi, I just came back from the store, I gave it for service so I haven't checked the headphones.
The guy at the store first tried to convince me that this is normal and this phone doesn't have
left and right speakers, only single one. I had to show him this audio test on another Samsung device
in order for him to accept it as fault. It's good I had some of you guys to do this test for me so I could be sure
when I was talking to him.
ya.. we seem to know more than them
hi,
I found out what the problems was, it is related to power saving mode.
When the battery goes beyond 30% than only a single speaker is heard.
Samsung confirmed it and said they should fix it in a future version.
If you are below 30% (or whatever value in your settings) but charging
than you will hear both speakers.
Just to let you know guys.

Weird Problem, Audio related

I got these ibeats earphones, worked fine on my sony Z until today.
I thought it might be the earphones but these work fine when connected to other devices(different phones, laptop etc)
So I thought it might be the Sony Z
The free earphones that come with the phone work fine, infact I have tried multiple different brands of earphones just to make sure and they work fine
But
As soon as I connect my Sony Z up with my ibeats no music comes out of them, infact it comes out the phone speaker.
Never rooted or flashed my phone, all standard
Only thing recently changed is that my Z got the 4.2.2 update last night, they been working fine since April so i don't understand. Since I got the update I listened to some music on my way to work, no problems, on my way back home that's when the the fatal weirdo problem occurred. I would appreciate any help or suggestions to amend this?

I don't those apps, What are they for? tried xperia diagnostics and got the earphone to work but only one side was playing so i suspect, its fault or cable issue, which is the reason why this happened, taken back the beats for cash back, using the sony ones for the time being. I only use walkman app, player settings don't have much except to change the equalizer. Asked one the gurus at the store I got and he advised that alot of people with sony phones sometimes have this happen with perfectly works ear/ headphones. very usual.
Sometimes new updates just makes it incompatible with some headphones. Like beats headphones from dr dre. It doesn't seem to work for some Xperias or all Xperias.
There was a thread somewhere, forgot where but there's another way around it if you search it up. Try googling it or sth.
otherwise downgrade it to use those headphones or stick with Sony headphones.
You can try repairing it with pcc or sus, or flash another ftf file.

If you are using SmartKey, disable it. Connect your earphones, play music, disconnect & reconnect the earphones.
This worked for a few people, hope it works for you too.
Interesting, some Apple earpods are also causing trouble since updating with the 4.2.2, i have a Bose AE2 but haven't tested yet (i'm at work) i have a bad feeling about this and i hope my Bose still works. Many people seems having troubles with their earpods/headphone.

What does smartkey do? got my new earphones coming through, I hope with the new set I wont experience any problems. Sony work well but volume sucks on them, is there an easy way to increase the volume on this device? Safety crap annoys me, back in the day walkmans were crazy loud. What ever happened to giving the consumer a choice.

Some great tutorials in the development section for when you're ready. If you're investing money in decent earphones then the improved sound mods will certainly benefit you.
Xperia Z
Its because your beats uses a inbuilt microphone... my Apple earpods also has inbuilt microphones and the Xperia Onyl recognizes Headphones without mics
got the same problem but i must click like 5 times on the headset (play button/answer button for calls) to make it work so the music goes trough the earbuds
try some headphones without micrphones built-in and see what happens then!

SmartKey lets you configure the button on the earphones.
You can set it to perform a different action when you press the button multiple times.
For example, you can set it up such that if you press the button twice when music is playing, it skips to the next track.
You can't change the actions, but it is a bit useful.
As for the volume, take a look here & here.

Headset mic way too sensitive

Hi All,
Got the Z1 last week about 9 dates ago as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy S3. Generally liking it, though struggling to get used to the size of the handset. One major issue, though that I can't easily sort or find an answer to anywhere.
Basically, when I use a wired headset with inline mic for phone calls, the microphone is way too sensitive. It picks up every movement of the headphone cord, every rustle on my clothes, etc. Tried about 5 different headsets, including a dedicated Android one button Sennheiser headset. All the same. None of these proved a problem with
Anyone any ideas on what's causing it or how to fix it? Is there something simple I'm missing? It's making calls a painful experience.
Thanks in anticipation.

Tried that. No change. S3 better than this? In this respect only. V pleased to see the back of the S3, as it constantly had firmware issues, caused, no doubt. Random battery life issues (sometimes lasting a day, sometimes a few hours), crashes, screen redraw issues, glitchy music playback. I could go on.

I think with Root you can get work anything even the sensitivity of your microphone. It can be easy like edit build.prop that something more but I am sure the sensitivity can be managed. If I find something I will post.

Increase Speaker/Headphone Volume

It's a pretty common fact now that compared to most other smart phones, the Droid Turbo volume just does not get very loud, in fact it's rather quiet. I'm not looking to blow out my ears, but I'd like to be able to comfortably hear who I'm speaking with on the phone (w/o distortion), and having sufficient (it's at least a few notches lower than my previous iphone 5s) volume through the headphones is absolutely essential for me as the music player is the most important part of the phone for me, aside from call/text. How do I increase the volume? I believe it can be found in the build script, but it seems a little more in-depth than other phones. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

My wife called me the other day. She was so loud that I was able to put it on my lap and both me and my daughter could hear her. I didn't even have to use the speaker phone.
Anyone else?
When there is any sort of natural noise from outside or out in the public, it is noticeably quieter than any smartphone I've had, other than the 2013 moto x, so it seems to be a modern Motorola thing. I know this is an easy fix for someone who is informed. Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Nobody has an answer because there is no fix. Root is needed to modify volumes past stock.
Turn off audio effects for headphone. Place speaker grille (not glass) at the middle of your ear when talking. Use custom ringtones for increased volume if the stock ones aren't loud enough.
I personally find it all to be plenty loud.

Could it be the call privacy settings?
Phone -> Settings -> Voice Privacy (mine is set to off)
Settings -> Sound -> Audio Effects (should be off)
I personally think that the phone is too quiet as well.. Definitely doesn't pass the shower test. I should be able to hear my phone playing music over the sound of the shower and the bathroom fan at the same time - I can't.
I went through multiple replacements for this issue. Evidently, the new unit I received (assembled 12/15/14) does not exhibit a volume problem. I think there is an issue with many of the units out in the wild, but it is unclear if there will be/can be a software fix without root. For those with defective devices, no amount of settings changes to the stock software seem to work. I would contact Verizon wile you have the opportunity to do so. Keep in mind, however, that you are opening a can of worms. It might take a few replacements to get one with better volume.

I really noticed the low volume of this phone and I made a patch to make it higher, it only works for Moto maxx at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it can be achieved in droid turbo via android sdk adb commands I need to keep reading about it.

I really noticed the low volume of this phone and I made a patch to make it higher, it only works for Moto maxx at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it can be achieved in droid turbo via android sdk adb commands I need to keep reading about it.

Negatory. that is a proprietary setup and adb, well it isn't.

When I activated HD calling it seemed to increase the call volume. Grasping at straws.

I enabled HD calling for a day, but nobody I know has that feature, so it's useless to me atm. It made regular calls sound fuzzy n tinny...thanks for the suggestion tho

[SoundFx] ExtremeBeats + Viper4Android

Hello Everyone,
I would like to share with you'll a Sound Mod that will bring a Magical music listening experience on CyanogenMod12.1/AOSP Roms. This Mod will effect the entire audio system of the phone (Calls, Music, Videos, External speakers). This Mod has been my daily drive since last 2years and glad it does well for Moto G3 too.
This thread is just a consolidation of procedure suited well for Moto G3 . All credits to the developers linked in original thread. Tested working fine on CM12.1 nightly dated 20151030 and Motorola's Stock ROM.
So here you go, "ExtremeBeats SoundFx with Viper plugin".
Requirments: ExtremeBeats, Viper4Android, SElinuxChanger, TWRP/CWM Recovery.
Precautions: Disable any other Mod or Audiofx you been using before you proceed. Else things may conflict and not work as intended.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any Soft/Hard Brick. Though this has been tested working fine by me, failing to comply with the procedure might result in mess. Try at your own risk.
Original Thread: ExtremeBeats , Viper4Android and SelinuxChanger
Steps:
Download "ExtremeBeats v4.0 Muses.zip" (Recommended Version) from Original thread and flash it via recovery.
Download "SElinux Changer". Open it and change SeLinux mode to permissive.
Download and install "Viper4Android" (version 2.3.3.0 recommended). Open it and install drivers. Make a Normal Reboot (No quick reboot).
Download Equalizer profiles attached in the attachment. Unzip the contents to Internal Storage. (These are Viper EQ profiles customized by me).
Load Effect profile of your choice (Vj Multiplex recommended). Enjoy Magical Music experience. Cheers..!
UPDATE : For Marshmallow, the viper profile path is different from lollipop. Follow the new path

Yes it will work on other ROMs based on CyanogenMod.
Extreme Beats is not an app. Its a set of audio libraries that control the sound system of the phone. This gets flashed onto your system. Viper is an equaliser app that goes best to enhance the power of extreme beats. So only viper will be visible in app drawer.
its working & what is the best IRS for your EQ Profile?
the sound on my sony headphones is to low with viper i dont know why. I use dolby atmos and dolby for a good high volume

Give ExtremeBeats a try. Also verify your viper driver status to be yes.

IRS is set in my eq profile. Just load the downloaded profile. And DDC I haven't set bcz sound effect varies across different earphone makers. I use SoundMagic ES18 earphones. Going good. But the earphones that come with Yu Yureka cyanogen phone are superior and mind blowing. Give it a try if you get it.

is all good says suported and yes and i tried with extremebeats extreammusic to and nothing the sound is low when start to processing the bass is just put down all volume and i tried my headphones on an ipod and pc and a samsung and the sound is loud (more onde ipod and the pc) but when i use the dolby the sound y loud and clear but i like the option that viper give to work the audio.
Then I guess those earphones are not compatible with moto g3.
I have noticed this case. Certain earphones don't commonly suit all and instead suit only specific phones. Particularly the Samsung earphones I faced having compatibility issues.

And what earphones, in ear, or headphones do you recomend for me? im from argentina and have to be some common brand like sony, sneheiser, phillips, panasonic, or something like that
I'd say. Don't go for phone maker earphones. Because most the cases they don't go compatible across other phones.
Instead look for music edition earphones like Senheiser, SoundMagic.
I am using SoundMagic ES18. It's going very good. But the earphones from Cyanogen phone maker Yureka was excellent. Had a real feeling of sitting in a multiplex using those. Unfortunately those earphones are not available as external accessories instead are made available only with the phone.
In the end, I'd say try before buy
Its working in MX player but sometime it goes turnoff automatically and driver status processing is no... How to enable ?

Ok, I can't read any more of this.....you are obviously making things up here. There is no such thing as 'incompatible headphones'....EVER. Not with this phone, not any phone, and not a single audio device which uses a 3.5mm jack. IT DOES NOT EXIST!!!! There may be issues with ones which use 2 contacts rather than 3 on the plug, but this is far from a total incompatibility. They will still work.
Please stop spreading misinformation. It's not helping anyone.

When you haven't encountered an issue doesn't mean there isn't a issue. I have tried Samsung earphones and they don't give best sound like they give with their own phones. Also iPod earphones don't go compatible , you will find drop in audio. By saying incompatible I mean they don't deliver 100% output and not that they don't totally work.
The connector etc is visually compatible. But logically not compatible.
Next time, before passing harsh comments get and anylse things first. Just because you got a tongue to blab don't do it here. At least not on the thread I run.
Give respect , take respect and be kind in your words rather being poky.

I've used apple earbuds and I've never experienced audio drop. Perhaps it's an issue with your mod then? It's definitely not an incompatibility with the hardware or the factory firmware.

Be happy with your conclusion. I am not interested in arguing. What I experienced I have shared the guy. In end I suggest the guy to try before buy.
I won't say all apple/samsung earphones would be incompatible. Because i am not that rich to get earphones of all apple models. I had an opportunity to try few earphones of different phones outta which I found some earphones go low but best with their own phones.
And if mod is the defect then I got the moto earphones too. There is no drop.
Thanks for the scene...!

It will work. But sound effect feels slightly light than older version. So I recommend 4.0. You may try. It's all your own taste

There are clearly 2 differing opinions here. Whether either is right or not is unlikely to be determined here. What is of a concern is the fact that this is becoming an argument being played out in public.
So, let's get back on topic, constructively and cordially. It would be a shame to kill this thread off for all the wrong reasons.
Thanks
can i flash it to stock rom?
