Any good 3rd party TGSPs yet? - OnePlus 5T Accessories

I just got the notification that the official TGSP is back in stock. However, The thing is gonna cost me $45 CAD shipped. I would have bought it with the phone had it been available but' I'm not paying full price + shipping + tax.
Oh ya, it's also a 2 week wait for shipping.
Has anyone tried out a 3rd party one that they like and can recommend?

Go with the official one. The aftermarket ones will probably not have adhesive over the whole thing and will give you a word rainbow and cause issues with touch sensitivity

The official one is great. Super easy to apply using the case that comes with it as a template. It may be expensive but you won't have to spend 15 bucks 5 times to find a good one.

Good point

The official one is garbage ! OMG.
Have it on my OP5T since 4 days.
I lost a lot of my screen sensitivity
some kind of blur on the screen. Not oil but blurry on a white screen.
A little pressur on the case and the screen came off...
Total garbage. looking for something else.

Not my experience at all. The official is the best one available. Maybe you got a knockoff or a third party one. Or problems during installation

The official one is kind of crap, very noticeable grain effect.

I've currently got an Auckley fitted https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0779WYK2R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
It doesn't have adhesive over the entire screen area (frame only) and does have a very slight dot matrix which is visible in strong light with the screen off.
However, it was really easy to apply. There is zero oil slick effect and with the screen on you cant see the dot matrix. It is also compatible with the supplied TPU bumper case, the official flip cover and the karbon shell. I have the karbon bumper on order but I don't expect that to be an issue either.
Generally speaking, I think we are going to have an easier time with TGSP with the 5T compared to the 5.

I can contest to this, not worth the buy at all

Ordering the sandstone case today and I'm gonna get the bundle that includes the TGSP. Reviews seem mixed but generally positive. I'm 100% certain it's the best CURRENT option. When I inevitably break this one hopefully there are more quality options available that won't cost me $45.

The official one is far, far from the best CURRENT option. Check out Amazon for a ton of different ones which are better. Don't buy the official screen protector, it's overpriced and completely awful.

Price is normal compared to my home country, little cheaper than usual and it has glue on middle of glass, not just on edges as many from Amazon or Aliexpress /Ebay has.

Yep, I heard these are junk. Boxwave posted their entire stock of accessories discounted on Slickdeals website. There are hardly any reviews about these screen protectors, and whatever they have on Amazon is rated low.

I went through half a dozen of cheap ebay screen protectors from different sellers hoping I will find that diamond in the rough Didn't happen. I even tried premium ones, like Spigen. Now, I'm on iSmooth and appreciate it more No matter how many reviews you read/watch, you make the final call on what you like!
I think a diamond in the rough is tech armor. I really like it and Recco it. I an a sucker for good deals on screen protectors though.

So, if you found tech armor to be the best, why do you continue searching for other ones, and I assume testing them out? I'm in kind of in a same boat, went through a bunch where some were too thin, others too thick, some left s-pen marks, others had annoying rainbow effect, and some didn't stick as well. Now, I settled on iSmooth and don't want to remove and reapply anything else. Even with my last "final" install I didn't clean up phone screen 100% and probably left a tiny area around home button oily where I see sp didn't make a good contact (my fault). But I just don't want to rip it off, clean the phone and re-apply it again. I too love good deals, but don't want to keep reapplying new sp. Now, got UAG case on order and that one comes with its own screen protector which some say is a good quality. Plus, Scott/JLG mentioned in another thread he will be coming up with dry install sp... It never stops lol!!!
I like screen protectors. Cell phones and screen protectors are my hobbies. My favorite one that requires soap water is phantomskinz and I have tried them all. I just got into these dry installs a I am very impressed. I like to test them out and I keep going back to tech armor
one quick question, does this sp cover the whole phone, or leave a few sections such as top or bottom.
alas...the code is no more..
There was a problem

How's that working out for you on the Flex? I was concerned that the screen on the Flex would be softer than a non flexible screen making it more probe to scratches and swirls.

Have you emailed any of the company's and asked if they're making a glass screen protector for the Flex? You could put the email in here maybe so we all can pester them. lol I've never had one but my friend loves them too.
I contacted Nilkin, a Japanese company who made one for the one max, but haven't heard back yet.
I am not sure that anyone can/will make one, since it might be really difficult to get glass to adhere to a curved screen..

Ok. That makes sense. lol Darn. Thanks
I think its still too early to assume there wont be any. What most of these accessory companies do now, is wait and see how popular a new phone becomes, before they bother to make anything for it.
Assuming this phone becomes really popular in the next month or so, I think there will be alot more "stuff" for it.
Its really only been out a month or so in the USA..
I'm kind of surprised what's out in stores already. I remember some stores wouldn't get cases for a month after the phone was out.
I got a Skinomi screen guard from Amazon. It Is the nicest protector I've ever used (and I've tried a lot of them). Crystal clear and virtually no orange peel effect. I only bought the screen protector as I'm using a case. I can definitely believe that the corners would peel up on a full body protector. I've experienced that every time I ever used one of those. It was fairly easy to install but try do it somewhere where there's no dust as these are very staticy and instantly attract dust, pet hair, etc. ( I put mine on in the bathroom ) Skinomi's website had a link for a YouTube video with installation instructions.

From Orzly customer service:
Thank you for your e-mail. I can confirm that whilst it is true that we are due to receive a revised version of our existing Black 2.5D Pro-Fit OnePlus 3 screen protector we still haven't had any stock delivered.
I am hopeful we will receive a delivery within the next couple of weeks. Once these come in all relevant listings will be changed in order to reflect that the 2.5D screen protector has been changed.
I think I may buy one of these... The nillkin H+ Pro is garbage, it has left 2 stripes of air on both edges, and they make the front screen pretty ugly. However, screen visibility, colour reproduction etc is very good.
The important question here is whether it has glue on the middle like the official OnePlus curved TG.

I have asked from them last week and they said that revision isnt just ready yet, about 1-2 weeks and all listings (official site, Ebay, Amazon) will be updated. But we need also remember that there is also 3rd party sellers which may have old stock still. But i'm gonna order from Amazon.co.uk when they have relisted revision version.
I just put one of these protectors on my phone. I gotta say that I'm pretty impressed. Went on easy, no rainbow halo, dots not visible when the screen is on, and it works with my Orzly Grip Pro. I DID have to be a little more careful when I put the case on, but it otherwise was as simple and pain-free as it could be. I'm pretty happy with the results so far.
**edit**
At work, under florescent lights, i see the halo. I also see the dots and I sure as hell see the fingerprints. Still no issues with the edges lifting or anything. Meh, its really no worse than the OEM protector it came with.

OnePlus 5T Official Tempered Glass Screen Protector Review

Hi folk,
With another OnePlus product comes another OnePlus attempt at making a tempered glass screen protector which works for it. Will it be this time that is the magic attempt?
If you dont want to or can't watch the video here are my thoughts:
Yes, they seem to have finally made a tempered glass which fits perfectly on the screen without much cut off. I say much as I think there is still a tiny cut off, but it's nowhere near as noticeable as it was on the 3/3t or 5. If you want to take a look, its on the video at around the 4:04 mark.
The quality is excellent, you can barely feel or see that it's there. There are no sharp edges as the screen tapers off at the edge. It's a full glue screen protector so there is no dot matrix or rainbox effects. You do however have to be fairly careful whilst applying it and taking it off its bed as it feels like it could snap fairly easy if you rush it.
Pros:
Good fit
Feels premium
No dot matrix
No rainbox effect
Cons:
Pricey
Could break easily whilst installing
On the pricey mark, if OP have managed to make this perfect this time, I'd expect third party manufacturers to release a similar product soon at a cheaper price. So if you want to wait and do that I wouldn't blame you.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Jono
Thanks for that, good to know as I ordered one with my 5T.
Hopefully there is a decent bunch of 3rd party ones too.
A spigen tempered glass is my all time favorite screen guard.

Thanks for this. I wanted to know how much it will cut of the screen but its much lesser than earlier.
But i need to disagree something with you. You (and many others) said it was issue etc. on OP3/3T/5 what last TGSP cutted off screen. Well it wasnt really issue or fault on Oneplus side. They needed to choose to have adhesives only on sides and no cut-off or adhesives on fully but had to cut-off. That was because of OP3/3T/5 front glass design where glass started ro bend (2.5D) earlier than usual. Thats why black borders was bigger as otherwise you would get ugly halo's and nobody likes that.
About price. Dont know where you leave but here in Finland 20€ price is nearly cheapest TGSP avaible here. Usually TGSP's here costs around 25-50€ depending of phone model so 20€ is more than just normal price for us. So okay maybe its little pricey compared ro your country but on many others it isnt.
This is my first OP device so I know nothing about past issues, but this is by far the best fitting, best sealing TGSP I have ever installed. Typically with screen protectors the edges do not want to seal/stick but the squeegee made quick work of getting all the bubbles out. There are a few pieces of inevitable lint but not one single bubble.
It does cut a tiny bit of the screen off which gives a weird depth to the screens appearance so for that I give it 9/10. If it was totally clear or just had the black at the top and bottom it would be 10/10 for sure.

I just removed the protector to see how the screen looks naked. The "grainy-ness" is gone. I also noticed a potential problem with the protector. The adhesive doesn't go all the way to the top or bottom of the protector, so when I removed it I found a lot of dust stuck to the top and bottom bezel of the phone. This could cause scratches. Even though the scratches would not be on the display, I don't want scratches anywhere on the glass. If I keep this phone I'll try an IQshield.
With the bubbles settling behind, a lot of little dust has been captured.
I also notice grainy-ness. I'm likely going to ditch it and just go naked...
I just got my for 10€. And yes, it still crops a bit from both sides but not like OP3/3T/5. And yes, there is grainy-ness as stated above. You cant notice on black background but on white yes.
I bought the '5T full scratch protection' bundle with my phone. I have an unopened "3D Tempered Glass Screen Protector" and an opened (but unused) "Sandstone Protective Case". My plan was going to be to use the case until Spigen comes out with a 5T case, but I just decided to rock the case that came with my 5T instead.

To be frank I wouldn't have noticed the grainy screen till I read your comment. But now that I've read it.... The screen protector does induce the grainy effect. It's a perfect fit imho, though it definitely does give out that grainy effect. I'm guessing I'll stop noticing it in a couple of days time.
I had an extra IQshield (wet apply) protector for a Pixel 2 XL. I cut a little off the top and it fit fine. I must say, the IQshield is very clear, no grainy screen for me.
I have to put my 2 cents in on this. The official tempered glass is pretty great. I had no issue installing, it stayed in place, zero bubble at all, and feels great. using it with the official sandstone case.

Okay guys that might sound silly but when I pay double the price of regular screen protector I want at least same performance. My screen protector cracked on it's own. Less then a month of careful use and that's what happened.

Sure, but when you pay premium price you expect premium quality ?
That's indeed disappointing and kind of wished I did research before ordering now. The packaging mentions that a case is recommended in addition to the protector because the "edges are fragile". I feel like they wouldn't mention it if it's not a known problem. I have a case so maybe I'll fair better but why make a fragile screen protector in the first place? What's the point? Okay guys that might sound silly but when I pay double the price of regular screen protector I want at least same performance. My screen protector cracked on it's own. Less then a month of careful use and that's what happened.
I'm waiting for a replacement, but curious if anyone had the same issue.

You can always try the Nano Liquid Screen Protector bro. It's kinda great actually. I have applied it in front and back of my Phone 2. So far so good, though it didn't stop me from denting the speaker grills. Hahaha.
I bought the Orzly protectors and haven't had any trouble with mine.
