Change Lock Screen Direction? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

I am finding it quite annoying that you swipe up, but the lock screen moves left (and the whole tinted screen moves with it). I'm guessing there is no way to change it, so it moves up instead.
My last phone was the Z3 Compact and there you swipe up, and the pattern moves up with the lock screen. It made sense.

I'm annoyed by the visual discrepancy as well, but thankfully I rarely have to interact with it since fingerprint unlock is so quick, accurate and convenient.
Ideally, they should have designed the animation to adapt to different swipe gestures. At least they still allow you to swipe up to unlock instead of forcing you to swipe left.

So.. Am I the only one unlocking by swiping from the right (so for the me animation for me is actually perfect)...?

But why is the padlock at the bottom of the screen if you swipe right to left? I also wouldn't mind if the pattern lock entered from the right. It's the inconsistency that gets me

Most likely the UI people at Sony decided that for this generation, the core UI gesture theme is swiping from right to left.
For example, default home screen is anchored at the very left and additional pages are to the right, so you swipe left to access those pages.
So, by extension, the lock screen should also be unlocked the same way for consistency and smooth transition to the home screen UI flow.
The padlock icon location is probably tied to the Android OS and not something Sony can or wants to change.
Just a guess. I'm still grateful that they didn't remove the ability to swipe up to unlock.

Maybe you're right. I would like to have the option.
I've looked into a few replacement lock screen apps but they don't feel as secure as the stock one.

Sucks for me too. Wish we could swipe any direction.

lock screen swipe/ deletecameraoption

I set lockscreen to unlock with just plain 'ole swiping. however, if I swipe right to left it pulls up the camera. I know you can unlock it, swiping in that direction, if you don't start with your finger on the far right side of the screen. but me and my fat thumbs have been programmed to do so since I've had a smart phone. so my question: how to I delete this feature? I'm rooted

[Q] Change wallapaper on homescreen and lock screen simultaneously

Stupid question, I have been forced to use a lockscreen on my Z3C for security purposes, however i would like when i change my wallpaper for my homescreen and lockscreen to change simultaneously.
I know on iOS devices, when you apply a wallpaper you get the option for home, lockscreen or both.
Is there a way of doing this on the Z3C that im just not seeing or did sony/android just omit this feature entirely?
Settings-personalization--wallpaper for home screen.
Settings-personalization--lock screen for lock screen.
or
from a picture you hit the 3 dots on up right corner and use as.
the option like iOS i think there isn't,you just have to make the same thing twice
thanks punkyd but i know those methods, i just wanted a method to do both at once.
This has been bugging me as well

Fullscreen lock screen post marshmellow

So, since the marshmallow update, my pattern lock condenses to the bottom left/right quarter or the screen, which, with my giant sausage thumbs, is far too small to accurately input my pattern. Does anyone know of a way to make it full screen again, or is there a setting I'm just too blind to see?

It's a setting. Go to Settings --> Advanced Features --> One-handed operation and the bottom toggle needs to be off. At least that's how it works on my Sprint Note 5
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

[REQUEST] IPhone X navigation bar gestures

Can someone make a module that replace the navigation and with gestures like on iPhone X? I really like the idea and I want to see it on Android .
Thanks!
+1
What would be the gesture for the back button? Swiping to the sides switches apps in the iPhone. The android ui relies on the back button.
Check all xposed modules

I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but have you tried Xposed Edge Pro? It is fantastic... and powerful. Probably will fit your needs.

Besides it Xposed Gesture Navigation also deserves a try.

Click on the edge of the screen? Or maybe hold?

I use swipe down on right edge center.
Up is menu.
Press and hold top is fast upwards.
Press and hold bottom is fast downwards.
Press and hold center is a pie app switching related.
Press and hold left edge center is general pie.
Press and hold bottom edge center is a pie clipboard related.
And lots of other stuff..... All with Xposed Edge Pro.
Needs Refinement
I love UI changes, so over the years I've tried things like Android Pie, Gesture control, exposed modules, and even multi window stuff all the way back in the tablet days of Android Honeycomb.
The problem is the lack of response breaks them.
When I swipe from the bottom I need instant feedback (visual/audio/haptic or all three) as to whether or not the phone thinks I'm scrolling down or going home.
When I realize I am scrolling down/going home and I want to be doing the opposite action, I need to be able to stop the gesture mid-way and reverse my action.
I need to easily be able to distinguish between the two gestures so that if I do mess up, I know what to do to get the desired result.
I need all other apps to accommodate/not request this gesture.
The iPhone does this well by having a bottom bar, you pull the bar up to go home, you swipe somewhere else to scroll. There is instant visual feedback, and the action can be stopped midway.
For Android here is a non-clone example.
1. Have a bubble/circle (looks like a chat-head) right where the home button is.
2. Swiping up behaves similar to pulling down (refreshing) on chrome/many apps. You start pulling and there is an animation but the action does execute till a certain threshold.
3. Swiping right-to-left has similar animation but for back button
4. Swiping left-to-right does the same but for multitasking
5. Long press for something else
This is not radically different from other gestures or Android Pie, but I believe the small changes and refinements would take it from being impractical to smooth and enjoyable.
I like the new iPhone X's "swipe bar" and I would love to find it on my android phone.
In my opinion a dedicated visible bar is better than "swipe on the edges".
Why? Because even "swipe on the edges" works obviously with a small area of the screen (otherwise is impossible to detect swipe gestures), but this area is transparent, which is cool but also bad: sometimes when you just tap on that area (when you're typing on the keyboard for example) an involuntary swipe is detected.
So in my opinion a visible bar like the current navigation bar is necessary.
But is definitely unneccessary such a big area!
So I imagine the perfect "swipe bar" a small, minimal and animated (when touched) area.
User should be able to map up to 4 different swipe gestures (up, right, down and left) and tap gestures (one tap, double tap, long press, ...)
I drew some concepts of the "swipe bar", what you guys think?

UMEI 9 Upgrade - lock screen launchers

Upgraded to UMEI 9 the other day (and still don't like it) - have they removed the quick launch camera option from the lock screen totally? I think you could just swipe up from the bottom right corner before on the lock screen? Any tips would be helpful.
Also, the volume buttons suck now! Mine seem to default to the media volume and not the actual ringtone. Hoping it's just me being an idiot and missing an obvious setting change. Thanks!
