[Question] Samsung's Caller ID and Spam Protection - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I know that Sprint has disabled it by default, but is there any way to turn it on?
With Shortcut master I was able to find the settings to turn it on but not sure if it is doing anything once turned on. Samsung stated that it doesn't exist, but know that it does and sprint technical support is taking forever. From my understanding it that they were going to give us the option with the last software update. I've also searched XDA to find the answer, however nothing came up. All I got was that Sprint disabled it, unless you have the unlocked version.
I also tried to side load the apk but it comes up as failed and cannot install.
Thoughts?

Those that have it turned on had to flash the unlocked rom for note 8 ....it's much better than having all the sprint junk anyways lol

Agreed however I took the update and have to wait for root again.

U may be able to flash the unlocked update .....if it's got the same bootloader ....

I'll try that tomorrow.
I did enable the setting with shortcut master and it seems to he working, just not the samsung version. It uses the aleint caller id but flags everything coming in.

Yeah. Sprint disabled by default on the note 8. Can't fix it without root at the moment.

Already showing up on my G2. Don't want to update. Afraid it will break root & hotspot!
Ive got it too, has anyone downloaded it yet?
With 24A my signal went down. I had better reception before KitKat OTA. Waiting for reposrts on 25B and then I'll use flashable zips from xdaddeb.

can u point me to his thread where he puts those up?
I installed it and didn't lose root, but now my NFC is buggy as its keeps turning itself off when I turn the screen off, but then turns it self back on, then goes away and finally turns back on, but that is causing a lot lag when it does that, so I have to go back to 24A to stop it, thanks so damn much Verizon.. Also I may have to do a factory reset, as I'm not seeing the volte in the options either, is that normal?
Is anyone on 25B seeing ART available in the developer options or VoLTE in the mobile networks settings page?
I see neither.

XDABBEB hasn't made an OTA zip to my knowledge and there's no real reason for one. He makes a ROM based on stock and he'll get the 25b version out eventually. The main reason to have a custom recovery is to flash custom ROMs. If you don't want a custom ROM, just root and keep the stock recovery so you can use certain apps and still take OTAs...like many do. You can return to stock (about 10 min if pc not setup) then take the OTAs and then root. Though I'd root at 24a and then take the OTA because AT&Ts latest update (5 Sep) can't be rooted with towelroot (yet) but keeps root.

I got ripoff

I Got a tmobile note 4 from craiglist, Now the phone is asking me for Samsung Account Activation? is there any way i can bypass this? please, any help will be so much appreciate it.
thanks
When do you see this? Are you able to wipe it in recovery?
I would contact the person that sold it to you, they basically locked it where if it resets, you need their samsung information to unlock the device. Don't think reformatting will do anything, but you can try to reformat via Kies

I did a factory wipe recovery with the buttons pressing combination, however it still ask for the samsung account, and I can't contact the selle.
Thanks
If you can't contact the seller & they sold you a locked phone, maybe try filling a police report. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that considered fraud?
If it's just the reactivation lock though, there's a way around that.

Have you rooted the device. You should be able to wipe the Internal storage. I'd try flashing a CM based ROM.
The device should be usable still. The use probably had reactivation lock turned on that's why the Samsung account has it locked down. Also the phone itself may be stolen. You may want to check the imei if you can view it to see if it had been blacklisted.

my dude, relax, i'm not sure this would work but i see no reason why not since it completely reflashes the phone's firmware
I'm mobile at the moment and maybe someone else can link you
But you need Odin and the full tar files of the latest firmware (Cog2?) and a windows machine.
Once you have those we can walk you through the process.

Downgrade to 4.4.2 factory test firmware for SM-S903VL

I found that you can use kingroot to root the factory test firmware for the SM-S903VL
This is the only root method I know and I belive it is the first for the SM-S903VL
The factory firmware has drawbacks, no text calling or downloads or play store.
If anyone can find a way to make this better and actually be able to use the play store phone and texting let us know.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DO THIS

I flashed a custom recovery used from one of the other S5 phones but it kept booting into a page that said take it to a Verizon employee. I assume that's because of the bootloader being locked. I installed Flashify with an apk and used that to flash.

I used Flashify to flash a custom recovery image, TWRP. It worked but the device wouldn't boot into the recovery image or even back into the operating system anymore. It went straight to a page telling me to take my phone to Verizon store so Verizon could fix my phone. I tripped something.
I just opened Odin and reflashed 4.4.2 and kept messing around, that fixed my phone.
Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

Hi,
Thank you for posting the firmware. Downloading as I write this post.
I have the S7 Edge SM-G935A for AT&T. Ever since I did the Nougat update, it seems that my phone has slowed down considerably since then. It boots slow. I'm getting a lot of lag and stutter upon booting up my phone and it just doesn't perform the same as it has when I got it a year ago. A family member of mine has the same phone but doesn't have the issues I'm having. I have a SD card in my phone and they don't but there's no difference in performance if I take the SD card out or not. I've done multiple factory resets and setting it back up as new with no data. But the same issue happens. Even in safe mode it seems to have same issues.
Compared my phone to a friend's Note 5 and the Note 5 beat my phone in terms of performance. It starts up faster and just feels more quicker then mine.
Since this is 100% AT&T stock firmware, this won't void the Knox warranty at all since I am not rooting?
Also, my phone right now is on the August 1st security patch. After flashing this, I will then be able to update my phone back to the latest security patch?

Thank you for your answer to my questions. I always get worried of doing something wrong when trying to flash the firmware.
Is it required that I use all the files with Odin to flash the firmware? Or can I just use the AP file since I've never rooted before? Also, I've read online about having to enable OEM unlock and USB Debugging when flashing. Do I need those enabled or can Ieave them off since I'm not trying to root?
Thank you!

I dont know if im the best person to offer a possible solution, but i do have a thought. I remember back on the Nexus 6, it didnt come with any carrier bloat, BUT, if when you powered it on the first time, if your SIM was in the phone, it automatically installed all the carrier bloat. Obviously, that was a different phone and manufacturer, but it might be worth a shot?

I took the sim out before I even turned the phone on. I bought it in full thru Verizon but since the phone I unlocked i'm using it with cricket. I just wanna get rid of all the Verizon stuff. The loading screen that comes on when u turn ur phone on and off and all the other bloatware.

Did you use home csc or CSC. CSC will wipe to factory, home will preserve the data.

I used CSC since it said it would wipe it. After my phone reset and I got the green pass in Odin, everything was still there the only difference was a US Celluar app but everything Verizon was still there.

And you had the BL ap CP and the CSC (Not home_CSC) all there? I just did it on my phone and it was reset to completely factory no issues.

Yep!!! Everything was put in correctly. I even got the green pass in Odin. The bloatware is just still there. That's what I wanna get rid of. After the reset I even had to go thru setting up the phone again but everything Verizon was still there. I'm using cricket so that sim card is in the phone. Is it because my phone is Sm-N960U and not SM-N960U1?

Did you by chance try it without the sim card installed? I took the other person's advice and took the sim card out. I setup the phone and then put the sim card back in.

And you used the same files posted to this thread and the odin that was posted as well? Otherwise I don't know why it didn't flash it correctly.

Obviously it DID NOT flash the FW properly. You would not have any bloatware if it did. Try it again.
