lowering quality and turning off aod/edge lightning will only save you a few minutes, you may as well have them on enjoy the features.
The SoT is user dependant, everyone uses there phone for different things and in different ways.
Also your phone has been on for over 20 hours, im sure you would get the same SoT as the rest if your phone was not sitting (screen off) running apps in the background for so long.
Having said that spotify is one of the things you have used in that 20 hours and judging by the %4 it used i'd say you were streaming a fair bit, that obviously does not add to your SoT but your still draining the battery. if you use your phone mostly idle while streaming music why does SoT matter?
No one can "help" you here i don't think, it is your usage habbits, this is what you get im afraid and from what i can see its not bad at all
my only tip would be if you dont use your phone turn it off instead of letting stuff like facebook eat away at your battery all day for when you actually do want to use it for Netflix or whatever :good:
Edit: Also your only at %25 still can get a couple hour SoT out of that :silly:

I started netflix after taking these Screenshots , Atm i m on 11% and my sot is 3 hours and 13 mins . 14% batt gave me 1 hour + sot which is decent right ? Something just sucks so much battery when the phone is on idle

That's normal, that's how you receive instant updates from emails WhatsApp etc Facebook is an idle killer. You can either put the apps to sleep so there not active while idle or turn the phone off all together when you don't need it. Like I said I don't think there's anything wrong with your phone it's normal not for me but it's normal for you.

Samsung has one built in.
Go to Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery
click 'Save Power' that will put your apps to sleep.
Also you can scroll to the bottom of that page and press 'Always Sleeping Apps'
and you can add what apps you want to that list and they will never run in the background while the phone is asleep.
Alternatively you could use an app like Greenify.

You can try "greenify" at playstore, it is free, and a donation pkg that further enhaces its features

My battery drains so fast...

I dont know what the deal with it. I downloaded juice defender and nothing has changed.
I unplugged it from charge today at 6.20am as of now (10.20am) I have %79 battery left. 5 mins (if that) web surfing on 3g, 10 txts and 3mins of voice...
This is just ridiculous. If I was a moderate user I will have no juice by 2pm
I dont get it??
I have cyanogen mod 5.0.7.1 with oc'ed kernel. Screen brightness is about %20-%25 and it times out in 1 min. It syncs every 2 hours.
Try Enom's official ROM. I get nearly twice the battery life on that than on cyanogen.
OC-ed kernel and looking for battery efficiency?

No need to be smart about it. My buddy has the same rom and with moderate usage he gets 24 hrs of battery life. And also, It down clocks to 245mhz when it is not in use.
Well, you've answered yourself - if the ROM is the same, you have 3 options: faulty battery, faulty HW, or different apps installed and one of them draining your battery.
You can test the battery by switching batteries with your buddy, and you can check the apps by doing Nandroid backup, wiping everything and monitoring the phone battery drain, possibly even comparing logs of switched off devices (yours and your buddy's). In case you'll keep seeing significant difference - there will be no other way but to assume your HW is faulty. In case your battery is ok and wiping helps - install apps one by one and monitor, to find the rogue one.

24 hours.... I cannot make it through an 8 hour work day.... sure I use the phone, but that is the point of it... I went to bed at 100% woke up at 94%... pretty big drop for sleep mode.... this screen and hardware, you will not get great battery life without tweaks, IMO.... (or just do not use it)
everytime i use cyanogen 507 i ALWAYS get poor battery life. i switch back to stock ROM and its better. i really dont know why that would be like that though...

psh i took a nap one night (maybe a 3 or 4 hour nap), left my battery at i would guess 20-30 percent and when i woke up, i wanted to check my tweets so i hit the home button, come to find out its dead O_O
I see 2.5-3.5%/hr here.. No Facebook or Twitter syncing, but Google cal/contat sync, K9 IMAP Push email, weather updating, some other misc stuff...
CLEARLY something is wrong... Have you guys run System Panel or something to monitor the processes running to make sure something isn't driving the CPU all the time or something?
Do your phones get warm? Mine stays ice cold if it's outside of my pocket at home or at my desk at work, 73ish degrees F/23 C.
What about when you first load a ROM and the setup wizard has a checkmark next to Data collection by Google? Could that be it?
You should check the "Other Usage" section of the Battery History (in Spare Parts). See if your phone is sleeping at all. If the awake time is 100%, then something is keeping it awake, so check the "Partial wake usage" to see which app is doing that.
going from 100% to 94% while you sleep overnight seems pretty normal to me. certainly doesnt seem "bad".
definitely use system panel to see what's using your CPU. in monitoring, history, plot, top apps.

well some of this is going to be common sense, but today I turned off 3g (use 2 g networks only), wifi and the gps, I turned off live wall paper and I turned my brightness from auto to 40% (which, you cannot even tell the difference... the phone is still well lit). I turned on wifi or 3g when I wanted to check something.... and then turned it off.... today was not a super busy day on the phone.. but at the end of the work day... I had 60% of my battery left.... it is usually around 10-15%... I got the ideas from this site

hope it helps. Don't really need all the blind when not using the phone!

[Q] Is my battery broken?

Hey I have just bought HTC One 2 days ago. Compared to my old Sensation XE battery life completly sucks. I usually use phone without battery saver, on auto brightness and with Wi-Fi/3g turned on only on demand. Today 8 hours after unplugging phone from the charger I only have 26%. Screen was turned on for 2 hours and 45 minutes only and Wi-Fi worked for 3 hours and 46 mins. I might also say that I did not charge my One before usage to 100% as HTC advised. Was that very crucial? Do you think that phone might be broken or I should just give him time to settle baterry better.
That's sounds like what I get. I turn off mobile data when using WiFi and vice versa. I always use power saver unless I'm 3D gaming. Which is only on the weekends.
I've had mine for 3 months now.
I've seen people get 7:00 screen time on stock unrooted.
I think my battery's broken too. I can barely reach 3 hours of screen time. With 2 hours I get like 11 maybe 12 hours of on time. Something's wrong with our phones...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your battery stats seem on par with me and the OP. Seems that only a select few phones get decent battery life.
My kernel (android os) has been in the 25-35% range,it has never been that high before.
battery life lousy
I get pretty horrible drain too. I charged it to nearly full around 7:30 last night. I took about 2 minutes of video, sent one text, and checked my email 3 times. After that I went to sleep and the phone sat idle. At 6:30 this morning, I'm down to 9%.

Wow, that's real bad.. When my phone is off during night maybe 7% is gone. Then again I'm rooted and use greenify aswell as battery doctor if that has any affect.
On screen time seems like my battery drains pretty fast too though. After 2 hours of music and surfing and watching videos I guess atleast 40% would be gone.
My battery life became horrible, too. My phones loses 4% per unused hour. No App seems to be responsible for that drain. Flightmode or powersaving mode ain't making a difference. I hope we'll find a solution for our drain.

@Racingmatt your power management services is on for quite a bit. do you have alarms.? i would bet that you either that maps location enabled or something of the sort. cause you also have NLPcollector on for around 40 minutes which is a bit much. also i would turn off GPS if your not actively using it.
@Rachorid how are you setting up your wifi? is it set to always be on? or set to turn off when screen off? you have alot of wifi wake. might be due to that. i know when i'm at home my wifi actively pings all devices connected which will force wake up my phone. yea its a bit annoying but i live with it. otherwise i just keep my phone plugged in.
if you both can get some SS of alarms i can give you a better idea. and when you SS the alarms make sure to click on the ones with the most wake lock so i can see the secondary screen that shows what the actual wakelock command is happening.

Here are the latest stats. As you can see many Google wakes.. removing Maps/Now/GMail/turning of Location (a few days ago) had no impact on my drain. The 2nd app on Partial Wakelocks was used actively.
I also disabled Wifi for about 2 hours.. no impact, too. Flightmode also had no impact (a few days ago).

The reason I didnt give you a alarm ss is because I didn't have any alarms when I went to the alarms section. I also had all locations services including GPS enabled but I just now disabled GPS but left network location enabled I'll give you a screenshot later so you can see the differences

I had awesome battery life a month ago with Wifi always on, auto. brightness and every app on hourly sync. (I have my phone since 7th of march) Sometimes I didn't lost a percent over night (8 hours) and I just don't know what it could be because I didn't install another app and no app seems to be responsible for that stanby drain. My on-screen battery life is still good. It also doesn't matter which ROM or kernel I'm using.
Here is my latest stats after 12 hours with 5 minutes of GPS use (turned off when not using)and network location on all the time with 3g/4g on all the time(turns off after a period of inactivity) . I can't give you a alarm stat because I'm not rooted.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in today's smartphones need atleast 10 cycles to show optimum power
so hold on until 2 weeks then you will get the full performance
i get 2 days of battery on my HTC One (since i dont have internet on my Simcard)
its 2G connection and auto Brightness and switched bloatwares off
i use Android Revolution HD 12.2

Battery life?

Hi guys, I have a question about the xperia zr, how is the battery? gsmarena posted some impressive results, but how about in real life, can if get 5-6 hours of screen-on time? my gt-i8730 can do 6 hours normally, how does this act? thanks )
Yes.. for me it lasts for a long time screen on
you may check my review on the 4.3 FW

-These tests depends on my own usage ,so it may differ depends on everyone's usage-
• Average Usage •
it lasts for 1 Day and 13 Hours with average usage
~4:30 Hrs Talk Time
~23 Hrs Wi-Fi On
~3 Hrs Screen On (Chatting ,Browsing and downloading)
• Heavy Usage •
it lasts for 10 Hours with continuous heavy usage on medium brightness with the auto enabled
~5 Hrs Screen On (Chatting and Browsing)
~8 Hrs Wi-Fi On (using it even when the screen is off)

Yes it's very impressive!! Let's say, you can reach evening without any problems even with medium/heavy usage. With "medium/heavy" I mean if you turn on GPS for 20 minutes navigating, 24 hours of wifi/data switched on, 1 hour of browsing, and texting all the day. But the very impressive thing for me is that if you play 1 full hour with a heavy game such as riptide, the battery doesn't fall down, you will lose only a 6-8% of battery. I tested the battery with cyanogenmod 11 and stock 4.3, well, the stock firmware battery usage is better by far!!

I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed at least 6-7+ hours of general on-screen usage, assuming you don't have a thousand things forcing every CPU core to be at max load.
I bought the phone having read the gsmarena battery benchmark results for it, and I can say from experience that they don't come close (as in, worse). Same for the standby time on the phone is not what is stated by Sony/GSM but of course it's still a pretty amazing phone, for me I bought it for the supposed crazy good battery life (11:20 hours constant web browsing? I get half that) which isn't an improvement from my old phone so probably going to sell it.

but for internet usage it lasts with me for 10 Hours

I searched for your problem, here what i get :
The media server application indexes all your media on the phone.
Its common that if you transfer media files to your phone that the power consumption of the media server will go up but only for a short period of time. This is necessary, otherwise app's won't be able to find your newly imported media.
But in your case, since you seem to be having troubles with the media server app constantly consuming battery. I think that you may have a/or several corrupt media files in the phone or on your SD card. Causing the media server app to constantly trying to index files.
Just to do a quick test, try to copy all your important media and other files to your computer then delete them from your phone or do a format on your storage memories and check if you still experience this.
If you don't, the problem is as I suspected a broken or corrupt media file. The hard part is to figure out which one.
Source
And while searching i found some app that might fix your problem (it requires Root permission) , it's called Mediaserver Killer, get it on Google Play Store
i didn't test it but there is some positive feedbacks about it

Mediaserver is an apps running in background. So Check which apps you installed recently. Uninstall then.
Normally Utter, proximity sensor on/off, open mic+,. Wifi GPS seeking apps, This are just example. Find out.
I had same problem two month before. I don't remember exactly which app was causing problem but I unstalled some of them and got result.

[Q] Battery draining too fast on Galaxy S6

Hey guys. I recently bought a GS6 and I love everything about the phone....except the battery! This is literally a deciding factor for me vs the iPhone 6.
I know it has a quad HD screen but my battery drains WHEN THE SCREEN IS OFF. My provider (T-Mobile) says one reason could be that I used all my data (T-Mobile just slows down your speeds). This can also mean it's constantly searching for a better signal. Sometimes I don't get reception indoors but usually my reception is good.
Now, I would understand if my battery was dropping IF I had the screen on, but it's not. It's dropping a percent every 2-3 minutes.
Anyone have this issue and can combat it? My data plan reloads in two days so I can see if it gets better but if not, I will be switching to an iPhone....
Thanks in advance.
I just found out you can't use an iPhone without a simcard inserted..?? That's ludacris! Can't use it as a camera, mediaphone, mp3 player.. nothing.. they steal your money bro.. literally. Don't get brain washed. i.e. Use aftermarket cables, the phone will catch fire and burn your house down as punishment..
iPhone all the apps are paid, since you may get used to it.. you should download better battery stats in the playstore, and it will pinpoint you to the battery drain.. could be something as simple as some bloat app. i.e. facebook trying to connect and sync and all that stuff, when you have no data. Same problems when just on wifi? Airplane mode + wifi?
perhaps you can try rooting, pingpongroot just came out and will root your s6 without tripping knox so you can reset your phone back to normal if you decide to go to the dark side.
Purpose of android and the Galaxy s6 is you can make it better or worse thru rooting, tinkering etc. . iPhones are straight same robotic, limited, just got 1080p screens, consistent right out of the box.
Tinker bro!!
The battery drain is probably from a couple of problems you can find by looking at the first page of the general section. About going to the iPhone all I have to say is the iPhone 6 had horrible battery life on launch. So if you where a early adopter to the iPhone 6 you probably would be equally disappointed. Once we get android 5.1.1 we should have really good battery life. My s6 already lasts longer than my LG g3 ever did and it had a bigger battery so I'm pretty pumped for 5.1.1.
I get about 10 to 12 hours of medium to heavy use without charging.
I don't use powersaver, have volte off, wifi search off, wifi calling off, and trust agents smart lock (google) off.
This is with auto screen brightness.
I have a Zerolemon 2800mah case with me as well, but I never use it.

I'm disappointed with my S6 battery but love everything else. I came from an S4 that had amazing battery life. I hope 5.1.1 really does fix this issue....

I'll track how much battery I really get. If I get 4-5 hours SoT I'll be happy. It's just the drain while the screen is off really bothers me.

Not to sound braggish, but I always get at least 4 hours SOT. Total standby time varies (30-40 hours) depending on how much I use it, but SOT is always between 4-5 hours which is all I expect from a 2550 mAh battery. Battery life during my first week was awful (so bad that I considered selling it) but after rooting, debloating and other tweaks, I am much happier. I am also running Scuk's XtreStoLite Pure Edition rom, which is an extremely lean version of stock with all Samsung bloatware removed. However, I am still on the stock unmodified kernel with no underclocking or other kernel hacks, and I always get at least 30 hours standby. If you want to get serious about better battery life, I recommend flashing a debloated rom. But if you want to stay stock, then use Titanium Backup to freeze the stuff you don't use and Greenify the rest, and your battery life will improve. Just don't expect to set battery life records with the S6, because it will never happen.
I'm not sure why you are losing a percent every 2-3 min when the phone is on standby. I get great battery life on mine. Today I lightly used my phone (A few calls and texts, maybe took 10 pictures and some short videos, browsed the web and YouTube a little) but it was mostly in standby. It has been just short of 12 hours since it was fully charged this morning and it is still at 71%.
Maybe you have a defective battery. Also, and I may have been imagining it, but I think the battery life improved after a week or two of use. Maybe there is a break in period for it.

hank you for replying! I do actually want to stay on stock, but I found this neat thread/program from an XDA user that lets you remote bloat so I will try that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
That's the link.
I would actually be very satisfied with 30-40 hours of standby time with 4-5 hours of SoT, which is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. If you may, I just have a couple questions to ask. Do you leave Wifi/data on when you're not using it to receive push emails, etc. throughout the day and do you have the Facebook and Messenger app installed? I noticed if I left them running in the background they sucked up my battery.

Wow, your battery sounds phenomenal! I had 80% this morning and after 8 hours I'm under 50% already with very light use. =/ I feel it's more like 3%/hour on standby but if I can get it to 1-1.5% every hour with wifi and sync on that would be perfect. Thanks for the reply!
Tagging this thread - I'd be happy to hit 20 hours with 4 hours SOT on this battery - today I got 15 hours standby and 2 hours 20 minutes SOT before having to charge.
Guys, found a really nice debloater tool you can use on stock too!

I just need to know which ones to remove (or a list of what app does what now so I can remove it)

I have wifi and location enabled all the time. BT on while in my car, otherwise BT off.
I don't facebook. FB is a known battery hog. Get rid of those 2 apps and you will probably gain another hour SOT.
Here are my current battery stats, on track for another 40 hrs standby + 5 hrs SOT. Overnight drain 2-3%.
IMO the battery life got better over time.. I noticed a huge drain initially.. but for some reason after about 3 weeks with my s6 it's gotten noticeably better.. Its not the best battery, but it does improve

It appears that it simply disables the app (unless you're rooted). There's an app you can download to do it easier. Download Package Disabler from the Play Store.

Very impressive. I'll hang on to FB because it isn't showing up in my list of used programs atm but if I see any difference I'll remove it. I lost 4% overnight so that's an improvement.

Yes, I just want to disable it, not remove it because you can't use that space anyways so it's just better to disable it in case you need to re-enable it for an OTA or if you need to return/sell.

Wondering if this is considered decent battery life? This is with very light use of text, data and wifi with email sync. The standby time is great but the on-screen time is meh. I also used airplane mode in areas where I was getting spotty reception during class. I also get the message "No internet connection or server not available" and I feel like a certain app is searching for a connection that could drain the battery more but I'm not sure which app it would be.

Your standby time is great but your SOT isn't that great. Your email app is using a lot of battery syncing. I recommend using Greenify or Servicely to restrict wakeups.
Your idle drain curve looks a bit steep. Mine is almost flat. How much does it drain overnight?
Facebook and FB Messenger are battery hogs. Delete those and you will probably get another hour SOT.
Good idea using airplane mode in areas where you know you won't get signal. You could use Tasker or Llama to automate switching back & forth.

I wish 9am was early! I unplugged mine at about 0430 this morning. My screen on time is only about an hour and 15 minutes though.
My phone still stays awake too much. One hour is from music during the gym - I'm not sure why the kernel has it staying awake for 6+ hours though

Yeah that is jacked up. GSam monitor shows your phone has been awake for over 8 hrs, so it is not going into deep sleep. Out of curiosity, install CPU Spy and see what it shows. It should be similar to this:

P20 pro battery issues

Hi
Got my p20 pro a few days ago, love the phone but have a few issues, mainly battery.
After seeing slot of comments saying how people are easily getting 6/7 even 8 or 9 hours sot I'm struggling to get to 5. I have display on auto, removed uneeded apps, have darkened colour selected for menus etc yet I can't get through a day of use (Twitter, email, internet and some YouTube videos) I do have Spotify on in the background slot, but looking at the usage settings the highest battery use for that has been around 241 ma, so not a great deal
Is there anything obvious I'm missing?
A second issue is that when using pinch to zoom in you tube in landscape mode I get a line between the screen and the notch which looks like a weird display gap and is really annoying, anyone else get that?
Lastly...in camera mode I've watched a ton of phone reviews and night mode is a swipe able option along the bottom, next to aperture mode etc...however I don't have this, I have to go into more then night mode, anyone know why that is? ( I'm in the UK if that makes any difference)
Thanks for any help you can give
Ross
Same here, Im not impressed with the battery.
Same here. Its not a deal breaker though over night
I lose 2% on idle with aeroplane mode on and then shortly using 2% drops off.
We seem to forget that this is the initial release of the firmware - I am sure huawei will optimise it further to improve battery
My phone nearly always gets charged overnight, the fact that this is now easily getting me through the day with zero scares is good for me, I'm not trying to eek 2 days out of it, if Huawei somehow get that then all well and good, but for now I'm happy knowing it's unlikely to die on me if I leave the house at 100%
I had the same issue, but seem to have stabilised it.
Try the following :
Stick to one resolution rather than smart.
Disabled adaptive eye.
Keep the notch on
Managed all apps manually (setting only my key apps to auto and run in background)
I also deleted the cache on all apps and the system via boot menu because I think migration caused some of the issues.
I'm sure mines got something going on in the back ground, fully charged to 100% left in standby while driving to work, arrive (30 mind later with the phone not used) and it's gone down 3%.
Tried the settings above and have manual control over all the apps, I kill off apps after I use them and it's still draining worse than any phone I've had for the last few years.

Yeah, the phone menus are a step backwards from the mate 10 pro. Dunno why they've done it this way

I get between 8 and 9 SOT a day, Wifi most of the day, 3 hours netflix on 4g with BT headphones, instagram, whatsapp, web browsing, streaming deezer music on BT headphones, texts, some calls. No snapchat or games though and facebook is not logged in.
Haven't tested standby drain yet but maybe it's standby that's killing your battery?
This is in one day though and is excessive use as I have two Instagram accounts and lots of work emails as well. I also don't have a pc at home so use phone for browsing.
How is your settings within the battery category? Do you manage the apps to etc run manually or what do you have in the settings that gets you so much of SOT?
So after some days of testing and trying out some battery monitor apps, the max SOT that I get is 5 hours and 45 minutes.
GSam reports that Android System and Kernel (Android OS) use more than 30% of the battery combined. Is that normal? I'll attach some screenshots.
What I also find interesting is that the AccuBattery app shows that the estimated capacity of my battery being at 3500mAh out off the 4,000mAh design capacity and battery health is at 88%.

Unfortunately I haven't had any luck either. I've deactivated almost everything that could be using up the battery and I still don't get more than 6-7 hours of SOT... I've had the phone for two months now, battery life didn't really get better as some people mention. I carry a powerbank with me cause when I'm out and taking photos it doesn't even make it through half the day...
Did you guys deactivate the option mobile data while connected with wifi? That drains a lot of battery while connected with wifi and is activated out of the box for no reason. What also drains battery are the two options under location settings to search for wifi networks all the time.
When I was on emui I set all apps to manual and only activated active in background and auto start for apps that really need it and I want to get notifications from, like WhatsApp and telegram.
Under mobile data settings I also deactivated background data for those apps and boom, easily 10+ hrs SOT when on WiFi or 7-8 hrs on mobile data.
I'm running force Doze app as well but that might only help with standby drain.
Oh and get rid of Facebook, messenger and snapchat if you want good battery. They are known for huge drain and there are good or even better alternatives like Friendly e.g.

That does not sound too bad...At least you're getting 6-7 hours of SOT. I'm getting like 4H MAX lately. And that is mostly internal usage! with low brightness.

Thanks for that! I've just disabled "Mobile data always on" and we'll see how much difference does it make. I also might give Friendly a shot.
Also, if I disable background data/app launch for Facebook, that will surely prevent facebook to sync constantly, right? I don't need constant notifications from facebook, only from messenger.
Also I noticed I went to sleep with 100%, after 7 hours I woke up with 92% left. That is with Always ON display. Is this normal standby drain? I'm also thinking about disabling always on display as it does not show notifications correctly anyway.

Yes that should prevent notifications from Facebook.
Hm when I charge it to 100% I usually still have 100% when I wake up 7hrs later. That doesn't mean I have no drain but I think the phone stays at 100% fairly long and seems to drain faster on low battery percentage (similar to iPhone afaik). When I charge to 90% for example I wake up with 87% or so. That's more realistic I think. Wifi on, everything else off, no AOD.

Not too many actually. Could probably deactivate some more but seems fine as it is.
My system is German but it must be somewhere in wireless and network - mobile network - advanced.
