Has root been achieved with note8? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I see a lot of root mods targeted at the note8 but no guides on it. Am I blind?

I thought the sprint variant only came with the Exynos CPU? That root exploit is for snapdragon.

You are incorrect. U.S. variants are snapdragon only. Exynos is for outside U.S.

SM-T705 vs. SM-T707?

Sorry if this has been asked earlier, but I was unable to search and find anything regarding the following information - so here it goes:
I've seen several posts on xda mentioning a -807 (vs the -805 we have in Sweden atm) and I'm wondering what the difference between these two models are. I assume the -807 has LTE as well as a new processor, no?
Also, is there a -707 model on the way as well? In that case, I'm going for it!
I have no idea about the 707 and T807s. What I can tell you is that the T705 and T805 both have roms and root for the tablets. I havent seen any roms for 707 of any sort. So most likly, you are going to see more development for the T805 and T705 and root for those also. There is no root for T707 or t807 and migjt have locked bootloaders i think.
If I'm not mistaken the x07 models are some special AT&T models or something...

the ATT model per oldblue910 I think does not have call app (cannot make calls..data access but no calling capability)
I believe T707 is a modified T705 with the calling/texting apps removed. T807 is probably similar.
There are sub-models like T707A (AT&T) and T807V (Verizon). I think the Verizon and Sprint models have a Snapdragon processor
T807x and T707x have a Snapdragon and LTE. The x indicates carrier customizations for USA carriers (mobile phone functions removed for sure, some may even have specific LTE bands). The T805 and 705 have an Exynos and LTE, and the T800 and T700 have an Exynos without LTE.
Does anyone know if it's safe to flash the T705 stock firmware on the ATT T707 variant using Odin? I recall doing this on the original Galaxy Tab and the Euro firmware enabled the dialer for calling. Using mine on T-Mobile and would love to remove the ATT bloat.
Sorry if his is redundant, I could not find anything on Google.
I have the t807p which is the sprint model with snapdragon processor. I make calls to and from it all the time as it came with its own phone number from sprint.
The AT&T x07 models use a Exynos CPU not Snapdragon.
I returned mine.
Snapdragon is much better and lots of development in custom roms

Note 8 Unlocked bootloader with Snapdragon

I've read that Snapdragon 835 performs better in the Note8 than the Exynos chip so I'm interested in getting Snapdragon... so long as it has an unlocked bootloader.
I know for the regular S8 phones you can get the Hong Kong edition that comes with the 835 and an unlocked bootloader... does anyone know if that's still the case with the Note8?

The Exynos chip outperforms the snapdragon is most situations
And hear we go...... 1st I like snapdragon it been good for me and it has cdma and gsm Abilities. Exynos don't but don't quote me on that. Yes exynos have unlock bootloader and snapdragon dont... It is not Samsung's fault is the Carrier's fault.. You see if the bootloader and was on unlock, you could take your note phone to any carrier you want to. So the carrier would lose money a lot... It just there to keep you in the loop .. but please let's Answer this man's question

Generally true but in this case the Snapdragon slightly edges the Exynos in performance (benchmarks) but Exynos showing better efficiency.
They are very close though, not something anyone would be able to notice.
To answer the question I doubt we will see a Snapdragon unlock but I certainly hope so.

Hi, sorry but you're wrong. In my country (Algeria) all band it's cdma and all Samsung (like s8 or note 8) have exynos and work like a charm. I speak about original Samsung house. And of course I have the note 8 exynos and for me it's better than snapdragon... So exynos it's compatible with gsm and cdma

I had an unlocked Int'l exynos Note 5 and it worked on At&t gsm phone. I'm currently using the Note 8 snapdragon unlocked version on At&t. I can use this phone on any carrier in the US. Unlocked doesn't mean the bootloader is unlocked. The unlocked snapdragon Note 8 bootloader is locked and that maybe at the demand of the US major carriers..... not sure.
Performance Comparison
Here is the link comparting 835 to the 8895:
anandtech.com/show/11540/samsung-galaxy-s8-exynos-versus-snapdragon
It’s only when running system-level tests such as PCMark, which runs more realistic workloads that use standard Android API calls, where these effects become evident and where we see a noticeable difference in performance between the two S8 models. The S835 S8 performs almost 30% better than the E8895 model overall in PCMark, with a 49% advantage in the Writing test where thread migration between the little and big clusters plays a prominent role.
...If you’re upgrading from a previous Android or Galaxy phone, especially one that predates the S7, the Galaxy S8’s performance and battery life will not disappoint, no matter which SoC is used. Between these two, however, across all of the tests I've run, the S835 model is certainly the better of the two in terms of those metrics.
If anyone knows about the bootloaders of the Hong Kong model, please let me know!

If the carriers were the principal then the unbranded variant of the Snapdragon note 8 wouldn't be locked.
It's not the carriers, it's Qualcomm.
Not to detract from our current root, but is there anything that we can do as far as development towards unlocking our bootloader or are we basically just waiting (hoping) for a devleak? Sorry for my ignorance I haven't been following xda as much these days

It should in theory as the snap has the modem which works on cdma where exynos does not.
There may be twrp for it and maybe a rom or two so not a total loss like the locked snaps.
Exynos works on Tmo but it is missing a band or two if memory serves me so you may not get 100% coverage or full speed LTE in all areas

Since you seem to be the guru on all these different versions and samsung in general. My question is can you enable/unlock (don't know the correct term) bands? I ask because the LA version will work for verizon it has cdma, bands 2 and 4 but is missing 13. Sorry if these are dumb questions I've never messed with Samsung stuff before. I imagine I'll have fun learning odin I regularly fight with adb . Thanks for any help
Im certainly no guru just have owned alot of sammy devices lol.
If a modem is capable of the band in question i the past it has been possible to unlock it to allow for reception. You would need root for this and there was another tool we used years ago QPST....not even sure if it works on current devices though.
If the modem isnt capable like exynos for example has no support for cdma then nothing can be done.

Here are the Model Numbers, Country of Manufacturer, Chipsets and Carriers. Haven't seen the different 128 Gb and 512 Gb with unlocked bootloader- Global (Exynos) and Hong Kong (Snapdragon) designations. In the past Samsung would number SM-*9600 as the base model and SM-*9650 as the premium model.

https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9-sm-n960-model-number-differences/
Also I haven't seen the 512 GB version on ebay yet and a number of carriers in the US have sold out preorders for the 512 Gb model.
I was told by AT&T that they will unlock the Note 9 for me after 2 months of service (no charge). Will I be able to use their model to install TWRP?

The 512 Gb? Only place I've seen them for sale is on Samsung's site.

Root, Snapdragons and Exynos.

Hello All.
I hope this thread will help myself and others in a similar situation.
I went to extreme lengths and procured myself a N950N (SK Telekom Version) to be able to have TWRP and root and all that good stuff.
Problem was using that device on T-Mobile USA left me handicapped in terms of cell quality, LTE speeds etc.
I wasn't the only one either, a lot of folks who bought the F or N versions weren't getting the same Carrier Aggregation combinations or band\frequency usage that the US versions were accustomed to.
Should we expect the same moving forward with the Note 9 Exynos version?
If so, then the obvious inquiry will be related towards snapdragon -, it was months before samfail ever hit SD835 samsung devices, and even then it was handicapped until 10 months after release where it got slightly better.
IS the situation going to remain the same ? What are the developments on the S9\s9+ snapdragon in that aspect?
Just trying to make the right decisions as root is non negotiable for me... and i'm certain it is for many others..
and most importantly, will we have the OEM unlock issue if we buy the int'l model?

I purchased my S8, Note 8 and S9 Plus from CLOVE in the UK - (the F varient) and I NEVER had OEM Unlock issues in any of those devices. Never. I purchsed my Note 9 from CLove on the 9th - and look forward to getting it when it ships later this month.
To be honest, I don't know why some people have OEM Unlock issues for devices they buy on EBAR or other places and why I never have for the Samsung Devices I purchased at CLOVE - but it's enough that I will always buy new Samsung phones from CLOVE to help avoid having to deal with that.

Do you have link for the note 9 snapdragon unlocked?
Also, i doubt rom support will exist... or anything at all so what would be the point ? lol

That same site has the unlocked snap also! They sell both so you can pick your poison. The N9600 is the snap you want

Will there ever be OEM unlock on snapdragon chips?

I want to root my s20 Fe, it is the snapdragon model. Is it possible to ever unlock the OEM? And is there a place where people are working on this? I don't think I'm going to get a Samsung phone in the future if I can't root it.
It's not about the phone being Snapdragon or Exynos, both are unlockable and rootable. Phones in the US are bootloader-locked because US lacks consumer protection laws.

Is this also apple on US unlocked carrier variant?
Also wondering if this will ever happen.
If its the non-us variant then yes, we already have OEM unlock - see the S20FE section of the forum.
