Inexperienced user needs help choosing ROM - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all
I want to resurrect my sisters old HTC one M7 until my contract ends and i buy a new phone next year. I have installed customs ROMS only a few times before including changes to the KERNEL.
What i would like to achieve is: this ( ordered by importance:
-stable system
- camera still working
- root so i can install add blocker
- up to data android as far as possible, system should be as lean as possilbe
- good battery live
I tried to read thru the veriouis threads but frankly... this confused me more!
I would be very glad if you could point me towards a rom that fits my needs!

I recommend you AICP rom for customisation, but if you want something stock-like I recommend you Slim rom. Both of the ROM is stable and ready for everyday use.

I've been messing around with Roms for my M7 for weeks...
I have finally decided on The Maximus HD Eye....
It's stable, quick, unbuggy and has a good battery life.
It's lollipop, Sense 6/7
I thought the rom was better than the M9 Port.
Try it, it won't disappoint.

Thanks for the reply! IS there any quick nougat rom available ? Is there also a Kernel available that lets me overclock the device slightly? Is super user always included?

A quick nougat rom would be slim7 or maybe xenonHD. Kernel with overclocking is only available for android 4 and 5 with stock or gpe rom. With N and M Roms overclocking allways made the system unstable. Root is mostly not included and you need to flash supersu or magisk or lineage suaddon

Kernel wise I would recommend Elemental X, with the EX Kernel Manager you can tweak it all day long....
If you don't like that you can install Xtended Settings from Google Play (you should do this anyway as its awesome!) And this will allow millions of tweaks!! OK an awful lot of tweaks and a good few for the Kernel....
Hit the thumbs up mate!!! I'm trying to get to 100 thanks!!

I honestly don't know!! Just stick you Slim Rom in and see!!
The Xtended Settings tweaks Stock based Roms....I think your Slim is Google based (but I'm just guessing)
And I think you can have any kernel can't you?
So install Slim and then install EX Kernel Manager open it and click on Elemental X on left hand drop-down.....I think it will tell you which kernel you can install.
I AM NOT SURE THOUGH!!!!
So do it right at the start of your install so you can reinstall if I'm wrong!!!!! Oh and hit thumbs up again please!!! Lol

EX Kernel manager will install it all for you automatically (if it works!) So there is no need for a tutorial

Oh and whatever you do install Dolby Atmos its excellent Google "XDA HTC M7 Dolby Atmos"

Depends on what you need, if you only want pure root supersu and lineage suaddon are good. If you want to play with and moddify the system more you should use magisk. For kernels, there is only one kernel for N Roms that supports wake gestures and some other goodies if you want that you need to download and flash the kernel after flashing the rom.
So order for flashing would be 1. Rom 2.Kernel (if you want to) 3. root 4.gapps (if you want to)

Ok thank you!
would it be to much to ask you for a link to exactly all the files in need to flash an a European/German HTC one m7?
(1. Rom 2.Kernel (if you want to) 3. root 4.gapps )
I guess rooting is just another option in the rom or do i need a special file for it?
I guess it is pretty clear for sombedoy with experience, but i am a litle lost....

You are ok, it's all a bit daunting at first....
So you need a PC and Android SDK installed!!!
First you need to DEVUnlock your M7. (Unlock Bootloader)
Then SOff (if you want)
Then Root
Then Super CID (If you want)
Then install recovery (TWRP)
Then install newest Firmware (if you want)
Then a Faux Locked/Red text removed HBoot (if you want
Then install ROM!!!
Yep it's a lot to do....
The easiest thing is to follow this tutorial.....
Unlock Bootloader

Root

Don't forget to hit thanks!!!!

These stock roms are for users wanting to go backwards. Not for newbies.
Please New users to root or Flashing, if you want root on a stock rom FLASH ROOT.ZIP! do not flash this rom
As people have asked many a time for stock then here you go.
This will give you stock & root. this is mainly for the people that wish to revert back without having to try and reinstall the RUU again.
.DO the triple wipe prior to flashing this as normal people.
Stock as it comes.
Theme
Apps
Etc
Other versions coming, check back regular.
Mediafire links underneath each version for download

there is no point in having screenshots because you all remember what stock looks like.
these are odex versions, allowing full space given from when you got it new. i give it this way as it lets you do what you want.
The root versions are capable of being used with either scripts listed below.
d2sd
data2sd-ext
data2ext3.
You need to flash this like any other ROM given. Do the triple wipe, if you prefer like me do it twice IE data/cache/dalvik/data/cache/dalvik) This will 99.9% clear any errors when you boot it up. Skipping these or not following correct procedure will in fact fudge it up when it boots up.
If you are using any other the given data2sd, then allow a full first boot inc setup etc the reboot to flash the script.
I have tried this ROM myself and i am happy with the turn out, although i don't like stock anyway lol
Newbies. DO NOT USE LINK2SD IF YOUE WANT INCREASED INTERNAL MEMORY
Disclaimer
I am not responsible for your **** ups.
Use this at your own risk at all times.
Failure to comply with thread rules will result in no help being given when asked.

I am open to do other region roms but please note they are not same day creation.
upto 72hrs for creation and uploading required.
If you want one, i require the exact RUU your phone came with or your region so i can proceed.
At this point donations are welcome for my time

yeah this has init.d tweaks there making it faster, busybox preinstalled and the root in this is far more advanced than the superuser given in root.zip

the idea vigoo is to give the users what they want not send them else where for another custom rom. fshamis roms are good but again its custom an sluggish from stock. i know cos i helped build them.
no offense but yet again, you have suggested using another custom on a thread meant for these only and not the fact that i said in the previous post i will build another set from scratch thus giving users the advanced option of choosing a stock rom which they are asking for.
it feels like your undermining me and taking over on various posts, stop hijacking threads to add information irrelevant to the thread involved regardless of the problem.
if this continues i will step down from RC and walk away, sorry like but its beginning to really annoy me.
If you think im being a bit to irate then pm me, happy to discuses this.
New version hosted up on main post shortly, 3 versions now available. please test accordingly. problems then come see me :good:
these are made from scratch and have taken the last few hrs to make so there shouldn't be any issues. they will require some major updating.....whats the point in stock if you don't update lol. you get as it comes from manufacturer.

Just a suggestion, while flashing the stock ROM, could you add a link to GB Google apps, so newbies could flash those without the hassles of manual update.
Yes and no lol. Idea is to give stock back with nothing touched. This way its the users choice then otherwise it would he a custom if I replaced stuff lol
BigBear is using Xparent Tapatalk Purple
Turkish stock added
In "Stock with Root" ROM, when installing any root required app, it prompt root access is not granted. Think something wrong with su.
Try updating your su binary. It will be out of date! Check busybox to. Its stock with basic root so don't expect to much in the way of custom in there.
Sent from my HTC Salsa using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2
there does seem to be some issues with SU on the stock rooted. i myself didn't get any problems with this, but for users that have, please use Stock and add root.zip. this should solve the problems listed till i can rectify whatever is the problem. i will add root.zip to main post.
i installed the stockRoot rom but the superuser app does not work properly it can not update and it does not giving me root access to any program so i can not install busybox to increase my memory. any help about this?

Status 7 fix
Hi there!
I'm new to the rooting and flashing roms business.
I had soft bricked my note GT-n7000 and after a few weeks of reading about things on the internet I have finally found the ROM that I want on my note.
It''s the [aogp 4.4.4] [unofficial] [n7000]. The problem is, whenever I try to install it, I get the Status 7 error.
This was never a problem with TWRP, but since I had to update to Clockwork Mod to install this, every ROM I try to install gives me this error.
I've tried deleting the code that mentions compatibility devices in Update Script file but no luck.
Please help!
PS: Sorry about the subject. I meant to say, status 7 fix NEEDED.
Same problem as a lot of guys. Search harder....
Flash first Raw4 kernel, reboot recovery, do all e wipes and formats, reboot again into Recovery and flash finally your Rom and Gapps...

Hey Thanks!
I was flashing the ROM with CWM and I did not know about Raw4 Kernal. I looked it up, flashed it and voila! the error disappeared.
I finally have a working phone now and a BEAUTIFUL ROM. Thanks again Jackeagle! :good:
Although, I don't understand one thing, my reactive touch keys and the home button is not working. I can use the phone with the touch screen, no problem. But the Home screen and the back and menu keys not working. [Note GT-N7000]
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a problem with my device.
I can probably add pie control and use that as an alternative, but if there is a fix, please enlighten me!
@jackeagle
Good day Sir,
Is your rom going to be an Odexed build and not Deodexed? Is it final?
If it is final, I have some questions if you don't mind.
1. Can I delete the .odex files under system/app
2. If the .odex files can be deleted, would you also add a script to zipalign the system/app? Haven't saw if this is available under kernel tweaker.
I actually prefer the deodex as I can free more space under system/app and add/push some of my apps under system/app to free for internal space and install more apps. Coz with odex I can't free more system apps so most of the apps that I use cannot be installed as I ran out of space.
Thanks!

Although, I don't understand one thing, my reactive touch keys and the home button is not working. I can use the phone with the touch screen, no problem. But the Home screen and the back and menu keys not working. [Note GT-N7000]
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a problem with my device.
I can probably add pie control and use that as an alternative, but if there is a fix, please enlighten me!

hello
Unfortunately, I had to go on omnirom after much disappointment.
- How to flash a little confusing for me.
* Flash supersu necessary?
* Use gapps cyanognmod causes crashes (google service)
* During an update, what does it flash? rom, gapps, supersu? Wipe Cache and dalvik necessary?
- I have problems with fluidity ...
So I handed the omnirom which seems more stable. I have a hard go about installing the AOSP.<br/>

I only noticed the problems of physical keys and resolves with jackeagle commenting. And the application of the gapps, I used the PA-gapps, and Slim-gapps, and both I failed only keyboard application AOSP, showing continuous closures (solved by deleting the app, I have installed another keyboard Google Play), except that not note problems.
Even use Bauner kernel (v1.2 is the one to use the v1.2.1 fails with internal SD not mount, error for sdCard0 mount on the USB storage, and not approachable ), and it seemed pretty good ROM, but would lack that can be modified to add the date to the Java options ( use EEEE dd MMMM yyyy - I might lie if available embers, now I'm testing several ROM's).
I use SurpeSu since seemed to improve (v2.16 )
PA-GApps & Slim-GApps BETA 8-x-317 is perfect, except keyboard AOSP, clossed continuous.
Simple:
Boot into Recovery mode and enter mount & storage and select mount on:
- System, cache, data and SDCard0
- Select the format's the same mount's made.
- We go to Install zip, I installed the ROM, the Gapps and select reboot system.
It should now boot without problems, except the AOSP keyboard, which you must uninstall I install an application to replace it.
- If you want you can install a kernel after gapps, but better probed without using any startup to test.

If you understand Spanish you can serve this guide I made on htcmania, since I is simpler translation from English to Spanish, Spanish to English, and it's done correctly it may not be understood in its full context, but even put much text, is to give information on possibilities or things to do in certain steps (example: ever following the format's must reinicair mobile, continue with the following steps, or we would play again reinstall a Rom Stock Samsun or Custom Rom format for ODIN pc), the link is this.
Be warned that installing a ROM kit-kat and allows the leap to the other, will not be necessary to install a kernel to jump to another ROM, but encambios ROM's always recommend the 4 mount's and the 4 format's, and you will Rom and install GApps.
download link is down.
can provide upload new link?
thank you!

*** UnOfficial Beanstalk 5.0 for the Otter2 ***
***Warning***
I am not responsible for the things you choose to do to your device
You are ultimately responsible for what happens with your device
By flashing this you have already voided and sort of warranty for your device
And I am not responsible for bricked devices
There is always a small amount of risk in what we do here...
So please do research and ask questions before things go bad
I will do my best to answer questions
***End of warning***
Please thank scott.hart.bti who is the creator of Beanstalk ROM and the Cyanogenmod Team whose work is the base of this ROM!
**About
Beanstalk is a CM based ROM with a few minor tweaks here and there to make a pretty smooth android experience.
**Install
WIPE (data, cache, and Dalvik)...you aint coming from CM12 so this will have to be a fresh and clean install
Install ROM...download available here
Install GAPPS if you so choose...available here or what ever variation you so choose
OPTIONAL install SuperSU...available here. (there is a slight bug where it may not install on its own)
OPTIONAL wipe chaches before reboot
Reboot
Enjoy!
**Download
Jan 31, 2015 here
**Change Log
Jan 31, 2015 - Initial build
**Known Issues
SuperSU is supposed to install after the ROM installs by default...for the KF2 it seems a little buggy. If thats the case you can flash after 1st boot.
Overall the system seems a little choppy not super smooth yet.
I'll get some screen shots up sometime...so there is none at the moment.
Lollipop at LAST!

You're still awesome
Your into says: "Please thank scott.hart.bti who is the creator of Beanstalk ROM and the Cyanogenmod Team whose work is the base of this ROM!" First, thank you scott.hart.bte and Cyanogenmod Team for all of your work, as well as you Obsolete1. Question: I have a STOCK KF2d Gen. I assume I will need to root first, then set up twrp, 2nd bootloader and other files as though I'm loading Otter2's android 4.4.4? I also assume I pick up with your Lolipop rom, gapps and SU at the same point in the process where I would be installing CM11.0 + 3.0.50 Kernel for Kindle Fire 2 and the gapps for it? Are my assumptions correct? Thank you again for your work on this project.
First root access then use fastboot to flash boot.img recovery 2nd bootloader then you upgrade twrp to 2.6.3.1 then you can flash this rom just don't flash anything from cm 11
Works for me. Thanks for the additional info because I would have missed the twrp upgrade to 2.6.3.1.

Are there any plans to update this "unofficial" version? I'd like to try nightlys and ultimately the "official" version. Thanks.
Ikr its like he gave up or he is secretly working on it
I'm interested in this too, would love to see some screenshots. If this becomes reasonably stable I will def give it a try.

Yes and no....busy home life at the moment plus I'm in to process of chaning distros so things are kind of a mess. This is my "other" project that does not get as much attention. My phone which runs the same thing gets more attention because I use it everyday unlike my KF. Give me a couple more days and I should have another build.
Again sorry for not responding, I didnt get any notifications that there where posts here I assumed most people had moved on so it went to way "back-burner" on the things to do. But now that I see some interest I will try to make it a little more important. Thanks again for the interest. :good:

Great work man. My SuperSU is not opening up and after it freezes the whole system starts to force close, I already reinstalled it using TWRP but no luck, I updated to the latest version using an apk I downloaded but it still won't open up and.
Can you help me root it?
Also very excited about lollipop for KF2! Let me know if I can test anything.

Yes if you have the minimum required version to install Lollipop. Because you already have CM installed it means you already have performed all the necessary bootstrap tricks.

[ROM][A2017X][B04 8.0.0][stock] SL!M8

A2017X_O_B04_SL!M8
Just for fun....no more no less...
For our dedicated stock users
For those who weren't able to install or obtain the A2017G-O-B04 OTA update, I made a SL!M8 rom (not an AROMA because atm I don't have much time ) that can boot on a working stock Oreo rom.
This version is tested on stock B02 as on my SL!M7 (based on B03). So there should be no problem at all
I hope you'll ENJOY !
Modifications :
* full system r/w
* removed some unwanted apps and the ability to remove more when booted into the rom with a root explorer
* safetynet pass cts will pass when flashing magisk 19.3
* youtube vanced
* adaway 4.2.6
* full working Dolby Atmos
* wifi working...and ofc all the rest
* fastboot working
*.....
Installation : NOTE : for those having trouble installing, flash the twrp 3.2.10 with the universal bootstack (don't forget the modem)
1. unlocked, twrp3218 (non-treble) installed (or compatible one for oreo...)
1.a boot into twrp, format data/factory reset, reboot twrp, wipe system
2. flash A2017GV1.3.0B04_BootStack ( flash your modem type again as this has the latest G-version one )
3. flash A2017X_O_B04_SL!M8
4. flash Magisk 19.3
5. wipe dalvik/cache and boot
6. setup phone
7. you should now have a fully working SL!M8 :cyclops:

I'm currently running the chinese B23 with TWRP, is it possible to flash this over? Or should I flash other rom first?
Also, a bit offtopic suggestion: You should update your camera2api enabler ZIP, because it somehow changes the build name to A2017GV1.3.0B02 on other roms (this happened to me on european B03 and chinese B23 and should also happen on this new B04)

Yes, that's the one. I can live with it as long it doesn't affect the ROM usage (I don't think it does though) but it's up to you.
About the new SL!M8, I'll see if I can flash it tomorrow and give feedback
Thanks for your awesome work.
Q: i installed b03 and cant find double tap to wake anymore. Is the Feature gone since Oreo? I wonder if the bugs im having will be gone with this update (gboard constantly crashes when opening settings so i cant change/add languages, SMS bug / can send but not receive, Turn off screen is not installed even tho i choose it in aroma Installer)
Hi, raystef66. Thank you so much for your contribution! I stayed on "ancient" slim B10 (Nougat) until now for Daydream support. Now I upgraded and it works fantastic.

So backup your stuff, factory reset, reboot twrp, wipe system, flash B04 bootstack, SL!M8 and magisk19.3

I built my own kernel from source to remove zte selinux changes that block magisk. I don't think locking the bootloader is necessary. If someone is already on a stock or stock-like Oreo build, without a vendor partition, they only have to flash system and boot.img. This can be done from fastboot.

Just to get this straight: it's only installable via Odin, and one needs to be on stock rom first, right?
So it can't be done via TWRP?
Would it be necessary then to go back to stock recovery also?
Thanks for your help in advance and for this cool rom!

No, you can flash in twrp only, and you don't need to be on stock, but it's recommended. it's confirmed that you can flash with vendor script active, but system must be resized to original state! About Stock recovery - No you can stay at twrp but data will be encrypted, better flash quota disabler.
New Update
Added A320F download link in OP
Changelog

Since I don't know the original system's size, I do not have any clue how to change it back :/
So I guess the best would be to flash stock rom via Odin first, then flash TWRP again, flash "Quota Disabler" and then your Speed Rom, right?
My dream would be to be able to go back and forth, say from LOS to Speed Rom.
So I could have a working camera and audio whenever needed and get back to any custom rom (which I really like a lot!) when I'm done.
Is this possible at all?

To resize to original state, flash pit file or FORMAT System!
Quota disabler is implemented only in A320F Mod, so yeah.
I don't know if switching back and forth is possible, because i don't use something like that.

This is Stock Rom Mod so 8.0.0, and screnies you can find in first page.
It is supposed to take a few time to flash ? because I flashed it from TWRP and it took like 1 second and I had a success message. seems strange no?
