Currently on Verizon and Thinking of switching to ATT as I just moved to San Marcos area and my reception here is literally one or two bars most places I frequent along with camp pendleton for work.
I know my work has an Att tower on base and that would be an improvement for me but here in my place it's plain garbage signal and echoing.
I've been with Verizon for years and never thought of switching. Anyone here in this area with ATT got some insight?
I'm paying 125 for a single unlimited line whereas I could have the same for 70 with ATT.

Have you tried to download opensignal app to see whether Verizon has any tower near you there? I still believe Verizon has a better coverage. I used to be with Verizon and it has coverage everywhere I go even in the mountain remote area. Verizon is pricy so I switched to TMobile single line, a lot cheaper. Data speed is pretty good with TMobile Single Plan but somehow I found out joining with family 4 lines, unlimited data, talk, text even cheaper but data speed is horrible especially during day time, I test speed so often from place to place. I don't know whether TMobile put cheap unlimited Family Plan in a slower band or tier whatever you call. I am not happy with TMobile at all at this time. But, I think we get what we pay for, lol. If you have family members with 4 lines, better be with Verizon. Verizon family plan is very compatible with TMobile and coverage is a lot better. I wish I could find family friends with Verizon so I can join them and pay for my own line's cost. Good luck.
I'm in San Marcos too and I use AT&T. The reception is 2 to 3 bars max in this area. I have been with T-Mobile and Verizon as well. All 3 have spotty coverage in this area. Verizon coverage is does not even exist at my house. Overall in the Southern California area (Santa Barbara all the way to the Southern Boarder) AT&T has provided me with the best overall user experience. T-Mobile is the runner up, but almost no coverage in my house, South Ponto Beach or North County Fair Mall.
Im in Ramona, I use Cricket which uses Att towers and I have signal everywhere. In the past 6 months, I switched from Verizon to Tmobile to now cricket. Cricket has hands down better service than both Verizon and Tmobile in my area. I had to use wifi calling for both in my house and girlfriend's house, no issues at all with cricket. So you should be good I think

My friend lives in the San Marcos area with AT&T and doesn't complain about speed at all.
I'm in the downtown area.
I was on Sprint, who is super slow everywhere.
I just switched to T-Mobile with my mom for 2 unlimited lines for 60/mo total (55+ older person plan). Speeds so far have been really good on T-Mobile, same with coverage.

Hi! I have a nexus one on AT&T and absolutely love it, but due to cheaper prices and better customer support I am going to switch to T-MOBILE. So is the coverage with T-MOBILE with nexus one 3g issues worth it? How is T-MOBILE service? Please post your speeds and location in the comments. I've been with tmobile for about 6 years and their customer service is pretty great but their 3G coverage is a bit spotty in some areas. Personally, I usually have 3G and H speeds and I live in the Miami-dade and broward county in Florida. I can't really give you my speeds because I haven't taken the time to find out but they usually have a map that shows their coverage, though I don't know how accurate they are. Hope I was of some help.
I live in Sacramento and get about 700-900kbps. Nowhere near 2 megs. I've heard of other areas that get much faster speeds (HSPA+ areas). However, I rarely run into an area where I won't pick up 3G.
i live in miami florida, their service is horrible; atleast in my neighborhood. i cant get 70k downloads to save my life.
I just did one quick speed test and I got 1.77 Mbps
Yea I'm picking up my N1 tonight from the FedEx hub since my gf can't answer the door.
I live in Cincinnati OH area and it seems to be good. My neighbor has full bars on his Nexus one and Tmobile, although I don't think he's the type to know his download speed.

I live in Cincinnati as well. The west side of town to be more accurate.
I can agree that for the most part 3G/H is pretty common there are still a decent amount of Edge holes in certain areas.
Overall the connection is pretty good.
My issue is the download/upload speeds on the Tmobile 3G/H network in Cincinnati. It doesn't matter where I go; Downtown, Kenwood, Blue Ash, Milford, Springdale, Cheviot, Northern KY... My speeds are pretty subpar
for 3G+. I get on avg .4-.5 mbps down and .3-.4 mbps up no matter where I am at in the city. This includes being within a football field of an H equiped tower.
They have some major work to do in Cincinnati when it comes to upgrading the networks backhaul.
remember you will have to buy a new nexus one to work with tmobile's 3G. the att version only supports ATt's 3G, and the tmobile only supports tmobile's 3G. so you will need a new phone

This is true. They are setup slightly different to handle that carriers specific 3G/H frequencies. Maybe you can sell yours on Craigslist if you decide to and break even.
That is my plan. Anyone with coverage in Texas? espicaly in East Texas? Also when is the 21 mbps supposed to be released? I am just a little hesitant to jump ship.

Now I have the option to go with at&t ..is at&t any better

To tell you the true this is up to you. In my opinion I stay with T-Mobile because I get more coverage and reception than AT&T. Check with your provider and check how much coverage you have were you are located. I hope this helps.
On my Galaxy S II I average about 8 mbps, sometimes going up to 18 mbps. However, the Galaxy is one of only 2 phones (the other is the HTC Amaze) that can take full advantage of T-Mobile's fast network, and I live in a strong TMo coverage area. My HD7, with it's older radio, averages 2 - 3 mbps - which i still not bad.
Of course, none of that matters if T-Mobile's service isn't where you are. You are best off with a phone that can tap into the strongest network in the places you'll be in. Take a look at the Root Wireless coverage map on CNET. This is based on actual speeds people have achieved using their testing app. Maybe the data here will help you make your decision.
Look into simple mobile. $40 unlimited everything for my hd7. Runs on tmo network but for $40..switched months ago and haven't looked back. Though tmo in my area is pretty good. 4 bars H pretty much everywhere I go..
My understanding is that Simple Mobile caps 3G speeds at a fairly low number - 150-200k or so.
I'm moving to Florida from Canada, and I'm having some trouble finding a good LTE plan there. I've checked out Straight Talk, AIO Wireless and Net10, but none of them seem to offer LTE? Is there a reseller, or a plan available through AT&T that offers LTE and possible calls to Canada? I'm using the Telus version of the HTC One.

at&t or tmobile. tmobile is no contract so that would be my first choice
Hate to say it, but check out att. They have a Canadian plan too for making calls into Canada.

As far as I can tell the only carrier that has decent rates on prepaid LTE is T-Mobile right now ($30/month with 200 voice minutes, unlimited texting, 5GB data). That said, they have a very small LTE footprint. AT&T's prepaid GoPhone service now has LTE support but it's a lot more expensive.
Either tmobile unlimited lte for 70$ a month or att which will cost more but you will get better coverage outside of cities. Plus they have plans to call to canda but if you get tmobile you can WiFi call to canada for free I believe with certain tmobile plans. If you won't be traveling on highways or to rural areas get tmobile for sure but if coverage is important for you and you would like speeds greater than edge outside of any major city get att but your looking easily over 100$ a month

And they don't slow your speeds down anymore
You can get unlimited minutes with att if you pay for it but you will not get unlimited data 30$ for 3 gb 10$ a gb after that never gets slowed down either but you pay for overages.
Really it all comes down to were you will be and travel and how important coverage is to you
I have att bit I travel out if cities all the time and go to metros and rural areas so I have to have att I can't be on edge every time I leave the city. You will still be able to make calls with tmobile but forget about getting on internet if your not in a populated area
It all comes down to preference but those are you two best options
Sprint is worse than tmobile for coverage and they don't have SIM cards only t mobile and att
My personal opinion to you though is if money isn't a issue get att you will get way better coverage and way better lte

Depending on area of course but I've never seen tmobile with these speeds and I live in Oklahoma city Oklahoma so if I get that here with att image what att would be in Florida

My situation:
1. I've been with Sprint since the OG Evo, but after getting the One, I was really frustrated with the slow LTE speeds especially after years of Network Vision promises and paying an extra $10 a month (per phone) for "high speed data" that was anything but. I was also irked at all the crap I had to go through to get the SIM unlocked.
2. The area I live in has refarmed HSPA+ to the 1900Mhz band.
3. The area I live in has AWS LTE.
4. I currently have a Sprint, T-Mobile, and Developer Edition One.
My original plan was to use the DE to test the TMO network to see if it was faster than Sprint and available in all the places I frequent. If so, then I'd sell my (now SIM unlocked) Sprint model and keep the DE, otherwise, I'd return the DE for a refund.
But over the last week and a half I've noticed that, while LTE speeds were frequently pretty high (15-20Mbps) there were still plenty of times when I was only seeing an H or an E. I couldn't even tell if the H was HSPA or HSPA+. So then I began to wonder if I was missing out because of the lack of the 1700Mhz band, thus I bought the TMO version to see if I was missing anything.
Turns out, I wasn't. The H I've been seeing is indeed HSPA+ but nowhere near the advertised 42Mbps. Granted, I wasn't naive enough to think I would pull 42Mbps even with the TMO version, but I expected to get at least in the 20-30Mbps range, instead I've been seeing 5-9Mbps. (Thanks to the Sensorly app, I can now tell which H I'm seeing).
After running around with TMO version, I'm seeing the exact same speeds in the same places. So, I'm not missing anything by not having 1700Mhz. In the meantime, TMO is still refarming more areas so the 1700Mhz is becoming less and less important.
So what about Sprint? At their lowest, the TMO speeds are equal to or a little above the Sprint speeds I've been seeing (my wife inherited the Sprint version during this trial run), and at their highest, Sprint can't touch them (in this area--I've gotten up to 20Mbps in PA).
So T-Mobile it is. When the wife's contract is up at the end of the month, the Sprint model is going up on Swappa. Meanwhile, the TMO version is going back to the store tomorrow.
What about AT&T you ask? Way faster, but way more expensive. Truth is, I spend most of my time on wifi anyway, so I'm not willing to pay AT&T prices for cable internet speeds for the times in between.
Hope this helps anyone else facing the same dilemma.

There is not a single provider in my area that carries the HTC One and has LTE. I wish I even had a choice to be able to test. Verizon has LTE in my area, but no HTC one. I wonder how many other people are in my same situation?

T-Mobile sucks in my area... My sprint speeds are in my sig.
Thinking of jumping ship to TMO, for the simple fact I can get root on all my devices. No contract, unlimited everything. Where I am hoping I don't have any issues with service. I am curious to know what the thoughts of everyone. Pro's Con's of switching/staying and or buying a TMO N4 to use on ATT network..

Read through it. Issue I am having is the wife is having better service in some areas where ATT isn't as good. But I am finding that in some cases, ATT is faster in speed tests. TMO has been solid as far as service where I live..
Sucks, cause I can't find a solid answer for the people who have had the chance to try both carriers and who they like best. ATT has a higher over cost, but is that worth "better" service?

FWIW, I've noticed that the spots that I mainly have less than stellar service is through stretches of road away from the major cities. For me, I commute / work / live around a major city, as do my friends and family so it isn't a factor for me. As far as AT&T goes, a few of my friends have AT&T, and I will get better service in spots compared to them and vice versa. I would tell you to try out the T-Mobile test drive option if they still have it. You can try an iPhone or I believe a GS5 for seven days to gauge the service for yourself. As far as I can tell though the service, coverage, and speed are roughly the same in and around major cities and highly populated areas.
take the t mobile 7 day challenge and make up your own mind..
If you do the 7 day T-Mobile thing your credit card will get a hold of $700 plus and if you don't bring the iPhone back in 7 days it will get charged. If that's a issue I think you can buy a cheap phone and test it then return? I love T-Mobile. I had Sprint for 14 years. Now a year and a half with T-Mobile.

The only thing with that is they give you an iPhone 5S, which handles T-Mobile's AWS frequencies quite poorly. If possible, I would take that sim and put it into a T-Mobile branded Android device for better service.
AT&T will always have better coverage as they have their HSPA+ on band 5, 850mhz, which goes way farther than band 4, 1700 mhz. AT&T also has nationwide LTE on band 17, 700mhz.

not everyone needs "nationwide" lte; if you dont travel much, and if tmobile is great in your area, none of that other stuff matters..
Tmobile is fantastic in chicago land, and since I dont travel for a living anymore, I love the savings, the coverage, the speed, everything about it..

I'm from the Chicago land area, and I can tell you they're not good. When traveling, only about 20 miles outside the city, my data went from LTE to 4G to E back and fourth. I was also in Des Plaines, IL and data was nothing but weak 4G and E inside buildings. My AT&T phone was always on LTE. Back at home, same thing. Good coverage outside, terrible signal inside buildings. I don't think I'd complain if the EDGE actually worked lol.
For years they had nothing but EDGE at my house, and now its finally LTE (but weak). So they are improving the signals with additional antennas. I just don't think its enough. Not every market will get their band 12, 700mhz spectrum do to channel 51 interference.

And, if you have issues inside your house, just ask them for the FREE Asus ac68 router, and your inside the house signals will be great too
In another thread a person on here said T-Mobile wasn't good where I live. Coverage is great pretty much everywhere I go so guess maybe that person had a dud phone.
Right now I am able to test 2 Note 4's. One on TMO, and the other on ATT. Some areas have been better for ATT, and vice versa for TMO. Speed tests seem to favor ATT a little. But with download booster on TMO unlimited LTE, I think that might edge a head some. I don't travel a ton, the areas I do travel are usually major highways and major cities.. So once I am able to go to a few more places that will give me a better idea of who I want to stick with.

Have you traveled out to Northwest, IN? They've gotten a lot better, but still are weak. I have no desire to use them. Especially now that I have 20GB of data from AT&T for $100. AT&T is miles a head of T-Mobile in my area.
