TWRP for Mate 10 - Huawei Mate 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Any rumors / news on will TWRP release their recovery for Mate 10?
As they skipped it for Mate 9 I would not be surprised if they did the same for Mate 10. Building kernels for vendor-specific chipsets is more complicated and less interesting as for Snapdragon ones...

The Pro is looking to become pretty popular though, maybe that'll help out us regular Mate 10 owners too

Though it's not official: https://twrp.me/Devices/Huawei/

Frankly speaking I am waiting twrp at least for Mate 10, not Pro. The absence of microsd shortens the use of custom recovery especially for backup.
And I really hope Xiaomi will return microsd in Mi7 so it will be a really good device.

Why? Adb works perfect for backups
Once twrp releases I'll post a thread on how to increase the longevity and performance of this phone (tested on mate 9)
Really exited to see what this phone can do when its pushed

You can recover with internal storage
Twep doesn't touch the storage partition (or omit it)

I know the difference between /data and /data/media
But anyway sometimes backing up is a problem when internal storage is used for /data backup. You can refer to Xiaomi Mi6 issues on this as an example.

Yeah, in this case it would be the only solution.
So let's summarize. In real life I have to additionally carry with Pro version:
OTG adapter
3.5 jack adapter
None of them for Mate 10 non-Pro.
I really believe it is too much, guys

yeah i understand
but i think most people play on their phones near a computer, so that makes it a little easier (you can pull and push after data gets wiped)
only time will tell whether or not we will get TWRP
i really hope we do

As one of the first devices to be released with Oreo and being Treble compliant, there is so much potential.
I'm also really hoping for TWRP for the backup features and for the many other advantages that it offers. I really hope that the developer community for the Mate 10 grows. It's a great piece of hardware and with enough developers on-board, it can be awesome!

If anyone could explain how to build the device tree, I could do it. I don't really know what files you need to build a working recovery. Fstab and recovery.fstab are the ones I know. And the init.* ones. I've been trying for hours, but can't get it working. The furthest I got was to the twrp splash.
I was comparing and replacing files from the mate 9 tree, but still no go.

Hi, you can find the device tree here - - > https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=74765519 .
I was thinking to try it myself for Mate 10 Pro , but didn't had the time to do it.
Also you can have a look at the TWRP for Mate 9 (the Oreo version by duraraa).
Edit: To build from device tree, there's a minimal manifest that you can use it with Omnirom sources. There are some examples here on XDA, or you can search on GitHub for TWRP for other Huawei devices (Mate 9 or Honor).

Yup, I'm using those. The one by auras seems to be all files that are in the stock recovery. The one by duraaraa is just the recovery for nougat, but changed fstab (I think anyway) to Oreo.
The one by mankindtw is also for nougat, changed fstab.
It's this one: https://github.com/Tkkg1994/android_device_hi3660
And I've tried that one, replacing the files for Oreo ones does not work.
Same with Auras.
The problem is finding instructions on device trees. How to find out what files are needed etc.

I meant this recovery for Oreo -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3687622
The device three from Auras should be complete, but you will need a build environment to use it. There are several guides on XDA that shows you how to build TWRP without synching the whole Omnirom repo,but just what's needed to build the recovery.

Tbh, nothing excited me. I installed it (previously was on NucleaROM) and while it was downloading I was thinking that I'll be losing my Google Assistant but if the rom is great then it is worth losing it. After using the rom for like 6 hours, I found out only battery life is great, and this rom is really not worth losing the Assistant. So came back to NucleaROM!

I can confirm that it supports project treble ??
Have you tried the "getprop ro.treble.enabled" command in the terminal ? If no, could you please confirm whether the value was "true" or "false".
I used treble check app & it says there is support for treble but no A/B partition so no seamless updates.

I'm a little confused. How come it supports Treble if it doesn't have a separate 'vendor partition' which is supposed to bring seamless updates?
I don't think the app you're using is reliable.
Well, either that or I'm missing something BIG about Project Treble!
He didn't say that! The phone does indeed have a vendor partition, it just doesn't have the A/B scheme (that's what he said at least).

When I do a hard reset, will project treble stay intact? I'd do a hard reset to get rid of the installed bloatware before I setup the phone.

Okay, got my device today, did a factory reset before starting. All worked fine. Yes, for sure Project Treble support, but only A-Partition. But after the reset and setup all that Bloatware was there again. Well, not to nice, but you can uninstall some of them. The device is really nice and you really get a lot of SP for the money. So, now wait for the first updates to come

The reason i haven't done that, as i explained in the other thread, is because i need android pay, or Google pay as it's called now. I know i can pass Safetynet with some fiddling with magdisk, but as you know magdisk vs Google is a cat and mouse story, Google closes one hole resulting with magdisk failing safetynet, then magdisk updates and safetynet passes again, then Google closes that hole and so on and on. Android pay is too important for me to have to keep doing that. Without magdisk as soon as BL is unlocked, which is required for LOS, safetynet fails. If GPay wasn't so important to me i would have loaded LOS , or phh AOSP, some time ago as EMUI is just bloatware in my opinion. Why OEMs, and it's not just Honor, think their skins are better than stock is strange. If they truly believe their skin is that great then make it an apk and let users decide, don't force it down people's throat and then not even give them the option to disable it...rant over..

No fu*king sense. Oneplus 5 doesnt even has /vendor partition. Having treble on OP5 would involve repartitionning the device, and thats why Oneplus wont enable their current devices to Treble.

Does it mean that when I have a phone manufactured in 2018 then it's Project Treble full compativble and I can flash almost any rom to it or does it mean I can flash a rom from a similar device?

Sorry. I told you an easy way to install LOS 15.1 on your Mi8.
For more Information read this.
https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/
Treble is quit new.
Short answer. Nearly the most mainstream treble Rom's work on Mi8. But not 100% exaktly. Mi8 notch for example.
So we need a Dev to integrate spezial Mi8 Things.
I hope I could help with the short way to install LOS 15.1.
Rest is yours.
PS.
Make a full Backup.
Test LOS. See whats work or not.
Search for missing, flashable Zip and integrate.
I found no Thread speziell for Mi8.
You can write a Guide what you did.

THANKS XDA Friend but my PT question was in general for all the phones Can You answer that or should I rewrite it in PM cause I may have been misunderstood (bad English).

Any idea if OpenKirin is coming to this tablet?

Anyone tried to install OpenKirin?
I'm assuming the images for M5s will not work here.
@OldDroid
 @XePeleato
 @surdu_petru
 @Bloodlvst
 @irony_delerium
Is there a change for the M5 Lite?
I would buy it, if you say that there will be a possibility in the future...
You support already devices with the Kirin 659.
What would happen if i try to install the rom on the device?
(Sry i don't use telegramm (XMPP/matrix...) )
Is the Sourcecode for the M5 Lite available?

It should work (looking it up says it's running EMUI 8) with the caveat that they're all phone-type builds - though that mostly ends up meaning they've got the phone app and such things included which are probably not useful on a tablet.

Thanks for the reply.
Too many Features are better then less Features, isn't it?^^^
Is there a possibillity to test OpenKirin and if it doesn't work set the tablet back to factory reset before sending it back to the merchant?

Make sure you've got a copy of the stock firmware beforehand; all of our ROMs are just the system partition, so if they don't work (or you don't like them), you can flash back the EMUI system partition from the stock firmware and be back on stock. Of course, you've got to unlock the bootloader to install them - and depending on where you're at, that may be reason to not accept the device as a return.

How can i copy it? I Thought you need at least twrp, which would delete the stock recovery?

Firmware finder website.
Instructions for all of it are on the OpenKirin website at https://www.openkirin.net/.
Also, stock recovery is actually preferred - TWRP has it's share of issues on Kirin devices, and we don't support the use of it with an OpenKirin ROM. So you'd want the stock images for that as well, for retrieving the stock recovery.
@irony_delerium I tried flashing OmniROM Pie Alpha 6.2 (for EMUI8) with the instructions posted @ https://openkirin.net/user_guide/how-to-flash-extracted-partition-images/
After flashing and formatting I am stuck on "Your device is booting now", but nothing happens even after +-10 mins
I also tried the last RR but same problem. Then tried flashing an older stock rom version (177) to see if I could get more success from there, but that also wouldn't boot.
Flashed back to my original stock rom version now (277), which works fine after formatting data.
I'm using a Mediapad M5 Lite BAH2-W19 8.0.0.227 (OCEC432)
Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Since B218 there is no possibility to downgrade via DLOAD anymore. So the current situation is: No more custom ROMs for M5 lite.

I've installed it and using it since October and I can tell it's working very good. The only bug is the offline charge that doesn't work. You need to charge the tablet when is on. I recommend you to install it.
