Starting clean: Magisk and Xposed Modules. How to install, order, etc. - Magisk

Hello
Im going to wipe my entire Marshmallow ROM and go to Nougat.
I used Xposed modules a lot.
But Im intrested in some Magisk things as well so Id like to use both.
First thing after wiping is going to install Snapchat and log on. After that, I need Titanium Backup to freeze and make a backup copy which is where root and/or MagiskSU come in. I want to do it correctly and right so what is the correct way to go upon this in this scenario?
Thank you

The below order has worked fine for me in the past:
Wipe all partitions (I personally wipe internal storage as well) and format data
Reboot to recovery and copy the zips to the internal storage
Flash ROM
Flash GApps
Flash Magisk/SuperSU
Flash custom kernel
Wipe cache and dalvik-cache
Reboot and setup the phone
Setup Snapchat and backup it's app+data using Titanium Backup once logged in
Reboot to recovery
Flash Xposed
Wipe cache and dalvik-cache
Reboot

Looks like a good solid order to get both Magisk and Xposed working on Nougat. Ill try to do that.

You can also install systemless Xposed through magisk manager. It's a magisk module. Then you can easily turn off Xposed if you need to pass safetynet.
You can do it after setting everything else up. Then go into magisk manager and install Xposed (for your correct API) and the systemless Xposed installer APK (it's in the description in magisk manager for Xposed magisk module) then reboot, wipe cache and dalvik, and boot system. Some have said they had to install Xposed APK after first boot after installing framework in magisk.

Don't forget the modified Xposed installer/manager APK. When you click on Xposed in magisk to get description the link for it is there. And I think you flash magisk zip after your custom kernel (because it modifies boot.img). And setup all your other stuff before Xposed (like opening magisk and make sure it's good). First boot after installing Xposed can take a while, it has to optimize pretty much everything. But everything else looks good.

Im just flashing a ROM (which I believe already has the custom kernel)

Very good list, but I have doubt about this order:

OK, Am not ready for a full tutorial now but using
SP flash tool you can do a readback of the original
Recovery.
You can also get it from my other posts about
Stock firmware, download only the stock recovery
And replace it with the one in TWRP folder and
Flash it with SP flash tool or with flashify if you are

Always wipe Cache and Dalvik cache before flashing
Any zip from recovery and some even wipe again
After flashing as an added precaution. It's a good

I've noticed the system restarting during apps
Optimization once or twice after flashing some zip
But it later completed the optimization after the

Try clearing cache and Dalvik cache again
If the issue persist, restore your system,

Flash SuperSU reboot system, flash xposed reboot system

How to use Magisk??? (add lost txt)

Hi to all
I have rooted OP3T and every time when I install new update, BETA small or full version zip file, I need again to install stock.zip from boatloader , then again, install TWRP and Super Su.
I hear that with Magisk I can easy install any update without lost TWRP and Root. I have flash Magisk and install from Google Store Magisk Manager.
So my question is how to install new update with Magisk and dont lost TWRP and Root?
Please tell me step by step
thx a lot for your answers
Magisk doesn't touch the recovery. And you'll still have to flash the Magisk zip since the boot image is updated whenever you update your system (Magisk modifies the boot image).
What does stay after an update (as long as you don't wipe /data) is any Magisk modules that you have installed. If you have a bunch of modules that change build.prop values, debloat system apps, change screen density, replaces system UI sounds, etc, you won't have to do those changes again after an update. They are found in the Magisk image in /data and will be loaded by Magisk at boot.
Even if you've wiped /data, it's just a matter of flashing the Magisk and module zips in TWRP after updating your system. No tedious manual editing of build.prop or deleting apps, etc. It literally takes seconds...
If you have issues with loosing TWRP after an update, you can easily fix that, right after updating. Just keep a copy of the recovery image on your device and flash it in TWRP.

Can't flash Xposed zip on Nougat: /system could not be mounted

I'm thrilled to know it finally supports Nougat. Thanks rovo89 and all the developers!
Now I have issues installing the zip. I tried to use TWRP to flash the lastest zip (Pixel, 7.1.2, sdk25, arm64), but it kept saying "/system could not be mounted". Here's the log:
https://pastebin.com/89wefwCR
Same problem; Pixel Xl running PureNexus and Magisk 13.3
pixel xl here. xposed could not be installed from recovery, but could be installed from the xposed installer app. I could also be uninstalled from that app. However, uninstall exposed zip could not be flashed, for the same problem - can't mount system. I'm not comfy messing with xposed until uninstall zip works. That uninstall zip has saved me so many times.
I just figured out the way to install Xposed v88 on a Pixel XL phone.
If you have used Xposed on other diveces before, you probably know that the Xposed framework you are about to install is a .zip package , and you may want to use a 3rd-party recovery (like TWRP) to install it, just like you always did with other android phones.
However, the recovery method does not work with Pixel, at least at this time.
This is caused by Pixel's totally different partition plan, known as "A/B system partition"(which means there are two /system partitions). It seems that TWRP can't perfectly support Pixel's A/B partitions. (But why TWRP can install Super SU flawlessly into a Pixel? Anyone have an idea?)
An alternative way is using Flashfire to install .zip packages, and Flashfire supports Pixel's partitions.
So here's my attempt to install Xposed with Flashfire:
root the Pixel by fastboot boot twrp.img and install SuperSU.
reboot and install Flashfire.
copy xposed-v88-sdk25-arm64.zip to Pixel's internal memory. (xposed-v88 could not be the latest version when you are reading this)
run Flashfire, select the zip package, choose Slot A, check Auto-mount and Mount /system read/write
hit FLASH.
after reboot, install Xposed Installer (apk) and you will see Xposed is ready for use.
note: I reset my Pixel by flashing factory image (fash-all.bat) and I'm not using Magisk.
What is the advantage of using flashfire over the method I described above?
my method is:
1) open xposed app
2) hit install
However, if xposed jacks up your phone (not saying that xposed will do that, but I know messing about with it I've had situations with certain modules that wouldn't let me boot into system), you can't flash the "uninstall" zip with flashfire.
That's what's stopping me right now. I know I can always go back to a TWRP nandroid, but sometimes I don't have a zero day backup on hand. I liked the safetynet (pun intended) of always being able to flash uninstall xposed zip from recovery.

No root prompt in Lineage OS 16.0 with Magisk installed

Dear XDA,
Model: Xiaomi Redmi 4X(Santoni)
Used TWRP:
Installed latest Lineage OS 16.0 of November 20, 2019 with formatting internals and wiping system, vendor, dalvik and cache.
Installed lastest Magisk v20.1 from GitHub page
Booted ROM and installed "MagiskManager-v7.4.0.apk" from above link
As the result:
MagiskManager shows everything green
No root prompt in any application and Root Checker shows that root is not installed.
"Settings -> System -> 'Developer options' -> 'Root access'" have only two options: Disabled and "ADB only"
Already have tried:
Disabling power optimization entry for MagiskManager
Reinstall Magisk using MagiskManager
What might be the reason of no prompt issue?
Why not SuperSU: is it worth to tell why? For example, basically Netflix won't work etc.
Thank you very much for any working suggestion.
This happened to me too once. What helped was simply re-flashing the 20.1 Magisk zip. It contains the Manager apk, so no need to install it separately.
I Have Nexus 5x and Lineage OS 15.1.
For me it was Lineage OS issue. Instead 20191118 I flashed 20191105. I had some other weird bugs too.

I thought I expressed myself pretty clearly. Well, a clean install of your system is always a good idea (given you backed up all your personal data) .You can also just extract the boot.img from your LOS image and flash that in twrp prior to flashing magisk. But what I did when the root prompt didn't pop up was simply flashing the magisk zip again in twrp, (maybe wiping caches as well) and after rebooting magisk su was working as intended.. Good luck

Magisk Bootloop on MIUI 11 11.0.1.0 Global Version

Hi friends, every time I try to root the 11.0.1.0 Global, my phone end up in Bootloop (goes to TWRP every time). I tried to flash disable dm verity, but same results.
I'm using TWRP unnoficial (twrp-3.3.1-25-raphael-mauronofrio.img) but tried with the official too, same results.

Okay, now I'm unrooted, what steps I need to do? TWRP >> Flash Magisk >> Flash DM Verity >> Wipe Cache/Dalvik? Or only Flash Magisk via TWRP and Wipe Caches?
Edit: same results, tried to flash magisk and clear cache and dalvik, bootloop again.
Edit²: tried to do a Factory Reset on TWRP and system booted up normally, Magisk Manager says that I'm rooted, but I can't install any module. Tested AdAway do get root, and all ok.
Edit³: Magisk Manager requested for some "additional files", I pressed to install and he rebooted the phone, now I'm stuck again in TWRP. Tried to clear Cache and Dalvik cache, same results.

To install magisk on the global version, you must first remove the encryption.
1. return the system to its original state so that it boots, most likely it is flash via MiFlash (or via twrp ROM version for twrp)
2. flash DFE-script, reboot from twrp in twrp ( https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mFVdDlnp32g2AjdKlMq6tZcqK0krP-js )
3. format data-yes, reboot in system

You can flash the magisk-uninstaller 20.1.
and after format data-yes all your data will be gone.
Go to /data/adb/magisk/chromeos find "futility" file. Permission 644 for it.
Go to /data/adb/magisk find "BusyBox" file and permission 664 for it.
Reboot and done.
In future, when you flash any rom on k20 pro. Remember that do it if you flash magisk.

Yeap!
1. Flash magisk via twrp (suggest pitchblack)
2. Delete 2 files
3. Reboot (→solved bootloop)
4. Open magisk manager and update (if failed, close app and try again and agian) → after auto reboot (after 5 seconds), can solved issue "can not flash modules - of course with all modules flashed, it's showed in list).

Solution is here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9t/help/phone-stuck-bootloop-try-to-install-t4007259
1. I back up my Internal storage to my PC
2. Format Data (In TWRP: Wipe -> Format Data)
3. I reboot back into recovery
4. I connected my device to PC via a cable and copy two files: "Magisk-v20.1.zip" and "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_10.20.2019.zip" into Internal storage. Then rename "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_10.20.2019.zip" to "Disable_ForceEncrypt.zip"
4. I flash "Magisk-v20.1.zip", then I reboot back into recovery again.
5. I flash "Disable_ForceEncrypt.zip" . Reboot to system and setting my phone like after flash a new room, and then I installed "MagiskManager-v7.4.0.apk"
It's working for me!
You can download "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_10.20.2019.zip" here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/and...crypt-t3817389

Not sure sorry. I ended up waiting for a better version of Magisk to come out. Have you tried Magisk 20.3 on K20/mi96t android 10 miui 11?
Hi guys,
Try to format data in TWRP before the first reboot. Remember, this will clear your data.
It is very easy to get bootloop because of cryptography.
Good luck!
