H81120x OTA update out. Has anyone still using stock updated to this version? - T-Mobile LG G4

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-28979
Pushed out December 5th, H81120x, just over 79MB, described as "Google monthly security enhancements".
I've forgotten where OTA update files are downloaded too. Can anyone refresh my memory?
Thanks!

This is good to know. Any idea if I need to be worried about the phone being rooted\xposed? This is my first Android device in many years and can't remember how to handle OTAs.

I just checked and no updates yet. Maybe Xposed and magisk are messing with it.

Is there a way to install it with TWRP installed? I got it and the phone rebooted but only to TWRP.

I think since the H811 has an unlocked bootloader the easiest way is going to be flashing the stock recovery through TWRP, reboot, install the OTA, and then fastboot back into TWRP and reinstall it. (Unless it keeps root through Magisk or something and then you can just use the TWRP app rooted to reinstall)

few days after updated, software version changed into H81120x, my camera suddenly and always crashed and getting hot not like usual. please help me fixing this problem

I'm not rooted so no worries. Its there a stock recovery image somewhere or do i need to extract one from the 20v kdz

So is there a directory where the OTA is downloaded to? I have the KDZ for 20v but I can't get a valid cab file to extract the DZ when I use LGExtractor (this is when I'm trying to extract the stock recovery.img).

Update file
Here is the update file for 20x, i extracted it from the /cache directory. I tried to flash it via TWRP but there is some ID checker that errors out and fails to install on TWRP

THIS MIGHT FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE. BE SURE YOU ARE OKAY WITH THAT.
1: make sure you've enabled Developer Options in settings (go to About Phone, tap the Build Number a bunch until it pops up saying you've enabled developer options.
2: Make sure you've enabled bootloader unlock in Developer options
3: make sure your device's ADB drivers are installed. The phone comes with the resource CD built in, so you can always use that to make sure it is set up
4: run ADB on your computer, type adb reboot fastboot to get into fastboot mode. The phone should reboot. If it does not, recheck steps 1, 2, and 3.
5: type "fastboot oem unlock". This it should report it as OK or Success. If so, type fastboot reboot. It may or may not factory reset your phone at this point. It didn't with mine but YMMV.
6: once Android has booted, follow the steps to install TWRP. Same steps as above but you'll be booting a TWRP image instead and then flashing it.

No problem here, try to reset the phone or at least clear the cache of camera.

So my phone finally presented me with the OTA, but it fails to install because of TWRP (expected). I grabbed the update.zip and did the basic modification to allow me to flash it via TWRP but it still fails. LG Bridge doesn't get past checking software version. I am running stock, rooted with Magisk, RCTD removed and some minor root-free debloat (The "uninstall apps for user 0" trick)
What LG OEM apps are required to get LG Bridge to work?
Edit: Could I dirty flash a full stock ROM over it (including stock recovery) to get the OTA to work and then just debloat again?)

Does the KDZ file only come from LG? I wonder if I can update and then somehow extract KDZ to share with everyone...

[Q] Error while installing 5.0.1 update

Hi I just got the 5.0.1 update, I downloaded it and the phone rebooted itself, I got the installation screen and after 5 seconds I just got the word "error" and I had to restart it manually; the device is rooted, have anyone else had this problem? I would appreciate your help

With lollipop you can't take an OTA if you are rooted or running just about anything else modified (custom kernels, like ones that have force decrypt disabled also will cause it to error out).
You can still flash it manually by flashing the images. If you don't want to wipe, don't flash the userdata.img . Also, if you aren't currently encrypted, booting up with the stock kernel will force encrypt your device, so don't flash that if you want to stay that way. You can then re-root. There are more in depth instructions for doing this out there if you search around for them.
My Nexus 6 took 5.0.1 just fine, but my Nexus 7 does this same thing, running stock ROM/Bootloader/Recovery/etc. The ONLY thing done to it is the Fastboot OEM unlock, but I doubt that alone would stop it. I'm curious to know what resolves this ( other than downloading the factory image and flashing it without wiping the userdata )
Just got same error. I didnt even root phone, bought it today, it installed apps from backup of my previous Nexus 4 and OTA is failing.

So basically the only way is to flash the image manually? If I choose not to flash userdata.img my phone data (photos, contacts, apps, etc) won't be erased right? But I will lose root correct? Thanks!

Correct, with Lollipop if you modify things you basically are then forced to manually take the updates. Not that big of a deal as you would likely be needing a PC to reinstall your custom recovery or re-root anyhow after the update.
Flashing userdata.img isn't necessary to update. Neither is recovery.img if you want to keep a custom recovery.
Also as I mentioned before, if you have disabled encryption on your device, if you flash the stock kernel (boot.img) and boot up with it you will re-enable forced encryption. You will need to flash a kernel with force encryption disabled if you want to keep running without encryption. If you haven't disabled encryption, or don't care if your device re-encrypts (this doesn't erase anything, just may take a few minutes on first boot) then this doesn't matter.

Can I manually update without removing root first? Am I going to receive an error if I don't remove it? based on what you said, I will remove userdata.img and recovery.img and that will not wipe my data right? Do I have to decompress those files or the flash-all.bat will take care of that? Thanks!

I'm interested as well. Mine is rooted and I have encryption disabled, and I have TWRP on my phone. I tried to sideload the OTA update, but I can't get my phone to start sideload. I even flashed the stock recovery to get it to go, and no dice. What do I do next?
Anyone? I would appreciate the feedback, thanks!
sideload refers to adb as I understand it. thats NOT how you flash....you use fastboot to flash so you can do it all by hand or use one of the toolkits that script it for you.

If your doing from the PC you need to extract the zip file from within the image and then fastboot them. As for root, when you do it from fastboot I dont believe it matters as you will lose root anyway and need to re-root via flashing SuperSU.zip
Worked great! Thanks! Android 5.0.1 and root, no data deleted
Is it normal to not have received an update beyond 5.0? I have had a Nexus 6 since day one, no rooting of any kind and I have not received 5.0.1.
I have done the sideload method, but I really don't want to bother with it. I do however want some of these terrible bugs I am experiencing squashed. This phone is giving me lots of issues lately.
Thanks!
Can you receive and install OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader? Everything else is stock, no disabled encryption or anything just unlocked bootloader.

If you're planning to stay rooted (meaning no OTA in future) system.img, boot.img and radio.img in any order.

If you use fastboot, just run these commands in terminal (I used windows, so in order to flash using fastboot, put the image that you downloaded for the update in the same folder where you have fastboot and open a terminal there) you can rename the .img files to whatever you like and replace those name in the commands below:
fastboot flash bootloader <bootloader file name here>.img
fastboot flash radio <radio file name here>.img
Then reboot it:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then flash these:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
And that's it. These commands are run while the phone is connected to the PC, you have to turn it on by pressing volume up + volume down + power.
Good luck.

bootloop. & bootloader is locked. And I do not have usb debugging enabled. Any way to get around this?
Depends... You're quite sparse with information about what you've done to get to where you are and about your setup.
A few options come to mind. If you have TWRP you can try flashing a custom rom zip and that could fix it. You could also try the special N preview OTA that google provided to fix phones that got screwed up by an N OTA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/to-save-bricked-nexus-device-t3334660
Yeah sorry about that. While updating to 6.0 the phone died. And is now stuck in a bootloop (stuck at the google logo screen). I was trying to use nexus root toolkit to flash stuck android back onto it, however my bootloader is locked. And I did not have usb debugging enabled either. So I am trying to find a way to unlock my bootloader. If that makes any sense
Use the second method I suggested. Should work.
Can you get in bootloader or recovery mode?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/to-save-bricked-nexus-device-t3334660
Try to sideload shamu-ota-npc91k-201dd8d1.zip. (This upgrades to Android N Preview.)
Since the OTA is a complete image, it should restore the device to working condition. Then you should be able to enable USB debugging and OEM unlock so the bootloader can be unlocked through fastboot.
Sorry for the late replies. I am attempting the second method & I am able to boot into recovery mode. However I keep getting "adb server is out of date" so I am trying to work it out at the moment
This worked for me! Locked bootloader, no usb debugging, no custom recovery, stuck in bootloop due to software issues.

well, instructions, probably not. if its a flashable zip, that means that you can use twrp recovery to flash it. fastboot flashing has to be done while youre in the bootloader, using fastboot. the command is.. fastboot flash bootloader zipname.img

well, being a noobie, use google to find out about twrp recovery and about fastboot flashing. fastboot flashing would be more important to you, as twrp recovery use is simple when you already have it installed. unfortunately, im at work at the moment, so cant really help out to much.

[GUIDE] Marshmallow Root Guide for ZE500KL

ATTENTION!
You MUST read all the guide BEFORE doing it, if you do it without reading all of it first you may ends up bricking your phone!
Prerequisites:
Asus ZE500KL (may work on ZE500KG, but haven't tested, do it on your own risk) on Marshmallow, NOT LOLLIPOP!
Also, it must have fully booted AT LEAST one time, otherwise, you'll soft-brick it.
If your phone is not on Marshmallow, you can use THIS guide insteadDownload and put the unlocker zip file and the SuperSu zip file in the phone
How To:
1 - Install adb and fastboot driver (follow THIS guide)
Now you can connect the phone to your computer2 - Reboot in fastboot mode with one of the following method:
a -Volume Up while booting upb -With adb, after enabling USB debugging in developer settings, using:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Now that you are in bootloader, you have to boot in TWRP,
download THIS recovery (is the twrp one) and boot in to it, using this command:
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
Code:
fastboot boot TWRP-x-x-x-x.img
(Obviusly the recovery name must be the one you downloaded)
IMPORTANT: DON'T FLASH IT OR YOU WILL GET BOOTLOOP!!!
It should automaticaly enter in recovery.
Now you MUST flash FIRST ZE500KL_BootloaderUnlock.zip, otherwise you'll brick your phone
Btw, the recovery will mount your phone's memory, so you can put now the files in the phone, if you forgot to do it before
AFTER you installed the unlocker zip, you can install the SuperSu zip
When the install is complete, clear the cache and reboot your phone, now you can enjoy your root!

Is it me or everytime I reboot the device after rooted, it's going back to unrooted?
Root is a success tho, great job, OP!
Edit: okay, not every reboot, but after several reboots, then it went back unrooted

Currently rooted on 20i MM, what do I need to do if I want to update? (with root)

Hey XDA,
I'm currently rooted on T-Mobile's H811 version 20i. I just got the stupid update notification and I'd like to get rid of it (by updating to the latest version, and root the phone + install a custom ROM).
I can backup most of my data through Google and all my pictures are on my SD card, so I dont have to worry about losing data through the upgrade.
What steps do I need to take to:
• Update my G4 to the latest version + root
• (dont delete my photos from my SD card)
I'm afraid I'll brick my G4, since I almost brick it the last time I rooted my G4.
Thank you!
You still get over the air update even if your rooted. If you custom recovery it, you will no longer get over the air update from tmobile. Its a good thing i flash my stuff using twrp manager.

Once rooted you will always be rooted unless you delete the root files. For every new version of android comes out, there need to be new method to root your phone. But since you've rooted, you will keep the root even if you updated to new android version. Even factory reset cant get rid of root. you cant get rid of it updating to new version of android. (correct me if im wrong)

Mine is rooted and unlocked on 20i. I flashed TWRP 2.8.7.2. I did remove a couple OEM apps that were a bit annoying. I back-up the 3 suggested partitions, system, boot, data.
Can I update to the OTA using just TWRP or adb/fastboot without screwing the pouch?
Or do I need to take a different route to the OTA?

if you do youll get camear and sound problems... the best way its to start fresh..
download LGUP and h811 20o KDZ. the flash using refurbished this will wipe everything.. then install twrp and root..
I really find LG way more annoying than HTC ever was. This should be a simple process.
Finally got LGUP working on Virtual Box 5.026 running W7, from Mavericks OSX. But it took some doing to get the 20o update in.
Had to add Guest additions to VB in order to enable USB 2 control, so VB would see the LG.
And the proper LG Mobile drivers v4.04.exe.
A restart or 2 of the Mac.
Then ran LGUP, changed the browse extension to .kdz and navigated to the H81120o_00_0613.kdz.
LGUP ran and the G4 restarted a few times over about 5 mins or so.
Can't get twrp flashed.
I get this error: FAILED (remote: unknown command).
So I disregarded and tried fastboot boot twrp-2.img.
File not found.
Ideas?
this from Macs Terminal app or I suppose the equal in Doze 7.
Terminal:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot (drag and drop the twrpxxx.img into the Terminal window)
This will boot you into a "temp" TWRP recovery. Install twrp.img (select .img button bottom right)
Then install SuperSu 2.6.7.zip.

Question Stuck in fastboot after trying to install PixelExperience :(

Hey everyone
I recently got this phone and went through the bootloader unlock process.
I then tried to follow the instructions on this page https://wiki.pixelexperience.org/devices/rosemary/install/ to get this rom installed but somehow ****ed it up.
Everything went well until I tried to flash the recovery img from this page: https://get.pixelexperience.org/rosemary (i downloaded the 13 plus recovery img).
I flashed the img via fastboot but after that I got stuck in fastboot. The phone is stuck in a bootloop when I try to reboot into recovery or normal boot. The only thing I can get back into is fastboot.
Would really appreciate any help to get the phone working again. Im not new to android custom roms but Im new to xiaomi phones and Im a little lost
Thanks.
OK nevermind I successfully got the phone booting again with miflash tool by reflashing an official firmware...
Greetings!
You can install the rom via adb sideload too. Put on some random recovery (see my tutorial here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/twrp-on-android-12.4522273/), and start adb sideload.
Then,
adb sideload insert_package_name.zip

Greetings!
As this phone has an MTK processor, we don't really have a recovery image, it's stored in the boot img I suppose. That link, you can download the official rom to this. DISCLAIMER: There are two types of ROMs listed here, one type is fastboot, that you need now in order to flash it through a computer for example. The another type is the recovery rom, that you can flash from recovery like a magisk package, or anything flashable zip, or with adb sideload.
https://mifirm.net
You should choose global if you are in Europe, but it's suitable for devices in the US or USA probably, ony feature differences are here between an EEA and Global rom.
Also, if you install pixel experience recovery, you can install the firmware by going into recovery, and do it via sideload. Or, you can try flashing the rom with TWRP (tutorial linked below), but then you won't able to install updates automatically.
One question: Did you checked in OEM unlocking in developer options before flashed PE?
Hope it helps!
Yeah, I did checked the oem unlocking. I think the reason why i failed because my bootloader probably updated and I forgot to check. You need bootloader version 12.5.16.0.RKLMIXM to install the pixel experience. Also thank for help
Greetings!
You can install the rom via adb sideload too. Put on some random recovery (see my tutorial here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/members/gurtnyi.11842195), and start adb sideload.

Can I do that on newer firmware or should I roll back to version 12.5.16.0.RKLMIXM? And if I roll back then I need to unlock device again?
I think you can. I've flashed it successfully on the latest version too. Currently I don't use PE but it was good for me.
Well, regarding to the unlock, it's not a big deal, you don't have to wait 168h again, once you've firstly unlocked your device, you can re-unlock it again, and again, no matter how many times, you don't have to wait a lot again.
But depending on how you rollback it,
I mean, with xiaomi flasher (i think that's its name) you can choose between clean all and lock, save userdata, and clean all, but in the first case, it'll lock back the bootloader. With SP flash tool (if you need, I can provide a link for the modified version of it, that doesn't require an auth file, but if fails, you need a python script, I can link that too), as I remember it won't lock back the device, but I'm not a 100% sure
Hope it helps!

Corrected, thank you!
Thank you! I managed to install PE by rolling back to MIUI 12.5. Sideload unfortunatly not working on stock recovery.

Happy to hear that!
By the way, yes, pe recovery is better for sideloading, or eventually any not stock recovery. Also, if you install PE recovery, you can apply updates automatically, and in the future you won't need to flash it manually.
