Coming from Nexus 6 (Pure Nexus)...which ROM for Mi MIX? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hi,
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. If not, please let me know.
I just bought a Mi Mix last week and am wondering which ROM is best for me. I had been using a Nexus 6 with Pure Nexus which works very well for my needs. Given that, and the following requirements, which ROM would be best for the Mi Mix?
1. Double tap to wake.
2. Not MIUI (I really don't like it).
3. Stable (I'd like to load once and not have to flash new ROMs very often).
4. Nougat 7.1.2
5. Lots of customization options.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to the yard.
Simply all your criterions are telling like you'll get what you want by Resurrection Remix rom. Second shot perhaps should be the AOSiP rom.
Sent from my lithium using XDA Labs

Right now I think AOSiP is the most rounded of them all right now. Just my opinion though.

AICP. It works best for me, has all the customizations you need but isn't as overloaded as RR.

You dont want miui, but sadly epicrom is the fastest in my experience. I tried rr it is recommended.

I loaded Resurrection Remix last night and it was working well until I tried to run the SquareHome launcher. It kept crashing so I then tried Lineage but it went into a reboot loop shortly after the initial start around where you enter the wireless information. So then I flashed AOSiP and it also went into a reboot loop at about the same point. I wiped everything each time. So at this point I flashed RR again just to see if it would load without rebooting and it worked fine. Fortunately I was able to figure out why the SquareHome launcher wasn't working so it's all good now too. Everything with RR seems to be working fine so far but I haven't used it very much yet.
However, I'm curious why the others caused the reboot loop problem. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Update: I have the YouTube slowness and audio problem so I'm guessing my firmware needs to be updated. Could that have caused the reboot issue with AOSiP and Lineage also?
Thanks for all the help!

Not sure, but the video slowness and audio problem is caused by the dated firmware, try flashing the 7.7.20 firmware found in the RR thread.
I will also recommend you to try ViperOS , it doesnt have much support but the rom is smooth with great battery life (compared to other AOSP/Lineage based roms in my experience) and the performance is very good with no need of a custom kernel.

Thanks. I've downloaded ViperOS and may give it a try. Updating firmware did fix the video slowness and audio problems.

I have tried every rom for the Mi Mix and the ViperOs is the perfect fit. It's probably the closet to Pure Nexus. I get 8 hours screen time easily, very smooth and very customizable, I love it

I've been having a couple weird things with RR (intermittent proximity sensor and a couple random reboots) so I flashed ViperOs. It seems pretty awesome so far. Thanks!

ViperOs is awesome. Unfortunately I've decided to sell the Mi Mix. I've tried but I just can't get past the audio quality from the 'earpiece' during calls.

Anyone interested in a good deal on a basically brand new Mi Mix 6/256? U.S. only please. Thanks.

Sadly, yes. As I mentioned, I just can't get past the earpiece limitations. My hearing isn't the best and I'm having problems with hearing and understanding callers compared to other phones I have. I really love the phone (that screen! and that battery life!) but I need to use it as a phone which just isn't working for me.

Fair enough to leave. I even have had an another(basic) phone to make calls from it.

Damn, is the sound that bad during calls? I'm in the process of setting mine up. Waiting the 72 hours to unlock my bootloader. Which rom did you find to suit your needs the best? An how much you asking for your mix?

It may not be that bad for everyone. My hearing isn't the greatest so I'm sure that factors in. The best ROM I used in the short time I was using it is ViperOS. I've got it on Swappa right now for $415 but that's a little flexible.
Thanks.

+1 for RR.
I was exactly just like you, came from N6 and I am happy with this ROM.

Universal Roms???????

None on the Vivid Roms are anywhere close to stable, and all the dev's are leaving :crying:
I may be misinformed, but there is not a single rom that works flalessly on our devices...
So, this brings me to my question. Is there a UNIVERSAL ROM for ANY ANDROID DEVICE?
No, there is no universal Rom
Why?
-because every android device is completely different from each other...even similar devices have quite a bit of differences-chipsets, manufacturers, drivers, mount points...etc, they all very from device to device

i suggest flashing some roms instead of putting dow the forum. some ppl have put alot of work into these roms
Try albinoman's CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM. It's Jellybean 4.2.2 and is stable. Only problem I have is reception bars are inaccurate, but that is a rare problem.
Only other bug I have encountered is reception drops on first boot. Easy fix in the development thread.

Hi,
I flashed this Rom, but it seems that the in-call and speaker volume is still very low.
I started from the stock ICS rom, unlocked, rooted, flash boot.img and flash the rom. The volume issue in CM10 is solved in this Rom?
Thanks

No its going to plauge this device forever. I am going to try one thing to see if I can make it work .. I found something.. But It most likely wont work and this is sorta off topic to what this started out to be. If you have any questions go ask em in the Development section

It is a bug in all of the AOSP based roms. Albinoman released a new build which kinda fixes it. I haven't tested it yet but according to the posts on the thread seems to be working well.

What an interesting post that relays something I've been noticing about XDA, it's development and far too many post of someone who asserted they had no problems putting such and such ROM into his device, "Here's the Tutorial" issue I'm having at present.
I have even openly complained about the only thing I was learning how to do here was how to brick devices in every possible way. And the way I found out how to recover from it properly, sure wasn't from them here. A lot of times you can get the official firmware straight from the manufacturer, online. I've been gone 8 to 10 years and what happened? Most of the posts are Ghost-Town status! Back to the point.
I don't see why they can't be universal, really. And it seems as though, that this was overlooked by every single so-called developer out there. How do you make a 64 bit processor with a dual core would be the first clue. You got your phone(modem) and a split partition that the modem may control sometimes but, can be modified. They seem to have decorated the tree, so to speak rather than actually "build" something. Oh it looks nice and all with the tinsel and shinny stuff. But they're in a hurry I guess and missing the reality of it. You can see it with the source code. The story will go that they got a source code, let's say, Android 4.0. Did this, this, this and that and here you go. Woohooo, look what I did. But what did they do? It wasn't really building if you look at it the right way, it's just, decoration. In the beginning you had to stack things, like boxes. one on top of the other. It's kinda like that. Or sideways. Remember the basics. Two core, four core, soon eight. It doesn't really matter when all it is, is some kind of partitioning. What is it all? 64 one way or another. But seperate the two is the first issue. The phones gonna be the phone regardless. Put a switch in for control. Then you're left with the other part to do as you wish. Run a whole different program, on top of the phone program. Eventually you're gonna reach the end of what the phone is capable of. That's a givenIt was remembering the days of TV/VCR repair and how a basic motherboard works. This part controls audio, this part controls video thing. Now you see it? It's the same in an Android isn't it, just smaller of course. And when it dawned on me that this was more than possible and everyone went the other way? Oh boy things are about to get silly around here at XDA. I'm most definately going to take a different look at this now. It wasn't a problem ten years ago once you got the hang of it to flash in a ROM. Everything I see now is. So what happened? Everyone went decorating I guess...

Riiiight chipsets are more about how many GHz the device may use which is usually around 1 to 1.65 GHZ, we want our devices fast. Manufactures? Well they just put the same stuff together in a different way. Drivers and mounts can be put together, same ol USB (with maybe different serials) and even sd card mounts. Really there's not much difference when you look at it as a whole. Refrence

[Q] CM11 Nightly: InCall volume question

Hello everybody,
so now this is my first posting.
I took an advantage on ebay to get me a near new I9000 for a low price. I was interested to see how Android smartphones
work, what is inside and how to customize.
In between time and after reading much about ROM's and Kernels and so on i decided to go for the CyanogenMod ROM by pawitp.
When i finally got my I9000 to my surprise it was already rooted and had a CM11 flavor onboard.
So i took the chance and made a backup and did a full wipe etc.. and got the latest Nightly (2014_04_22) and the gaaps up
and running quite nicely.
No problems so far.
Everything is fine except the in-call volume on the handset.
Speaker volume and headset volume seem quite o.k. and are manageable through DSP Manager .
However, the earpiece volume is maxed-out but still much lower than on my stock S3 mini, which was given to me by my employer.
Stock and beyond any rooting or so...understandable?
So i read a lot and tried various apps (one after the other) (Voodoo sound, Volume+ to name two) as recommended here.
No avail. Volume of the earpiece seems to be quite a different beast.
What i did not try, and hopefully will not have to, are Meltus Volume hacks or manipulating values by the service codes.
So, does anybody have an idea if the CM11 will get around this problem one day or the other?
I do not want to use another ROM nor do i feel i want another Kernel to mix with.
Perhaps this thread is obsolete, so please put me into the right direction if so.
Or, maybe someone who is allowed to do so can transport this Q into the ROM thread of pawitp.
Thank you all for you attention and have a nice day.

It might be the highest limit to the i9000 (It's an old phone, at least appreciate it for even running). However, I suggest you do change your ROM once, just to check if it is a problem with your ROM. If you do change, I suggest trying Paranoid Android or OmniROM. At times, the Kernel might also make a change. If again you do want to change your Kernel, I suggest Semaphore 3.4.3 or Mackay Kernel
Hit Thanks if I helped!

Thank you for the answer.
Sure: You are right it is an "old" phone.
And i appreciate the work of the volunteers to keep it up and running.
Hopefully i will find the time during the next days to follow your advice.
Maybe i will even try to go back to stock and check how the phone behaves in it's original environment.
At the moment i am puzzled by another problem. I miss FM radio so much.
Seems as if this feature is missing in a whole lot of ROMs because of massive changes of the "ekosystem" to put it in my words.
But this is not the thread for that. I have to read and learn a lot.
Again, thank you.

Frank

About the Radio thing, I think you can download another Radio app like this one. If that doesn't work, I'm guessing then Radio might be disabled in your ROM. Semaphore has the option of enabling or disabling FM Radio.

Yes.
I went back to the stable release CM10.2 .
Somewhere on the internet i found a free beta from Spirit2 and installed it just for a test.
It did not run smooth but i could grab FM and listen by speaker and headphones.
What made me nervous is the "speaker damage" disclaimer...
As for the in-call volume: With 10.2 it seems to be louder.
Headphones and speaker are fine but earpiece (or handset?) still is a bit quiet for to use in noisy environments.
But anyway. Before taking further action i test a while.
I want to use this phone as a private phone when i am on commissioning jobs. I often work at industrial sites and since i am not allowed
to make any private calls off my companies' S3 mini i thought it was a good idea to carry a relatively cheap and reliable smartphone
with me.
Besides the academical aspect to know what makes a smartphone work i want a useful and stable operating system without any bloatware.
I will keep in touch with the CM11 thread and from time to time check if they finally achieve a stable release.
Maybe a shoot a second SGS off ebay just to look after OMNI ROM as you suggested.
By now i will stay with the CM10.2 and see if it is stable.
And yes, i am going to root my wifes's Xperia Pro

That is a really nice ROM with a smooth feel and just as customizable as a an average user with passion for android can manage.

I need one cellphone for "productive use". Means that is has to work.
So to try something, and run the risk of having software or hardware problems for a few days, i need another device.
Plus it is nice to see how official CM11 and official OMNI CM11 compete.
At the moment i would say that OMNI is a little bit upfront. I am going to ask my son to put his SIM card to
it and try out and see if it is stable.

I have spent whole working day with this rom, I can say without doubt 10 x better than anything from miui, I take card payment using paypal Here via blutooth which has been hit and miss with miui as has bluetooth call reception. Had not 1 problem with CM. Where are all the posters gone? locked bootloaders? or given up waiting for a custom rom?
Will give it a try asap
Personally I'm enjoying Mokee which is also fabulous !
Way better than Miui, the customisation level is finally high
Battery life is good I can easily last a day and performances are excellent.
what gapps we use?

What exactly could you do with this ROM that you couldn't do with Miui?
Beside finding AOSP 1000% prettier than Miui there are TONS of function on Mokee.
You can pretty much customise everything, you get CM theme engine, best Xposed modules are available, better control over your kernel and overall you can set everything the way you want it to be which I didn't find possible on Miui.
This rom is fast and I am finding it fairly stable. 4G works and wifi stable (that was my issue with Mokee). Battery drain seems higher than Mokee. Improves significantly with airplane mode.
Bank apps problem
hi guys,
rom is really fast but I have problems with bank apps. I try to login and then I receive info "the device is not able to use this application"
This rom will update via OTA? Thanks for your work!!

volume controls on android supported headset doesn't work, pressing them navigates through the apps rather controlling the volume... appreciate a fix...
all else working so fine... great work and keep it up.
So this compare to mookee what the different? can someone explain? thanks
and does xposed work for this rom?

Is anyone fed up of the 3T

Hear me out. I think the phone is amazing. The software is crap, now the 5 is out the updates have already slowed. Not to mention OOS is always behind on security.
Now custom roms. I appreciate highly the work so many devs have been doing especially sultan, lineage and paranoid. But theres always something thats a bit off, camera especially, lag etc. Always end up going back to OOS then get bored again, try roms again.
Is there anyone else like me who has had enough of being a crack flasher or gets bored easily and has just had enough of trying to find perfection from a oneplus phone ?
What do you want to hear? Need a confirmation for yourself to get another phone to make the step a bit easier?
Yes, I hate the manner of OnePlus to not even fix a single thing, like the implementation of the Camera2 API. Sure, they lied to us more often than we want. But what company does the job better?
If you want to get a new phone: Fine. I'm also looking for a replacement. But I'm looking for phones for weeks or months, so I'm sure, the phone is good enough and beloved by devs. For me, no OP-device anymore. But really fed up? No.

I dont meed a confirmation from anyone. Ive made a topic for discussion. For instance i have a oneplus one as well ae my back up. There is more stable nougat roms on that, a 3 year old phone than there is on the newer higher spec 3t. Phones are getting ridiculous. What the hell is with these curved screens now so no tempered glass fits properly.
The next phone i get needs to be something that will have good support. Preferably from a company who releases camera sources
LAG on OP3T? wtf :0
I agree with you, I dont like OOS but i love custom roms and PA is perfect, its so smooth and optimized and their camera software is on par with OOS cam

Ive seen lag on pa rom when opening messages and settings and a few other things. It was minor but it bugged me a lot. The camera i didnt think was on par although its better than most roms. I didnt find the camera snappy enough either
Honestly stock is the best for this phone by far. Set it up right and its the fastest phone out there. Are you talking about screen lag or application lag?

Ah! I am defeateddddd! Pa had application lag. For instance it opens but messages would appear after lag and same with settings. Stock is better but i hate the delay in updates that dont fix basic bugs or update security.
My 2 cents; OOS continues to be good enough I don't even bother to unlock anymore. I was a Nexus fan for sure, but the 6P was my end of the line (yeah yeah, end of the line anyway). I had numerous issues and it finally got the bootloop problem that was plaguing many users. I got a used replacement, sold it and never looked back from the 3T. I tried most roms for the Nexus lines and while many were excellent, it was always something. When I got the 3T I decided to just leave it stock for a week and have not looked back. I get at least 2 days from it, it charges insanely fast, have had no lag/reboots/lockups, nothing. I would say I'm a fairly normal user except no social media really, privacy and all.
I keep a tab on what's new and as of today, nothing at all has tweaked my interest. Samsung/Motorola/HTC = never, too bloated. Pixel = too expensive.
I do feel the security updates are a bit slow and some additional OOS goodies would be nice, but for the price, for me it's hands down still the best phone.
Stock is the best rom, ftw

I hear you and agree with all of it. Problem with oneplus now is couple more years it will be on par with samsung pricewise. Then what? The bloated huawei honor line.
Sultans and PA are the best custom roms but they are not without their bugs.

Didn't we get like 2 betas already since the 5 is out? Also, custom roms have issues on EVERY phone. You won't find a phone where a custom rom works 100%.

3 betas since our last update. Because we are still testing for the 5. Tell me what beta features have come to stable?

I don't know and I don't care to be honest. The stable version of OOS is an inferior version of the beta at this point. The beta is 100% stable in my experience and offers more features than the stable one as you've said.

Or you could have just let it fade into obscurity instead of bumping it, since nobody posted to it for 8 months.

I got my OnePlus 3T for 15k INR (230USD) 3 days ago, Flashed Omni ROM 8.1. 20180311 build;

Installed Magisk v16.0 https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Installed AINUR AUDIO - SAURON MK II.II : https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/soundmod-ainur-audio-t3450516
Installed SKULSHADY's Google Camera 5.1.018 Mod v3 https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75693033&postcount=415
Installed YouTube Vanced https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/magisk-iytbp-youtube-vanced-t3712097
Installed Substratum and the Swift Black Theme https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers&hl=en
...and a bunch of other stuff, the ROM is stable for Oreo 8.1, and with the help of other mods, and for someone coming from OnePlus X the phone feels great.
Wlan signal quality is very bad with mine.
Noticeable in many games, when it is endlessly stucked until the it the signal gets through again.
With 4G there is 0 problems, it's only this weak Wlan module, it's getting on my nerve.

Oxygen os lies about signal strength.

Anyone there?

I'm still around, checking this forum from time to time. Looks like its all dead.
I wondered if there is anyone out there still using this phone daily, like me.
If there is anyone, please share your ROM info too. Which ROM is the best for your liking?
I'm still using X-Los13_p880-ufoFFICIAL-201904CVE--1c6ea70874 since 01-2020.
Yep. I'm still around, too. And checking from time to time, too.
But, in the last years all is going veeery silent. That's not surprising, i guess.
My 4X HD is already in daily use, too... and i am using X-Los13 201711 (last version with QR).
Alternative is AOSP Nougat 7.1.2 or CM13/MM 6.0.1 quite good (if you don't need QR).
But... i see, you already know that!
PS: My secret favorite was always SlimKAT 4.4.4 build 9 (after Rom, install the Cyodak-X3-Kernel (!)).

Wow! Thanks for the reply.
Devs were active at the peak of Kitkat era so our device has a wide variety of KitKat based roms. I've tried many rom+kernel combination back in the day. Now 4.4.4 become completely obsolete for me as some of my -must have- apps. forcing Android 5+.
I didn't try Slimkat 4.4.4 build 9 with Cyodak X3 though. I'll try it sometime for fun!
Latest CM13 is a performance monster. If I remember correct, it also has codec tweaks too. Allowing for better bitrate video recording and/or stereo sound on recorded videos. Main drawback is unstable.
AOSP 7.1.2 is the highest Android version available for our device but it's dull AOSP.
@oF2pks 's Linage is like a balanced medium. Performance is good and it's very stable for daily use. 30+ days runtime without rebooting is almost always possible.

Sorry for my very, very my late response.
Sometimes, i use my P880 vicarious for Navigation (or for Geo-Caching) and i had never problems with GPS.
Works fine for me.
I agree with you. But with X-LOS13 i noticed that when there are more and more apps on the smartphone, booting takes longer and longer (like 5 minutes) and also generally slows down. To counteract this, i've started sorting out apps that shouldn't be booted with a reboot (i.e. only run if you open them by yourself). With this I could e.g. reduce the boot time to 3 minutes. The disadvantage, however, it takes longer to start the app (because its not preset in RAM by booting).
PS: I loved SlimKat 4.4.4. Unfortunately, there are no new apps backwards compatible (SDK/API20).

I had to re-flash LOS13 several times from this reason too.
The last time however, I needed QR code so I flashed Euphoria 5.1.1 latest 20160208 and still using it.
Raised the max. CPU freq. to 1700 too. No signs of slow down yet.
Hi! Good to see some activity!
I want to repair my old LG. The screen and touch are trashed and the battery is puffed. I found an almost free screen with LCD and battery and I'll repair it.
I remember I tried so many ROMs in this phone... The best performer was the Mourta's 4.4.4, but the battery consuption was bad. I ended up flashing the stock firmware 4.1.2, but it was still usable back in the day. Today is useless.
Just booted my P880
