My test are exactly opposite And in front camera the difference is extraordinary..

Which Goggle camera version are you using ? Also are you trying only normal mode or HDR+ too, tell me tho HDR+ configuration as whenever I select any of them fro the list the app force closes... And if tat settings is off then HDR+ will not work.
Update: got v 3.8b working... With these settings

Well.. I have install the Google camera 5.1 now, it mean the new version. You must uninstall the previous version and install the new version

You'll need a 64 bit ROM. But there's no 64 bit Nougat ROM. Only Oreo. Then you can install the camera apk like a normal app.

I have installed modded Camera NX on CrDroid 8.1 x64 and portrait mode works although it has some focusing issues (need to switch to normal camera and back to portrait mode to regain focus).

You Need To Install 64bit TWRP
Download the latest twrp : https://dl.twrp.me/potter
Install > Install Image > Select TWRP. Img > Select As Recovery >Swipe To Flash.
And As You Will Flash Pixel Experience 8.1 (1/17 latest build) you have to wipe data ,system,cache and dalvik cache Done

Hi friends,
I finally found a combination of ROM and working Pixel 2 camera with no focus issue and with portrait mode, HDR+ working on both cameras on my Moto G5 Plus. I am using official latest Oreo Resurrection Remix Rom and this Pixel 2 camera apk from arnova https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V6.apk .
Only that combination is working for me. I did not changed any setting in camera, everything pre-set and no need to do anything like turning on or off camera-2 api. I hope this will help you all.

You should use Oreo based ROM, I am using Resurrection Remix ROM, and install it as a normal apk.
UPDATE: i found a new apk which is working absolutely fine on android 10 roms.
negligible or no freezing issue or shutter greyout issues. (rarely- with flash on pic doesnt click, so turn off the flash and click again)
personally i have tested it on Evolution x, Pixel Experience and Havoc ROM.
Features-
1. it has super-res feature with upto 10x digital zoom. Working absolutely insane?. (attaching sample)
2. night mode working perfectly on both cameras.
2. everything works

Most of the asus zenfone max pro m1(6gb) users facing a problem with their gcam. Problems are:-
1. Sometimes Shutter icon turns gray and doesn't click pictures.
2. Hrd+enhanced settings sometimes crashes.
3. Hdr processing stuck in the middle and need the device to be restarted.
Guide.:-
Either its the android oreo problem or the previous apks problem. But now my version of gcam never crashes or shows bugs as listed.
+ it has google lens support.
I am giving the link of the gcam. apk i am using.
Guys if the problem still happening, try switching to aosp extended pie rom. This rom. Is buttery smooth + g am never crashes even on extreme settings.

it's not working... The main camera interface comes up with no preview, but switching to google lens gives preview . if i switch from still to video, the app crashes....
Can u make a fix for the 4gb/32GB version also?
Btw, arnova's gcam is working fine with preview, but i miss ur tweakings...

As i mentioned in my post, not every apk work best with every rom. I just shared my experience was best the combination of this apk and aosp pie rom.

This looks interesting!! How was the camera quality of roms like this? I realise that we'd lose features but camera quality usually is lost when using camera apps other than the stock ones?
*UPDATE - just watched this video and see that they managed to port the stock camera - amazing!
I would LOVE to have rooted resurrection remix with stock Mate 20 pro camera - REALLY hope this is possible and will be eagerly awaiting/watching this thread...

unfortunately I talked to them and do not want to know they do not even support p20 pro ... boh not because a project that is called openkirin does not need to support devices with kirin

My Learnings for OMNIROM Beta 3:
- Rom is stable and very usable
- Camera Software is same as original
- Fingerprint does not work properly
- IR Facescanning does not work properly (normal camera face scan works)
- ROM seems prerooted - at least root checks detect Manipulation

No it's not. I also noticed autofocus in the stock camera app didn't work as well as it did in factory firmware. Had to close it and open it for it to focus.
How is beta 5?

Resurrection remix was awesome except that stock camera was not up-to-date(expected) and fingerprint/face ID don't work properly.
Please provide nokia 7 plus Gcam for android 10.In my device, nokia built in camera & gcam installed but after update my android 9 to 10, my built in camera work but gcam not work.gcam open capture but not save picture.It capture & show hdr+processing.

Parrot version 7.0.009.259843690 works fine. Never had problems with it. You should reboot your device if you've instaalled
