List of Supported Camera Sensors for RN4X SD - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Accessories

Hi all,
I used an app which showed the list of supported camera sensors for mido. See attached picture.
It would be awesome if someone can find one a better Sony module out there which fits this phone.
https://prnt.sc/hn3bck

well i see the imx378 is on that list? same sensor as used in the google pixel
this list.. is it sensors which are electrically compatible, or physically compatible? no good if it doesnt fit in the phone, or requires a different lens setup. the 378 sensor for example is 7.8mm . the standard sony chip used is 5.8 mm.. i cant imagine that working without an entirely new lens setup, and probably case mods.

I used an app from the Google Play store called Device Info HW which shows you everything about your device. This app detected all the above camera drivers installed (front and back cameras) on the device.
I did a bit of research online, but have yet to find a module that may fit on the Note4X. So like you say, it may need an entirely new lens setup even if is "supported".
So I'm not sure why Xiaomi would include these drivers in the system folder though? It did have drivers for all 3 back cameras (Sony, Omnivision, and Samsung), including the qtech and ofilm versions.

Very interesting. I'd like to try a cheap one on that list just to see if it worked but I'd really love to see the pixels camera shoved in there... I found one on 'witrigs.com' (can't link as I'm new) for $20 if anyone fancies taking the plunge.
Any ideas on maybe cutting the back panel to fit the sensor? I'd like to know the dimensions of the samsung/omni/sony lenses used if anyone can find any info on them. Are there any differences between the pixel and pixel XL?

On Q-Tech's website I see they manufacture a bunch of different types of camera modules. The closest dimension I found was 8.5mm(L)*8.5mm(W)*5.3mm(H).

Good work finding this, thanks! That one does seem bigger, the lens itself wider too... Could deal with that when we come to it.
Been looking a little more into this, I wonder how that list of supported cameras are provided by 'device info HW'? They might be physically compatible but to my understanding probably not fully. Looking in system/vendor/lib I can only find the files (are these drivers?) for the 3 different cameras that mido has shipped with. I have zero experience or understanding if its possible to add drivers through kernel or anything though. Maybe a dev or someone with some experience can give some insight but looking at articles like these:
h ttps://www.xda-developers.com/cameras-custom-roms-developers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/
I believe this will be unlikely to work.

@CedricSnail
As you mentioned, the camera libraries are located in 'system/vendor/lib'. For my device I see all the drivers listed by the app in that folder (see attached file). Which ROM are you using? I'm currently using the China Devloper ROM.

Oh wow, I'm on 'lineageos for microg'! Guess that changes things...
I'd be very interested in ordering some and giving this a try, the Z2's imx214 seems cheap so i might try that. I wonder would it be possible to include the libraries in a lineageos build?
Edit: nevermind, the imx 214, 298 and 2nd gen pixels 378 have a different number of pins on the connector from what I can tell from photos. They seem to have 17 pins lengthways as opposed to 15 on the imx258. However the 1st gen pixels imx 378 has 15 pins. I cant find any high resolution photos of the connections though so theres still a chance it may not fit.

Any updates on this ?

DO NOT waste your money on getting a different sensor! Just because the drivers are there, doesn't mean it's gonna work for the same chipset. Not to mention it would be a different size. Unless you can find another Xiaomi device's sensor that has the same processor and the same size and connections, you can't install anything else. Maybe Samsung Sensors could upgrade to a Sony Sensor, but not much more AFAIK.

I just did some research online and I found out that the Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Samsung S5K3P3 16 MP sensor, which is also included as a driver in the Mido folder. I looked on AliExpress and put together a comparison photo of the 2 sensors side by side and it looks like it may fit inside the Mido. (The number of pins are exactly the same)
Does anyone have a spare Note 3 lying around and would be willing to test on their Mido? I'm curious on the camera quality as it is 16MP vs the 13MP.

Probably not as I saw that the MTK version has a slightly different connector than the SD (according to witrigs.com). I attached a screenshot of the image on their page.

the best site to get the camera module is aliexpress.com but it is also risky due to scamsters posing as sellers.

Anything new on this topic??

It just shows the Sensors supported by the Board and the Processor. Everything's in the firmware not in the ROMs.

Sony Xperia X1 rear camera module (3.2Mp)? Where to find a replacement?

Hi,
My rear camera module (3.2MP) is damaged (water damage). Does anyone know where I can find a replacement module?
I'm not sure what the part number is, but i *think* it might be the same as the p1i/k850i/w960i rear camera... can anyone confirm this please?
Also - i can't get this fixed under warranty as it's out of warranty already.
have you found one yet? my camera module is also damaged (lens is broken)
Hi i've currently found it on mobile-parts.com.gr
I find the shipping cost very high (2-5 day fedex) = 35Eur
I'm thinking of also buying a battery cover because my black has a lot of scratches
Hi,
Nope I have not
Please let me know if you find it somewhere I have a feeling that .gr site is not legit
if you find one at all. you should try upgrading to a higher mp... mayb the censor for the td2? up it to 5mp?
c'mon don't just settle for that puny 3.2 lets' see some super sweet mods eh?

Shouldn't matter whether you have 3.2 or 10 MPix, if the software processing it is poor, then it'll still look bad. The only thing I miss from my E90 after getting the xperia is the camera. (there again, I have a camera for taking pics, so its not used often anyway!)
with the increase of Mpixels the modules get slightly bigger, sorry no easy mod here

[Q] s6 to note4 camera

Hello, I was looking at reviews for the galaxy s6 camera against our note4 camera, and I noticed they use the same camera sensor. after looking at pictures on ifixit the cameras look identical.
the difference is the galaxy s6 has a f1.9 lens instead of the f2.2 on the note4 which lets 30% more light in, so my question is would it be possible to purchase an s6 camera ($15) and simply install it on the note4?
Has that ever actually been done on other devices ? Seems like driver nightmare.

According to camera reviews they both use a Sony IMX240 camera sensor. I don't see why the drivers would be different.

I haven't pondered this. Not that big of a deal to concern myself with. Do you think the camera software would have to be calibrated to account for the lower aperture?

In theory it sounds possible. If you are very savvy with fixing phones, you might be able to pull it off. Otherwise, you're looking into breaking the LCD. This phone was build inside out, just like the GS5. You would need to remove the LCD, remove the metal frame, and then get to the board. So a $15 job might turn into a $250+ job.
I tried that once with my Note 2 (with the S4's camera) since the camera is important to me. The problem was they changed the cable and cable socket placement between the two models.
Replacing the camera safely wasn't an issue, at least on the Note 2 - the new camera just wouldn't fit. If you get it to work write it up - I'd do it too in a heartbeat.

The camera you found is not for your exact model but since the G2 variants don't differ that much, especially in the camera, i think it's safe to buy. If it's wrong. it's just 6 dollars

I had the fuzzy and shaked pictures problem too, but I figured that the problem is the magnet of the speaker... The camera has its own magnets to control the lens, but the speaker magnet is very close, so this "interference" causes that the camera dont focuses properly... My fix was put a layer between the camera module and the speaker, and now the camera works like new!

Questions before purchase

Hi,
I want to buy something with a 6"+ diagonal with a 16:9-ish AR to replace my dying Zenfone 2. Since nowadays every new phone is released with an 18:9 AR, which is no upgrade from my current 5.5" phone, I have to look at older models. Currently I've almost decided on a Mi Mix.
There is a Mi Mix review on GSMArena, it has some negative points that I'd like to hear a second opinion about before I make my decision.
* IPS LCD: apparently quite bad outside. I can barely see my Zenfone 2 IPS screen in rather cloudy conditions, at max luminosity. Is the Mi Mix screen that bad outside? (I've seen an S8+ under direct sunlight and it was bright as if inside, right next to my Zenfone 2's litterally black screen, but well, amoled is amoled )
* No MicroSD slot: The USB 2 on my Zenfone 2 is very slow, and every time I want to load a few gigs of video of flac files I remove the MicroSD and use an USB3 adapter on my PC, it is way faster this way. Is the Mi Mix Type-C port USB 3 ot two?
* "Our review unit acquired a few scratches on top of its display in the first three days even though we were extra careful in handling it". Ew. Is it really that bad? I've used screen protectors on my older phones but you always see there is one and it is quite distracting. I've had my Zenfone 2 without a protector film in my pant pockets with loose change and keys, and the Gorilla Glass is spotless after 3 years of that. I was intending to do the same with the Mi Mix, but if it won't last a week at a 400-500€ price, I'll look elsewhere.
Thanks.

Hi, according this:
https://www.devicespecifications.com/es/model/9dda3f3d
The USB port is 3.0 in the Mi Mix. I have the 256G version and so neved missed the SD card slot.
As for the display visibility outside there is a thread in this forum about this. My personal experience is that the visibility is not so good when facing the sun directly, but I have a glass screen protector that may be worsening it.
Sounds good, thanks guys. One last thing: since it transmits sound by vibrating the top part of the screen, do other people really hear your conversations? I am reading conflicting opinions on the subject. I suppose that it may be the case in a small and quiet room, but I guess that in the street, in the subway or the train, there is enough ambient noise to counter this?

It's the 128gb version
One more thing. It's probably a stupid question, but here goes. One reviewer said that since the Mi Mix' screen is not a standard 16:9 resolution, it will display "standard" content with black bars. Fair enough, I see no way around this anyway. But then he added that native content shot with the Mi Mix will make full usage of the near bezel-less screen. This got me thinking... I suppose the camera does have native and standard 16:9/4:3 modes, doesn't it? I don't want to have to process all my photos and videos every time so they fit onto 16:9 screens without black borders.
Also, if the stock camera app can do that, what of the one that comes with Lineage OS?
Camera app has 4:3 and 16:9, no worries.
Hi
By coincidence I've recently replaced my aging Zenfone 2 ZE551ML with a Mi Mix 6/256: rest assured you won't be regretting the ZF2
The missing SD card is a non-issue, considering the 'minimum' configuration of the Mix provides you with 128GB of storage..
Screen visibility in full daylight is more than adequate for me, and anyway much better than the ZF2 screen. I find the Mix has a better, clearer display somehow.
Can't vouch for the Mix screen resistance, but I've put a cheap glass screen protector on it. Sure it's a tad smaller than the Mix screen - for some reason they don't seem to make properly sized screen glass - but good enough for the time being.
I think you'll appreciate the difference between the two devices, as I did.
PS: have a better look to the ZF2 screen: you'll find lots of small scratches - mine had them, to be sure.

A quick mini-review for people who might stumble upon this thread with the same concerns that I had. I got the 6/256G variant.
* IPS LCD: way more luminous that the IPS on the old Zenfone 2, so no problem with this. Also, even though the MiMix is larger with the same resolution as the ZF2, it looks sharper.
* No MicroSD slot: while USBTreeView does not show "SS" (super-speed, allegedly USB3) but only "H" (High speed, allegedly USB2), the transfer speed is definitely USB3.
* Scratches: I don't know what the GSMArena reviewers were doing to the phone, or maybe their model had a different screen coating, but after a week in my pants pocket together with some loose change, the screen does not have a single scratch.
* Phone sound: The handset produces a clearly worse sound quality, but this screen vibration does not let other people hear your conversation.
* The stock camera app is kind of garbage-y. No stabilisation. You can change "Camera Frame" from 16:9 to 4:3, and "Picture Quality" between High/Standard/Low, but nowhere did I find figures like "4608x2592 (16:9, 11.93MP)" that free apps like "Open Camera" will show you.
Extra stuff:
* If you are planning to flash the phone right away, be ready to waste 3 days of your life being unable to install and config your phone. The Mi Mix has a locked bootloader, you have to ask Xiaomi for the permission to unlock the device that belongs to you. This part is done quickly though, but then you will have wait 72 hours upon receipt of the permission e-mail until their flashing software allows you to do the actual unlocking.
* It comes with MIUI 8 (Android 6), and no apt-x. If you have good headphones like the Sennheiser Momentum M2, the difference will be huge.
* I was intending to install Lineage OS for the apt-x support. After flashing I figured it did not have the official Google Play app (big duh! moment ). Not willing to risk using an ersatz then fight with compatibility issues (I have quite a few official paid apps), I flashed MIUI 9 Global beta (Android 7.1.2). Even though by itself MIUI 8 and 9 are rather rubbish (if I didn't want an app drawer I'd have bought an iphone ), with the Nova Launcher it works fine. And it has apt-x too.
Overall I am quite happy with the purchase so far.

3 rear cameras with one press

Hey all. The p30pro is a beast camera wise and spec wise. I was wondering if there was a camera app where I can press once and it takes 3 pictures. 1 from each of the cameras? Imagine 3 images shot at the same time (or almost) showing 5x, 1x and wide angle. Anyone can make this happen? How cool would that be for concerts etc. Not having to keep switching between the different cameras manually after each shot.
Saw Samsung do something similar with Dual Capture Mode in the Note8 and up - but it's a whole next level if it can be done with 3 cameras and allow you to save all 3 images.
So... You mean like the existing dual view camera, but including the wide angle as well?
I suspect you may have some issues with the processor being able to do all of that simultaneously. Likewise, depending on how it is all 'plumbed in' there may not be enough capacity of the bus to get that much info through.

Dual view is for video only. I'm talking about 3 images taken simultaneously (or within milliseconds), 1 from each camera. So take a concert for example. I snap once and I get 3 pics in my gallery - one with a close up on the singer, one with a fullbody of him and the third captures the entire stage from the wide angle. So I don't have to toggle 3 different zooms or press the shutter 3 times. Think that's possible?
It can happen, if Kirin is powerful enough. LG V40 have this function but...you end up with one OK photo and other 2 "meh" photos. So we have the base here. Someone just need to improve it.

Just checked it out. Seems as though the V40 makes a mini video with the 3 shots. I don't mind that, but 3 images would be so much better. How can I help? I'm willing to try to get this working. I know a bit of java, but what I don't know I learn. Any experienced "modder" willing to point me in the right direction?
